2: Rinse, Repeat

Fluttershy slumped into the break room chair.

“So, neighbor, how’s the data entry goin’?” Pinkie Pie asked.

Fluttershy threw away the plastic baggie that had held her sandwich. “Not great. I did half of it yesterday. But it’s so boring that I’m going way slower today.” She took another sip of coffee. It really was pretty good. Better than the stuff she had at her apartment, even. It had a subtle aftertaste of something that was hard to place.

“How much did ya get through this morning?”

“I don’t know.” Fluttershy scrunched her lips, furrowed her brow. It had all started to blur together. “I guess I stopped counting too much.”

“You know, I’ve got just the thing for you.” Pinkie Pie glanced around. They were the only two people in the break room. She reached into her purse, pulled out a box.

“What’s that? Oh, uhm, if you don’t mind me asking?”

Pinkie smiled. She turned the box around. The picture on the side showed a picture of a woman biting her lip, and a curving, bumpy piece of white silicon.

Pinkie leaned in. “It’s a wearable vibrator.”

Fluttershy felt her cheeks redden. “What?”

“You put it on underneath your panties.” She traced a finger along the picture. “See the shape? It fits right in.”

“Are you serious?” Fluttershy looked at the breakroom door. “Is this a joke or a prank or something?”

“It’s just a little way to make your work day less boring, you know?” Pinkie leaned in again. “I’m wearing one.”

“What?” Fluttershy squeaked out.

Pinkie Pie pulled out an egg-shaped remote. It was the same shade of pink as her hair. “No joking. I would never lie to my best friend and cubicle neighbor. That’s a sacred bond! More important than your apartment neighbors, even!”

Pinkie set the remote on the table, slid it over. “You can prove it.”

Fluttershy looked at Pinkie. She had not stopped staring the whole conversation.

Fluttershy reached out slowly, pushed a button on the remote.

Pinkie Pie flinched, exhaled sharply. “See?” she whispered.

Fluttershy pressed the button again, and Pinkie doubled over on to the desk.

“Oh my goodness, I’m sorry.”

“I-it’s fine.” Pinkie grabbed the remote, pressed something and relaxed. “Like I said, it’s great. Really keeps you awake when you’re typin’ in stuff nonstop.”

Pinkie slid the box forward. “I got a new one just for you. Just stick it in your purse, make a little trip to the bathroom, and then just like that, exciting job!”

Fluttershy picked up the box. She had an internet connection, so of course she knew the idea. But in public? In an office? How crazy was this girl?

“There’s some tech on the cubicle walls, you know.” Pinkie Pie said. “It blocks out noise, to reduce distraction. Really, you can be as loud as you want. But, well…it’s kind of fun to see how quiet you can be.”

Fluttershy stared at the box. It was insane. She should walk out of the break room, of the building. She should be at home bragging to her comrades about her big score, lining up bids.

She rubbed her thighs together and bit her lip.

Type, close popup, corporate message. Pulse. Type, close popup, corporate message. Take a sip of coffee. Turn the page. Pulse. Rinse, repeat, until her shift ended.

When she got home, she felt so tired again. The vibrator had made her feel more…awake? It had definitely made her day go faster. She had barely noticed the time. Pinkie Pie had needed to remind her that her shift was over again.

She really should check that data. Brag to everyone on the forum, start sending out notices to her contacts.

She stuck her clothes in the wash, kicked off her heels. She fell asleep with the vibrator on, thinking about how much data she still had left to enter.
