Mortal Kombat Legends: Heroes Rising
Rebel Spirits/A Dark Future
Previous ChapterHello everyone, Shiro Shinobi here! Six months ago, Avatar Korra and Liu Kang defeated Amon and the Equalists. Princess Celestia and Lord Raiden finally had their child Solar Storm, who has indeed become their greatest joy. Since then the council was disbanded and the United Republic elected its first president. Which to me seems like a bad idea, Tenzin's brother, Commander Bumi, retired and moved to Air Temple Island. And Korra and her boyfriend Mako have been the talk of the town. Peace has come to Republic City, but unbeknownst to the Avatar, danger now threatens the Southern Water Tribe.
The Middle Sea
Far off the shores of Republic City, a boat was sailing in rough waters, its horn blaring in the darkness. Two sailors, looking out over the water from the top of their boat. One of the sailors looked to the other, noticing something about him. “This your first watch?” He asked him.
The other sailor looked to him, and nodded his head to him. “Mmhmm.” He hummed.
“Well then, better keep your eyes peeled laddie.” The older sailor said to him and looked out. “Ya never know what creatures lurk in the murky depths.” He told him, the younger sailor gasps and looks overboard, while the older one chuckles as he walks off, smiling eerily.
The young sailor looked around, only to see what appeared to be some sort of squid like creature swimming beneath the boat, that had him scared. “Uh, Sir!” He called out to him.
“What?” He asked, only to see a tentacle appear and snatch him from the boat.
The young sailor panicked as he watched it happen. “Man overboard! Man overboard!” He cried out in fear as the older sailor is dragged into the water, as several more tentacles appear and begin grabbing the boat. The young sailor panicked as the tentacles started squeezing the boat, but he soon heard a dark and evil chuckle from above, and looked up to see a dark figure floating above him. “Who are you?” He asked him.
The figure floated down, revealing himself into the light. The sailors eyes widened, seeing him to be the mad god himself… Shinnok. He walked over to the young sailor and kneeled to him seeing the fear in his eyes. “Do you fear death…? Do you fear that dark, abyss…? All your deeds lay barren… all your sins, punished… I can offer you, an escape from it.” He said to him with an evil grin.
“Don’t listen to him!” One of the sailors shouted, only to get grabbed by a tentacle, and brought forth to Shinnok as he looked to him.
He observed his face as he looked to his eyes. “Do you not… fear death…?” He asked him.
The sailor struggled in the tentacles grip as he glared at him. “I’ll take my chances!” He yelled at the mad god.
Causing him to smirk as he looked to the creature bellow. “To the depths.” He told it as the squid dragged the sailor to his death as he screamed and was pulled deep into the water. “This could have been a great opportunity for you and your crew mates… but then again, this…” He gestures to the dead around the boat, putting more fear into the youngest eyes. “The legacy of life, is death… and soon, your realm will be mine.” He told the sailor as he snapped his fingers, allowing the squid to drag the boat into the water, with everyone on board. Shinnok grinned in satisfaction as he watched the spectacle, then Nightmare Moon appeared behind him, which immediately caught his attention. “Where is the Avatar…?” He asked her.
“In Earthrealm, experiencing its wonders no doubt.” She told him.
“She’ll return… the Harmonic Convergence is upon us, send word to our ally that all is going according to plan… and make sure, to keep a close eye on him. I do not trust him as far as I can throw him.” Shinnok told her.
“Your will be done my lord.” Nightmare said to him as she bowed to him, and vanished.
Seeing her gone, Shinnok looked towards the south, where the Southern Water Tribe was and grinned as his eyes glowed. “Soon you will be free old friend, together we will blanket this world in darkness… and then, my brothers and sisters will see just how mad I really am.” He said as he vanished into thin air.
28 years into the future
Within the distant future, all of Republic City stood in ruins with fires blazing, smoke filling the atmosphere, and people screaming as demons chased after them. One winged demon flew towards one of the civilians and snatched him up, biting into his neck and mauled him to death. Another winged demon flew over the city in search of a meal, its attention soon caught that of a young girl who sat in the feeble position, unable to move for she was scared out of her mind. The demon licked its fanged lips and swooped down towards her snarling, but while it wasn’t looking, a Shaolin warrior stood on a ruined building, earning its attention. The warrior wore a Shaolin outfit that was red with blue patterns and silver trim, and wore a red headband as his hair was tied in a ponytail. He leaped into the air and dove down towards it, letting out a fierce battle cry as he thrusts a kick. Flames surrounded his foot as he slammed it against the demons chest, forcing his way through the winged beast as he kicked its heart out.
The demon writhed from it as it painfully died from the attack and fell to the ground, the warrior landed on the ground as he crushed the demons heart underfoot. He looked to the young girl and walked to her, kneeling down to face her. “Hey.” He called to her as she looked to him in surprise, but backed away in fear. “No, it’s okay… you’re safe now.” He told her as he held out his hand to her, she hesitated at first, but she soon reached to his hand and took it. The warrior smiled and lifted her up and carried her to safety, and avoid being spotted along the way. But he soon stopped and noticed the charred remains of former President Raiko, and glared knowing it was his fault for letting this happen in the first place. He turned away and led the young girl to a secret entrance and opened it for her. “Take these tunnels to the underground shelters beneath the city, you’ll be safe there, I promise.” He told her with a reassuring smile.
The child looked up to him, and smiled as she leaped up and hugged him. He smiled from it and returned the hug and let her go, while she did the same and looked to him. “Thank you mister.” She said to him as she headed into the tunnel, the warrior watched her go and closed the entrance to make sure no one finds it. He looked around and headed out to the city and climbed up to a roof top and looked around seeing the destruction around him.
He never imagined his life would be this way, especially with his friends who also survived this unexpected Armageddon. “Lee!” Called a voice as he looked behind him, and saw a woman, blonde hair, wearing a bluish silver Special Forces suit, carrying twin pistols behind her as she walked up to him. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you.” She told him.
“Well you found me Cass… what’s the situation?” Lee asked her.
“The Revenants have been on the move, they’re searching through the city trying to find survivors. But we managed to get everyone underground without detection. But we may have to relocate soon to avoid being discovered, did you find anyone out here?” Cassie asked him.
“I did, a little girl was close to getting her head bitten off, but I made sure that didn’t happen.” He responded and looked out hearing large footsteps. “Take cover!” He whispered as he took cover with her, as a giant dark figure walked passed them. Lee looked out and saw the giant sized man, who was possessed by a dark spirit, who became a dark god among men. The figure looked around the area searching for any survivors or rebel forces… he scanned the area, but found nothing and proceeded on through the city. Lee glared at the dark figure, but knew he was no match for him. “Come on, let’s regroup with the others.” He told her as he sneaked off with her to get to the underground hideout.
(~)
At the underground, civilians of all nations were being sheltered by those who had saved them from the demons and revenants that were roaming around the world above. A girl with dark hair and red strands helped blanket an elderly woman, to help her keep warm. “There you go ma’am… that should keep you nice and warm.“ She said to her.
“Oh, thank you young lady.” The elderly woman said to her, earning a smile from her in return.
“Yang!” Called an annoying voice, the girl who he called Yang, looked to him with much annoyance. “Lee and Cass are back.” He told her.
Her annoyed look vanished as she got up, picking up Kung Lao’s hat with her as she placed it behind her back. “Be right there Jin!” She called out to him as she crouched down and leaped up and landed next to him. “You could have said something before calling my name.” She teased him with a smirk.
Jin, was not amused. “Very funny Yang, least I’m not the one carrying my cousins hat, to which, by the way, I’m still older than you.” He reminded her.
“Right, what’s that word I’m looking for? Oh yeah, blow me.” Yang told him as she chuckled walking away, earning a scowl from her uncle. The Kung duo walked to where they were… while by the springs, a woman sat by the waters edge, looking at her reflection.
She stared at herself, reminding herself of her mother, she closed her eyes as tears brimmed. Till suddenly, a new voice called out to her. “Reina.” Called the voice as she turned around and saw it was her friend from the Shirai Ryu, Takeda. He walked up to her as he gestured her to follow him. “Come on, Lee and Cassie are back.” He told her.
Her eyes were filled with surprise, but she smiled happily knowing he was all right as she got up and headed to where they were. Lee looked over the map of Republic City to know where the revenants were, and the dark entity that was roaming about up there. Reina approached from behind and went to strike him, but he managed to avoid it and catch her arm, turning towards her as his face was close to hers. She chuckled from it, and looked to him with a smile. “Do you ever get tired of beating me?” She asked him.
“You make it easy.” Lee told her as he leaned to her and kissed her lips, which she happily accepted.
Soon enough, a sound of throat clearing was heard, and they looked to see that it was their friend Jacque, giving them a disapproving look. “Really…? Now?!” She asked them.
“Yeah guys, can’t you save that for some other time?” Asked a warrior in a Lin Kuei styled suit, this was Tundra, he crossed his arms in disapproval as he looked at them. “We’re trying to win a war, and you two are smooching.” He said to them.
“Not like you and Ursa have something going on while we’re out risking our lives.” Lee said to him, earning a blush, and an icicle shot from Tundra to which he easily avoided. “Sheesh, it was just a joke.” He said to him.
“Stow it, all of you!” Said an elderly voice, stepping out of the shadows, was a very old Johnny Cage, giving the cadets a scolding look. “We’re all trying to work together here, we can’t be making jokes, and fighting amongst ourselves.” He told them.
Solar approached them and looked to Lee. “Lee, how bad has it gotten out there?” She asked him.
“You mean besides the seas boiling, to the point everything in the ocean and on the surface suffering? That mad god has turned this realm into his personal stomping grounds, and without the Elder Gods, we can’t even stop him.” Lee told him.
A young woman, at least a few years younger than Solar Storm, approached with Kenshi’s katana, and Kenshi’s sash around her neck. Her name was Mizuki, the daughter of Kenshi, and Princess Luna. “The Elder Gods didn’t even stand a chance against him.” She told them.
“No, but we’ve all trained for this very purpose, to defend anyone who survived this.” Yang told him.
“So far, we managed to save as many as we could, but we will have to relocate soon.” Said an older Jinora as she approached with her brothers and sister.
“I have to agree with Jinora, but the problem still remains… the Revenants.” Takeda pulled up astral images of the revenants, who were their now fallen parents. Lee looked at his father Liu Kang, and his mother Kitana who stood before him in their revenant armor, shutting his eyes knowing they were the last to fall. (Think like MK11 designs.)
Reina looked at her parents, looked away seeing how dark they had become… even Cassie was devastated to see her mother the way she was, earning a comforting hand to her shoulder from her father. “Cass… it wasn’t your fault.” He told her to comfort her.
“No… it was Unalaq. He unleashed that demon, and destroyed everything before we were even born.” Cassie glared knowing he was responsible for the devastation of this realm.
Kung Jin walked up to her and nudged her. “I hate the guys guts as much as you do, but we can’t do anything about it.” He told her.
“Actually.” A voice called out, and everyone looked to a young man who approached them. He had a scholars outfit, but had traits of a warrior as well, Stride was his name, and he was the son of Starlight Glimmer, and Sunburst. “There is a way we can prevent all of this from happening.” He told them.
“Oh, now you come out to tell us?” Ursa asked him as she crossed her arms.
“I know my mom didn’t have the best reputation, and she may have even rubbed off on me.” Stride told them as he reached back and pulled out the scroll she was going to use. “This scroll was copied off of Starswirl the Bearded’s original method of time travel, but my mom made it better, for it would’ve allowed her to travel back in time to ruin the friendships of Twilight and her friends.” He explained.
“Okay, remember when I called Commander Bumi nuts? Your moms got him beat.” Kung Jin said to him.
“Jin!” Takeda shouted at him.
“Well she is…!” He responded back.
“Show some respect!” Shouted Akari, who was the daughter of Twilight and Flash. “At the very least, she didn’t use it.”
“Look, my mom changed after the events of the Equalist War. She may not of had the best reputation, but this is our only chance to stop Unalaq from ruining the world.” Stride told them.
Johnny thought about it, and looked to him. “But there’s a catch, isn’t there?” He asked him.
Stride nodded his head in response and looked to the others. “Only two of us can go…” He informed them as the large group looked amongst each other, trying to decide who should go, and who should stay in the post apocalyptic future they’re in.
Takeda looked to Johnny and walked up. “Commander, you should go, your wife is still alive in the past… you can prevent her from dying then.” He said to him.
“No… my place is here in the future, where the fight is.” He responded.
Hiro, the son of Bolin and Asami crossed his arms looking to him. “Got a death wish, don’t ya?” He asked him.
“Commander Cage is right, reason being if we send him… there will be a serious problem. Because there will be two Johnny Cages, both at the same place, and at the same time. Meaning one of them will have to vanish.” Stride told them.
“That may be, but one of them may end up disappearing anyway.” Yang told him.
“Exactly… which is why I will choose two of our own to go.” Johnny told them as he looked amongst them, to decide who will go into the past. His eyes set upon the two that will go. “Lee, Reina… you two will go to the past.” He told them.
Everyone was surprised by this decision, where as Kung Jin looked to Johnny with a scowl given his rivalry with Lee. “Sir, I know it’s not my place, but why Lee? He’s a hot head.” He told him as he earned a scowl from Lee.
“Because Jin, his father and Korra have been close friends since they first met, and are the only ones who can save our future, and those we love.” Johnny explained to him as he looked to the others. “I know all of you are eager to go with them, but I’m afraid it’s not our fate.” He told them.
They all looked down, knowing that there was no other way to settle this. Lee and Reina looked to each other and nodded to each other, looking towards Stride as they walked over to him. “We’re prepared for what lies ahead.” He told him as astride nodded and pulled out the scroll, and prepared a portal back in time. Lee looked to the other heroes of the next generation. “I promise, we will set things right.” He told them as they nodded their heads to him and Reina.
Stride used the scrolls magic to open a gateway back to the past, but before Lee and Reina could proceed, the ground began to shake as they all looked around knowing what it was. “They’re here…” Muttered Johnny as he looked to Lee. “Lee, you and Reina better hurry, because this is a mission only you and Reina can accomplish. Get to the past, undo Unalaq’s work, save our future.” He told him, earning a quick nod from Lee as the doorway to the surface starts getting blasted. Johnny looked to it as he stood ready along with the other heroes. “Go Lee, go now!” He shouted as Lee and Reina watched as their friends and loved ones prepared for the worst, taking one last look as they rushed into the portal, allowing Stride to close it quickly as the door to the surface blasted open.
Dust and debris filled the entrance, and as it cleared, the Revenant versions of all of Johnny’s friends stepped through. Standing amongst them, was Korra and Mako. Along with Bolin and Asami, and there was also Sonya as she grinned evilly. “Hello Johnny.” She greeted him.
But Johnny scowled, knowing that wasn’t his Sonya. “General Blade.” He replied.
“I hope you’ve picked your coffin… because today, your resistance ends today!” She shouted and blasted at them as th Revenants went in for the kill, causing the next generation of heroes to defend themselves.
28 years in the past
Meanwhile, Lee and Reina arrived in the past, and looked around seeing Republic City the way it was before the apocalypse. They were surprised that the spell actually worked, they were literally in the past. “Okay, gotta thank Starlight for making that scroll.” Lee said to himself.
“Ditto.” Reina agreed with him as she looked around, but looked to him eagerly. “If memory serves, my mom is currently in Earthrealm at this time.” She told him.
“So what do we do, wait for her to return?” Lee asked her.
“It’s the only logical solution at this point… come on, let’s go book into a hotel before-“
“We’ll look what we have here.” A gangster interrupted Reina as he approaches. “Now there’s a lovely sight… tell you what sweet cheeks, why don’t you come with me, and ditch this loser.” He told her as he earned a glare from Lee. “I’ll make it worth your while, trust me when I say you don’t want to miss out on what I have to offer.” He told her.
But her response, was a hard blast of firebending to his face, that managed to burn his hair and eyebrows off, making him lose his good looks. He felt it was all gone, and screamed as everyone around, even Lee started laughing at him as he ran away. “I’m starting to remember how much assholes were around this time… come on, let’s get moving.” She told him as she walked away with him.
Pro Bending Arena
Meanwhile within the Pro Bending Arena, everyone was extremely excited for the match to begin as Shiro Shinobi prepared for his monologue. “Iiiiit's pro-bending night in Republic City, and have we got a doozy for you! Fan favorites, the Fire Ferrets, are about to take on hot newcomers, the Rhino Lions!“ He announced to the crowd.
Meanwhile, Bolin was now the team captain of the Fire Ferrets as he smiled with his hands on his hips. Pabu is perched atop the railing separating the player's locker room from the playing field. Even Spike was with him as he climbed up, and looked to Bolin. “Okay, this is the big night… but are you sure you’re up for this?” He asked him.
“Is a hog monkey ready ready to fight for its territory?” Bolin asked him with a smirk.
But Spike gave him an unsure look from hearing his overconfidence. “Well, you’re the captain, captain…” He commented knowing this might not end well.
Bolin turned to his team, feeling confident in them. “Relax Spike, we got this, I can’t feel it. Now we all know that our last match was garbage. Terrible! Even Spike and Pabu could've done a better job.” He told them out of brutal honesty.
Which caused Spike to scowl at him. “Subtle.” He said to him.
“But that's in the past, because when you back a Fire Ferret in the corner, well mister, he comes out fighting!“ Bolin told his team as he confidently raises his fist before his body, while Pabu hisses, arching his back as Bolin confidently points toward the arena. “So, let's get out there and bend like there's no tomorrow. Are ya with me?“ He asked his teammates, who surprisingly were made to look like a certain friend, and certain brother of his.
One was a male waterbender, who somewhat resembles Mako, sitting dejectedly on the bench, while the female firebender, who somewhat resembles Korra, stands awkwardly next to him. She glances down at her teammate, holding her right elbow with her left arm. The only reaction of either of them comes from the waterbender, who rubs his nose with his left hand, while sniffing. Spike watched feeling nervous of it, and immediately facepalmed and looked towards Pabu. “How soon till things get bad?” He asked him as Pabu shrugged his shoulders. Once in the arena, the Fire Ferrets and the Rhino Lions lined up before each other. As the bell to announce the start of the match rings, both teams ready their respective element.
As the match went on as fast as it started… the Fire Ferrets are quickly sent to the end of the playing field. First Bolin, followed by his two teammates, who are knocked over the rim into the water, each being hit by their respective element. The buzzer sounds, signaling a zone-line has been crossed. “Ooh, the Fire Ferrets go down in the water, and right into the record books for the fastest knockout in Pro-bending history!“ Shiro announced to the crowd of what he witnessed.
Even Spike groaned knowing he predicted this and looked to Pabu. “Remind me to never place bets on games like these.” He said to him as Pabu nodded in response.
Meanwhile, Bolin puts his head down, sighing in disappointment. “Where's Mako when I need him?” He asked himself, only to hear a fit of laughter and saw Johnny and Pinkie waiting for him at the shore.
“Bo, no offense… but you might want to consider a carrier change. Because I don’t think Mako and Korra are coming back to pro -bending.” He told him.
“He’s right Boly, maybe you should listen to Johnny. Sure he may be a goofball.” Pinkie pointed out.
“Hey!” Johnny shouted.
“But he can be wise when he wants to be, while throwing in a few wise cracks while he’s at it.” Pinkie added to her point.
But Bolin scowled as he swam towards the shore and climbed out. “Well I would have won, I just need a better team, that’s all.” He said to him.
Johnny merely snickered as he helped Bolin onto his feet. “Look, I get it, you want fame, you want fortune, but all of that? It’s just gonna tie you down, you should broaden your horizons, go from place to place. Because money and fame can only get you so far, believe me, I know… I’ve been there myself.” He said to him, Bolin looked down knowing this was his dream, but how can he find his true path he wondered? Even he didn’t know.
Republic City
Meanwhile in the city, a rider on a motorcycle shifts the gear; the wailing of a police siren is heard. While ahead of him on the street was a truck as it flies around the corner, driving straight down the road with screeching tires. The motorcycle is hot on its tail and drives after them. A patrol care follows after him, and the one driving it was none other than Stryker himself. “Better take it easy on that motorcycle Mako, otherwise you’ll be getting its repair bills if you wreck it.” He told him over the mic.
“Relax chief, I’ve had plenty of practice on this thing to keep that from happening.” Mako responded to him as he rode after the criminals. The rear door on the vehicle raises to reveal two men, one of the men makes circular motions with his hands to bend water from inside the truck. As the liquid flows to him, he claps his hands together, rapidly transforming the water into a mist to hide the speeding truck from Mako’s view. The truck as it races off, while the mist fills the entire length of the street. Mako saw it as he enters the fog, while in the back of the truck, water was still flowing out of it. One of the men forces his hand down, the water was now flowing onto the road, freezing as the truck travels along the street. Mako emerges from the mist and saw what they did, causing him to gasp as his vehicle starts to slip on the ice.
Mako begins to spin out of control, but he quickly uses his firebending to create a circle around him, melting the ice, and enabling him to regain control of the bike as its wheels find solid ground. He swerves out of the path of the rest of the ice and resumes his pursuit. Stryker was impressed at how well he handled that situation. “He’s good, I’ll give him that. But I doubt he can be fit for the Special Forces.” He said to himself.
As the truck runs down a road blockade and narrowly misses an incoming police truck from a street to its right. Mako finds his road now blocked, and swerves to his left, where a truck with wooden beams that form a ramp stands in his way. Without hesitation, he steers his motor onto the ramp. He uses his firebending to launch himself and his bike into the air, where he flips over, and aims a powerful fire stream at the truck's engine as he comes down. The truck began to screech from its tires as heavy smoke comes from underneath the truck's hood, and its engine explodes, causing it to spin uncontrollably. Mako lands and stops his vehicle. He watches as the truck races him by, hit a water hydrant, flips on its roof, slides along over the road, and flips to its side. As the vehicle comes to a stop, it partially explodes. Afterwords, two of the three passengers are already lying in front of the truck, and the driver lets himself fall from out of the broken windshield. He lands on top of his two comrades, eliciting a grunt from them. Mako got off his motorcycle and walks toward them, removing his helmet and pushes up his goggles as he smirked at them. “Looks like you had some car trouble. Good thing the police are here.“ He told them as he smiled, While Stryker drove up with the rest of the police force behind him, earning Mako’s attention. “Stryker, did you see that? That was-“
“The most reckless thing I have ever seen in my life.” He told Mako as he interrupted him while Kabal appeared after chasing another group of criminals. “I understand you want to make a name for yourself, but pulling stunts like that, and coming up with catchphrases like that is no way to become a good cop.” He told him.
“If you want personal glory, then you best outta turn in your badge.” Kabal said to him.
Mako flinched a bit from his words. “But I caught them, didn’t I?” He asked him.
Stryker let out a sigh and looked to him. “Mako, you have to understand, in this line of work… lives will be at risk, even yours. Even in the Mortal Kombat tournament, you’ll put your life in your enemies hand.” He told him as he placed his hand on his shoulder. “Maybe you should consider your career choices, before you officially decide on what you want to be.” He told him and walked back to his patrol car, Mako watched him go and looked down in thought, wondering if this was really what he wanted.
Future Industries
Meanwhile at Future Industries, the sounds of a plane engine are heard before cutting to a close-up of a plane's landing gear hitting an airstrip. Switch to a shot of one of the propellers as it starts to lose speed. Switch to a shot of the plane as a whole; the pilot jumps out the cockpit and removes their helmet, walking up to a man in a blue overall, who walks up to meet the pilot half way. “I think these planes are finally ready to ship.” Asami told the engineer as she halted before him, smiling, while resting her right hand on her hip, and holding her helmet in her left.
“I hate to mention the elephant-rhino in the room, but since your father was thrown in prison, no company will work with us. We're nearly bankrupt.“ The engineer told her as Rainbow Dash and Rarity walked up.
“He’s got a point there Asami, I mean things haven’t exactly been the same since your father got locked up, and your families reputation started plummeting.” Rainbow Dash said to her.
“She’s right darling, without the money needed to keep it running, and without people or another company to work with you, you might end up closing Future Industries.” Rarity told her.
But Asami was feeling upbeat, or feeling worried in the slightest. “Don't worry. I'm going to the South Pole to meet with someone who can help us put Future Industries back on top.“ She assured them, feeling confident in her plan to keep it going as she walks away from them.
Both Rainbow Dash and Rarity were worried of her overconfidence and looked to each other. “Should we tell Sonya about this?” Rarity asked her.
“If anything, it would be wise to do so.” Rainbow Dash replied to her.
“You’ve grown wise Rainbow Dash.” Smoke approached with Sub-Zero as he crossed his arms. “Despite all the fortune her family has, not even that would be enough to undo the damage Hiroshi had caused.” He told her.
“More or less, clear her family name.” Sub-Zero interjected.
“That’s true, and we’re doing everything we can to have people look passed that.” Rarity explained.
“Sometimes Rarity, you just need to rely on faith.” Sub-Zero said to her as she formed a smile on her face, and they walked together.
Earthrealm, Wu Shi Academy
Meanwhile at the Wu Shi Academy, four tiny figures racing down a flight of stairs in the distance. All on air scooters, Ikki is the first to come into view, with Korra trailing close behind her, followed by Jinora and Meelo. They take a turn, heading toward the buildings. Meanwhile Pema is walking, holding Rohan and some groceries she got from the Chinese food market to try some of Earthrealm food and bring some home with her. The four youngsters suddenly zoom past her, nearly knocking her over. Startled, she throws the vegetables in the air, as she spins in between the racers. When they are gone, she manages to catch the food again, and stares after the foursome in surprise. “Goodness, three airbender children were enough, but four?!” She exclaimed as she heard laughter and saw Bo’ Rai Cho.
“They’re children Pema, let them have their fun till they mature.” He told her.
“That’s all well and good Master Bo’ Rai Cho, but with Rohan now being in our lives, they could at least be a little more careful.” She replied to him.
But Bo’ Rai Cho chuckled as he walked up, placing a hand on her shoulder. “I understand, in fact Liu Kang and Kung Lao were just the same at that age, full of energy, and willingness to fight.” He told her as he chuckled, making her smirk and roll her eyes as she looked out.
Meanwhile, the racers as the swiftly turn around the airbending training gates; some of the panels start spinning as they pass by. The foursome jumps off the platform, while Korra and Ikki, the latter still in the lead, confidently smiling in challenge toward the Avatar. Korra, as she starts to focus. Her eyes begin to glow when she enters the Avatar State, using the extra power to pull ahead of a surprised Ikki. Korra speeds toward the arena, and is flagged the winner. Korra on ground level as she comes to a stop and leaps off her air scooter, remaining on her haunches as she landed on the arena. Meanwhile with Bumi, who is coughing due to the thrown up dust, as an angry-looking Ikki zooms past, followed by her sister and brother. “The Avatar is the winner!” He announced.
Korra as she erects herself, her eyes ceasing to glow as she exits the Avatar State; she turns to her right, her hands propped on her hips, and smugly towers over a raging Ikki. “No fair! You can't go into the Avatar State to win!” She complained as Korra sticks her tongue out at Ikki, blowing a raspberry.
Tenzin approaches with Raiden, Twilight and Liu Kang upon hearing it. “You did what!?” He asked in surprise as he walked passed Bumi. “The Avatar State is not to be used as a booster rocket! You are toying with a dangerous power that you obviously do not appreciate!” He exclaimed to her.
“It's the Avatar State and I'm the Avatar. Who appreciates it more than me?” Korra asked him.
“Clearly you need more training to grasp the depths of your spiritual connections, not to mention that you're still a long way from mastering airbending.” Tenzin pointed out.
But Korra laughed at hearing it. “I have mastered airbending!” She argued as she took the moment to demonstrate and emphasizes her statement by directing several air blasts at the nearby trees, sending leaves floating. “Punch punch punch!” She finished her demonstration and turned to Tenzin as she gestured to it. “See? Mastered.” She said to him.
“Looks pretty good to me.” Bumi commented on her airbending, earning a sigh from Tenzin.
“Is it too late for you to unretire from the United Forces?” Tenzin asked as he turned to him.
“The paperwork's gone through, little brother. From now on, it's 24/7 Bumi time!” Bumi told him as he pinched his brothers cheek, but Tenzin was annoyed as he got him to let go.
Meanwhile Raiden approached Korra with Liu and Twilight. “Korra, you've mastered Korra style airbending, now you need to master real airbending. Hopefully your visit to all the air temples will give you the inspiration you need to look more deeply into your studies.“ He said to her as he showed a map to one of the Air Temples in her realm.
Jinora approached feeling eager to learn about her grandfather. “Can we see where Grandpa Aang was born?” She asked as Meelo popped up.
“How many lemurs can I have?” He asked.
“I wanna get tattoos! But instead of arrows, I want lightning bolts!” Ikki said to them.
But Jinora gave her a look like “Seriously?” on her face, to the point she had to tell her. “You can't get lightning bolts. That doesn't make any sense.” She told her.
“You don't make any sense!” Ikki shouted angrily.
“Fight, fight, fight!” Meelo chanted in excitement as Ikki and Jinora as they press their foreheads against each other as they growl and glare at one another.
But Tenzin quickly stepped forward to separate his two daughters and pulled them away from each other. “No one's fighting! We're going to have a wonderful time!” He told them as he let out a sigh. “Now that the president is in office and I'm not needed on the council, I can finally relax with my family and give Korra the attention she needs.” He pointed out.
“Great, more attention.” Korra said as she heard laughter from Bumi.
“Hah! Relax ... I'd pay money to see that. Maybe I'll tag along just to see "Vacation Tenzin".” He teased his brother.
But Tenzin was less amused of the way his brother was treating him. “You're not invited.” He told him.
Meanwhile Korra looked to Liu and walked to him. “Will Kitana and her mother be joining us…?” She asked him.
“Last I checked, Kitana managed to convince Sindel into joining us.” He informed her.
“Join you? For what?” Ikki asked them curiously.
Korra chuckled and looked to the airbender children. “Before we go on your dad's study trip, we're gonna have some real fun in my home town at the Glacier Spirits Festival. They've got rides, games, and all kinds of fried food on sticks.” She told them as they got excited and cheered.
Twilight chuckled at seeing their smiling faces. “I’m sure the others are gonna enjoy it.” She said as the kids cheer and circle around Tenzin, who makes a defeated and somewhat frustrated face.
“We’ll see when we return to her realm… this will certainly be something worth experiencing.” Sunset told her as she walked up with Kung Lao.
“Besides, we’ve been needing a vacation for quite some time.” Kung Lao pointed out to them.
Soon after mentioning it, Chi pops up in a skin tight bikini, a skirt, and a straw hat, sipping a cool drink. “So, when do we leave?” She asked him, earning amused chuckles from everyone, knowing she will be in for a big surprise, big time.
Meanwhile, Tenzin clenches his eyes shut for a moment and frowns, while Bumi puts an arm around his shoulder. “Yep. There's Vacation Tenzin. And you can't stop me from going to the festival, Mom already invited me.” He pointed it out to his brother, much to Tenzin’s dismay. Tenzin's eyes widen slightly for a moment before narrowing in frustration, knowing there was no way out of it, even if he asked Raiden for help.
Liu walked up to Korra and touched her shoulder. “I’m sure things will be great… but you have to remember, Shinnok will be up to something while we’re on vacation.” He told her.
“Right… right, my realms Jinsei… but we searched every inch of my realm, we don’t know where to look.” Korra told him.
“We’ll find it.” He responded and looked out. “Somehow…”
Four Nations
Once returning to the Four Nations, everyone caught each other up on events that took place, while Mako and Korra were spending time with each other. “So I walk up and say: "Looks like you had some car trouble. Good thing the police are here."” He told her of his day on the job.
Korra chuckled at hearing it and glanced to him. “Did you write that beforehand?” She asked him.
“Yeah! I had a few others.” Mako told her as he pulled out a list of the ones he came up with. “Let's see, uh ... "Looks like you guys should put more 'try' in triad", huh? Or, "when you get to jail, tell 'em Mako sent ya".“ He pointed to himself.
“Ooh, I like that one.” Korra said to him.
“Okay, I'll use that next time. Beifong says if I keep it up, I could make detective soon.” Mako told her.
Flash and Twilight sat across from them with the others as Flash crossed his arms. “And what does Stryker say?” He asked him.
Hearing it, Mako looks down knowing Stryker got on his case for it. “He said that I… am too irresponsible for the job. That I might not be able to cut it in the police force. Hell, even Kabal agreed with him.” He sighed as he leaned against the wall. “Maybe they’re right, maybe I’m just not cut out to be a detective.” He admitted.
“There’s always the White Lotus Society… true, it’s meant for those with a virtuous heart. But I’m sure they’ll make an exception for you.” Fluttershy said to him.
“Yeah, Liu offered me a chance to join, but I need to think it over.” Mako replied to her.
“Cool! And trust me, that sounds so fun. But if you think trying to make a hard decision is bad, all I do is train all day. It's like Tenzin's totally forgotten how me and Liu beat Amon.” Korra boasted.
Mako looked to her knowing she was mostly referring to herself. “Tenzin's just trying to help you become the best Avatar you can be.” He told her.
“He’s right Korra, and being a good Avatar takes time.” Twilight told her, only to see her pull her arms away from Mako.
“Of course you two would take his side!” Korra said to them.
“We’re not taking his side, we’re just ...” Mako tried to find the words, but Korra stood up.
“I'm gonna take a walk.” She said to him and stormed off.
Rainbow let out a exhale and shook her head looking to Mako. “Way to go, Mako.” She said to him.
“Why is it so much easier to bust triads than it is to get through one conversation with my girlfriend?” Mako asked himself.
“You really need to be more careful with what you say, darling… Kuai and I worked through our relationship well, I’m sure that you two will as well.” Rarity said to him.
“Same for me and Flash, and we were happy to finally be together.” Twilight said as Flash smiled and wrapped his arm around her.
“But how can I help Korra without her exploding in my face?” He asked them.
It was at that moment that Celestia appeared before them. “Sometimes relationships have rocky starts, Mako… when I first met Raiden, it was around the time I… banished my sister.” She told him as she faintly heard Luna sneezing on the other side of the ship. “But as time went by, Raiden and I saw each other more often, and our bond grew ever stronger. Perhaps you being a cop really isn’t your destined path… but it’s not for me to decide… it is for you to decide.” She pointed it out to him as she placed a finger over his chest, above his heart. “So follow what you believe is right… in here.” She said to him.
Mako felt it and looked to her, feeling the wisdom of her words echoing in his mind, he knew he would never do anything to hurt Korra, he just wanted to be there for her. Meanwhile with Korra, she stood alone as she took the time she needed to calm down… she didn’t mean to burst out like that. In fact, she didn’t know why she did. It wasn’t like her to go off like that to her boyfriend. She began to feel that something was wrong, but she soon felt that she was being watched as she sharply turned around, forming an ice blade from water. “Who’s there?!” She demanded to know, only to see Lee and Reina step out with their hands up, causing her to panic as she made the blade vanish. “Sorry, I thought that you two were…”
“Someone else?” Lee asked her, seeing her nod in response. “It’s okay, we get that a lot.” He assured her.
Reina looked at Korra, seeing her for how she was before their dark future, but she snapped out of it and walked up. “We… saw your outburst with Mako… I know you didn’t mean to snap off at him.” She said to her.
“I know… I don’t know what made me go off like that.” Korra responded.
Lee’s eyes glowed a bit, and spotted a faint trail of dark matter trailing from her. “Hold still…” He told her as h approached and turned her around, pulling out one of his blades that looked much like Kitana’s war fans, slashing at the dark stream that was flowing to Korra, making it disappear.
Korra gasped as she felt some weight lifted from her shoulders, not aware of what Lee did as she looked to him. “Wow, what did you do?” She asked him.
“Oh nothing, just a little chi technique I learned from my master.” He responded.
Korra smiled and playfully punched his shoulder. “Thanks, I owe ya one… ummm… I never got your names.” She told them.
Lee bowed to her respectfully. “My name is Lee…” He stands as he gestures to Reina. “This is Reina, we’re headed to the South Pole for a vacation. Given a special event is taking place.” He told her.
“Yes, we thought it would be nice to take some time away from the city.” Reina said to her, feeling a knot in her stomach from speaking to Korra as she tried to hide it.
“Well, I’m sure you both will have a great time while you’re at the South Pole. Trust me, it will be the best experience you will ever have.” Korra said to them.
A smirk formed across Lee’s face as he crossed his arms. “We don’t doubt it.” He responded to her.
“Anyway, I better get to back to Mako and apologize, I just wish I knew what came over me when I yelled at him.” She said to them and looked to them. “Anyways, it was nice meeting you guys.” She said to them and ran off to find Mako.
“Likewise, Avatar Korra…” Lee watched her go and put the blade away as he looked towards Reina. “You all right…?” He asked her noticing the tears.
Her tears glistening in her eyes as she wiped them away trying to dry them. “That was her Lee… that was… my mother.” She told him as he approached her and held her in his arms. “In the future she’s a revenant… but here…? She’s so young… young enough to be my sister.” She said to him as her tears fell.
“I know… but once we prevent what Shinnok is planning, that future will change.” Lee said to her as he held her close. “I promise, we won’t let our friends down.” He told her as he shut his eyes, but reopened them in remembering the dark matter. “Shinnok is trying to destroy the bond that they share… if anything were to happen to either of them…” He hesitated to say it.
But Reina knew exactly what he was going to say. “We won’t let that happen… just like you said, we have to prevent Shinnok from succeeding in his mission.” She said to him.
“It won’t be easy, the darkness is affecting the spirits as we speak, and anyone who has a dark heart. And we know who heart is pure evil.” Lee said to her as she nodded, and the two young lovers looked out, knowing their mission will be difficult, especially while being around their parents.
Southern Water Tribe
Upon reaching the Southern Water Tribe, the ship made its way towards the docks as everyone was excited to see it. Pinkie meanwhile could not contain her excitement as she tried to jump off the ship, only to get grabbed by Sonya and Nightwolf. “Easy Pinkie, we understand your excitement, but you really wanna jump into freezing cold water?” Sonya asked her as she gestured to it.
“Even I must question your judgement, Pinkie… because if it’s a watery grave you want, be our guest.” Nightwolf said to her.
Pinkie thought about it for a moment, and chuckled nervously as she backed away. “Sorry, I can wait.” She told them.
“Understatement of the year.” Sonya muttered as Johnny walked up behind her.
“Aw, come on… we’ve been needing this for a while, you especially since you’ve been busting your ass lately.” He told her.
But Sonya had other ideas. “Sorry Johnny, but Rainbow Dash and Rarity told me about Asami’s struggle with Future Industries, and I said I’d help if this deal with this anonymous supporter doesn’t work out.” He told her.
“Boy, Asami must be desperate.” Johnny said.
“More than you believe.” Sub-Zero interjected as he looked out.
Upon arriving at the docks, the Airbending children eagerly raced to greet their grandmother Katara, and their Aunt Kya. “Gran Gran!” They rushed up to her and hugged her.
She smiled and returned the gesture as she wrapped her arms around them. “Oh ... you've all gotten so big.” She said to them.
Jinora soon looked towards her aunt and smiled at her. “We missed you, Aunt Kya.” She said to her.
“Ohh, I missed you, too. Your father doesn't bring you to visit nearly enough. He's probably scared I'll beat him up” She lightly punches Tenzin's arm playfully. “Like when we were kids.” She added.
But Tenzin was less amused. “I'm not scared of you ...” He stated only to rub his arm from the punch. “Anymore.”
Raiden approached Katara and bowed to her. “It’s good to see you again Katara.” He greeted her.
“How’s your daughter Lord Raiden?” She asked him as Celestia approached with Solar.
“As you can see, she is quite healthy.” She told her as Solar cooed at seeing Katara, who smiled and took her little hand. “She really took a liking to you when she first saw you.”
Katara giggled softly as she smiled at little Solar. “And I have grown quite fond of her myself, she is much like her mother, but I can also feel some of her father within her.” She told Celestia as she looked to her. “I know for certain you both will be good parents.” She told them.
Meanwhile, Korra was with her parents and the rest of the group, hugging her father, Tonraq as she let go and gestured to Mako. “You remember Mako.” She told him as Mako offered him his hand.
“Sir.” Mako spoke to him, feeling nervous around him, only to get a nudge from Twilight. “Ow, hey…!”
“Be more confident, don’t let him intimidate you.” She said to him.
Mako looked to him and exhaled, bowing his head to him. “It is good to see you again sir.” He said to him.
Tonraq meanwhile had his arms folded. “I hope you're not getting my daughter into anymore trouble up in the city.” He said to him as Mako began to panic.
“Uh ... No ... uh ... I ... no.” Mako tried to remain calm, but it was harder than it looked. So he looked to Liu Kang who looked to him in return. He gestures him to remain calm, and move his lips without speaking to say “breathe…”. Mako looked at him but inhales and exhales to calm his nerves and look to Tonraq. “Rest assured, I would never do anything to endanger your daughter, sir. She means a lot to me, as I mean a lot to her.” He told him staying calm.
Tonraq was impressed how well he managed to get his composure back so quickly. “I see, despite your earlier reaction, you were as nervous as a penguin.” He told him.
“Knock it off, Dad.” Korra said to him.
“Yeah, Mako may be bit of a show off, but he’s got a good heart.” Rainbow said to him.
“Indeed, though he has much on his shoulders, his future has yet to be decided.” Sub-Zero stated to Tonraq.
“I understand, thank you for assuring me Grandmaster Sub-Zero. It is good that you, and the rest of the Earthrealm defenders have come to join this great time in our tribes history.” He said to him.
“The honor is ours, sir…” Jade approached and bowed to him. “We look forward to seeing the events this evening.” She told him.
Senna walked up to her. “Thank you Jade, but tell me, will Kotal Kahn be joining us?” She asked her.
“I’m afraid his duties lie in Outworld, in trying to stop a Civil War that Reiko started.” Kitana explained.
That was until a portal opened up beside them and they saw Kotal walk through with Shang Tsung and Chrysalis beside him. He walked to Jade and smiled at her, placing a hand on her shoulder that caused her to smile and touch his hand. “I thought you couldn’t make it…?” She said to him.
“I changed my plans… Legion and the others are keeping an eye on Outworld while we’re away.” Kotal explained to her.
Tonraq approached and bowed to him. “Kotal Kahn, it is nice of you to join us on this occasion.” He said to him.
“The honor is mine, Chief Tonraq… now… where is your daughter?” Kotal asked.
“Present.” Korra walked up and smiled. “It’s good to see you Kotal.” She said to him.
“The feeling is mutual, Avatar Korra… I trust you have been keeping up with your skills?” He asked her.
That is when Pinkie jumped up and wrapped her arm around Korra. “Sure has, and she’s been trying to master her version of airbending.” She explained.
“Pinkie!” Everyone yelled at her.
“What?!” She replied to them.
Kotal chuckled in amusement and looked to Korra. “It will take some time to get used to, but I know this for certain… you will be a great Avatar, like your predecessor before you.” He told her as Korra smiled in response, but suddenly the people began to gather around as Bolin looked around at them.
“Wow! Look at all these people that came out to greet us.” He stated.
Which only made Korra point out the obvious. “Uh, no. They came to greet them.” She pointed out to a large and ornate Water Tribe ship that approaches across the water. It was a Northern Water Tribe ship that was docking on the other side of the pier.
The crowd claps and cheers as Korra along with everyone else watched as the royal family began to disembark from their ship. Much to Tonraq’s disappointment, for it gained Shang Tsung attention as he walked up. “I’m detecting some issues… something we should know about?” He asked him.
“Nothing really, Shang Tsung… but it is merely the great chief of the Northern Water Tribe comes to grace us with his-“ Senna gave him a look before he could continue, causing him to clear his throat. “Presence. Hooray.” He faked it.
Chrysalis chuckled in amusement from seeing it. “Denial, and resentment… why am I not surprised?” She wondered.
“Now, now, Chrysalis, I’m sure he has his reasons.” Rarity stated.
Meanwhile, Senna touched her husbands arm to reassure him. “Just relaxTonraq, he'll be gone soon enough.” She told him as Tonraq sighed with a growl.
Liu and Kitana looked to each other sending a major gap between Tonraq and the visitor coming ashore. As the ship reached the pier, Unalaq and his children, Desna and Eska, they depart the ship walking down the plank to the pier, accompanied by guards. Bolin took notice of Eska and Desna, growing a keen interest. “Whoa! Who are the lovely ladies?“ He asked as he put on a flirtatious face.
Korra began to chuckle in amusement, Mako started to see why and felt the same amusement. “That's Eska, and Desna, the chief’s children. Desna is a guy.” She told him.
Bolin's eyes widen in surprise, as he tired to hide how embarrassed he was. “Oh, no, sure, I knew that.” He chuckled nervously only to look at them trying to figure out which one was Desna. “And which one is Desna?” He asked.
Meanwhile, Johnny was struggling to keep it in, but he bursted out laughing as he held his gut. “Oh man, you should see the look on your face Bo, you totally look like you got sucker punched in the-“ Before he could continue his sentence however, Sonya managed to kick him in the balls to shut him up as he screamed from it and hit the ground. “Okay, okay I had that coming!” He groaned from the pain he was feeling.
“Sure did.” Jax commented and looked to the twins. “But I can’t help but feel a little creeped out by them.” He said to them.
Meanwhile, Unalaq approached Korra and bowed to her. “Good to see you again, Avatar Korra.” He said to her.
“Good to see you too.” Korra replied as she bowed.
Unalaq’s attention turned towards Liu Kang and Raiden. “Liu Kang, Lord Raiden, how nice to finally meet you in person.” He told them.
“It is an honor to meet you Chief Unalaq.” Liu Kang said to him.
“Wish I could say the same for someone else.” Raiden said to him and gestured towards Tonraq.
The two brothers looked towards one another, neither one happy to see the other. “Tonraq.” Unalaq said coldly.
“Brother.” Tonraq replied in the same tone.
Everyone looked to each other worriedly knowing that tensions were high between them, Raiden himself knew there was a strong detachment between the two brothers, but he wasn’t around when it happened, given the tournament that Aang and his team attended years before Korra’s time had come. Twilight soon broke the silence and walked up. “Chief Unalaq, I trust you will be enjoying your stay here for the Glacier Spirits Festival?”
“I could Princess Twilight, though to be quite honest.” Unalaq looked to his brother and the rest of the southerners. “It's a shame the Southerners have abandoned all connections to the spirits.” He told them, earning surprised looks from Twiliht and Korra.
“I've always loved the Glacier Spirits Festival. It's fun.” She told him as she wore a smile on her face.
But Liu Kang looked to Unalaq, noticing he did not share that sentiment. “This festival used to be a solemn time of fasting and meditation. Now it's just a chance to watch some rube try to stick an entire arctic hen in his mouth.” He gestures to Bolin who has stuffed a whole arctic hen inside his mouth and is attempting to swallow it. Upon hearing them, he widens his eyes, turns to face the group and shrugs.
“What? Oh, it's so good.” He said in delight only for Johnny to facepalm himself from hearing it.
But Korra closed her eyes and shakes her head in amusement, while Tonraq spoke up to his brother. “Traditions change. It's not the end of the world.” He told him.
“Tell that to the sailors who are being attacked by angry spirits in southern waters.” Unalaq informed him as everyone looked to him in surprise of this news. “Some traditions have purpose.” He told Tonraq with a frown on his face.
Korra was equally surprised by this and walked up. “Wait, spirits are attacking ships?” She asked them.
“Why would they do that?” Kitana asked them curiously.
“I'm surprised the Avatar doesn't know about that. Apparently you haven't been given all of the information you need. It would be my honor to instruct you in the spiritual ways of the Water Tribe.” Unalaq said to her.
“I wouldn't mind learning about fighting spirits.” She responded as she soon glanced towards Tenzin. “Airbending is getting pretty boring.” She admitted.
“Korra, that is not for you to decide.” Raiden said to her.
“Lord Raiden’s right, Tenzin is Korra's instructor. He can give her all the training she needs.“ Tonraq said to his brother.
But Unalaq, was far from convinced. “So you've said.” He said to him.
Finally taking the opportunity to step in, Johnny got between the brothers to keep them from escalating hints further. “Whoa guys, just chilax! This is supposed to be a special event for everyone, so let’s not ruin it with a stupid argument, all right?” He asked them.
Unalaq looked at him, but nodded in agreement. “Seems you are not as big a fool as I have heard.” He said to him.
“Gee, thanks, I get that a lo-“ It soon hit Johnny like a ton of bricks that he realized what he meant. “Hold on, who said I was a fool?!” He asked him.
“Pretty much anyone who you pissed off.” Applejack pointed out.
“And any woman you probably dated before Sonya?” Rainbow Dash pointed out with a smirk, leaving Johnny in a state of bewilderment, that he scowled at them for it. But they immediately laughed, knowing that he literally fell into their joke, hook, line and sinker.
Sonya smiled and nudged his arm. “Come on, we better meet up with Asami, she requested we join her.” She told him and walked with him, Jax, Pinkie and Applejack. But Johnny scowled at Unalaq for what he said, mentally deciding he did not like him, not one bit.
Neither did a certain couple from on the boat as they watched Unalaq with much hatred. Lee most of all, he glared at Unalaq as he reached behind him and tripped on of his mother’s blades. But Reina quickly stopped him. “Lee, don’t…!” She said to him.
“Reina, he murdered our parents and had them turned into revenants, you honestly expect me to sit by and do nothing?” He asked her.
“I want him dead just as much as you do… but think of our parents. Do you want them to see us as murderers?” She asked him as Lee gave it some thought. He knew that if they killed Unalaq right in front of them, they would be seen as criminals. He sighed and removed his hand from his blade, standing down. “Don’t worry Lee… he will be exposed for the fraud that he is, it’s only a matter of time.” She said to him.
(~)
Meanwhile, Asami awaited for the others to arrive as Bolin was by her side while a white ship approached. “They should be here.” She said anxiously.
“Don’t worry, if Sonya said they’d be here, they’ll be here.” Bolin assured her as he petted Pabu. “Ain’t that right Pabu?” He asked him as he nuzzled his face.
Just at that instant, Sonya had arrived with the others of SF, Kipo in tow. “Okay, here we are. Now would you mind telling us what this is about?” Sonya asked her.
“And please tell us this is gonna be worth the trouble, cause we need to join Korra and the others in the Great Hand.” Kipo pointed out to them.
“I'm glad you came with me to this meeting. Varrick is one of the richest men in the world, and he controls the entire global shipping business. So, you guys are my assistants. Just stand there and don't say anything.” Asami told them.
“No problem, Pabu and I are natural assistants.” Bolin said to her.
But Jax wasn’t convinced as he crossed his arms. “Yeah, naturals…” He muttered and looked seeing Varriks boat reaching port.
Even Johnny was amazed by it. “Man, this is nice! It’s better than my place in Malibu!” He pointed out.
“I got to get into this whole business thing.” Bolin exclaimed.
But Applejack sighed and shook her head. “Boys.” She muttered.
“Right?” Pinkie giggled as they walked towards the yacht.
Once inside, Varrick was sitting on a cushion, his eyes closed and his fingers pressed against his head in concentration with a look of extreme focus on his face while Zhu Li sits beside him, writing on a notepad. He is surrounded by a number of other people who are all looking at him intently. Jax watched him, trying to figure out what he is doing. “Either this guy is trying to meditate, or he looks like he’s about to take a dump on his own yacht.” He pointed out.
“I’d pay a hundred to see that.” Sonya said to him as she and Jax fist bump each other.
“Shh!” Asami shushed them. “He’s trying to focus.” She told them and looked along side Bolin. Bolin watched as he was standing close to Asami, till all of a sudden he caught a whiff of her perfume.
He sniffed quietly as he could, and his face instantly turned red. “Wow… that is strong perfume.” He pointed out.
“Thanks, it’s one of my-“ Asami quickly took notice and looked to him with a blush. “Were you sniffing me?!” She asked him.
Bolin panicked from her reaction. “No! No, I didn’t mean to, it just… smelled really nice, that’s all.” He said to her feeling bashful as well as ashamed.
Asami lost her anger and looked at him as her face turned a bit red. “O-Oh… um, thanks.” She said to him as she combed her fingers through her hair.
“N-No problem.” Bolin looked away trying to hide his red face. But Johnny and Sonya took notice and looked to each other, grins began to form across their faces knowing exactly what it is.
Till suddenly. “Did ya see that?” Varrick got everyone’s attention and he looked to them. “Levitation!” He cried out and laughed about it. “I was a foot off the ground! Is that incredible or what?“ He asked them as the guests applauded and murmured amongst themselves.
Varrick stands, his cloak falling from his shoulders as he does so, and bows. Cut to a side shot of Bolin and Asami. Asami claps with a polite smile as Bolin scratches the back of his head. “You looked like… you were just sitting on a pillow.“ He pointed out with his arms spread.
“No shit Sherlock.” Jax said to him.
“Totally sitting.” Kipo said with her arms crossed.
It was at that moment a shocked Asami gasped and puts her head in her hands in embarrassment. The stunned audience gasped and looked at Bolin, while guests turned and glared at him. Even a shocked Varrick looks up at Bolin as well. The inventor stands up and walks over, stopping in front of Bolin, while putting his hands on his hips and intimidatingly gazing at him. “Are you saying I wasn't levitating?” He asked him.
Bolin gulped and glanced towards Johnny and a Pinkie. “Johnny, Pinkie, help me out here.” He begged them.
“Sorry Boly, you’re on your own.” Pinkie said to him.
“We’re staying out of it.” Johnny stated with his arms crossed.
“Come on, out with it boy.” Varrick said impatiently.
Bolin felt like he was looking Death in the face, and gulped knowing it’s going to hurt him more than it will hurt Varrick. “Uh… no?” He said to him.
The inventor looked at him for a moment in silence, until finally he turned towards the audience. “Well, why didn't anyone tell me? Now I look like an idiot!” He said as he pointed towards a man in red. “Swami, you're fired!” He said to him as Swami glares at Bolin before bowing his head and retreating up the steps behind Varrick.
“Wow, this guys a few bullets short to a full clip.” Applejack muttered.
“Amen to that AJ.” Jax replied to her.
“I like you, kid, you're a real straight shooter, just like me.” Varrick said to Bolin and looked to Asami. “Miss Sato, he's with you?” He asked her as she nodded her head to him. “Brought your tiger shark with ya to do business, huh? Along with famous actor Johnny Cage, party animal Pinkie Pie, and two Special Forces agents. Now that's moxie! Get over here and pop a squat. Zhu Li, get some tea for my guests!” He demanded.
“So you know about us… wonder how fast the word about us spread?” Jax wondered.
“You kidding?! The entire world knows about you guys. Even when Avatar Korra and Liu Kang defeated Amon!” Varrick said to them.
“Hey! Twilight was there too pal.” Pinkie said to him.
“Wow, totally forgot.” Varrick admitted and looked towards Jax’s arms. “And might I say my masculine friend, those bionics are quite impressive. How much can I get for them?” He asked him.
“They’re not for sale.” Jax replied.
“Come on, double or nothing, those arms have got to be worth something.” Varrick persisted.
Only to get grabbed by Jax and raised up into the air as Jax had his right hand glow bright purple. “Keep that up, and the only thing of value would be your life.” He said to him as a warning.
“Okay, okay! Sorry!” Varrick panicked as he got set down. “But that’s quite some strength you got, you’d make an excellent bodyguard.” He told him.
Asami soon approached and pulled Varrick away from him. “Anyways, Varrick. Thank you for meeting with me. As you know, Future Industries is looking for a partner to handle our shipping.” She said to him.
“Sure! But first you gotta check out my new venture! Moving pictures! Zhu Li, do the thing!” He said to her as she was in the process of giving Bolin and Johnny tea. She soon hands the tray to an earthbender and walked over starting the projector. “You're gonna love this!” Varrick insisted to them as they watched an Ostrich Horse appear on screen. Johnny knew where this was going, but it certainly impressed Bolin as he was mesmerized by it. “Mind-blowing, right?” He asked them.
“Yeah.” Bolin replied feeling awestruck.
“Now forget that! That's the past! Shut it off, Zhu Li!” Varrick ordered as his assistant shut the projector off. “Imagine watching this!” He gestured to his left. “Ginger, come over here and do your poses.” He requested her as Bolin looked to where she’ll be, only to gasp in amazement as a beautiful red head to step out in a white fur coat, and walk towards them.
She drops her shawl and strikes a number of poses, as lights and a stylized background flash behind her, while Johnny watches and looks towards Bolin, who was completely wide eyed and drooling, causing him to facepalm himself, knowing exactly where this was going. “Oh boy, here we go.” He muttered.
Varrick soon got in the way of Bolin’s vision, but Bolin tried to look around him to see Ginger.. “Spectacular! And, we tell a story; there's romance, action, some funny animal stuff for the kids. You know, whatever! Thanks, Ginger, go rest your gams.” He said to her as he sat beside Bolin and Asami. “How about that tiger shark? We're gonna do big business with these movers as I call them.“ He told him.
“Where I’m from, we call them movies.” Johnny told him.
“Whatever.” Varrick replied.
Asami was somewhat impressed, but she focused on the main topic. “Okay ... but I'm just concentrating on getting Future Industries back on track. If we could hammer out a deal-“
But Varrick quickly interrupts her by holding a finger in front of her face. “Stop! Look me in the eye.” He told her as he presses his head to Asami’s, who is initially unsure of what to do, but quickly adopts a determined look on her face. After several seconds of staring, Varrick suddenly breaks away and points his finger at the ceiling, as Asami falls back from her cushion. “We got a deal!” He shouted.
Sonya and Jax were immediately surprised by this. “That was surprisingly easy.” She muttered.
“Too easy if you ask me.” He replied to her.
“We'll hammer out the details at the royal feast tonight.” Varrick told Asami and turned to the audience. “Now, who wants a rocket boat ride?” he asked them as his guests exclaim their approval before leaving the room.
Bolin was surprised from what happened and looked to Asami. “Is that how business usually goes?” He wondered only to get hugged by Asami, causing him to blush in surprise.
She sphere him happily and looked to him. “You are a natural assistant!” She said to him only to realize she still held him in her arms, blushing only to let go and pull away from him. “Um, I mean, you did good back there.” She told him.
“Uh, yeah… thanks.” He replied to her rubbing his head.
“I don’t know guys, that just seemed way too easy.” Applejack said to them as she walked up. “He seemed to rush that meeting rather fast, don’t you think…?” She asked them.
“I’m with AJ on this, I mean I’m all for partying, but I know good business when I see it.” Pinkie pointed out.
“Pinkie’s right on that… this guy reminds me of my friend Jamack, only he isn’t a frog.” Kipo pointed out but shook her head. “Look, the point is, we can’t be sure he’ll be very helpful.” She said to Asami.
“Asami, I don’t like this… don’t get me wrong, Varrick seems like a nice guy, but he’s got creepy written all over him.” Sonya said to her.
“Sonya’s right Asami, if my experience working in the film industry has taught me one thing, there are always strings attached. That’s why I fired my agent, because of what happened when he sent me to that weirdo death island during the Mortal Kombat tournament.” Johnny pointed out.
“Guys, trust me, this is a good move on my part. So don’t worry, I know what I’m doing.” Asami said to them and walked away to join the party.
They watched her go while Jax was crossing his arms. “Yeah, I find that hard to believe.” He stated as everyone nodded their heads in agreement.
Great Hall
At an enormous hall made out of ice in which a large feast is going on. Korra, her parents, the Earthrealm defenders, the Main Six, Unalaq, and his children are sat at the head table. Some were enjoying themselves, minus a few who were either not interested, glum, unless you’re a pair of twins, just down right creepy. “This is a wonderful feast in your honor, Uncle.” Korra said to him.
“This is nothing. When this festival was founded, the tribal elders would commune with the spirits. People would watch the brilliant displays of light as spirits danced in the sky.” Unalaq explained to her.
“Wow, I've never seen that.” She replied.
“And that is a shame, since the Avatar is the bridge between the material world and the spirits. That is why I want so badly to teach you. To help you fulfill your destiny.” Unalaq offered.
But Tonraq needed to make it clear to his brother, one way or another. “I thought I had made it clear that Tenzin is teaching her.” He said to him sternly.
“Now Chief Tonraq , let’s not lose our heads here.” Twilight said to him. “I mean, I for one would like to see some spirit magic.” She pointed out.
“Quite the knowledgeable one, aren’t you Princess? But yes, what I say as of now is true. Every Avatar before you traveled the world to learn. It was Tenzin and your father who kept you secluded at the South Pole.” Unalaq mentioned.
Liu was surprised and looked towards Tonraq. “I thought Aang ordered the White Lotus to keep her down here?” He said to him.
“We all did what we thought was best for her.” Tonraq said to him and looked to Korra who crossed her arms.
“Who I train with should be my decision, Dad, not yours or Tenzin's.” She said to him.
Kitana touched her shoulder. “Korra, calm down… I’m sure he had a good reason for it.” She said to her.
“And it better be a good one.” Korra muttered under her breath.
Kung Lao watched them and started feeling a sense of unease between them and looked to Sunset. “Something isn’t right.” He said to her.
“I hear ya… there must be something that either brother is not telling us.” She said to him.
Chi watched them and scowled mostly towards Unalaq, for she sensed something very off about him, making her cross her arms. “I don’t know about you guys, but I can’t seem to trust Unalaq as far as I can throw him.” She said to them.
“Why’s that sister?” Lao asked her.
“I can sense things others can’t, and this guy has a dark aura all around him. Should I keep this to myself? Or ask him straight up?” She asked them.
Lao and Sunset looked to each other wondering if she might be right, and looked to her to respond. “For now, just keep it to yourself. We don’t want to ruin this festival, or make ourselves look bad in the process, all right?” Sunset asked her, earning a nod from Chi as they enjoyed the feast.
Meanwhile, where Tenzin, Bumi, Kya, and Katara are sat at a table, having overhead the conversation at the head table. Causing Bumi to rub it in his face for laughs. “Looks like someone's trying to take your place as the Avatar's stick-in-the-mud mentor.” He said to him.
“Bumi, don't pick on Tenzin. You know he's always been sensitive.” Kya said to him with a smirk.
“I'm not sensitive!” Tenzin said defensively, only for Bumi and Kya laugh as Kya pokes him, while Katara watches on holding Rohan, a serious look on her face. Tenzin glanced towards Raiden with a pleading look. “Lord Raiden, please… help me.” He said to him as Raiden held up his hand and summoned down lightning to transport Kya and Bumi away from him, and put them over at the table across from them, giving Tenzin a sigh of relief. “Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.” Raiden replied as he ate some Watertribe food.
But Tenzin looked to Korra, only to look down feeling defeated. “Lord Raiden, Princess Celestia… do you think I’m a bad teacher?” He asked them, earning a surprised look from Celestia as she held Solar Storm.
“Why do you ask Tenzin?” She asked him.
Sighing in depression. “Unalaq claims to be spiritually enlightened, that he understands the spirits more than anyone, even the Avatar. I can’t help but feel I’m not proving my worth as Korra’s teacher.” He told them.
Raiden looked to him and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. “Tenzin… you are the best teacher I’ve seen thus far, and whether Unalaq is what he says he is. You will always be a good teacher that Korra ever learned from.” He said to her, causing the airbender to smile and look towards Korra, only for it to fade as he felt he was getting distant from her.
Rainbow Dash tried some of the Watertribe food and sips them, enjoying the flavor as he looked to Sub-Zero. “Grandmaster, you got to try this!” She suggested.
“Oh I have… but food from the Lin Kuei is equal to this feast.” Sub-Zero replied.
Rarity giggled and patted his arm. “Come now darling, it doesn’t hurt to try new things every now and then.” She told him.
“She’s right Kuai, best not to argue with your future wife on the matter.” Smoke said to him as Trixie sat beside him.
“You know, speaking of families… if Korra is related to Chief Unalaq, wouldn’t that make her a Princess?” Rarity wondered.
“Yeah, imagine her for a second in the same dresses the creepy twins are in, and imagine how her life would have been.” Rainbow Dash pointed it out to her.
The female necromancer thought it through, imaging Korra in the same dress as Elsa, same makeup, same gloomy demeanor, which immediately caused her to shudder and shake her thoughts away. “On second thought, never mind!” She stated as Smoke and Trixie laughed together.
At the head table, Unalaq stood up in order to give a speech. Fluttershy took notice and nudged Scorpion. “Looks like Unalaq is going to give a speech.” She said to him.
“As your chief, it is my honor to speak at this festival, which was founded to bring our tribes together and restore the ancient balance between our world and that of the spirits. But I am saddened to see what it has become: a cheap carnival that celebrates greedy and trivial humans.” He gestures to Varrick who was using his plate as a mirror to pick something out of his teeth. “I feel the time is fast approaching when the North can no longer stand idly by while our Southern brothers slip into total spiritual decay. Angry spirits are already attacking ships in your waters. I only hope we are not too late to change course.” He said to them as he sat down.
Varrick immediately got up and presented himself to the crowd. “Chief Unalaq everybody, always great to have him in town. Now, let's have some fun with Wacky Wushu's Dancing Otter penguins!” He suggested as a man dressed in purple dances onto the stage, and bends a stream of water onto the platform. Three otter penguins slide along the water, before sliding back, stopping in front of Wushu. All four of them take a bow as the crowd cheers.
Scorpion looked towards Unalaq and narrowed his eyes sensing exactly what Chi felt. “Not quite the speech I was expecting… but there is something about what he said that has me on edge.” He said to Fluttershy.
“Should we tell Lord Raiden?” She asked him.
“No, not unless I’m absolutely certain.” Scorpion replied.
Meanwhile Flash looked to Twilight and smiled as he reached over and touched her hand. “Twilight… I hope the festival goes well for everyone, even for us.” He said to her.
“Despite the odd family dispute happening, you and me both.” She replied with a smile as she grasped his hand. But her attention soon noticed Lee and Reina who were in the crowd. “Hey… those two were on the boat when we arrived.” She pointed out to him.
Flash looked towards them, wondering who they were. “They a pair of fans?” He asked.
“I don’t know… but there is something familiar about them, I can’t put my finger on it.” Twilight said to him as she pondered about the couple from the future.

The festival was underway, and everyone was enjoying the festivities… Mako feeds Korra some cotton candy, which she greatly enjoys as her face looked almost cat-like before feeding some to Mako, much to Bolin's annoyance, Nile eating some balled food off a stick. Flash walked up with Twilight and nudged him. “Hey, come on bud, I’m sure you’ll find someone eventually.” He told him.
“Yeah? When?” Bolin asked him.
Twilight giggled and playfully punched his arm. “Just when you finally meet the right girl.” She told him.
“She’s right darling… it took months to finally get her and Flash together.” Rarity said to him as she approached with Sub-Zero. “As for me and Kuai here, it took fighting against the control of a vampire named Nitara to get us together. As rushed as it may seem, but we instantly connected.” She told him.
“Yeah, well I think my luck…” Bolin turns his head away and his eyes widen. Eska and Desna were in his sights, but his sights were more focused on Eska… who are standing beside each other alone, surveying the people walking past. A grin formed on his face as he adjusts his hair. “Is about to change… wish me luck, I’m making my move! He told them as he gave his food to Mako and made his way towards Eska… which ever one she was. (I mean seriously, having a twin is terrifying! I don’t have one myself, but I’m glad I don’t!)
Korra and Mako watched him head their way, Mako feeling somewhat confident in his brother. “Good luck.” He said as he watched him.
“Those two have always creeped me out. They smell like a grandma's attic.” Korra admitted and soon noticed Lee andReina nearby and smiled. “Hey! Lee, Reina! Come over here!” He requested them to join them, Lee looked to Reina seeing she is unsure, but she swallowed her fear and walked over to them with Lee. Korra walked to them with Mako, and shook Lee’s hand. “Lee, I want to say thanks… whatever you did really helped me apologize to Mako for what I said.” She said to him.
“It was nothing, really… I’m just glad you two made up for it.” Lee said to her and cleared his throat for her to introduce them.
Korra realized it and chuckled a bit nervously. “Sorry… Lee, Reina, these are Princess Twilight and Flash Sentry, and Rarity and Sub-Zero.” She introduced them and looked around. “I’m sure the others are around here somewhere.”
“Please, there’s no need to worry.” Reina assured her.
Sub-Zero meanwhile observed the two young warriors sensing something about them. “You both seem new around here… where did you come from?” He asked them.
“I was born in Edenia, Reina was born in the Southern Water Tribe.” Lee responded to him.
“Yes… I came from a small village, nothing too big or fancy like Republic City.” Reina pointed out.
“No problem darling, I’m sure living here must’ve been better than living in the city.” Rarity said to her.
The young woman let out a sigh from hearing it. “More than you can imagine.” She replied.
Mako chuckled but soon noticed Lee’s headband and realized that it looked exactly like Liu’s, causing him to look where Liu and Kitana were. He saw that Liu still wore his and looked back to Lee, seeing a strong resemblance between them. ”That headband… how did he get it?” he wondered.
“I have to ask, how did you two meet?” Korra asked them.
A chuckle came from Lee as he rubbed his head. “We uh… we knew each other since we were children, we pretty much grew up together. Our parents were close friends, once we reached our teen years, we started dating, much to her fathers dismay. He was so overprotective of her, he practically followed us everywhere.” He explained.
Mako broke his silence with a small laugh. “He must’ve been paranoid.” He said to him.
A soft chuckle came from Reina as she looked to her future parents. “Not as much as my mom… she was way worse.” She said to them.
“We talking like mad polar bear dog worse? Or tiger shark worse…?” Korra wondered.
Reina let out an exhale from hearing it. “Tiger shark worse.” She chuckled with Korra as everyone, minus Sub-Zero, laughed together.
“Oh dear, wish I could have seen it.” Rarity chuckled a bit.
“Trust me, she’s meaner than a polar bear dog with a bone.” Reina joked as Korra laughed at hearing it. Lee looked to Reina seeing her smile happily for the first time, it had been so long since he saw her smile like that. He smiled knowing she was able to have fun, but his smile faded knowing they still had a job to do… in regards to a certain mad man.
Meanwhile, Bolin was approaching Eska to make his move on her. “Hey, I'm Bolin. I'm a friend of Korra's! You're, uh, Eska right? Wow, I'm just, I am loving these robes.” He told her as Eska and Desna turn to look at him. Eska hisses at Bolin, who is somewhat taken aback. Bolin clears his throat. “So, you are from the north right? Cool, that's, like you know, that's my favorite direction.” He tried to flirt with her.
Applejack was nearby and she took notice of it as her eyes widened. “Oh hell… this is bad.” She muttered as Nightwolf looked as well.
“Yes, I can tell there is no connection between those two.” He told her.
Meanwhile Desna looked to his sister. “I think he is trying to establish some kind of bond with you based on your geographic point of origin.” He told his twin sister. (Seriously! I can’t stand these two!)
“Perhaps it would be interesting to spend time with a person whose ways are so rough and uncultured.” Eska looked towards Bolin. “You amuse me.” She said to him as she began to smile. “I will make you mine.” She told him, earning shocked looks from Applejack and Nightwolf.
“You mean like a boyfriend, or like a slave ...?” Bolin asked her feeling a bit unsure as he smiled nervously.
“Yes.” She responded as she grabbed him by his collar. “Win me prizes.” She demanded as Bolin laughs nervously while she grabs him by his collar and guides him away, while Desna walks beside her.
Applejack grimaced from watching the scene. “Nightwolf… this isn’t going to end well for him, is it?” She asked him.
“Given the situation…? Her being a spoiled snob, having and equally creepy twin brother, and being related to Korra…? I think the great spirit might give him a 20% chance of surviving tonight. 10% at the most.” He assured her.
“Very reassuring hon.” Applejack said to him.
At the stands as water goes into his mouth, a bell ring, his eyes and arrow light up, and the Momo figure above his head starts to rise. Mako and Korra both holding a water squirt gun as they play the game. Mako, looking at his target, is hitting his mark, while Korra, who is looking sideways to Mako, misses. “Unalaq offered to train me. He says he can teach me about the spirits and my connection to them.” She told him.
“Sounds good. What does Tenzin think?” Mako asked her.
“Tenzin thinks I'm his prisoner or one of his kids. I'll never finish training with him in charge.” She responded as she becomes irritated at the entire situation and angrily waterbends a big water stream out of her squirt gun, hitting the chibi Aang's figure's head full on and causing the the Momo cut out quickly reach the top of the meter, winning the carnival game.
“We have a winner!” The game announcer called out.
A plushy of Appa was given to Korra as a prize, and she loved it. “I mean, you heard what Unalaq said. The South is spiritually unbalanced and it's the Avatar's job to fix it, but my dad won't even let me think about Unalaq teaching me. Well?“ She asked him.
“Well what?” He replied to her.
“What do you think I should do?” She made the question more accurate.
Mako took a moment to think about it, he looked to her and smiled. “I guess you should do what you think is right. I support whatever decision you make.” He told her.
“Well we don’t…” Lee walked up to them with Reina. “I’m sorry, but you shouldn’t believe what Unalaq says.” He told her.
“Oh thanks. That's a big help Lee.” Korra said to him sarcastically.
“Lee, I’m trying to be supportive. Now you want me to tell her what you think? Make up your mind!” He told him.
“I’m speaking with brutal honesty, that she shouldn’t trust that monster of an uncle of hers.
Korra was taken aback by this and looked to him. “Monster? Why would you call him that?!” She asked him.
“He’s not who he says he is Korra… ever since he arrived here, all he ever talked about were the spirits, and that never strikes you as odd?” He asked her.
But before he could get an answer, she threw the Appa plushy into his face. “Just forget it! And Lee? I thought you were a nice guy… but clearly my uncle isn’t the monster her.” She said to him and stormed off.
“Korra!” Mako called to her but looked to Lee and took the plushy. “What’s gotten into you?” He asked him.
“Mako, things are about to unfold in this time that will change everything, and Unalaq is at the center of it.” Lee told him.
“Yeah? How do you know?” Mako asked him.
“Yes… how do you know?” Twilight approached with the girls.
“And don’t even think about lying mister, cause I’ll know.” Applejack warned him.
Reina saw them and looked to Lee. “Lee, they have to know.” She said to him.
Raiden approached them with Liu and the other defenders. “Is something wrong?” He asked.
“Yes… Unalaq is not some spiritually enlightened man that he says he is. We know, because we have seen a future that he helped cause.” Lee told them.
Twilight’s eyes widened from hearing it. “Wait, you mean to say that…?” She theorized only to earn a nod from the young warrior.
“We’re from the future.” Lee told them as they gave him and Reina shocked looks.
Rainbow Dash however, was not convinced of this and walked up to him. “All right future boy… if you’re from the future, prove it.” She said to him.
Without blinking an eye, he held out his mother’s pendent and showed how similar it was to Kitana’s. “This pendant belonged to Queen Kitana of Edenia… my mother.” He told them as Kitana’s eyes widened in shock from seeing it. “You can already guess as to who my father is.” He told them as he looked to Liu Kang.
Liu was surprised from it as Kung Lao approached him, looking between the two warriors. “Well, he does strike a strong resemblance to you Liu… but he has Kitana’s eyes.” He pointed out.
Kitana looked at the pendant then looked to Lee and approached him, seeing his eyes as he looked into her eyes. She couldn’t believe it herself, but she reached to his face and gently touched his cheek. “My son…? But… how…?” She asked him and looked towards Reina. “And what of you…? Who are your parents…?” She asked her.
Reina looked away, avoiding eye contact from Mako which earned his curiosity. But Lee stepped up to speak to them. “Listen, there is no time to explain, you’re all in danger here… the dark spirits are coming, and it’s not because of some spiritual belief, it’s because Unalaq will-“ Before he could explain.
“Will what young man…?” Unalaq walked up earning his attention.
Lee looked towards him, forming a glare as he secretly whipped out one of his blades. “You… let me ask you this. What are your true motives for Korra?” He asked him.
“I simply wish for her to learn about the spirits.” Unalaq answered him.
“You think you know everything, but you don’t.” Lee said to him.
“You seem so certain, almost like a man who had been in a fight with a dragon.” Unalaq pointed out.
“Hey! I resemble that remark!” Spike yelled.
“Lee, what are you getting at?” Twilight asked him.
“Where I come from, there won’t be a world, not for me, not for him, not for anybody!” Lee shouted in anger towards Unalaq.
The Northern chieftain was immediately feeling threatened, but kept his composure. “You seem to know much, but I can assure you, my intentions for Korra are pure.” He told him.
But Lee’s eyes slit into that of a dragon as flames surrounded his right hand as he balled it into a fist. “Pure you say? You say that, yet I know impurity when I see it. You had no pure intentions towards Korra… you never did.” He told him.
“How dare you! Korra needs my guidance!” Unalaq began losing his composure.
“So you say, yet in a dark future, Shinnok destroyed everything we held dear… and it’s all because of you!” Lee snarled as his voice became deeper and flames surround his body.
Unalaq was surprised to hear of this, and backed away. “I don’t know what you’re talking about!” He denied it.
“Lies will get you nowhere deceiver!” Lee pulled out both blades, earning shocked looks from the crowd as he walked towards him.
Unalaq panicked as he backed away. “Guards, seize him!” He called out as his guards rushed towards Lee.
But before they could reach him, sun fire and lightning landed between them, revealing Celestia and Raiden as they got between them. “Enough!” Raiden shouted at Lee and looked towards Unalaq.
“Lord Raiden, I strongly suggest you put this demon down where he stands, he threatened to assassinate me!” Unalaq demanded.
“He is no demon, but he’s not human either… so therefore, I cannot, and will not kill him.” Raiden responded to him.
Liu touched his future sons shoulder to get him to calm down. “Nor will I allow you to touch him.” He told the northern chieftain as he walked away with him.
The Main Six watched them go as Reina walked beside him. Unalaq scowled and looked towards Raiden. “You are supposed to be a protector, but now I see that is not the case.” He told him and stormed off.
Raiden watched him go, not caring what he believes as Celestia approached him. “I heard everything the boy said, do you think he is hiding something?” She asked him.
“I don’t know, but if there is a dark future ahead of us, we need to know everything he and Reina knows.” Raiden told her as he earned a nod from her as they walked to speak to them alone.
Meanwhile, Twilight was still trying to wrap her head around it. “This is insane… time travel? The only ones capable of doing it were Starswirl the Bearded, and… Starlight.” She realized and looked to her. “Starlight, you gave us the scroll you made from Starlswirl’s original copy, right?” She asked her.
“Yeah, I gave it to you guys after leaving Amon.” Starlight said to her and used her magic to show where it is currently being secured. “And last I checked, it’s still at the vault in Canterlot castle.” She pointed out making the image disappear.
“Then them being from the future isn’t so far fetched after all.” Flash suggested.
“But can they be trusted is what I’m wondering…?” Rainbow asked them.
“You saw the way he looked at Unalaq, clearly there’s something about the future that involves him… should we get to the bottom of it?” Applejack asked.
“I say we wait until we have concrete evidence.” Fluttershy suggested.
“Fluttershy’s right, if Unalaq is indeed hiding something, then we best be ready for when it is revealed.” Rarity said to them.
Meanwhile, Liu walked to Kitana and touched her shoulder. “Kitana, you all right?” He asked her.
“I don’t know… I find out I have a son in the future… and now, he claims that Unalaq caused a dark future.” Kitana said to him and looked to his eyes. “What do we do…?” She asked him.
“We’ll find out everything once Lord Raiden and Princess Celestia learn everything from Lee and Reina. Speaking of Reina….” He looked to where she was. “There is something vaguely familiar about her.” He pointed out, trying to figure her out.

Later that night, when everyone is asleep. Korra is sleeping against Naga, who awakens and runs outside. “Uh, Naga what are you doing?” She asked as she got up hearing her howl, prompting her to run outside to try and shush her. “Naga, hush!” she tried to keep her quiet to no avail. “Quiet, Naga, you'll wake everyone up!” She told her as Naga licked her face.
A groan is heard from above, and Rainbow Dash revealed herself. “What’s all the racket?” She asked her.
“I don’t know, something set Naga off.” Korra replied.
Bolin and Mako arrived from hearing it as Bolin yawns exhausted. “Uh, What's going on?” He asked.
Suddenly something caught Korra’s eyes as she looked seeing a dark entity speeding towards them. “What, is, that?” She asked as the spirit quickly makes its way toward the Avatar and attacks her, prompting Mako and Bolin to run toward them. The spirit pins Korra against a wall, and begins to lean in closely toward her, but it is distracted by Mako's and Bolin's attacks.
Bolin bends the earth at the dark spirit. “Got it!” He shouted only to see the dark spirit evade it and look to him. “Don't got it!” He exclaimed as the dark spirit slams him and his brother knocking them down the hill. Tonraq and Tenzin rush to their aid, helping them up.
Korra begins to attack at the entity with firebending, but the spirit is too fast and her attacks fail to hit. The spirit tries for a direct attack, but Korra manages to jump out of the way in time. “Korra!” Tonraq called as he is riding on a mass of ice.
Tonraq uses his bending to encase the spirit in ice. The spirit appears to have been contained, but several tendrils break through the top of the ice, grabbing both Tonraq and Korra, and throwing them into one of the huts and the ground respectively. The tendrils recede, and the ice explodes as the spirit breaks out completely. “Spirit, why are you angry with us? What have we done to offend you?” Tenzin asked it, but his attempt to converse with the spirit had no success, and he is batted away by the entity.
The spirit growled and looked towards where Korra was and walked towards her. But a wall of flames block it’s path and it looked to see Scorpion blocking its path. Fluttershy flew into the air and landed on its head and touched its head, causing her eyes to glow. “Fluttershy, what is it?!” Hanzo asked her.
She groaned from the experience, knowing it was a bit painful. “It’s angry, but also sad!” She explained only to get knocked off and falls to the ground. She shook her head and looked to the spirit. “The spirit is in pain, he’s not doing this willingly.” She told her fiancé.
Scorpion was surprised only to look to the spirit as it prepared to strike him. But Lee came out and leaped into the air, throwing a kick as his foot caught fire. “HAAAAHHHH!!!!!” He landed a solid hit against the spirits face, making it fall back. Lee stood in his battle stance and looked to Scorpion. “Is she all right?” He asked him.
“A little shaken up… but if what you said was true, Unalaq must be behind this.” He replied.
“For now, keep that to yourself… he’s already on edge.” Reina said to him as she waterbended at the spirit. The spirit avoided the attacks only to get blasted from behind and looks seeing Jax and Sonya.
“Come get some!” Jax shouted as he relentlessly blasted at it with Sonya. But the dark spirit avoided their attacks and charged only to see Pinkie beneath it, pointing an RPG at it with a grin. She pulled the trigger and launched the missile as it shot the spirit away from them.
The spirit slammed against the mountain wall as the missile blew up against it, but it miraculously survived and shook its head and got back up. Meanwhile Fluttershy shook her head as her eyes shut tight feeling different, this surprised Scorpion as he noticed claws forming on Fluttershy’s fingers, along with a pair of cat ears and a tail. Her eyes snapped open looking to the dark spirit and snarled. The dark spirit looked to her as she got up, and charged with lightning fast speed, and slammed against the spirit, knocking it down. The dark spirit rolled across the ground and looked to her, she inhaled and roared at the dark spirit, literally surprising it, and everyone around her. “Whoa… and we thought Flutterbat was tough as nails, but this is way out there!” Rainbow stated in surprise.
“What’s happened to our dear Fluttershy?” Rarity asked.
“Might be an affect from the dark spirit.” Sub-Zero theorized and looked to it. “I must also guess that it will not rest till it’s accomplished it’s mission, what ever it may be.” He pointed out as Fluttershy charged at the dark spirit and extended her claws and leaped over a strike from it as she clawed its face. The spirit cried out from it as Liu and Lee charged up to it and threw a powerful barrage of dragon fire at the dark spirit, it shielded itself from the barrage, but swung its arm and smacked them away.
Reina rushed towards Korra and kneeled to her, helping her sit up and trying to get her to wake up. “Korra, Korra please, wake up… we need you now, please.” She lowered her head and whispered as silently as she could. “Mom please… you have to get up.” She said as quietly as she could.
Korra slowly began to stir and opened her eyes from her daze and looked seeing her. “Reina…?” She spoke only to see the dark spirit taking down her friends, even noticing what happened to Fluttershy. “Fluttershy?!” She exclaimed in surprise.
Twilight teleported to her and kneeled helping her up. “Yeah, long story, but we can really use some Avatar state action right now!” She told her.
Rainbow Dash soon crashed next to them and groaned. “Like right freaking now would be nice!” She shouted.
“Coming up!” Korra got up alongside Reina as Korra enters the Avatar State, catching the attention of the spirit. The spirit makes its way toward Korra once more, she lifts herself into the air to dodge its attack, causing the entity to land in the festival market behind her. Reina charged towards it, forming a water whip and striking it multiple times. Korra shoots a number of fire blasts at the spirit from atop her air spout, but their attacks seem to have no effect, and the spirit grabs Korra and Reina with two of its tendrils, slamming them into a nearby stack of boxes. The spirit stands over both of them, intending to issue another blow, when a stream of water controlled by Unalaq starts to encircle it, and the spirit ceases its attack. As Unalaq continues to bend the water so that it encircles the entity entirely, the water starts to glow, and the spirit changes color. As the water falls to the ground, the spirit begins to walk away, before disappearing.
Korra was surprised to see it happen, and looked towards Unalaq who finished what he was doing to the spirit. “Go in peace.” He told the spirit and looked towards Korra.
Tonraq runs over with Tenzin. “Korra!” He called to her and helped her up with
“Are you all right?” Tenzin asked.
But Korra was too focused on her uncle to reply, only to ask him. “How are you able to control that spirit when no one else could?” she asked him.
Twilight stopped her. “Korra, let’s not get into that right now, we need to check your injuries.” She told her, hiding what Lee and Reina told them of him.
“It’s quite all right Princess Twilight, she has a right to know.” Unalaq told her while getting a glare from Lee. He looked to his niece and approached her. “As your father could tell you, I have spent my life studying the spirits and learning their ways. All of this knowledge is lost in the South, but I could teach you everything I know.” He told her.
But Tenzin quickly interjected. “Chief Unalaq, clearly you are very knowledgeable, but Korra still has much to learn about airbending. And I hope that going to the air temples will help her connect with the past Avatars.” He told him.
“Ugh…” Korra groaned in annoyance.
“The air temples will teach her nothing. Only I can give her the training she needs to be a complete Avatar.” Unalaq told them.
But her father stepped up knowing it is all lies. “I've told you that will not happen!” He objected.
“I second that.” Lee stepped up with Reina. “You don’t want to teach her, you want to control her!” He shouted with a growl from his inner beast.
But Korra got between them. “Hey! I'm right here! Anyone want to ask me what I think?” She asked them.
“Korra, please listen.” Tenzin pleaded.
“I'm tired of listening to you. Both of you. You keep me locked up, telling me you know what's best. But all of you were powerless against the spirit attack.” She pauses for a moment and finally makes her decision. “I think it's time I had a new teacher.” She said to them.
The defenders were shocked to hear it, and her father stepped up to her. “Now Korra-“
“Unalaq has proven he's the only one who knows what I need to learn. I have to go with him.” She interrupted him.
Kitana walked up to her. “Please Korra, I know you're angry, but you’ve already come so far together.” She told him.
“She’s right Korra, you can’t leave me now.” Tenzin pleaded to him.
“I'm sorry, Tenzin. This is as far as we go.” Korra said to him and looked to Kitana. “I have to do this.” She told her.
Kitana and Tenzin look at her feeling hurt, Mileena walked up and touched her shoulder. “Listen carefully young Avatar, you may believe you’re doing the right thing. But when you realize you’ve made a mistake, don’t come crying to us.” She told her and stormed off.
Korra was surprised and looked to Kitana who looked at her with disappointment and walked away. Liu walked up to her and touched her shoulder. “Mileena at this point is right… you need to see that this isn’t the right path.” He told her and walked after Kitana and the rest of the defenders.
Korra was hurt from what they told her and looked to Tenzin, who looked at her still feeling hurt. “It has been a pleasure serving you, Avatar Korra.” He said to her and walked off, Korra watched them go and looked down feeling hurt and looked towards Lee and Reina. They looked at her and followed the others as the Main Six remained by her side… with Fluttershy still looking like a cat.
“Korra, we’re still with you through this, but only to keep an eye on you.” Twilight said to her.
“Don’t even think about arguing with us girl, because you’ll lose in a heartbeat.” Applejack said to her with a smirk.
Fluttershy pawed at her ears to feel them, but looked to Korra. “You can still count on us, even with a circumstances, regarding…” She gestures to herself as she was stuck looking like a humanoid cat.
“Actually, I think you look a lot cuter that way.” Korra said to her as Fluttershy hid her face hiding a blush.
“I for one don’t trust your uncle as far as I can’t throw him… but, if we are to prevent anymore attacks from dark spirits, I’m with you to the end.” Rarity said to her.
“Heck, like we’re gonna let you have all the fun.” Pinkie grabbed Rainbow in a headlock.
“Yeah, we got your back.” Rainbow Dash smiled at her.
Korra smiled at them but looked to the other defenders. “I just wish they’d stick around.” She said as she looked down in shame.
Meanwhile, Unalaq walked to a place where he could be alone. He looked around and pulled out a dark amulet, forming an astral image of Shinnok. “Everything is going according to plan my lord.” He told him.
“I was wise to choose you as my disciple, Unalaq.” Shinnok said to him.
“But we have a problem… a young man, clad in blue, red, and silver Shaolin wear knows of our plan.” He told him.
Shinnok was surprised of this. “How is this possible?” He asked him.
“I know not my lord, but he possessed Princess Kitana’s war fans.” Unalaq informed him as Shinnok pondered it. “Shall I dispose of him Lord Shinnok?” He asked him.
Shinnok thought it over and looked to him. “No, until I know for certain, he is not to be touched. Do I make myself clear Unalaq?” He asked him.
Unalaq sighed knowing Lee will be trouble for him. “Understood my lord.” He responded to his master.
“Good, now remember… our mission comes first. Once the greatest force has been released from its prison… the power will be all yours.” Shinnok told him and vanished before Unalaq’s eyes.
The Northern Chief put the dark amulet away and looked out. “Power enough… to destroy the Avatar for good.” He muttered to himself.

The next morning, Tenzin watched as Jax packed everything into Oogi’s saddle, only to turn and see his mother approaching. “I think you forgot a couple of things.” She told him.
“Mother, I think I need some time alone with my family right now.” He replied to her and grabbed a sack and turned away from her.
“This is your family, Tenzin.” Katara said to him as Raiden approached.
“She is right Tenzin… when you get to be her age, you'll be thankful for the time you had with your siblings. Besides, I think it's important that you all visit your father's home together.” He told him.
Then out of no where, Bumi punches Tenzin's arm, before wrapping his arm around Tenzin's shoulders. “Come on! It'll be fun.” He assured him.
“I'm dying to see that laid back, Vacation Tenzin I've heard so much about.” Kya teased him.
But Tenzin tried not to let that get to him. “All right, hop on! I love you, Mom.” He hugged his mother. “We'll see you soon!” He got onto Oogi with his brother and sister, but Bumi was having trouble getting onto the bison. So Tenzin creates an air current under his brother to bring him up to the top of the bison.
Jax backed away with Sonya and Johnny and watched as the family took off, he soon looked to a hill seeing Mako and Korra standing together with the Main Six. She watched with Mako as they left, feeling the pain of what she caused him and looked down. “Do you think I did the right thing?” She asked her boyfriend.
Mako sighed knowing this was harder for him than her. “I don't know. I'm sorry, but I'm not very good at this Avatar counseling thing. But I know your heart is in the right place. You'll just have to trust it.” He told her as he held her hand, smiling at her.
“And luckily, you won’t have to face this task alone.” Liu said as he approached with Kitana and the others.
Korra looked to them and smiled. “Guys… I’m so sorry for the way I acted last night.” She said to them.
“Don’t worry about it… you were upset, it happens. I should know… I was just like you.” Kitana said to her with a smile.
Korra smiled at her and looked to Lee and walked to him. “Lee… I know I was, harsh… but-“
Lee held up a hand stopping her. “Think nothing of it… events have already been settled, but what happens next is for you to decide.” He said to her.
“We’re with you Korra.” Reina said to her.
“We all are.” Twilight added as she smiled.
Korra smiled at them with Mako, but soon saw Unalaq approaching. “I know this was a hard decision, Korra, but it was the right one. Now it is time to put it behind you and begin your new training. I have great plans for you.” He told her as Korra felt worried and looked to Lee, who glared at him with the rage of a dragons fire. She didn’t know why, but she was going to have to find out eventually. Reina knew that one day she had to tell Korra the truth… but it wasn’t going to be easy for her. Twilight and her friends knew this as well, Lee and Reina told them of the dark future, and we’re keeping it to themselves until the time was right to tell Korra. They hoped that she will take it well, either that… or get burned.
