The Big Decision

Previous Chapter

Author's Note

This chapter will be very short. The final chapter of Rainbow Dash’s and Samuel’s story. The proposal to the wedding. If there is anything you would like to know, or anything I should clear up, please leave it in the comments below. Thank you.

I also plan on making a second story that takes place after season 5 with scenes from Parental Glidance and Flutter Brutter
Remember, I am just a beginner in writing and I’m not that experienced in setting my pace with the story.

The Big Decision

“Hey, babe. Do you want me to tear you to anything? Lunch, stiff drink, snacks, massage, anything?” Rainbow Dash was flying next to me as we headed back to her place. It’s been a full 2 days and I’ve left the hospital healthy and well rested. It was quite a shock to hear that Rainbow Dash was confirmed to be pregnant. I still couldn’t believe I was going to be a father, and I’d be married to the best wife in all of Equestria. Maybe even the universe. Speaking of which...

“I’m good Rainbow, really. I just want to spend some quality time with you. How about we do a little sparring? See how much you’ve learned, hm?” This seemed to grab her attention, because she looked at me with gleaming eyes and nodded her head vigorously. I knew she couldn’t resist some good old fighting.

We spotted an array of clouds and decided to use them as our sparring grounds. With all of the clouds spaced apart, it would be more difficult to just stay on one cloud and we would have to jump from cloud to cloud with grace and caution. “Alrighty then,” I shouted loud enough so Rainbow Could hear me on the other side, “Just a fair clean fight. No hits below the belt, gentle strikes; or as gentle as you can be, I won’t hit you because your pregnant, but if you can hit me in 5 minutes; once, I’ll declare you the winner, and absolutely no flying; unless you get thrown off a cloud and don’t want of all to your death. Got that?”

“No flying? Really?!” She was upset, but of course, willing to comply. “How about we make a bet? Whoever loses has to do the winner’s chores for a week.”

“Sounds good, I’ll make sure your tasks won’t be too difficult.” I smirked at her, watching the anger build up in her.

“Oh, yeah?! Don’t toot your own horn just yet!” She rushed at me, leaping from cloud to cloud and landing dead center on each one. She launched herself into the air and tried to do a air kick. I instinctively dodged to the side and grabbed one of her hind legs and threw her into my cloud, preventing her from recovering from the missed shot.

“You’re getting sloppy.” I teased her while watching her struggle to get up. She looked back at me with fire in her eyes. “Yes, that’s what I like to see! Show me what you got!” She jumped to a cloud behind me to one above me then one on my left. She was trying to move around me and find an opening. I assumed a stance: one hand in front of my face to protect my handsome face, one fist near my waist to get ready to strike, and my feet in a wide stance to maintain a strong base. I closed my eyes and listened to the sound of hooves hitting clouds and the sound of hooves leaving clouds. There it was.

There was a small delay in this one and that only meant one thing. I opened my eyes and spun around, catching Rainbow Dash’s fore-hoof in my hand. “Gonna have to do better than that if you want to—“ I didn’t finish my taunt when I felt a wack hit my cheek and sent me sprawling towards the edge of my cloud. I rubbed my cheek which was now burning with pain. I looked up at Rainbow Dash and saw her wearing a prideful grin. “Not bad. Not bad at all,” I said, giving her a well deserved round of applause. “But you can do a lot better, you’ve got room for improvement. I can’t wait for our little foal to meet her fighter-of-a-mother. Oh yeah, and you win, congrats.” She rushed over and hit my shoulder, which, honestly hurt a lot, but I still smiled at her.

All of this felt good, but I had a nagging question at the back of my mind, and Rainbow Dash must have seen my face. “What’s wrong babe? You good?”

“Hey, Rainbow Dash, I have a question.” She lowered herself down to the cloud and waited eagerly for what I had to say. “We’ve only been dating for at least a week, but I really love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You’re the first pony to accept me without question, you’ve so kind to me when we first met, and. I matter what happens we’ve always had each others backs.” I started to tense up and thought to myself: No! Now is not the right time! You should wait a little longer, it’s only been a week! But I shook off these thoughts and dropped to one knee. Rainbow was blushing and she looked like she was going to cry an entire river. I reached behind me and pulled out a box covered in red velvet fabric. “Will you, Rainbow Dash, make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?” I opened the box to reveal a gold, diamond encrusted engagement ring with a her cutie mark engraved on the center of it.

Her eyes grew wide and they started flooding with tears. She lunged at me and hugged so tight, my bones felt like they might snap. “Yesyesyesyesyesyesyes! Iloveyouiloveyouiloveyouiloveyou!” She gave a kiss on the lips and we fell over on the cloud and kept our lips locked together until she finally let go, with tears still streaming down her face and a beautiful grin. “It took you *sniffle* long enough to ask. Even if it was *sniffle* for a week.” She hugged me again, but not as tight this time. “How did you get an engagement ring like that? It must have cost a fortune?”

“Well, Rarity was the one who made it for me. After finding out about our relationship, Rarity took it upon herself to make the most exquisite engagement ring in existence.” I grabbed her right hoof and slid the ring into it and marveled at its lustrous shine.

“It’s beautiful.”

“It was made for a beautiful pony.” How about we head home? I’ll be doing your chores for a week remember?” We laughed and headed home to relax and maybe bathe the smell of sweat off of our bodies.

Darkness enveloped the room as we tucked ourselves into bed, thought we couldn’t sleep. “Hey, Dash,” I whispered.

“Hm?” She turned over and faced me, her muzzle inches away from my mouth.

“When would you like to have the wedding?”

“I’m not sure. We could probably try in a few months? I don’t want to rush anything just yet you know? I loved how you proposed to me, but it was very quick. So let’s just wait a few months and we can plan it then, okay?” She pecked my lips and nuzzled under my chin.

“Yeah. That sounds like a good idea. Goodnight Dash.” We closed our eyes for the night and drifted to sleep to awaken for anew and spectacular morning.

It’s been months now and it’s finally the day. “Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck!” I was scrambling to get ready. My clothes have barely even been ironed, my vows were only partially complete, and I didn’t have Rainbow Dash to comfort me. She was off preparing herself for the wedding at Rarity’s boutique, and I can’t imagine what could be going through her mind. Was she panicking? Nervous? Overwhelmed? “Damnit, snap out of it!” I slapped myself and tried to calm myself down. Big Mac, my best stallion, peeked from behind the door and saw the chaos that enveloped my room.

“Uh, you alright there bud?” Despite the fact that Big Mac doesn’t speak much, he’s been very chatty around me. We’ve made a great friendship and he doesn’t mind talking around me. I looked at him with crazed eyes, but that didn’t deter him. Instead he came closer and sat right next to me at the foot of my bed. “Hey, partner, what’s wrong with ya? You’re usually more relaxed than this?”

“Big Mac, I’m just stressing about the wedding. I-I don’t know if I can do this? I mean, I want to marry Rainbow Dash, but what if I mess something up? I’m barely ready to go outside! What if I choke up and don’t say my vows or don’t say I do or—“ Big Mac placed a hoof over my mouth to shut me up.

“Look, now I don’t know much about love and stuff, but I can tell ya that you will do just fine. If ya love her, there’s no reason you should be afraid to mess up. It’s your girl. Y’all are both nervous ‘bout this big day, so don’t ya think Rainbow would be just as scared at messin’ up as you?”

I took a deep breath and released it, calming myself down. “I’m glad I picked you as my best stallion, Big Mac.” I smiled at him and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Ah shit, I still gotta get ready and get to Town Hall in... 10 minutes?!”

The bells were ringing as ponies gathered inside the Town Hall. As I stood on the podium awaiting my future wife, I looked around and saw all of our friends standing to the right as the bridesmaids and Spike as the necklace bearer, to the left I had Big Mac and Prince Shining Armor to the left of me, I looked into the crowd and saw a few familiar faces: Granny Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Cake, even all three Princesses: Celestial, Luna, and Cadence. I smiled to everyone and waved. Suddenly Fluttershy’s bird choir began to play classic marriage music and everyone turned to face the front doors of Town Hall.

The doors slowly opened and out came the love of my life dressed in a beautiful, pearl white outfit. She walked down the isle with all eyes on her. Most of our fiends were shedding tears at the sight of their beloved Rainbow Dash getting married. She climbed up on the platform and we looked into each other’s eyes. There was no nervousness, no worry; only peace, calm and hope. Exactly what I felt.

“Ladies and gentlecolts,” began Mayor Mare, “we are gathered here today to celebrate the union of Rainbow Dash, the pegasus and Samuel, the human. Despite them being together for only a few months, they have proven time and time again that their love is unbreakable, no matter what hardships they face and despite their differences, they have proven that love can come in all forms. May we have the necklaces?”

Spike came forward with two beautiful necklaces: a dark, sky blue sapphire for Rainbow Dash and a flaming red ruby for me. Spike placed both necklaces on us respectively and we turned to face each other.

“I now pronounce you, husband and wife!” proclaimed Mayor Mare. “You may kiss the bride!” Dash leapt into my arms and placed a soft, loving kiss on my lips. I held her tightly, not wanting to end this glorious moment—however we did have to break for air anyway. Everyone clapped their hooves and stomped their seats as we waved and walked down the isle and out the door, where a pegasus drawn carriage was awaiting us. “After you, my lady.” I bowed as I opened the door to let in my newly wedded wife.

“Heheh, thanks, my big strong man.”

We got into the carriage and flew off towards Cloudsdale, as we began a new chapter for our new lives as husband and wife.
