Solaire And His Sun
Moving Out
Previous ChapterNext ChapterSolaire shot up from his position on the floor, clambering to his feet as fast as possible. He had pushed Twilight and Starlight away, and causing the kids from earlier to step back. He looked around before letting his eyes land on Twilight. "I need to get to the border immediately, and I'm afraid to tell you that you're not coming with."
"Wait- what?! No, no we agree'd that I was coming with-"
"SHUT IT!" Solaire yelled angrily, his arms splayed out from the anger within. Twilight instinctively backed up, her ears splayed down. "I don't care what we agree'd, with these things around the rules change. I think they're attracted to me, and wherever I go they seem to follow. Darkwraith's are among the most dangerous creatures on my world, and they're not easily taken down. If they touch you with their hand, you're done.
"If I can get to the border I can find that Pyromancer and bring the creatures away from you, at-least the bulk of them. I have no doubt they'll still appear in the vicinity, but the numbers should decrease. I'm going to take a train to talk to Luna and figure out what I need to do. It appears that I can no longer wait for her to tell me in my dreams."
Twilight shook her head. "No- no! It's too dangerous to go alone-"
"I'm not asking for permission, Twilight. I'm going to do this, and you can't stop me." Solaire said before storming out of the building in a full sprint, making his way out of the school and down into the castle to grab his things, his body moving on pure instinct and fear alone. Once he was inside Twilight's room he put his armor on and sheathed his sword, making his way out of the castle and straight to the train station.
He didn't have money for a ticket, and he didn't know he did. He simply boarded the train that was there and on its way to Canterlot, ignoring the yelling ticket-collector and shooting him an intimidating glance. He sat down on the seat and began to think of all of the ways that this could fail.
Darkwraith's are dangerous creatures. They're known to make people insane with the touch of their crimson hand, and it could end your life easily. Witnessing the effects of being touched by the hand was enough to give Solaire nightmares. How they wouldn't stop screaming in agony, even though there was nothing hurting them. Plus it was also high time that he got things moving. Nothing was going to happen without a little pushing, and if he had to get a little angry and push some buttons he was willing to do that.
The explanation by that strange person in the void made no sense, but it seemed to motivate him to get things done as fast as possible. Even if that person wasn't real, even if it was something he made up in his head while he was out cold it didn't matter. If his path truly is empty then he would make it atleast worth something. To protect those around him, and especially this colorful world.
The world that he used to love looking at, but could no longer stare at the passing beautiful scenery. He was only reminded of his old world and the decay that had taken over it, and was fearful that the same would happen to this world as well. If that were the case, then he would make sure to prepare for another bleak eternity in a world that used to be oh so colorful.
The train had arrived at its destination. It seemed that Solaire was lost in his thoughts for longer than he thought. He stood up and made his way off the train, making a direct turn to go to Luna's bedroom where she was likely sleeping at the moment. He didn't have time to wait for her, and instead approached her door. Two guards sat guarding the door outside, but he didn't have time to deal with him. He couldn't get spotted by Celestia.
He forced the two guards away with his hands and began to bang loudly on the door of Luna's room. The two guards gained their footing and pointed their spears at Solaire. "Don't move! Do not move!"
Luna swung the door open with a sabre in her magic. "Who dares attack me in my sleep! You will come to face m-... Solaire?"
"Hey, Luna. I really, really need to talk to you. Right now."
Luna gave him a confused look and looked at both of the guards. "Stand down, he's fine. Allow him in."
The guards huffed in annoyance and stood back at their posts, allowing him inside her room. As Solaire stepped in he closed the door behind himself and looked around her room. She slowly walked over to her bed and sat on top of it, looking back at him. "I hope this is important. Waking me up so abruptly and violently in the middle of the day isn't something I take lightly."
Solaire took his helmet off and set it on the small desk beside the door. "I need you to get me to the border. To find that pyromancer and to stop the rebellion. I was attacked earlier by a Darkwraith in Twilight's school when she introduced me to her students, and I am thinking that the bulk of these creatures are appearing in my vicinity. It will pull the danger away from her and everyone else here."
Luna closed her eyes, trying to think of something. "I... I'm not sure I can get you out of here today, it'd be extremely difficult for me to pull something together to get you there. There aren't any trains that are heading to the east border anymore because of the rebellion, so sending one would be suspicious. There's no more guards making their way over there, so I can't send you with one of them. The only thing I can do is..."
She suspiciously paused, causing Solaire to raise his eyebrows. "Yes?"
"I regularly get letters from the border by the captains stationed there. I can use the dragonfire that is traced there and use that to teleport you right there without a hassle! The only problem with that is that it's extremely dangerous, and doesn't always work. Also, you might go blind for a couple days."
Solaire put his helmet on. "Great, let's get to it!"
"Wait- I just said you might go bli-"
"Yeah, and I could've died today by getting stabbed through the stomach by that damn Darkwraith. Shit happens, let's get it moving! The faster I can get to that Pyromancer, the faster I can find a way to end these creatures from making their way over here and stopping all these problems. I can also stop the rebellion which will ease Celestia's mind, and more than likely Shining Armor's. Remember what you told me? If he truly does go hollow it will have an effect on everyone around him, literally. It's what we call 'Hollow Essence.' It'll attach onto you and cause you to become depressed and suicidal.
"If that happens, then... Well, it's not going to be good. Your ponies aren't exactly built to withstand adversity of those sorts."
Luna nodded. "I can agree. Since I've come back, things have drastically changed. Whereas when I was still a half-ruling princess, every stallion was required to learn to fight, and even most of the mare's. Now it is a gleaming rainbow full of nothing. I tell you, the way that-"
"Luna."
"-...Yes, yes... Let me grab one of the letters they've sent me from the border." She said, levitating a letter from a pile of letters and opening it up, her horn glowing and a blue hue casting over the entire letter. "That should do the trick. I should have the location, and now I just have to cast it on someone. But, are you sure of this? You could appear in a rock, or even worse, inside somepony else."
"Woah woah, I don't know who you take me for Luna, but I always get consent first."
Luna blushed and shook her head. "Are you ready, or not? I've got some sleep to catch up on, and a meeting with a king."
"Ah, forgot about that. Good luck with that by the way. I'm ready!"
"Alright. I'd say let me know if anything bad happens but, you wouldn't be able to. Good luck, Solaire."
Solaire saw a blinding flash of light and everything going dark all at the same time, before appearing in a tent filled with ponies decked out in military gear. They all slowly looked up at him, some of their eyes widening and others slowly reaching for their weapons.
"Should've asked for an official stamp of approval or something..."
Inferno Emerald stared at the creature in front of her who was currently showing its back at her. It was bipedal, just like the one that attacked her, but she had heard of this very creature. It was the one that showed up out of nowhere within Canterlot all those days ago, and it had managed to find its way in the main tent. Out of the blue.
She needed to make sure no one tried killing the damn thing!
"Everypony stand down! Creature, identify yourself!"
Solaire quickly turned around and stared at the pony, splaying his arms out in a unimposing way. "I am Solaire, and I have come here on the basis of Luna herself. She has sent me here to help aid in stopping the rebellion, and to find a Pyromancer that I have been searching for. I am afraid I have nothing to prove what I say, but I am sure if any of you were to send her a letter she would happily respond."
Emerald simply stared up at him confused. "I'm a Pyromancer. The only one here."
"Oh! Great, it's finally nice to meet you! I've been searching for someone of your talents for quite some time now and I need your help in getting something built. I'm sure you would have no problem with it once I describe it to you."
Everyone looked at Emerald, and she seemed to shrink from the staring. "Everypony back to what you were doing! Solaire, come with me." She said while she exited the tent, Solaire following behind her for about a minute straight before she stopped in an open field and turned to him. "First off, I'm not a construction pony, I can't help you build anything. Second of all, you have some nerve just appearing in the main tent like that! I'm not even high ranked enough to give those orders, but I had to to make sure you didn't get minced alive!"
Solaire nodded. "Yes yes, I know it was quite dumb of me, but I had no choice. Luna said it was the only way to get here without a long, long walk. So I took her up on it. I can assure you that you won't be doing anything with construction, but I need your talents of Pyromancy in order to make something special. Do you know what this is?" He asked, holding up his Estus Flask.
She smirked. "Of course i do. It's Estus."
"You know what this is?"
She nodded. "Liquid Fire. I don't know why you're carrying it around in a bottle."
Solaire was the one to smirk now. "Oh, yeah? Well I just like to sip it from time to time." He said, taking his helmet off and bringing the flask to his lips and sipping it, much to the disapproval of Emerald who was about to tackle him. "Wait wait wait- I'M FINE! I'm fine- alright? This stuff doesn't hurt me. In fact it heals me."
"What? H-How? It's literally liquid fire!"
"Yeah? And I'm undead, so do you want an explanation for everything?"
"...Fine. You said you wanted to help with the rebellion, right?"
"Yes, yes."
She sighed, nodding her head over to a far-off tent where a few screams were coming from. "Well we've got other problems to deal with. Some sort of creature that was bipedal like you touched one of our ponies and... Well, ever since that red-claw thing grabbed his head he's been non-stop screaming."
Solaire sighed, shaking his head. "That was a Darkwraith. I encountered one myself earlier today."
"You have?"
"Mhm. And I also know that there's no cure for your friend in there."
Emerald's eyes widened. "No- you don't know that! What the buck do you know anyways?!"
"I know that those things come from my world, and I've dealt with hundreds of them before. Not even the most advanced of skills or magic could save a person that has been touched by a Crimson Hand. Once you've been touched, your done. They will scream in agony even if they're fine. The only way to stop their suffering is to end their misery."
"That's barbaric! Equestria might be different- you never know!"
Solaire knew he wasn't getting anywhere with this pony. "Fine- fine. You might be right. You have magic that I've never seen before, perhaps you have an unknown cure to this curse. Anyways, I came here because of that as well. They seem to be attracted to my vicinity, since I am from their world as well. I didn't want to put the towns in peril, so I came here. Kill two birds with one stone."
Emerald shrugged. "I don't know. The rebellion isn't going anywhere right now, and they haven't attacked in a long time, and that was the only combat we've had so far. I don't know how you being here would help anything at all."
"Oh it's simple really. I have the courage to do what you all cannot. I understand what it is like to cut down one of your own, so it is much easier for me to do it compared to any of you."
"What?! Are you doubting my skills?!" Emerald growled, her nostrils flaring slightly with fire blowing out of them slightly.
"Not at all, but I do know that from what I've seen ponies are generally the emotional type. Where I come from, Emotions get you killed. So I will have no problem in doing what needs to be done, regardless of morality in the situation. I am here to stop the rebellion and request your help, that is all."
Emerald shook her head before stopping and staring behind Solaire, where her captain happened to be walking towards them. "Oh buck.."
"What?"
"Seems like somepony wants to talk to you."
