Tirailleur, Late War
PROVENCE, PRANCE
AUTUMN, 1944
the battle to retake Europe is underway.
After Operation Overlord's bloody victory, Operation Dragoon begins a deadly incision from Prance's southern coastline.
500K allied troops from around the globe advance through a country that has known occupation for half a decade.
The enemy is prepared.
Although stretched thin and poorly supplied,
German fortification and artillery dominate the landscape.
He will fight for every roadblock and strongpoint.
Berlin is 1,500 km away....
“He’s at the 25-10!-“
“We interrupt this broadcast to bring you an important bulletin from the Equestrian Press. Flash, Canterlot.” The reporter interrupts the whole stadium.
“Mom?.” The boy says
“The Canterlot Senate announces Changeling Attack on Pearl Harbor, stay tuned to WOR Station for further updates.”
“It’s ok honey... th-“ The mom gets interrupted.
ENN Headquarters
“This is ENN in Equis calling Honolulu, go ahead, Honolulu....” I speak into the microphone.
No answer.
“This is ENN in Equis calling Honolulu Go ahead Honolulu...” I say again.
Again...
“Go ahead, Honolulu.” I say
“We shall like to contact Marenia, the Capital of the Filyilippiene Commonwealth... Go ahead Manila.” I then wait....
We regret that we were not able to contact Marenilla or Honolulu, we return you to our Reporter in Ponyville.
“Look at them”
“Brave Prench Solders, ready to die for their country.”
“They were Hero’s, all of them.”
“But they were not the only ones who fought..”
“I’m going to tell you a story...”
“.....that you don’t know....”
Colonial Tirailleur
We walked out of our Transport ship and looked eagerly at the Southern Prench City around us.
“Zane! I see they got desperate enough to send you here!” Zane laughed.
“They told me that they needed me to kick out the Griffons because you were to old and weak”. I reply.
As we got in line, we walked, and walked until we reached out Transport Vehicles.
“Thank you.” I said to solder helping me and my brother up. He nodded and sat back down
As we were driving through the town, people shot us a look of distrust and were saddened by the site of us seemed to worry them. I shrugged it off.
We were saying: “We’re Praench!! We’re Prench!”
But once we got to Prance...
“.....We found out how Prench we really were..”
We drived and drived untill we reached our post....
At our post I stopped and looked around. Suddenly a fellow French solder grabbed my gun and another gave me shovel.
I looked at Zane and he just motioned to follow.
As nightfall occurred, we found ourselfs a constructing a trench system while the... others... advanced,
“How long are we going to be here?” I asked Jafari.
“Until it’s done.” He answered.
“This is it?” I respond
“This is all we do?” I then say.
“Look. Things here are..... different.” Jafari responds in a sad voice.
At that time, the Prench were throwing everything they had at a heavily fortified German château
And when all else failed, our young Captain volunteered us, to take a shot to take out a surrounding German AA gun Emplacement.
.........
You won’t find my story I’m going to tell you in the history books. That makes you disbelieve my words. But remember, not everything that’s written down is true, and not everything true is written down.
“Hey, hey!” Jafari got my attention. “Keep your head clear, and don’t play the hero.”
As we approached the point where we would launch the assault, 2 enemy planes approached us.
“1 o’clock high! Where is our air support??!“ a solder complained.
2 bombs fell of 2 vehicles in the convoy, blowing them up.
As we jumped out, someone asked for orders.
“Where do we go? Do we move Together?”
“Be Brave, Have Courage!” reply.
As we approached the enemy lines, 2 machine guns opened up on our men, taking 2 out.
“I see them! Germans incoming!”
I killed 2 Germans and as I charged with my Chauchat bush to bush, the orange leaves shine with sunlight.
“Jafari!” My brother calls out “make sure that the-“ he is stopped by the roars of our men charging.
As they charge the enemy MG nest is taken out by the swarm of soldiers. As we charged the enemy quickly fell back with the troopers they had...
As everyone took cover mid way through the entrenched outpost, we stood in the middle of a valley, as everyone looked for a way out, the wall starts to erupt with gunfire, a massive battle cry was quickly put down by machine guns..
As we took cover, a single plane, an american A 20 Havoc, smashes the enemys defenses and we move up the side as it is shot down.
"poor pilot..."
As i move up the side, 2 machine gunners stood there, they were both shot by Jafari, who made sure all enemys were clear from this position.
"ROCKET!"
I was ableto get out of the blast radius, i was merely left with a ringing in my ear, other were not so lucky.. What i say that day... the rocket had hit 2 solders, who were both dead with blood and limbs spilled across 3 meters from me.
"Zane," Jafari checks up on me. "are you alright?!?!"
"yes, i wasnt hit by the blast"
"good"
I move to the bunker and take cover inside where i soon gather myself and go outside.
as soon as i enter i see 10 enemys walking up to their front, i take aim and shoot.
The last 3 standing surrender to us.
I look to the bunker as I enter once again
I find a collectable, "Mothers and Sons", interesting.
The remaining enemy solders bleed out, i picked up one of their guns, a MP 40.
we soon made our way to a wall of defenses, our only cover are tank barriers.
"The scale of this war can make you feel like nothing. Another ant, another body to crushed."
A American Tank came to the aid of us.
A German solder behind cover next to a friendly machine gunner witnessed 3 of our men cut down, but as he looked up again, he sees his fellow solders yelling and running away.
“Fire!”
The scale of the war can make you feel like nothing. Another ant, another body to be crushed.
The rockets from nearby planes hammered the enemy positions, our captain ordered a charge.
“You tell yourself, I am not that. I am Zane. I am Zane. And May Our Equestrian Allies and our Prench brothers help us...”
I ran valiantly with my MP38/40 to the Dragons Teeth anti tank fortifications, the noise never ending.
I count my rounds in my gun
24
I take one magazine out and refilled each individual round, a tedious process.
From cover to cover, explosion after explosion, I made my way up to an American tank after it was destroyed. Metal and steel fall everywhere, but I am ok somehow.
“Who decides such things”
I grabbed my Chauchat,
3 rounds to the chest of an enemy at and in the open.
3 of our men had dug a shallow trench that we used to cover while we were suppressing the enemy, our machine guns were the best of the best
“An opening! Go!” A friend two I recognized as Idrissa, yelled. Me and him go way back, as friends in primary school we would always get into trouble.
We charge through gunfire, to our certain deaths, I find myself near enemy fortified lines, a perfect chance to Flank them. I regain my composure and run at full speed and as I go up the small hill, I look to my right.
2 enemy completely unaware of my presence,
As I approach, one turns around
I shoot them both from the hip.
Reload
One is aiming at
“Put your hooves up” the axis soldier says to me.
Jafari rushes up and shoots the axis soldier
“Zane! Are you alright?” He nearly screams.
“I’ll live,” I reply “but we still need to take the main forts.”
We hear a massive battle cry as over 100 soldiers charge as our Chauchatd destroy a enemy flame troop.
“Last magazine in my Chauchat Jafari”. I yelled.
He looks to a MG34 with a drum 75 round mag, then to me.
“Fine”
As I grab the gun, the immense weight makes me only able to do a light jog as I grab 3 more drums.
“- enemy’s on the right side! We need a support!”
Me and jafari move into position and both run and gun. The weight allowed me to keep the gun to my stomach as it sprayed and I prayed it would hit something. Lucky for us the retreating Germans were in the open.
We also had the high ground, which as I know, is very important....
From Dragoon to this.
It was horrific, this war was
The only reason I got through was for Prance
“Go Go Go” a Sergeant screams.
I take cover behind a German tank that was destroyed by rockets.
The tank somehow held 3 men inside, at least alive.
2 were on fire, the other without his left fore hoof,
I almost threw up, but held it in and..
Shot them in cold blood, for what they did to my comrades, my friends, my family,
And what they did to Prance.
I moved up past no mans land and crouched with Jafari and 3 other soldiers in the line of dirty orange grass.
I take the position nearing the edge if enemy fortification, the far left side, as I move up, I am fired upon, 2 men go down, not me, or jafari, strangely....
I guess fate is with us.
Oh how wrong I was, I would later find out.
As we pushed, the MG fire stoped.
