chapter 1: To Know A Cold, So Cold It Kill’s.

“Walking, Why am i always walking?”
The cold wind strike’s my face but i don’t care. I have walked for fourteen hours straight but I don’t care. I have new found motive. I got a lead to her. My last living flesh and blood and I'm going to find her.
Stopping at a small cliff that overlooks the everfree forest in the moonlight, And in the distance the traveler can make out the small town of ponyville.
“The night sky, the cold wind nipping at my face. the only sound is of my breathing. (sigh) Bring’s back a mix of good and bad memory’s.”
“I need to stop talking to myself, Someone may walk up and think i'm crazy one day...”
After thinking this i chuckle at my own brand of dark humor. But something is nagging at the back of my mind...
“How the Hell do i get down from here?”
Ya i am a Pegasus. But i lack required tool, And the tool I’m missing is my other wing. but that’s what happens from time to time. You get careless and lose your self. And look you can't fly no more. But i beat myself up on that enough to know never to let my guard down until i KNOW I’m safe. But I’m not that stallion no more. I’m only 25 and i have enough bit’s for the rest of my life, well if I don’t i can always find a nice stable job. Hopefully. But back to the problem at hand. Getting down. But how in the Hell did i get up here in the first place?
Can't fly, Can't jump, Cant teleport... Well maybe i can try out that trick a adrenaline junky earth pony showed me back in Manehattan.
After that little mental checklist. I got to work on setting up the rig that was going to help me get down from this Mountain and clear a ton of distance between here and Ponyville. And i wanted to try the thing ever since Manehattan anyways.
As I’m setting up the contraption, As well trying to remember what that’s earth pony called it. I start to draw a sweat. My now damp onyx black coat glistened a little in the light of the full moon. I loved the adventure, I loved the never ending excitement. But I need to settle down. Find a home. And do one thing, Be happy. After about 20 min's of putting together the hang glider. It finally came together, And looked right.
“This is either one going to fail horribly and kill me, Or two it’s going to work, Or three its going to
work and fail horribly somewhere in between takeoff and landing.”
“Me i'm putting hope on option two...”
So after strapping myself into the glider’s harness system. I grabbed the bar with my mouth and did something crazy...
I ran...
I ran full bore at the edge of the cliff, And at the edge of it I gave a small leap...
Thankfully the glider work’s... So far.
And I am a Pegasus so me being lighter should make it so i glide a lot farther. But gliding in the night sky. with the cold wind nipping at me face yet again. And the wondrous night sky above me. I started to drift. This was bringing back an old memory. One i was for sure i was never going to see unless i was dreaming.
======================POV: 3rd Person flashback======================
A small filly lay in a basket. All bundled up to keep the newly born warm and protect it for the cold weather. The mare that is holding the basket is crying, For some reason it’s about the filly. She walked up to a rather large building only a few lights are on. There is playground equipment, And other things on the off side of the building. As the mare gets closer she begins to weep more and more. Louder, And more openly. As if she doesn't care about her public view anymore. Whatever was on her mind was really bugging her. As she finally makes it to the building she placed the basket filled with the bundle of joy down on a stone step and pin’s a note to the side. After she pin’s the note she knocked on the door loudly three times and-and...run’s? Why? Why is she running away. She left the poor filly their! Why!? Why leave!?
=========================POV: Dark Sky now========================
All i can think is one word.
Mom...
Mom i love you. But why?
=======================POV: Dark sky as a filly in flashback===================
After a short time the door creaked open to reveal a old stallion. His mane and tail is gray and his body is old and defined. He is very built pony but most earth pony’s are. His coat is a dark brown. On his flank is a hammer pounding in a nail to some wood. As he looked around, Not seeing the basket. He almost closes the door. Probably thinking it’s some local prankster’s who think it’s funny to ding dong ditch an old stallion. But then he hears some noise. the noise of giggling.
The old stallion reopens the door to its fullest and look’s down to see... Me. My black coat and yellow tail and mane with some of the prettiest blue eye’s you have ever seen. Almost like staring into a sea. Where the water never move’s and is still and looks of glass.
He merely stared at me for a moment before saying. “Babe... Come here.”
Soon a mare about equal age to the stallion. Walked up behind him and asked.
“what’s the matter dear?”
Before the old stallion can answer she spots me in the basket. Not even thinking twice about it. she hurried over grabbing the basket and brings me inside the home. The old stallion close’s the door and the flashback begins the fade. But before i snap out of it i remember... A smell... A smell of muffin’s.
=======================POV: Dark Sky now==========================
After recalling that old memory I snapped back to the world. But the world had other plan’s.
About 2 hour’s had passed and i was feeling a chill down my spine. It was cold, Very cold. I was about half thru the everfree forest. And was making excellent time! The forest from this angel was stunning to look at. The moon was starting to rest on the horizon. And the world below... It did not remind me of the fabled everfree, But that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it. So instead of scary and scream’s of death for all who enter. It looks peaceful and is a wonderful sight.
“At this rate... I should be at ponyville by sun up.”
But one problem i was losing altitude and fast. I was probably only 50 feet from the ground. And only 15 feet from the tree top’s of most of the tree’s.
“I need to land this fast...”
Luckily I spotted a clearing about 100 feet or so in the distance, I should be ok. But the world like’s to drop me on my head, A lot.
“I’m almost there... 40 more feet to go... 30 … 20 almo-”
At this point my left foreleg hit a branch going at a good speed. And from the pain. And the bone sticking out. I must of broke it. Yay logic. But all i can say at a time like that is...
“FUCK ME SIDEWAYS UP A TREE!”
Now landing was a bit more than eventful. Because landing a glider with only 3 hoof’s and a broken one, While trying to keep off of it. Ya let’s leave that out. All i can say is it involves a lot of cursing, Yelling, Pain, More cursing, And end’s with a not reusable glider.
Luckily I made it out and my backpack is still with me. I know I'm a rebel. I like backpack’s over saddlebags. deal with it.
And as I’m limping away from my former hang glider, All i can thank is.
“Fuck you. Option three...”
I was bleeding all over the place, And the blood loss was making me cold again.
“I hate the cold now.” Mumbling to myself in a angry tone.
I limped a good mile before fatigue was starting to take it’s toll. I was getting dizzy and was about to pass out. I was so cold to. I knew if I’m not going to strike it lucky and get some help. I’m as good as dead. But then i got lucky.
I made it out of the everfree and laid my eyes on ponyville in the distance. But that’s all I did before I blacked out. And collapsed on the spot.
