Eye Of the Storm

Braeburn looked toward Rainbow Dash, his face brightened up a bit as he walked toward the blue pegasus. The Appleoosian sun was setting behind dark storm clouds in the distance, painting a fiery pink and orange masterpiece that looked as if it should be behind glass at a Canterlot gallery. Braeburn put a hoof on Rainbow Dash's shoulder.
"Those buffalo were scum Rainbow. Don't feel bad." Braeburn stated.
Rainbow Dash was confused. Why would she feel bad for the monsters who had hurt her lover? Rainbow Dash was almost... happy about what had happened to them. She started to open her mouth but Braeburn turned to walk toward the sky chariot before she could gather her thoughts. As Braeburn took a seat inside the cramped chariot he looked at Big Mac's broken body, he had a cast around a leg that the buffalo goons had hobbled. The bandages that had been placed around Big Mac had started to soak with blood again. The unconscious red stallion lay waiting for proper medical care. The shy chariot took off in a direction that would lead it to Canterlot but avoid the storm that brewed in the distance. Rainbow Dash wasn't scared of a little rain, she flew straight toward the gathering storm in a blaze of passion.
Rainbow Dash zipped across the sandy landscape, even at full speed the trip to Canterlot would take a while. The blue pegasus occupied herself with thought. Voices played through her head as the memories of the day invaded her mind.
“I will always love you Dash, Remember. “All of what I do is for Us” Big Macintosh's voice replayed in her head.
Rainbow Dash felt streams of water roll down her cheeks. She wasn't in the rain yet, she was crying from the harsh experience seeping into her head. Insane possibilities ran through her mind as she contemplated the meaning of what her lover had said. Fighting her emotions the cerulean pegasus did the same thing she did every time she was running from her feelings, she dashed. Rushing into the swirling wind of the storm full speed Rainbow Dash had not noticed the intensity of the winds had picked up. Speeding faster than she had ever gone in a straight line before, a sonic rainboom exploded behind her. The force of the winds unbalanced the current, sending Rainbow Dash into a spiraling descent toward the rocky outstretch of land that lay between the quaint dessert town and the majestic city. The journey was a short fall before Rainbow Dash impacted the rough terrain, skidding across jagged rocks that tore into her flesh. She let out a sharp cry of pain as she hit the ground at high speed. Standing up with cuts and bruises, Rainbow Dash dusted herself off. No physical pain could hurt more than the emotional pain she felt right now. Taking off into the torrential downpour once again Rainbow Dash paced herself as she flew through the liquid pelting her coat.
The storm was violent but short lived, after emptying their fluid the dark clouds dissipated to reveal the sky. Luna had raised the moon, stars shimmered down onto the rocky landscape. Rainbow Dash picked up her speed again, her body throbbed from the fall she had taken but she fought through the pain. Each flap of her wings sent her body hurtling faster toward her destination. The light from Canterlot peered through the darkness as a faint dot in the distance. Banking sharply upward Rainbow Dash rode an air current high into the sky. Zipping in and out of tufts of cloud that still dotted the night sky in places, Rainbow Dash sped toward the glowing city.
As Rainbow Dash entered the gates of the city, several ponies watched her with strange expressions. Her coat was dirty, blood slowly oozed from the fresh wounds glistening in the lights of exotic lamps that lined the illustrious streets. Rainbow Dash didn't care, she ignored the stares of ponies making her way toward Canterlot Medical. As she aproached the gigantic building, she froze for a moment. On the outside wall "Canterlot Medical Center" peered out over the city. She was stunned by the sheer size of the building that had been built strictly to nurse injured ponies back to health. The blue pegasus looked into the sky toward the top of the building wondering if Big Mac had arrived yet. She quickly trotted toward the glass doors that led inside the tall structure to find out. Upon entering the door of the medical establishment which was much bigger than Appleoosa's Rainbow Dash was almost instantly met by a brown coated unicorn wearing blue scrubs.
"Woah?" The wide eyed surgeon pony said looking at Rainbow Dash's scrapes and cuts. "Do you need some help?"
For a second Rainbow Dash was silent. Quickly she spoke out.
"Where is Big Macintosh?" She demanded.
The brown stallion raised one eyebrow confused, he had no idea what she meant. He quickly suggested that Rainbow Dash come with him.
"Big, what now? I think you should let me take a look at those cuts." He said in a near demanding voice.
Rainbow Dash reluctantly followed behind the insistent doctor. The hallways of Canterlot Medical were bland. Unlike in Appleoosa, blank white walls stretched on seemingly endlessly. Forever illuminated by fluorescent lighting. Elevators and staircases connected duplicates of the first floor to others that stacked upward. The faint smell of blood was much heavier in the halls of the prestigious hospital. Ponies came in from all corners of Equestria with wounds no other hospital could cure. The brown doctor entered an empty room as Rainbow Dash followed him inside. Quickly levitating a bottle and clean cloth from a medical desk, the doctor saturated the cloth with the clear liquid. The dour smell of disinfectant filled Rainbow Dash's nose as the cloth levitated near her. Rainbow Dash's still bleeding wounds stung as the liquid seeped from the cloth, cleaning them out. The doctor pony gently bandaged the wounds as he cleaned them, careful not to cause too much pain. Rainbow Dash's ears perked as the doctor's pager chirped startling both of them in the quiet buzz of the florescent lights. The doctor pony read the message he had received before turning back to Rainbow Dash.
"All done." The brown pegasus said. "I have to go now, There is an earth pony from Appleoosa on his last hoof coming in through the roof right now. It's my job to save him."
Rainbow Dash felt her heart sink. Big Macintosh was on "his last hoof?" The doctor quickly realized the expression on Rainbow Dash's face remembering what she had told him only minutes before. The doctor knew that the pony who sat before him at this very moment depended on him to save a pony that she loved. The doctor was nearly unable to find words to comfort the rainbow-maned pegasus whom he had just patched up.
"Miss?....." The doctor said pausing for a second. "Canterlot Medical Center is the most prestigeous medical establishment in all of Equestria, I have saved many ponies and I will do my absolute best to save every other pony that comes to my table."
Rainbow Dash felt a little better but the doctor's words didn't erase her worry for the strong-red stallion whom she loved so much. The doctor pony exited the room with Rainbow Dash in tow. The brown hoof of the doctor pointed down the long hallway back the way the two had come minutes before.
"You can wait for your friends down there. You did send a message for them didn't you? Friendship will help you get through this. Just stay strong... uhm... I didn't get your name."
Rainbow Dash looked at the doctor. His calm attitude soothed her, she quickly replied to his statement.
"My name is Rainbow Dash. Thanks doctor, please take care of Big Macintosh!" Tears started to stream from the blue pegasus's eyes.
"Well, stay strong Rainbow Dash. I have to go now, Big Macintosh needs me." The doctor said in a tone that made Rainbow Dash feel like he actually cared.
Rainbow Dash parted ways with the doctor. Slowly she cantered down the lonely hallway past occasional galloping ponies, adorned with the same blue scrubs as the brown-coat unicorn from before. She missed Big Macintosh so much, she hoped her friends were already here so she could release the emotions that suffocated her aching heart in the safety of their company.
