//-------------------------------------------------------// Something in the field -by Firefoxino- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Reap and sow //-------------------------------------------------------// Reap and sow It was a normal pale night in Equestria. The Princess of the Moon, after establishing her rule on the world for a time, decided to go on a walk. The duties of a princess were often dull and weighed on the mind, and so Luna started walking. Maybe some physical activity would free her mind from the dullness that was the throne room. She walked around the castle, hearing the quietness that her night brought. Only the sounds of marching guards could be heard in the silent darkness. Still she looked at her own moon, the precious jewel of the night adorned by her stars. So entranced was she with her sightseeing that she almost missed the quick steps of a guard. She looked behind her and saw Night Lance, her most faithful guard. In his wing there was a scroll, tightly secured and closed. He didn’t speak, he just handed the scroll over and waited. The Princess of the Moon read the hastily written letter with specks of ink plastered over it. The trembling words were most unsettling. Something was in the fields of Hollow Shades. They didn't know what it was, but farmers had gone missing, the populus was worried, scared. “Take a squad of your best with you,” the Princess declared, and the soldier obeyed. It wasn’t a long flight, merely two hours. When they arrived, the city was silent and drowned in darkness. Upon touching the ground, they felt something watching them. The wind got still in a second, and no sound could be heard, not even the breaths of those present. “Be quick and stealthy,” Night Lance ordered his soldiers. And thus they started their search, and thus started their descent into fear. A scream. “Where did he go!?” came the quick question of the most faithful. They rushed to the source, only to find a lone figure with a lantern. The figure was almost pony-like in its features, but the similarities ended there. It had four more arms, and in one, it held a scythe. Its face was that of a predator, with a mouth filled to the brim with teeth made out of metal and a single cage filled with darkness dangling from its chest. The darkness within almost seemed to be looking at them. “What are you!?” Night Lance demanded. Immediately after the creature collapsed and in seconds disappeared, and the sound of crows could be heard around them. Now that only four of them remained he had to make a decision. “We will split up, you two goinvestigate that one,” he said pointing to one of the creatures, the farthest one. “We will look at this one.” He said pointing at the one right ahead. With a shaky march the soldiers went on. They entered the dreaded forest and went near the figure. The captain immediately shot forward fearlessly and took down the creature, only for it to disintegrate. “W-what?” A scream came from behind, a ragged breath and the sound of a helmet hitting the ground. Behind the captain now lay only the helm of his soldier and the soldier himself, nowhere to be seen. The captain started to lose his bravado, no longer confident of his abilities. He couldn’t comprehend it, such fear. Such unbridled horror and terror. The creature in front of him was there, waiting. In an instant it’s red eyes looked at him, and then all went dark. The last thing he saw was his own body. “Strange how that goes…” Days passed, and when no news came the Princess of the Night decided to intervene herself. She adorned herself in her ancient armor and took with her only her magic and courage. No one else would disappear in Hollow Shades. The Princess landed in the void streets of the city, a heavy fog making it impossible to see more than five meters away. The silence of the town was more frightening than any howl or growl of any beast, but the princess walked forward. She heard something move, from the wheat fields, she saw a light dangling from a rope swinging back and forth, never oiled apparently, its insistent squeaking almost maddening. The Princess moved towards the light and upon reaching it, saw the horrible visage of what could have been mistaken as a pony from a distance, but clearly wasn’t.
