King Sombra's Victory
What a Surprise
Load Full StoryNext ChapterA knock was at the door. A door that had a familiar sign on it, a blue crystal heart belonging to the youngest alicorn in the home Princess Cadence. The door was silent, having no sound from the other side. But the guard waited, along with Princess Celestia, who seemed emotional. After some time, she put her head down and sighed. Surprisingly, the door opened slightly, showing Cadence. She hid some behind the door, seeming like she did not want to be noticed. The Princess of the Sun looked up and over at her niece. Looking up and down, firstly she saw her hair, seeing it looked similar to a scratchy bird nest. Originally, there were 3 split colors perfectly shown but now everything seemed jumbled and having so separation. Looking down, you would regularly see a necklace, having a simple design. No necklace was seen, or it was on but covered by darkness, a black jacket.
Searching further down, Celestia could still see a black jacket but when reaching the hooves faded scars covering the sides but were blocked by royal gold plated shoes.
"Cadence, please. Please come out"
"You know it was my fault!"
Celestia paused, remembering the reason why she had kept herself inside. If only Cadence would want to get over this.
"No it wasn't. Cadence you had no idea-"
"IT WAS STILL MY FaULT!!"
Cadence started her magic and almost angrily slammed her door until she stopped and looked at her aunt. Watching as she looked back with pleading eyes, Cadence let go of the door and dropped to the floor, sobbing.
Celestia quickly came to the floor and hugged her tightly, wanting to bring her niece a warm embrace. Celestia put her head down and nuzzled closely.
The Pink Princess sobbed for a while, wheezing and sniffling here and there. Her tears came out quickly, dropping to the floor and making a small puddle, then started coming out slow and long until they stopped showing at all.
Cadence started moving, trying to get up and away from her caretaker. She felt embarrassed, but not entirely changed by her own behavior.
"Oh, sorry Cadence" Celestia got up from her, leaving her hoof on her shoulder.
"So, how has today been?"
Cadence still looked down in a slumped position, not caring if what was happening was at all weird.
"It's been fine" she said in a depressed tone. Her hair came closer, flopping out and covering half her face.
The white Princess stayed quiet, seeing that Cadence wasn't in the mood to chat, unlike how she was a few months ago. Ever since the tragic incident of Shining Armor, it has changed the mare's life completely. Gone was the happy, carefree, and social Princess.
"Hey Cadence, why don't we stroll down the catwalk outside the castle?"
Cadence's eyes opened more seeming like she was interested. She was but not in a positive light. The last time she came out, that happened. The incident. The thing that scarred the 2 Princesses heavily. The thing that made her hide up in her castle and never want to be seen again.
"Cadence?"
"Sorry Celestia. I would like to come on a walk with you if that's alright?"
"Okay then, we can walk right now since I have the time, let's go!"
The elder alicorn grabbed the youngest hoof and teleported in a whim of magic.

"Hello Princess Celestia, hello Princess Cadence."
"Hello Sunburst" said Celestia. "How are you doing with your studies?"
"It's going along very well! I have just learned about a new blasting light spell. So far I have only tested it on plants but it was able to grow a wilting flower back to health!"
"That's wonderful."
The two continued to talk, student to teacher, teacher to student. Cadence listened in some, watching as the stallion stared more at the white alicorn. When Cadence looked up, her face flushing and heart beating faster.
She stared, looking at trying to see more of the face of the stallion. His eyes, the lightest baby blue she could ever see. His chin, having a thin and small beard but still somehow accentuating his orange chiseled chin. And his neck, even though 'Sunburst' had on a cape, she could see some fur being fluffed up and seeming like a comfy pillow.
"I would like to come over to Canterlot again, my friend is having a family reunion and really needs someone to help them. I thought that it would seem like a nice gesture to do."
"That is a very nice idea Sunburst. Well, I hope you have a nice time with your friend and I wish the best for them" She smiled and looked to the side, seeing and waiting if Cadence would want to say anything.
Princess Cadence stared until hearing nothing and moved her head back. Princess Celestia smiled, before turning around.
"Come on Cadence, we have other things to do today."
Princess Cadence looked at the stallion, feeling like there was something in his eye.
Sunburst looked around with his eyes before speaking. "Wanna see my light spell?"
Princess Cadence looked confused, tilting her head a bit. "Umm, sure but I don't thi-AAAH!
The Princess began to see a giant wave of light, similar to when the Crystaling started but even stronger. After a few minutes Cadence fell over, passing out from the shinning that hurt her brain.
Sunburst smiled while giggling some. Realizing that his volume was a bit loud, he moved his head left to right, before hoisting the Princess on her back and making it to the Crystal Empire.
Princess Celestia stopped and looked to her side. As if on cue, Sunburst moved right next to Celestia.
"Princess Cadence had a bit of a fall apparently. Should I bring her back to her castle?"
Celestia paused and looked at the stallion. She smiled somewhat, thinking that maybe if she had someone who knew her more, then she'd have an easier time socializing with someone.
"Yes, Sunburst. Follow me and I will show you where her room is."
Celestia smiled and turned her head back slowly. After being able to see the kingdom of her niece from a distance she started walking. Sunburst walked also, his hooves moving in sync with the pony beside him. Princess Celestia stared, thinking of what do. She looked to the side at Sunburst, seeing him smile. She looked at him more, remembering what had happened with them today. Usually, Sunburst wasn't one to chat much and was a bit shy around her. But now he was fine, he must have done some surprising work, think it would even surprise her.
