Zecora lives in the Everfree Forest in a small dwelling underneath the shade of a large and knotted tree. She is scrutinized by the ponies of the nearby town, being called a witch, a cultist, and just about everything to do with the supernatural. She even resorts to fortune telling in an attempt to sway the ponies of the town in believing that she is good, but this goes disastrously wrong after a mare looking to dispel a rumour goes running off into the woods, nearly catatonic. Soon after, Zecora finds herself alongside a skeptical adventurer, a detective, and a brilliant yet cocky scholar, all on the case of a mysterious killing. This is the chance she needs to redeem herself in this adventure of a lifetime.
