Trixie Signs Twilight's Friendship Contract

The night had completely blanketed Ponyville, and just outside of town, Trixie was busy pitching her caravan. She huffed, standing just outside her window, and looked around while smelling the cool, breezy evening air. Her surroundings seemed clear enough, and all she could hear were the peaceful, chirping birds in the trees above her.

"Lousy birds," she remarked aloud before heading inside.

Looking around her room, and admiring her belongings while closing and locking the door, Trixie began recalling the recent events she had gone through. On one hoof, she was more than happy to apologize to Twilight, but on the other, she nevertheless felt embarrassed. She felt this way not only because she had to apologize, but also because she had been bested once more. "That lousy..."

With words of hatred loosely hanging from her tongue, she briefly swallowed her bitterness away, and said, "No, Trixie... You shouldn't behave this way." Although, the spontaneous memory of Twilight taking her sweet time to forgive Trixie made her writhe for just a second. Afterwards, she voiced loudly, "Mmh, wh- why does she... Who... Who does she think she is?" Trixie groaned, "Had Trixie not been duped the way she was... she would've-"

Trixie was cut off by a sharp, and sudden, light rapping coming from the door. As quickly as the short series of knocks had started, they stopped for only a slight second, and then two more knocks followed. This time, they seemed gentler, and softer, so Trixie began reaching for the doorknob.

She stopped, and asked before proceeding, "Who... is it?"

At first, there didn't seem to be an answer, but soon, Trixie heard a faint voice coming from the other side. "May I come in?"

Trixie's heart sank. It was the very pony that Trixie was in the middle of bad-mouthing.

"Twilight... Sparkle?" Trixie asked timidly, "Is that you?"

The door opened, and Twilight waved slowly while saying, "Hi, Trixie... Sorry for bothering you at this time of night, but... well, you left in such a hurry, I didn't really have time to give you a proper good-bye!"

Trixie was startled, but said, "Trixie wasn't expecting company! And she left in a hurry because she wanted her grand exit to be... well, grand and dramatic... You being here right now sort of ruins it, Sparkle... However, she appreciates you coming to officially see her off."

Twilight giggled and rolled her eyes as she entered. "I just wanted to make sure that there weren't any more hard feelings between us. We've, uh... sort of had a bumpy start thus far."

Trixie agreed, "Hopefully, from now on," she boasted, "I, the Great and Powerful Trixie shall learn some humility, and we'll be the best of friends!"

Twilight was looking around and listened to what the show mare had to say. Soon after the silence, she came up to a table within the room. "I, uh... h-have something for you."

A loose scroll of parchment was slowly placed upon its wooden surface, and Trixie looked from the table to Twilight, and asked curiously, "What... might it be?"

She smiled due to the thought of it possibly being some sort of gift, like the deed to land, or a house. It couldn't be further from a generous present, though.

While Trixie opened it up slowly, and read, Twilight spoke, "This is, uh... I think necessary given the events that you were... y'know, involved in." She cleared her throat. "It's just security."

Trixie lowered the paper with an odd look about her. "Wait... This... is... a..." She looked up at Twilight, and asked, "It's a f-f-friendship... contract...?"

Twilight nodded, and tried to explain, "This way, me and my friends... and for that matter, all of Ponyville won't have to worry about you being a threat ever again."

Trixie breathed and just looked back down at the words that were in front of her. "Because... I signed a silly contract?" She couldn't believe this.

One of the lines read, "By putting the whole world in danger, I, Twilight Sparkle cannot be your friend unless you solemnly swear officially to never do any harm to anypony ever again."

Twilight decided to break the silence by asking, "Please... would you, uh, just sign here... a-and there..."

Trixie walked away from the table for only a moment with her jaw agape and returned with a feathered pen. She looked up, and showed Twilight her glossy, glistening eyes, and yet, not a single tear escaped. She held it in like the true show mare that she was.

"Sure, Twilight Sparkle..." She only sniffled, and then resumed saying, "I'll sign your... s-stupid friendship contract... so that you can trust me." Twilight noticed that she had stopped talking in third person. Trixie shrugged, and lied, "I don't care..."

She grimly smiled.

"If this is what it's going to take... to truly prove myself to you... to all of them... I'll sign, but..."

Twilight felt a new void in her chest.

"This wasn't necessary... and I think you know it."

All Twilight could do was watch as the ink stained the dotted lines. Trixie then swiftly hoofed the scroll back to Twilight, and said, "There... I did it... Now, please... could you leave me alone for a bit...? Just... get out!"

She forced Twilight through the door, and Twilight stumbled on the steps for a bit. She then looked back down at the contract and sighed with gloom. "Guess... this wasn't such a good idea after all..." She chanted, followed by a few knocks, "Trixie? Trixie!"

The door reopened, and Trixie asked, "What?" She held in her hoof a tissue which she had been using to wipe her cheeks with. "I signed, so you can just-"

She paused and saw Twilight holding the scroll by her magic. She tore it in two, and then ignited the pieces into a small bundle of flames.

Trixie asked Twilight, "Why... did you do that?"

Twilight responded, "I don't even know what I was thinking in the first place... Making you sign that contract really was idiotic of me. Trixie? I need you to know that I trust you, and likewise, you should be able to trust me, too. That wasn't the way to do it." She bowed her head with a fair amount of shame, and said, "Sorry, Trixie... Is there any way that you could forgive me?"

Trixie smiled, and relaxed Twilight by sighing, "Of course Trixie forgives you, Twilight."
