Solaire And His Sun

A Sour Breakfast

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Solaire awoke from the luxurious guest bed, sitting up firmly.

Remembering the day before, with Twilight and her friends, along with Celestia and him on the balcony, he couldn't help but smile a little. It was a good day, as he was able to help Celestia and have fun with her, while also helping her student.

"I should make it a rule to not teleport to the balcony. That was just cheating-" He said with a light laugh, now dangling his legs off the side of the bed. He wore.. nothing. Solaire had found it much more comfortable to sleep nude, and it definitely was weird at first. His instinct was to always protect his body, yet letting it breathe once in awhile definitely soothed him to sleep easier.

It was agree'd yesterday that Solaire would have breakfast with Celestia, her student and friends, and her sister. He glanced out the window to see if daylight had struck yet, and thankfully it had not. The dark sky was still out, so he couldn't have been late.

He stood, walking over to his armor set and putting on his underclothing before equipping the surprisingly comfy armor. Setting the helmet on top of his head and locking it into place, he went to go grab his sword and flask. Equipping them both, he headed for his door before a small knock came from it.

"A visitor?" He asked himself, slowly approaching the door. He opened it cautiously, a hand on his sword.

Thankfully, it was only Celestia.

"Ah- Celestia! What are you doing here?" He asked, his head tilting slightly in confusion. She looked at him brightly, a big smile on her face. She had definitely cheered up since the day before.

"Oh- I was coming to make sure you didn't forget to come to breakfast. It'll start in a few minutes."

Solaire chuckled softly. "Why would I forget that? I don't break promises. In fact, I was about to make my way there at this very moment. I just got dressed." He said, waving down at his armor.

"Ah- that is good news." She said with a smile, before she became a little more excited.

"Oh- Solaire! I'm sure you would love to see this." Celestia said, pointing herself towards the moon. Within a few seconds, her horn had glowed a yellow aura, and the moon began to fall. The sun slowly climbed its way back to its perch in the sky, and she looked back to him with a smile, as if she was a child trying to show something cool off.

"That was- that was definitely something, Celestia. I would say that is probably the most amazing things I've ever witnessed!"

Celestia was obviously pleased to hear this as her smile became even brighter. She was definitely enjoying the praise from Solaire. Solaire gestured with his hand to the stairs and asked:

"I would say it's breakfast time, isn't it?"

"Yes indeed~"

With Celestia and Solaire walking in the Dining Hall together, the others already seated stared.

"Oh- dear sister, don't tell me that he was the lump in your bed~" Luna spoke up teasingly. The other ponies already seated began to laugh, with Twilight hiding a smile. Celestia groaned a little and waved a hoof at the group.

"I assure you that nothing happened. Besides, if it did happen to me true, I could keep quiet unlike somepony." Celestia stared at Luna, who was now hiding a large blush. The group began to laugh even harder at the playful talk, and Twilight joined them.

Solaire was quiet, but underneath the steel helmet he was definitely not straight-faced. He was blushing with a smile on his face, holding back his laughter.

Both Celesta and Solaire both took their seats across from each other.

"So- Twi' told us what happened when we left." Applejack spoke, turning to Solaire with a smile. "She told us you were the one that helped her. 'Ah gotta' thank you. Don't know what ya' did but, 'ah 'aint complanin'." After she spoke, Rainbow turned her head over to Solaire as well.

"Yeah.. Sorry for not believing in you- I just didn't think that it would work."

Solaire simply shook his head while raising a hand. "I simply let her see the light in the world. Sometimes people just get shrouded in darkness that they forget they're in daylight."

"Wise words." Luna said, with the group nodding in agreement.

The waiter had came over to take their orders when Solaire had forgotten to take off his helmet. After all, as Celestia said before, it was respectful to take it off. With both hands on the side of his helmet, he twisted, popping the helmet off the armor and setting it to the side.

The group looked at him strangely.

"I assume that you all aren't familiar with how I look, or you all are staring because i'm just so handsome." Solaire said jokingly, which got a few laughs from the others.

"You aren't ugly by any means- just.. strange." Rarity said, her face tilting to the side as she tried to take in all of the features on his face. His hair, his eyes, his skin tone and structure.

"Now now- I don't believe it's polite to stare. Also, the waiter is here to take our orders." Celestia spoke up, trying to divert the attention from Solaire. She could definitely tell that Solaire, although not showing it, was a little nervous from all the staring.

As each pony took their order, and Solaire taking a random order from the list of items they had, the ponies had begun talking amongst themselves. Celestia and Luna were talking with the others about how their days had been and what adventures they may have been on. All political talks were off the table it seemed. Solaire however did not pay attention to any of this, and was staring off at one of the stained glass windows in the hall.

He couldn't make out what it was, but it was intriguing. He had also thought that since he was not known friends with the others, he shouldn't barge into the conversation. It would've likely landed on the topic of himself, and he didn't exactly like the idea of having such hardship and sadness plague the breakfast scene.

Celestia would glance over to Solaire from time to time, to see what he was looking at or to simply watch him. She had taken a liking to watching him take in all of his surroundings and observing things with a curious look. It was like watching a newborn puppy discovering the world for the first time.

However, it made Celestia a little sad from watching him. Knowing his world was much different from theirs and, how sometimes she may have taken her own world for granted. Watching him made her realize just how lucky she really got in life, and how much worse it could have been.

He thoughts were completely disrupted when Twilight had yelled.

"Shiny! There you are!" Twilight said, getting up from her seat and running over to the unicorn.

"Twily! I knew you would be here-" He said, putting his hoofs up to her cheeks, before looking over to the table. He was happy to see the rest of her friends there, but his facial expression had changed once he locked eyes with Celestia and Solaire. "I knew they would be here too." He growled.

"I don't like this.." Solaire said under his breath, nobody hearing his words. Shining Armor took a couple of steps forward before Celestia stood, a hoof out.

"Before you sit with us, I ask for you to not bring up anything political. This is simply breakfast, or dinner-" Celestia glanced to Luna, "and I intend for it to stay that way." Shining took a few more steps and took a seat beside Solaire, though with obvious distaste. He nodded, waiting for the waiter to come take his order.

"Good. Now, Twilight, You were talking about your school?" Celestia had continued the conversation with Twilight. Solaire turned to his right towards Shining, who was giving him a distasteful scowl. Solaire simply shrugged it off, turning to listen to the conversation before a hoof was put on his shoulder.

Solaire turned directly to Shining quickly, the expression on his face turning from neutral to slight anger.

"I want you to know that I have no liking of you. I don't like you being here, I don't like your voice, your armor, or the way you act like her slave." Shining gestured towards Celestia, who wasn't paying attention.

"Can't you simply enjoy breakfast without being angry?" Solaire said, going to turn away before a hoof again turned his gaze right back onto Shining. However, before Shining could speak, Solaire pulled his hoof in, getting close to Shining's face.

"Don't touch me. You wouldn't like losing in front of your sister."

With that- Shining stood, taking a few steps back and charging towards Solaire with an angry look.

Solaire rolled to the side, unsheathing his sword and taking a defensive stance. Shining had almost crashed right into Applejack, but was able to stop himself before he did so. The sudden action had frightened the group, as Luna and Celestia both watched, now standing and ready to intervene.

"What is going on?!" Luna yelled across the room. Shining nor Solaire responded back to her, as they were currently focused on fighting. Solaire was stepping back a bit, his eyes watching Shining's. Shining was pissed, and aimed his horn towards Solaire. With a glow around his horn, many magical blasts were sent toward Solaire.

Thankfully, Solaire had training with such magic in his own world. With expertly calculated rolls and dodges, he wasn't hit a single time with the magic. He didn't want to fight, and instead looked towards Celestia. The look on his face clearly was asking for help.

Celestia groaned loudly before yelling, "Enough!" a golden aura now consuming Shining's body. He wriggled around in mid-air, glaring at Celestia. He knew better than to retaliate against the Princess.

"What. Do you think. You are doing?" Celestia asked angrily, bringing Shining to her. He simply looked back at her in disgust, and if she were not a Princess, would try fighting back. Celestia waited for a response from him, which he never gave, until he asked:

"How come he isn't being held?! How come i'm the only one in trou-"

"Stop acting like a child, Shining. I can tell who started the fight. Do you take me for an idiot?" With that, Celestia let Shining go. He turned his gaze to Solaire before Celestia spoke again. "If you even so much as walk towards him threateningly, i'll make sure to have you put in the dungeon for a week."

Twilight and the others were watching in horror and fear, not seeing Celestia so angry before. Twilight had recalled a few times she had gotten angry, but nothing like this. It was definitely something that had been building up. She turned her gaze to Shining, before speaking up.

"S-Shining, why did you attack him?"

"Really?! You're asking me that question? Your own brother- why are you on his side?!"

"I'm not on anypony's side! I-I want to know what the hay happened!"

Shining turned away in anger, and didn't say a single word. He began to make his way towards the door, before turning back to the group.

"This kingdom is being run by a bunch of idiots. Only three days and you've gone attached to that creature like he's your husband." Celestia glared, but didn't speak. "You're an idiot for trusting that thing, Celestia. And Twily, I can't believe you wouldn't even come to help."

Twilight stared at him with a sad yet confused look. He wasn't like this before, in fact, he was never like this. He hadn't had this much anger nor hatred towards her or her friends, and the Princess' either.

"You've got hate in your heart. I hope that you learn to let it go." Solaire spoke, sheathing his sword, his gaze not tearing away from Shining who'm began to laugh.

"Go die. You'd be better off being nutrition for the soil." Shining spat back, before finally walking out of the room.

Needless to say, the entire room, except for Solaire, was in awe. Such words were rarely said, and even enemies at their worst wouldn't wish something like that. Well, for ponies, that is. Griffons and others' have said things like that, but ponies were much different.

"I'm going to strangle that bucking-" Celestia grumbled to herself in anger. Having such words of hatred uttered in her own castle was something she didn't take lightly.

Solaire looked on at the group, but his gaze was specifically on Twilight, who had streaks of tears flowing from her eyes. Her face had shown she was hurt from Shining's words, even if they weren't directed towards her in the end. Hearing her own brother say such terrible things, and to see him get so angry over seemingly nothing, was not helping her current mental state at all.

Celestia glanced up to see this as well, which made her only more angry. She wasn't going to take this injustice. Standing up, she bolted for the door as fast as she could. Solaire watched her for a little, before instinctively running after her.

"Princess- Princess! Stop!" He yelled, trying to catch up to her. She was extremely fast, and didn't show any signs of slowing down until a couple more seconds passed by. Slowly, she began to walk.

Then, she stopped, and Solaire was standing behind her.

"How could he say such terrible things to you? To his own sister? To us? How?!" Celestia said, turning around.

Solaire took a heavy breath before closing the gap between him and her. Once he was face to face, he put his hands over her and pulled her in.

It was a hug.

"Don't let it get to you, Princess. You're stronger than him, so don't let your emotions get the better of yourself like he let happen."

Celestia didn't speak back. Solaire could feel something wet seep slowly through his armor. It was Celestia's tears.

They held that stance for what seemed like an eternity, simply hugging each other.

Solaire had eventually pulled back from it and held Celestia's face in his hands. Using his thumbs, he wiped away her tears and pointed back to where they originated.

"Twilight needs you. The others need you. Be their sun, and tell them it's okay." He said with a smile on his face. Celestia sniffled a little before chuckling a little, nodding.

"R-Right.. I'm stronger than this.. Thank you." Celestia told him. Solaire simply nodded as Celestia began to make her way back to the Dining hall. Passing Luna on the way back, they nodded to each other, and went separate ways.

Solaire watched as Luna slowly approached him.

"I didn't know a simple meal could take such a drastic turn." Luna said with a slightly sad tone.

"Oh- I don't know. You never have sword fights during your meals?" Solaire said sarcastically, to which Luna giggled a little.

"I'm afraid how this might effect Twilight. You know, with her own problems, plus this one being added, it doesn't seem like it's going to turn out well."

"She's hurting, that is known. Yet I believe she is stronger than that. Definitely stronger than her brother." Luna nodded.

"Well- I must get to sleep. All of this was straining and i'm very much tired. You'll make sure to keep Tia, Twilight and her friends all in check, yes?" She asked.

"I promise i'll do my best."

With that, Luna smiled, trotting off in the other direction. She was eager to get to bed and sleep on the stress that today had caused. Solaire couldn't blame her.

In fact, he now wished he could've just slept in.
