Forgotten
Recall
Load Full StoryRainbow Dash woke up with a hazy sight, nothing she hadn't been through before. But as she lifted her head, even though slowly, it still hurt, the blood rushing through was like a throbbing needle along the center line of her skull. Her mane hung to her side. Mane intact, no sever head injuries.
Letting her hoof off of her head, she stretched her hooves up, noticing not a single bit of pain.
She smiled. Perfectly unharmed. Or so she thought. Looking to the window, she spotted somepony new there. Looking around, the same familiar friends she saw nearly every day were there, and three new figures she does not recall ever seeing before.
A stallion. Strong build, brown coat, black mane that was just like hers, humongous wings. Bigger than hers even.
The two smaller ponies. Fillies. One bigger than the other, she saw. One was cyan, a black mane with streaks of different colors poking out at different places. the other, had a spectrum mane, but on a violet color, and a brown coat.
Besides the fact that they looked like her, they were unknown.
A doctor walked in, clipboard floating in yellow magic as his horned glowed the same color. He took only a step in, spotting the awakened mare, and smiled.
Approaching, he kept his voice low, speaking only near her.
"Good evening, Misses Dash.", the doctor began.
"Misses? Hol' up. I don't remember settling in my own cloud house yet."
"Oh dear. I feared this."
A pen levitated from his white coat pocket, writing on the pad quickly.
"Do you have any headaches? blood rush, pressure?"
"No. As I can see, I'm perfectly fine."
"Not exactly. What is the last thing you remember?"
"Uhm...Uh...I don't really know anything specific, but I remember everything up until last wednesday, the new pony that arrived too."
"Alright then. Major memory loss."
"Memory loss?" how would I lose my memory?"
"Head injury.", he clicked the pen, storing it back in it's pocket.
"Head injury?"
"Yes. You've been in here for about...three weeks. Comatose upon impact, the results said. You split your head open right down the middle. It's a wonder your mane even grew back, much less that your skull healed so quickly, correctly, and even the scar is barely visible."
"What?"
"You broke it down the middle, far enough to fit a number two pencil in without causign pain, or damaging anything more than the crack itself. You're lucky to be alive."
"How did this happen?"
"Well, I was told you were in a fight."
"Well, that does sound kinda like me. But...if I have memory loss, what's today?"
"Misses Dash, you are about twelve years behind in your own memory. The year itself is twelve thirty two, Songshine, the eleventh."
"I...Did...Did I miss the wonderbolts position? Please tell me I didn't..."
"Misses Dash, I do not know that."
The brown stallion appeared at the doctor's side, giving him a warm smile.
"Ah, Mister Dash."
"Correct. I took up the new name."
"Well, she's fine, except for a few years worth of memory loss. Don't worry, though. It'll come back to her."
"I sure hope so. Violet Streak and Rainbow Cloud will have a hard time adjusting, even after what happened."
"Well, I hope you can do your best."
The brown stallion nodded to the doctor and the doctor left, closing the door behind him quietly.
The brown stallion turned to Rainbow Dash, who looked at him with a bit of unease.
"Do you remember me?"
"No, who are you?", she turned her head, keeping one eye on him.
"I am Wind Vein the fourth. Expert flier and trickster, just like you are...were."
"What are you saying?"
"Well...After rainbow Cloud came along, you stopped the dangerous tricks, but kept a fit posture. After Violet Streak came, you just quit altogether."
Rainbow Dash looked at herself, holding her forelegs up, looking at her grown body. She had aged. No wrinkles, yet, but she showed sure signs of putting on some weight, and regular growth.
"I...I'll never be able to join the wonderbolts..."
"What are you saying? You made the last spot they had open!"
Rainbow Dash's head shot up, and she cringed, holding her head as it throbbed painfully.
"Are you alright?"
"Yeah, just a blood rush. What do you mean?"
"Well. you made the last position that had been opened up over a decade ago. You are the most famous wonderbolt in history, well known, too."
"But I don't remember it. It's like I never did become a wonderbolt, even if what you say is true."
"Mommy?!", Violet Streak's head rose, looking at the cyan mare.
hurrying to her hooves, the small, violet maned pegasus ran over to the side of the bed.
"Oh, mommy! I'm glad you're alright!!", she hopped onto the bed, wrapping her hooves around Rainbow Dash.
Letting go of her, Violet took a few steps back, stepping one hoof off the bed and nearly falling. All the other ponies in the room rose, heads up first, and then the small happy cheers spoken.
Rainbow Dash felt happy, thankful, then. Though, she didn't know half why, but guessed it was something to do with memory loss.
"Everypony.", Rainbow Dash spoke just above everypony.
They all looked at her, quieting down to listen.
"I'm not sure whether to apologize or not for making you all worry, but...I don't even know how I got here other than some head injury."
Most gasped.
"B-but, don't you remember me, mommy?", Violet asked, her eyes round with sorrow.
"I'm sorry, Violet. Or at least that's what your...father called you. I feel terrible about forgetting if I had any foals, even if it's plainly true as my hoof is round."
"But, mom. Do you even remember getting that necklace for mother's day?", Rainbow Cloud pointed to the gold chain hanging from her neck, an emblem of her own cutie mark hanging on the center.
Rainbow Dash's ears drooped, and she hung her head, "I'm sorry, but no. I don't remember anything after what happened...When that new stallion came to ponyville..."
Wind vein chuckled slightly, "Love, that stallion was me. But...Don't worry. It will all eventually come back. In the mean time, we'll all help you get going on your original habits and schedule."
"Well, at least something can be done. I hope this isn't permanent..."
"Well, we don't even know that yet, love. For now, your fillies need you to get back up on your feet, and get back in the air."
Rainbow Dash nodded, and without even calling the doctor, she threw the covers off and hopped out of the bed, standing a bit weakly on her hooves before she stretched and trotted in place.
"Hah. I feel a lot better."
"Wow, already on your feet.", Wind commented.
"Well, not easily. I feel really week, so I'll have to start exercising a bit. I don't want to look...overweight or anything."
"Oh, love, you look fine already. Even if you put on a few pounds, you're still my mare."
"That's the thing. Even though I barely even know you, my own foals, I believe what I have been told. But I just...don't quite understand. I'm waking up in a hospital bed, a stranger and two fillies nearby, none of them I never knew before. Then I'm told I'm a mother, and have been for twelve years, maybe less, and that...I'm married to somepony I didn't even know yet."
Wind let out a long breath, then nodded, "I understand. Memory loss must be serious. But, it's the truth. Celestia was the one who married us. She will tell you the same thing."
Rainbow Dash hung her head, "I get it, we are married, we have children, I am now part of WE. But, I still don't even know you, except for what you have told me today. I don't even know when my own fillies' birthdays are, nor yours, nor do I even know our own wedding anniversary. I don't even remember steeping onto a stage as a wonderbolt...."
Wind put a hoof on her shoulder, "You have before though. you just have to remember. And as your family, and closest loved ones, we'll do everything to help you get your memory back."
Rainbow Dash looked at Wind and smiled, "Thank you..."
