A Reunion of Besties
Previous ChapterNext Chapter“Do you think we should tell them first thing?”
Twilight sat in the passenger seat on Sunset’s car as they drove into their hometown, slowly cruising down the streets and towards the chapel Pinkie had rented out for their huge “We made it!” party.
“If you want to,” Sunset said, reaching over and taking Twilight’s right hand in her left.
“I think I wanna wait until someone points it out. This is our college graduation party, not our engagement party.” Twilight giggled to herself, glancing down at the ring on her finger. From the backseat of the car, Spike voiced his agreement.
Soon they found the chapel and parked the car. As they climbed out intertwined their hands. Twilight let Spike out of the car, waiting for him to find a nice bush to pee in before they went inside. Sunset locked the car as they walked up the steps, Spike trailing behind. Sunset went to open the door but was instead greeted with Pinkie’s ecstatic face as she pulled it open instead.
“Twilight! Sunset! Come on in!” The pink woman was just as bubbly as she was in high school and welcomed the duo with open arms. She pulled them into a hug before dragging them off to where she had set up the party.
Twilight spotted Rainbow Dash and Applejack talking across the room and Rarity organizing the snack table.
“We’re just missing Fluttershy! She said she got caught up in traffic. Ooh! And someone special,” Pinkie said, winking at the last part as she bounced over to Rarity. She picked up a cup of punch and handed it to Sunset. Sunset and Twilight exchanged a look, but otherwise said nothing.
“How is this? I tried adding pineapple juice to my recipe. Rarity says it’s too sweet but Rainbow says it needs more cranberry juice.”
Sunset took a sip, tasting the unnatural purplish-red colored drink.
“Hmm, what all is in this?”
“One cup of cranberry juice, two cups of grape juice, half a cup of pineapple juice, and a cup of apple juice,” Pinkie listed off.
“It’s surprisingly not bad, good job Pinkie!” Sunset handed the cup to Twilight for her to taste. Twilight nodded in agreement.
“Could use less apple juice. It’s a little overpowering,” she said. Pinkie whipped out her phone and jotted down the critique in her notepad.
They heard a car pull up into the parking lot and Pinkie ran off, saying something about going to greet Fluttershy. Twilight and Sunset look at each other, sharing a giggle.
“So darlings, how was your graduation?” Rarity asked, walking up to the two.
“Mine was outdoors in the hot California sun. Talk about miserable,” Sunset crossed her arms and glared at the floor. Rarity laughed and Twilight shuddered at the memory.
“It was actually great, Twilight’s was worse though,” Sunset looked back up.
“It was not!” Twilight objected.
“You weren’t the one who had to hold your bratty niece for five hours.” Sunset rolled her eyes and Twilight narrowed her eyes at Sunset playfully.
Twilight giggled, rolling her eyes in response.
Pinkie suddenly came bouncing back in, Fluttershy walking next to her and a taller boy on her arm.
“Flutters!” Rainbow called, walking up with Applejack. Fluttershy waved, walking over and giving Rainbow a huge hug.
“Ooh who’s the boy?” Rarity inquired. Pinkie looked ready to burst with excitement.
“This-” Pinkie gestured grandly to the boy, “- is Cheese Sandwich. My boyfriend.” She demonstrated by pecking him on the cheek. He returned the affection, nuzzling the top of her poofy hair.
“Eeee! Twilight squealed. Sunset smiled widely and the other three nodded in approval.
“I assume these are the lovely girls you’ve told me so much about?” Cheese asked, scanning each girl up and down.
“Yes! This is Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, Rarity, Sunset Shimmer, and Twilight Sparkle,” she motioned to each girl as they were introduced, each one giving a wave and a smile to Cheese in response.
As Twilight waved, the ring on her finger caught the light. Pinkie suddenly stopped, eyes lasering in on the shiny light. She ran up to Twilight, grabbing her wrist and turning her hand over to look at the stone.
“NO WAY!” She exclaimed. All the others gathered around, confused.
“You got engaged!!” Rarity almost spit out the punch she was drinking, grabbing Twilight’s hand to get a closer look. Sunset stood a little bit behind them, arms crossed over her chest and smirking. Cheese came up to get a closer look too.
“It’s beautiful,” Fluttershy gushed. All the other girls gave their compliments, oohing and aahing at her new ring.
“How’d you do it?” Rainbow asked, looking up towards Sunset. She smiled.
“At the beach just between Sunset and Twilight.” Sunset could hardly contain the excitement on her face. She had tried to act nonchalantly, but she was over the moon with happiness.
“Oh it must have been amazing,” Fluttershy marveled. Rarity nodded in agreement.
“I’m sure it was perfect,” she said.
“It was,” Twilight breathed, recalling the very fond memory.
“And just ta’ think this time five years er’go Twilight was head over heels for Timber Spruce,” Applejack said, looking between the newly engaged couple.
Twilight blushed, recalling her fling with Timber. It had only lasted a few months. It had been fun, but her feelings for Sunset had been so much stronger. The two of them just hadn’t worked out. They couldn’t have when she was in love with someone else.
“Where are you going to have the wedding?” Cheese asked. Sunset and Twilight looked at each other.
“We actually haven’t given it much thought. It’s only been a month,” Sunset said. Twilight nodded.
“Can I plan it? Can I plan it!?” Pinkie asked, bouncing up and down.
“Of course you can, Pinkie.” Twilight assured her.
“Oh! What about Camp Everfree?” Rainbow asked.
“Camp Everfree? Why there, darling?” Rarity asked. Rainbow shrugged.
“I dunno, it just seemed like a nice place. You could get married on the dock we built, take pictures in the forest, and have the party in the Crystal Cave.” Rainbow explained.
Twilight looked back at her fiancee with puppy dog eyes. “Babe, can we have our wedding at Camp Everfree? Please???” She begged. Sunset giggled, moving closer and leaning forward to press her lips to Twilight for a moment.
“Of course we can. What ever you want,” she giggled, leaning back.
“Awwwww…” everyone cooed. Sunset and Twilight blushed, Twilight burying her face into her hands.
“I can get in contact with Gloriosa! I’m sure she’d love to rent you the camp for the wedding,” Fluttershy said. Sunset nodded.
“Thanks Flutters.”
“I can make everyone’s dresses!” Rarity offered. Everyone nodded.
“Oh! I call being one of Sunny’s bridesmaids!” Pinkie jumped up and down. They all laughed.
“Of course, Pinkie.” Sunset smiled and nodded.
“We can figure out arrangements later, darlings.” Rarity said, typing something in her notes app.
“Don’t forget Spike! He’ll look great in an adorable little tux!” Fluttershy scooped the dog up off the floor, scratching behind his ear and under his chin.
“Of course I would!” Spike agreed, licking the side of Fluttershy’s face, sending her into a small fit of giggles.
“Did that dog just talk?” Cheese asked, looking between the girls with a bewildered look on his face. They all laughed.
“You get used to it,” Rainbow said, jabbing her elbow against his chest.
“Oh! Flurry will need a dress too. It’s a given that she’ll be our flower girl!” Twilight suddenly remembered. Rarity nodded.
“I’ll need to retake everyone’s measurements, but I can definitely make everyone look absolutely fabulous.”
“Cheese and I will plan the party!” Pinkie offered.
“Ah can get Rara to play music if y’all want,” Applejack said.
Sunset and Twilight nodded.
“That would be lovely AJ,” Sunset thanked her.
“Hey! What can I do?” Rainbow asked.
“Uh, find a catering company?” Sunset snickered at Twilight’s response.
“Sure,” Rainbow nodded, taking Twilight’s half-joke, surprisingly well.
“Thank you everyone for offering to help. What would we do without you?” Twilight looked around and smiled at her best friends.
“Yeah, I honestly should have thought things through a little bit more before proposing,” Sunset chuckled.
“But I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Twilight leaned back, leaning up against her fiancee. They two smiled at each other for a moment before looking away.
“Now that we’re all here and have all this settled, how about we get this party started!” Pinkie ran over to the wall, flicking a switch. Confetti rained down from the ceiling, a disco ball lowered, and fast beat music began to play as colored spotlights moved across the walls and floor.
“Wow! You really outdid yourself, Pinks!” Rainbow called over the music.
“Last to the dance floor is a rotten apple!” Pinkie yelled back, breaking into the sprint towards the metallic dance floor none of them had noticed previously. They all laughed, chasing after Pinkie.
Twilight and Sunset had never been happier to have the best group of friends in the world as they followed the group to the dance floor, smiling and laughing the whole way.
