The Thing in The Hospital Room
May 7th, 2019
Black County General Hospital, Canterlot Mississippi, CSA
Fluttershy lay in the hospital bed, it was a wheeled bed, lifted up just enough that her head faced the television, running from a pole to her thin arm was an IV line. Her long pink hair was in a mess of tangles, her blue eyes were sunk in. She was sick, there was no doubt about that, she knew she was but not how sick she was. A week ago she had been a picture of health, say for her asthma, but that was not near as bad as during her childhood.
Then she began throwing up, with diarrhea as well, she figured it was just the flu and used her stocked up vacation time, to take off from her job at the Burea for Business Regulation. After a few days laying in bed, her partner Ellie caring for her, she went to the bathroom like usual, only to find an alarming amount of blood in the toilet bowl. She rushed to the emergency room and placed in a room, that leaves us where we are now, in the hospital room, late at night.
The room was dark, say for the glow of the wooden box TV, and a dim bedside lamp. The room was quiet say for the quiet voice of the news reporter, and the light beep of the heart monitor next to her. Fluttershy could spot the glow of street lamps and other lights on the streets below, looking like a starry night cast onto the ground. Fluttershy weakly lifted her hand to rub her eyes before reaching over to the remote on the bedside table, pressing the red off button, casting the room into near-complete darkness.
The dim light of the adjustable lamp cast light just next to her, giving her a feeling of comfort in the dull hospital room. She rolled her head to the side, closing her eyes, drifting into a state of sleep. she was slowly woken up with the sound of light scratching. She glared her tired eyes to the glowing analog clock above the window. As her eyes adjusted, she saw that the clock read 1:33 AM, its hand appearing dead at the thirty-second mark.
The scratching continued, sounding as if it was coming from beside the TV. Fluttershy felt a light fear wash over her, a sense that something inhuman was with her. The more childish area of her brain thought of the possibility of a ghost, a patient who'd been there before and had died, scratching at the wall to scare her. The more logical side of her brain thought of the possibility that a large rat or other animal was scratching against the wall, she didn't know what was worse
She noticed something, outside of her room was just silence, no footsteps, no doctors, and nurses conversing over the condition of other patients. Fluttershy raised a hand, trembling from fear and weakness to the dimmer knob at the base of the lamp. As quickly as she could muster, she turned the switch to the right, lighting up the room. Nothing, there was nothing, no scratching, just the sound of her heart monitor and the light ticking of the clock.
Fluttershy let out a light chuckle, assuming it to just be her mind making things up. Dimming the light, she closed her eyes to fall back asleep. The sound of scratching woke her yet again, this time she didn't feel fear as much as an annoyance until she thought, this time it couldn't be a hallucination, it sounded just like before, only it was on the bathroom door to her left, a quiet sound of ragged breathing emanating from the spot.
Fearfully she reached over and turned the knob to brighten the light. Frozen in horror she looked at the door and the creature that made its presence there. Its thin body was hunched over covered by a tattered and stained blue gown. It's gray, splotchy skin looked as if it was stretched over its thin elongated bones, long, sharp claws scratched against the door. The thing noticed her watching and turned its head around to face her, bones cracking as it did so.
Its face was horrific, its eyes were black and glassy, sitting huge in its skull. Its teeth were massive, protruding out like those of an angler fish, its needle-like teeth sticking out from its mouth, gray stringy hairs hung of its head. Fluttershy began to breathe heavily, her breathing became faster and faster until she began to cough and wheeze. The creature drew closer to her bed, causing Fluttershy to back against the railing.
Until she fell to the floor, knocking over her IV bag and heart monitor, shattering its screen. She pushed herself back against the wall as the creature climbed over the bed on its hands and feet, knees bending in an unnatural doglike way. As it drew closer, a sudden burst of adrenaline launched her off the ground and into a quick run. She pulled the IV pole behind her, catching it on the bed and ripping the tube out of her arm.
She swung the heavy wooden door open with so much force that it knocked a hole in the wall. She ran down the fluorescent-lit empty hallway, passing rooms that looked exactly like hers did. She turned her head to see if the thing was following her. With a thump, she ran into something knocking it over, to her horror it was the thing. Thinking fast she began to punch it in its horrid face with all the strength she could muster, striking it over and over again.
She felt something grab her and pull her away from it, it was a doctor, a thin man with the face of a middle-aged man and gray hair, wearing khaki pants, a black dress shirt, a white doctor's coat, and black dress shoes. Fluttershy flailed and kicked, striking him in the faces well
"I NEED A STRAIGHT JACKET AND A GURNEY!" he yelled attempting to subdue the pink-headed girl.
As two security guards in blue uniforms struggled to place her in a straight jacket the adrenaline finally wore off. She finally saw what she had done, it wasn't the thing in her room, it was a nurse. She looked to be in her twenties, but you couldn't tell due to how badly she had been beaten, blood staining her white uniform. She was drug away by the guards, the doctor looking over the nurse as she was placed on a gurney.
Fluttershy looked up to see the thing, crawling on the ceiling, following them. she screamed and kicked, though she knew that it wouldn't help, she still screamed as she rounded the corner to her new residence in the psych ward, where the thing would watch her until her demise.
