Chapter 3: Things Getting Complicated

Zaq and Misty Moon back on Earth, their business in Equestria being done with a few weeks ago. But the venture to Misty’s home world were almost forgotten, for right now the pair were about to face a big challenge, probably the biggest one they’ll face so far.

The pair were standing on the front porch of Zaq’s old family home, the place where they literally had to run away from, otherwise the safety of Misty would’ve been in danger. The thestral herself was really nervous about meeting these people again, as the last time she’s seen them, they called her a temptress, and labeled her the fiend that stole their son from them. as for Zaq himself, his palms were practically sweating and his heart was beating in his chest, which was understandable since his parents pretty much disowned him, for not separating himself from Misty and decided to remain with her.

“Are you sure you want to do this Zaq?” Misty asked her mate, as she nuzzles up to him, practically feeling the nervous vibe emanating from him. Zaq paused before giving a small shake of his head.

“Not really…” Zaq said in a low voice. He then took in a breath through his noose, before slowly releasing it through his pursed lips

“But with how the negotiations have been going, and how some other people and ponies are pairing up…maybe there’s a chance they changed their attitudes about the whole thing.” Misty nuzzled to Zaq’s hand, causing it to gently pat and scritch behind her ears.

“Well whether or not it works out, I’ll be right by your side.”

Looking down at his mare, Zaq gives a thankful smile before he steadied his nerves, and the pair walked up to the door. Upon reaching it the young man gave the door a few loud knocks, and the pair just waited for a response, while readying themselves for whatever may come. A few long, nerve wrenching minutes go by, and so far the pair were still waiting for a response. Zaq then pressed on the doorbell and waited some more. Eventually the pair heard someone moving about on the other side, before the door was finally opened and on the other side was Zaq’s dad. The middle-aged man definitely looked like he’s seen better days, his usually groomed hair is all shaggy, his eyes has some heavy bags under them, and by the smell…it would appear that he’s been smoking. Heavily. After a second or two of noticing who was at the door, Zaq’s dad developed a very sour expression while also giving a very annoyed sigh.

“Great. As if dealing with ponies at work, and dealing with ponies officials wasn't bad enough…my son is back—” the middle-aged man groaned as he glared down at Misty, who hid behind Zaq. “With her.” Zaq stood in front of his dad with stern look on his face.

“What are you doing here Zaq?” the older man says in a dry and tired voice as he leans on the door frame, while giving his son a disappointed expression.

“I came to talk to you, and mom. Maybe see if we can put this whole ‘You hate my girlfriend because she’s not human’ behind us, especially with ponies starting to come to Earth.” Zaq said as he places a hand on Misty’s head, encouraging her to come on out.

“Bill! Whose at the door?” The two heard a woman call out from somewhere in the house, before the sight of Zaq’s mom Madison came walking around the corner. Who also developed the same sour look as her husband, when she saw who was at the door. “Oh…it’s you.”

“Hey mom.” Zaq said in a somewhat pleasant tone, trying to be respectable.

“What are you doing here?” Madison said as she crosses her arms, and stood before her son and Misty in a straighten up pose, like what a high corporate boss would stand as she reprimands an underling.

“He came to talk to us about putting the issue of his, girlfriend, behind us because of the change in the times.” Bill says to his wife as if it was a joke.

“Can we at least talk inside, instead of just standing at the door?” Zaq said to his parents, as he points to the small crowed of people starting to give them weird looks.

The parents decided to allow Zaq and Misty to enter the house. When Zaq entered the house, a sense of nostalgia started to waft over him, as the building was brining up old comforting memories of his childhood. As for Misty Moon the home was also brining up pleasant memories, as it was the place she found her best friend, and mate, but the mood was lost after a moment as she also remembered that this was also the house that Zaq’s parents tossed him out of. And it was because she loved the human. The group made it to the living room, where the parents took the couch, while Zaq sat on the recliner with Misty climbing up onto his lap, which caused the couple to groan internally.

“So, what do you want talk to us about?” Bill says to his son as he leans against the couch.

“We came to see if you two would lighten up on Misty, and accept the fact that we’re—”

“What?” Madison interrupted. “That you two are in an immoral relationship?”

“What’s wrong with Zaq and me being together?” Misty questioned as her tail and wings flicked, and flapped in irritation.

“Well there is the fact that you are a, PONY!” Bill half-shouted, causing the mare to flinch back, where Zaq wrapped a protective arm around her. “A talking bat pony at that! And the fact that you made our son choose an equine for a partner, rather than a normal human girl.”

“Dad just because Misty isn’t human, doesn’t mean she’s less of a partner for someone to have.” Zaq argued back. “Also with your connection to city hall, you should know that after the negotiations we did, that ponies would be coming over to our world.”

“It’s still unnatural Zaq.” Madison quickly responded to Zaq’s claim.

“I still don’t see how me not being human is a bad thing?” Misty says, actually starting to feel hurt that Zaq’s parents are so against her, and Zaq being a couple. “I mean we both love each other, and our physical differences doesn’t bother us.”

“Maybe not to you ponies, but for us humans…its just not natural.” Bill repeated, trying to get his point across.

“Dad, mom I know this is not normal by usual human standards, and maybe it isn’t natural because Misty isn’t human.” Zaq said which actually seem to make his parents smile a little, thinking that Zaq was coming to his senses. Even Misty looked surprised.

“But she’s not a normal pony that just, trots around eating hay, or doesn’t even talk. She’s a person, who can think and interact with others just like people, and she has feelings that a normal person as much as us, and you two need to accept that. Not to mention, things are changing…” Zaq said sternly as he continues on, his parents actually listening fully to what he’s saying.

“We’re no longer alone in this universe, and as more ponies come to Earth either for a visit, or even permanently move here, ponies are going to be part of Earth’s format sooner than later. And before you know it…some ponies and humans might do what Misty and I have, be an interspecies couple.”

Zaq then wrapped both arms around Misty’s neck, who used her wings to cover them while nuzzling into them. after the two held each other for a brief moment, Zaq then gave his parents a determined look, who looked back with a more thoughtful and, appeared to be reconsidering they’re view. Given everything that Zaq has just said.

“And if you can’t accept that this is the path I choose in life, and be apart of it with me and Misty…” Zaq then held his grip more tightly around Misty, who sensed his own growing dismay, and used a hoof to stroke his arm under her wing. “Then well just go on living our lives as we’ve had for the last two-n-half years.”

The room fell into a perpetual silence, as Zaq leaves his words hanging in the air, allowing his parents to absorb them in and think over their response. And it seems that both Madison and Bill were really going over what their son has just said. It’s true that eventually ponies will become part of the social norm, and…like their son, might be drawn into a relationship. As the older couple take their time in deciding what to do, Zaq and Misty just waited for their response, which Zaq is hoping that they’ll accept these fact and be willing to actually give Misty a chance.

Speaking of Misty, she herself is also really nervous. After living on Earth for three years, and learning of the human social structure as well as their stance of interspecies relationships, she understands that Zaq’s parents are acting like this because they don’t want their son to have a difficult future, in case he’s ridiculed for his decision in being with a non-human. But with everything that Zaq has just said, hopefully they’ll see that things will change, and they won’t have to worry about him. a minute goes by and the room was still quiet, until Zaq speaks up.

“So, what’s your decision?” both Bill and Madison looked at each other, almost looking defeated before they looked over to their son and Misty.

“…I don’t know if we can fully accept this son.” Both Misty and Zaq were about to ask why, but Madison continued before they get a chance to cut her off.

“But, if your willing to give us a second chance, we’ll try.” Bill agreed with his wife as they both give the younger couple a small, sincere smile. Both Zaq and Misty returned the smile, and actually got off the chair and gave the older couple a hug, who returned the gesture in turn.

For the rest of the day Zaq and Misty spent the day at the young mans old house, catching up with both Madison and Bill, and even telling them of what they’ve been up to for the past three years. From Zaq being brought in as an actual ambassador, being able to go to Equestria and have their own little adventures, and even meeting Misty Moon’s family recently before coming back to Earth. After a couple of hours have gone by, and the family actually seemed to be what it was before Zaq and Misty were kicked out, the young couple left the house to head home, and as they left both Bill and Madison watched them leave in Zaq’s car.

“Do you really think things will be fine honey?” Madison asked her husband as the car leaves the street.

“I don’t know.” Bill says as he re-enters the building. “I just hope things actually turn out the way Zaq predicted.”
