Love Story
Sunlight at Dusk
Load Full StoryNext ChapterTwo college seniors walked down the beach barefoot just as the sun was lowering over the horizon. The sky was painted in beautiful oranges and purples and dark blues. It looked like something out of a fairy tale.
Twilight gripped Sunset’s hand tighter as they walked. It was late spring and they were just about to graduate from UCLA and USC respectively.
They had been living together since junior year and they wouldn’t have it any other way. The short drive to the beach made the longer drive to each of their schools from the condo they rented worth it. Not to mention they were only a few hours drive away from Canterlot, so they could go back and see Twilight’s family and their friends whenever they were in town.
“It’s so beautiful out here. I love the beach. I always wanna live near the beach,” Twilight marveled, looking up as stars slowly began to show herself. Sunset nodded.
Twilight pulled Sunset over closer to the water where the tide was rolling in. The foaming sea water washed up over her bare feet, sandals abandoned farther up the beach. Sunset stood behind her, arms wrapped around her waist as she rested her chin on Twilight’s shoulder.
Twilight adjusted her glasses. They were a different frame than what she wore in high school, but still were black with small silver gems on the corners. She leaned into Sunset’s embrace, resting her hands on Sunset’s.
After a few minutes, Twilight spotted something shiny down in the sand. She reached down to grab it just as the waves rolled away from it.
“Look, a seashell.” She held up the seashell. It was a beautiful blend of orange and purple. Twilight had never seen a seashell that color. It matched the sky perfectly.
“Sunset, it looks like us!!” Twilight spun around and dropped the seashell to the ground, her eyes filling with tears.
Sunset, who was down on one knee, held out a velvet purple box. Inside was a beautiful diamond ring, silver and sparkling.
“Twilight, I loved you for as long as I can remember. Since I pulled you out the sky, I knew that there was something special between us. There’s no other person in any world that I would want to spend my life with. You’re caring and smart and beautiful, you’re perfect in every way.” Sunset took a deep breath, smiling at Twilight in earnest.
“Twilight Sparkle, will you marry me?”
In that moment, it felt like time stopped. The tears spilled over Twilight’s eyes as she looked between the ring and Sunset’s smiling face. She too was starting to cry.
“Yes! Yes, a million times yes!”
Sunset carefully slid the ring onto Twilight’s left ring finger, pulling her into a celebratory kiss. Twilight melted into it, a huge smile on her face.
“I love you, so much. I couldn’t ask for a better fiancee,” Twilight said as they broke apart.
“I love you too, more than anything here or in Equestria.”
The two smiled at each other. Twilight pulled away to inspect the ring.
“It’s so pretty.” She held it up in the sky, catching the last rays of sunlight as they glinted off the diamond.
“Just like you.” Sunset smiled, lightly tapping her nose.
Twilight beamed, grabbing Sunset back into another hug.
“We’ll always be together, right?” Twilight looked up at Sunset just as the sun finally set over the horizon. The stars twinkled above them as they held each other.
“Of course, baby. I’m never going to let anything bad happen to you, that’s a promise.” Sunset lightly nuzzled the top of Twilight’s head.
“A pinkie promise?” Twilight held up her pinkie on her left hand. Sunset smiled.
“A pinkie promise,” Sunset confirmed, locking her pinkie in with Twilight’s. They shook on it before Twilight spun around to look out across the ocean. She leaned back on her now fiancee, letting her head rest on her chest.
“Just three more weeks, then we get to spend the rest of our lives together.” Sunset murmured, holding onto Twilight tightly.
“And I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
Author's Note
Starting with a bang!

These are the glasses I imagine Twilight wearing through college, but add some silver rhinestones on the corners above the eyes. After each chapter I will provide visual aids for references throughout the chapter, including clothes and such. I already have the girls' wedding dresses in mind ![]()
