At the Top of the Staircase...

You took the last step.
And just like that, you were back. Back here, at the top of those four flights. At one point, you thought you'd never do that again, and you hoped it too, but here you were.
You turned and grasped the railing in your hands, and looked down that little in-between area all staircases have, that one spot where you could see all the way down to the bottom. You weren't looking though, you were thinking.
You just walked back in, right back into the old building. You said hello to your old friends like it was nothing; and they said hello back, completely oblivious the chronological whiplash you were experiencing.
You had spent nine years in Equestria. Nine whole years, and you were back here, the same day, like it never even happened.
You knew you weren't crazy though. It did happen, it wasn't a dream or anything, you just weren't that creative, even while dreaming.
You were there from day one. You got to see it all. All by accident, of course, you were run out of Ponyville for the initial meet, but that's neither here nor there.
After the whole Nightmare Moon thing? That's when it took off, you got to meet THE Twilight Sparkle. You got to live in Ponyville. You got to talk to the princesses, heck you got to see Derpy in all her glory, and come the morning of every day, you would step outside, breath the air, and think you were lucky. That this was the best thing that ever happened to you, and yeah, it kinda was.
You made the best friends anyone could ever ask for, and while you're not keen to admit it, even to yourself, you may have fallen in love like the human always did in those cheesy fan fictions you used to read. Hah, You weren't going to need those anymore. You had your memories.
And you were going to cherish the hell out of those memories too. Every great moment was yours to remember forever. Every party Pinkie threw, all those clothes Rarity made, those games you always played with Applejack and Rainbow Dash. All those quiet moments with Fluttershy, and every time Twilight Sparkle came to you ranting about what she found in her new book. Every time they smiled, you would never forget those smiles, you would never forget those memories. Even the not so great ones. All those times Twilight lost it over something small, every time Applejack was stubborn, every time Rarity was snobbish when Rainbow Dash was full of herself when Fluttershy was scared, and whenever Pinkie was, well Pinkie.
You got to be there. To be with them, to hear their voices, and for them to hear yours.
Even the day it ended. That was important to you too.
Sure you knew it was going to happen then (and you didn't tell them, you just didn't have the heart for it) but it didn't make it any less valuable to you. You loved them, all of them, not just the main six, but everypony you met. It was a dream come true.
Reality came knocking though, so here you were. Standing at the top of the staircase. The (not)dream over; and you were supposedly back where you belonged. Whatever magic whositwhatsit that got you there, sent you back when Twilight finally left for Canterlot and went through with her coronation. You weren't even sad when it was happening. You were just so proud of her. You remember their laughs about the whole fiasco once it was over. You remember laughing too.
You knew it was going to end. Twilight sorta figured out the magic like you knew she would. That little rascal.
And so that was that, and it was over. Now you were back here. At this staircase. This darned four flighted monster of a staircase that you would have to climb every morning at 7:35. You may have not liked this particular staircase, but that wasn't really the point was it? You weren't missing anything, you didn't lose what you had.
And you realized that you weren't lucky. You just had a different perspective (okay, you were lucky) But so was everyone else. All those people who watched the show? Everyone who waited on the edge of their seat for the season premieres? They were lucky, but a lot of them were missing it. They didn't need to meet the main six or be their friends. Not when they already were.
Not when they had the show. Everyone got to watch as Twilight and co. grew, and changed. Everyone got to see every challenge they faced, and cheer when they overcame. You didn't need to be there, because you had their memories, you had their smiles, you knew the lessons and we all have their story.
In your mind. That's all you needed.
"Hey, Anon? You okay?"
You turned to your side to see your friend from nine years ago looking at you with concern. You locked eyes, and you stared for a moment, those nine years coming to bear as you thought about the life you had lived.
You grin the biggest grin physically possible. Pinkie would've been proud.
"Oh yeah. I'm fantastic"
And as you turn and walk off with to reacquaint yourself with your friend, ready to get back into the swing of things, you have one thought.
Time to make some friends.
So with the lessons of My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic, engraved in your heart. You vowed to make the world a friendlier place. You vowed to bring smiles, to be generous, and to be loyal. You vowed not to lie, and to always be kind. You vowed to spread The Magic of Friendship to anyone, and everyone you could.
So you walked away to start a new story, and away from the end of this story, or well...
Away from The Top of the Staircase.
