Sci-Twi’s Mystery Machine of Randomness
The MMR
Load Full StoryNext Chapter“You made a what?” Asked Sunset, trying not to gather more attention than the clearly sleep-deprived zombie Sci-Twi that suddenly appeared in the middle of the cafeteria.
“An MMR,” Sci-Twi responded with stars in her eyes.
“What’s an MMR, darling?” asked Rarity, who was trying to give some decency to the crazy-scientist’s hair.
“I have no idea.”
“How does it work?”
“No idea.”
“So, you made a something that you don’t know how it works, or what it is?” Applejack looked as confused as the rest of her friends.
“I saw it in a dream, a very detailed one, and build it before I could forget anything.”
“And where did you build this thing?” Asked Rainbow, giving the girl some coffee, which she drank instantly.
“Let me show you.” Sci-Twi responded before running off, and the girls had to follow her.
They quickly arrived at one of the classrooms, and once they stepped inside, they saw some sort of weird platform a meter wide with two tall arcs as tall as a person that intersected above the center of the platform. The strange machinery had also been wired to a laptop siting in a desk.
“I present you; the MMR!” Exclaimed Sci-Twi, extending her arms in victory.
“Which stands for…?” Asked Sunset, a little freaked out by the girl’s behavior.
“No idea.”
“Okay, is there something you know about this thing that you constructed?”
“That I need a volunteer to test it!” She responded with a smile.
“Test it how?”
“You step inside the machine, I activate it, and… “
“You have no idea, don’t you?” Sunset asked with a deadpan expression.
“That just makes it more exiting!”
“Don’t you mean dangerous? Do you remember the last time you delved into something you didn’t understand?”
“But that was magic, this is science!”
“Mad science you mean.” Rainbow clarified.
“Come on, you’re not scared about some little testing, do you?”
“Of course not!”
“The why don’t you be the first to experience this exciting new adventure into the unknown?”
“You know what? I’m in, turn that thing on.” Rainbow walked towards the machine, and all the girls minus Pinkie and Sci-Twi facepalmed.
“Rainbow, for all we know, this thing will send you to another dimension or something.” Exclaimed Sunset.
“It does have a portaly kind of feel,” Pinkie admitted.
“Okay, how about this, I will only put my hand inside.”
Sunset gave an exasperated sigh.
“Fine, I just hope this thing won’t blow up in your face. Literally.”
Rainbow positioned her hand at the center of the platform, and the rest of the girls watched as Sci-Twi, still deranged-looking, pressed some buttons in the laptop.
“Test of the MMR number one, begins.”
The machine sprang to life with an earie white glow, and a little ray of light fell on Rainbow’s hand before it abruptly stopped, making a ‘ding’ sound, like a microwave.
“I don’t think it worked,” said Rainbow, looking at her hand, but was startled as all her friends started screaming. “What?! I have something in my face?!” She asked panicking.
“Your hand is gone!” Exclaimed Rarity, looking like she was about to faint.
“No, it’s not.”
“What?”
“it’s right here.” She showed her hand to the group, moving her fingers to prove it.
Sci-Twi walked towards her and meekly grabbed her hand like if it would spontaneously combust at any moment.
“She’s right, I can feel it.”
“So, her hand is invisible?” Asked Applejack, as confused as the rest but calmer.
“You made me invisible?! That awesome! Hit me again.” Rainbow quickly stood completely inside the machine with a face full of glee.
“I should do some testing first.”
“One invisible Dashie coming right up.” Exclaimed pinkie, hitting the button and showering Rainbow in light once again.
*DING*
When the light faded, Rainbow was no longer visible.
“Okay, I guess your machine worked after all.” Sunset admitted, still a little freaked out.
“I don’t think so.”
“What?”
“I don’t know, I feel like the MMR wasn’t working at full capacity.”
“You mean this thing could do more than turn someone invisible?”
“Maybe. I need to check it and see if I can do some modifications. Meanwhile, we should turn Rainbow back to visible.” As she said this, the door to the classroom opened and closed by itself. “Did she really just ditch the entire experiment?!” Sci-Twi screamed.
“To be honest, if I was invisible, I would probably try and use it too.” Pinkie Admitted.
“Doing what exactly?”
“Probably some pranks.” She responded matter-of-factly.
“Let’s look for her before she hurts herself and/or others.” Said Applejack, exiting the classroom along with Pinkie, Fluttershy and Rarity.
Sunset remained in place, and then looked at Sci-Twi with a stern look.
“We need to talk.” Sci-Twi smiled nervously. “What kind of Equestrian magic did you use to make this thing?”
“None, I swear. It’s just the magic of science.”
“Science doesn’t make people invisible!”
“Well… I may have scribed some ancient looking runes in some of the electronics.”
“Twilight! Honestly, what the fuck were you thinking?!”
“I wasn’t! I just wanted to construct it before I forgot how.”
“This thing could be dangerous!”
“But it’s not. It didn’t kill Rainbow, and you have to admit that turning invisible is awesome.”
“I won’t deny the last, but it could have easily been the first!”
“Look, just trust me in this one, I know this thing will give us some awesome results, I just need some tests and if I see anything that doesn’t work or is too dangerous I will scrap it and leave it be.”
“Twilight, you can’t- “
“Please Sunset, this thing will drive me crazy otherwise!” She begged, holding her friend by the arms.
“Fine! But get some sleep first.”
“Deal!” Sci-Twi put a mantel over the machine and exited the room with a jump in her step.
“I will regret this, I’m sure of it.”
