Prologue: the beginning

Twilight and Spike were gliding upside down on the crystal staircase. Twisting and turning every once in awhile. When they finally reached the top twilight saw it, the crystal heart. She was about to grab it when something dawned on her. It just seemed to easy, the crystal heart was right there in the open. Ready for anyone who wanted it. Why would King Sombra leave it like that? Yes getting here was hard enough, but still if someone did manage to come up here wouldn’t there be more defense?
That was when she saw the flooring under the heart. It was multiple shades of blue with a white star in the middle. Twilight then came to the conclusion that it was somehow booby trapped. She tested her theory by picking up a crystal on the ground and throwing it under the heart.
This alerted Sombra and soon black crystals began to pop out of the ground. After seeing this twilight instantly grab the heart with her magic. She held it protectively to her chest and teleported her and Spike out of there.
In a flash they appeared bedside Princess Cadence, who was barley conscious. Shining Armour shook her awake for her to see twilight holding the heart. Seeing this she found what little strength she had left in her and got up. Twilight handed her the heart and she tiredly glided down to the crystal ponies.
There were a bunch of gasps and ‘oohs’ and ‘ah’ from the crowd below. Cadence then landed smashing the fake heart in the process. As she placed the real heart down the ponies all bowed down light enveloping them. Then a light blue aura like flash spread across the kingdom, which crystallized the ponies. Sombra’s screams of anger echoed throughout the kingdom. Those cries or anger turned into fear as he was turned to dust from the blast.
Twilight and her friends came down to the towns ponies, while Rarity admired her reflection in a crystal. The crystal ponies crowded around Twilight thanking her for her heroism. Everyone else was checking on Cadence to make sure she was alright.
After the crystal ponies were done thanking Twilight she and her friends headed home. Shining Armour and Cadence walked with them to the station.
Feeling accomplished Twilight stepped into the train with her head high and a wide smile. She was glad that this mess was over, but not as happy as knowing she passed her test.
Deep underground in small cabe there was a younger shadow creature. Who was listening to the whole takeover that had just occurred. She did this with her super hearing, she heard there praises and cheers for Sombra’s defeat. How could they be celebrating? Did they even know what they did? Did that Twilight Sparkle know that she turned her father into ash? Probably not, no one would anyway.
She didn’t even know this pony but she already hated her. The only family she had was taken away from her, and she her revenge in Twilight. How though? She couldn’t think of anything at the moment she was to angry to think straight. So she let it be for now.
Months went by and she still couldn’t think of a good idea. Sure she occasionally had an idea of throwing her in Tartarus or something, but it wasn’t good enough. She sat down and groaned rubbing her temples with her front hooves and began to think. ‘What to do, what to do. Nothing seems to be good enough of a payback.’ She sighed.
“I need to clear my head.” She said standing up and headed to the cave entrance. “Maybe a trip to Canterlot will do the trick.”
She used her shadowy figure to blend into the dark alley ways leading her to Canterlot. It took her around 20 minutes to finally reach the outskirts of the city. She kept in the shadows of the alleys until she noticed that no one was in the streets. ‘How odd the street is usually buzzing with ponies.’ She thought.
She cautiously crept into the streets looking every so often for ponies. Since the coast was clear she wandered farther down the streets. She didn’t see a single pony until she came across the castle, there she saw all of Canterlot and maybe other towns too. They were all in a crowded in front of the castle apparently the princesses were making some sort of announcement. Then she saw her, Twilight Sparkle, what was she doing there? Wait did she have wings before?
‘Don’t tell me they made her a princess now.’
Her suspicions were correct as Princess Celestia presented Twilight to the crowd. They cheered, then twilight gave a speech. Something along the lines of.
“Thank you everypony. I am so honored to be your new princess.”
She also had said.
“Before I moved to Ponyville I didn’t appreciate friendship. But it was my friends her that taught me the importance of it. Applejack, Rainbow, Pinkie, Rarity and Fluttershy come on out here.” Then they all shared a group hug.
It made her want to gag. How could they adore someone like her? Did they know what she and her friends had done! Not just to her dad but to all the villains. Though it seems it didn’t matter as long as it was good for there benefits. It didn’t matter how many villains they gave cruel fates to, they only want what’s good for them. Of course Twilight and her dumb little friends have to give that to them.
As the ceremony was coming to an end the young shadow took notice of how Twilight was all over her friends. Giving them hugs and thanks for what? Being there for her. She was about ready to leave in fear of being spotted when she heard Twilight speak.
“I’m so glad I have you girls as my friends. I don’t know what I’d do without you!”
Then she heard a younger male voice speak.
“You’d probably be the lonely bookworm you were back in Canterlot.”
She heard him cry out in pain after that, meaning he probably got punched in the side or something. There was also some laughter that followed shortly after. Then it hit her, twilight would be nothing without her friends. So why didn’t she just take them away. No that wouldn’t be enough she wanted Twilight to pay. She wanted her to know what it’s like to suffer. The shadow wanted to kill the newly crowned princess, but she couldn’t do it alone. Then another thought came to mind, since she couldn’t kill Twilight herself then why not have her friends do it for her. Yes that was it, that was the plan. How did she not think of it before it seemed so obvious!
She swiftly moved back into the dark alley ways before she could be spotted. Quietly she crept back to her cave.
As she entered the cave ideas for her plan were buzzing in her head. Then she let out a low soft chuckle that echoed throughout the cave walls. The laughter grew louder and louder until it abruptly ceased.
She smiled and simply said. “Watch out Twilight Sparkle, Midnight is coming!” With that she began to laugher evilly again.
Chapter 1: corruptions part 1
It was months after Twilight’s coronation and everything was going well. She even earned the title of The Princess Of Friendship. Also gaining a new castle after Tirek destroyed the golden oak library. Yes everything seemed to be going good in Twilights life, but little did she know that would soon change.
What Twilight didn’t know was a certain little shadow creature was watching her these past few months. Midnight, the young shadow, watched twilight stop the Everfree forest from invading. Also defeating Tirek and sending him back to Tartarus. During all of this she plotted her plan to rid Equestria of this princess. With several months of contemplating she finally was ready to strike. She would turn Twilights friends against her one by one, and soon Twilight would have nothing left in her perfect little life.
Now all she had to do was put her plan into motion. She was going to start with the hardest to corrupt, the most positive of them all, Pinkie pie.
Pinkie pie was bouncing around Ponyville saying hi to everyone in town,oblivious to the shadow pony watching her. Pinkie was just about to turn the corner to head into Sugar Cube Corner when something grabbed her arm. She was pulled aside and met the eyes of a dark figure.
“Oh well hi there stranger! Are you new in town?” Pinkie beamed excited to meet a new friend.
“Yeah you can say that.” Midnight said.
“Oh well I’m Pinkie Pie! What’s your name?” Pinkie introduced herself while grabbing Midnight’s shadowy flowing hoof and somehow shaking it.
“My name is Midnight, and I know who you are. I’ve actually come to see you.” Midnight said not bothering to question how she defied gravity itself.
“Oooh! Really? That’s so cool!” Pinkie exclaimed bouncing up and down with excitement.
“Yes yes it’s very cool. Now you need to pay attention this is important. I need to tell you something about one of your friends.” Midnight said grabbing her shoulders to keep her still.
“Um ok? It must be important because I know everything about my friends. Which one is it?” Pinkie tilted her head in confusion.
“Twilight Sparkle, now if I remember correctly your family is having financial problems on the rock farm.” Pinkie nodded her head a confused look on her face. “Well I’ve heard that your “friend” Twilight had something to do with that.”
“What do you mean?” Pinkie said a twinge of sadness in her voice.
Happy that she was getting somewhere Midnight continued. “Twilight wrote to Princess Celestia saying they were illegally using there kids for manual labor. Then she had all there money taken away.”
Pinkies eyes were starting to water which caused Midnight to smile. “I also heard that she called you pathetic and selfish for leaving your family to plan dumb little parties.”
“W-What? T-t-twilight would never do that!” Pinkie stammered her voice cracking.
“Sadly it is true.” She looked up at Pinkie her eyes starting to swirl in a hypnotic motion. “You don’t need her criticism. You don’t need her at all.” Pinkie’s eyes soon matched Midnights. “You hate her, and you want to kill her.”
“I hate twilight, and want to kill her...” pinkie repeated sounding robotic.
Midnight smiled evilly. “Yes, she has wronged you she has caused your family great pain. You don’t need her she doesn’t deserve to live.”
“She doesn’t deserve to live.” Pinkie said her voice filling with hatred. Her eyes then stopped swirling, and she stared blankly at Midnight. Before she could question further Midnight was gone.
Pinkie was slightly confused as to what just happened but decided to continue her day. Though if she did she her supposed “friend” Twilight Sparkle she would make sure to give her a piece of her mind.
She walked over to Sugar Cube Corner still being her bubbly and happy self. Saying hello to everyone she saw and making conversation with the shop ponies. When she finally arrived at the sweet shop she said her hellos to Mr and Mrs cake, then went to find some cakes to eat.
Not long after finding and eating an entire chocolate cake she saw a certain lavender princess walking in. Pinkies face scrunched up in disgust and hatred for the princess. Remembering the news she had received earlier she went up to twilight and punched her right in the muzzle. Luckily for Pinkie no one was around, twilight on the other hand looked at her with wide eyes and a shocked expression written on her face. Pinkie just glared at her and shoved her to the floor and walked out of the shop. She mumbled something along the lines of. “Don’t worry I’ll do worse in the future.” Then she left without another word leaving a shocked twilight behind.
Applejack was working hard bucking apples for the days harvest. She was beginning to harvest the last section of the orchard when she heard a loud. “Psst!” She turned her head every which way trying to found the source of the sound. Then she heard it again. “Psst!”
“Who’s there?” Applejack said trying to sound menacing.
In response Applejack heard a low dark chuckle, causing a shiver to run down her spine. “S-Show yourself!” Applejack stammered her false bravery slowly disappearing. Applejack felt a cold wind blow up against her back then a slight tap on her shoulder. She turned around coming face to face with deep menacing magenta eyes. Applejack could of sworn they flashed red for a second, but before she could open her mouth to speak the shadow introduced herself.
“Hello my name is Midnight, and your Applejack I presume?” Midnight said nonchalantly.
“Y-Yeah...h-how’d you know..?” Applejack shivered under her cold expression.
“That’s not important. What is important however is the news I have for you.” Midnight said seriously.
“What about..?” Applejack curiously asked.
“About your friend Twilight Sparkle. It’s rather important so listen up.” Midnight commanded. Applejack didn’t respond so she continued. “Your parents died a few years ago right?” She asked more calmly this time.
Applejack nodded to scared to say anything. “Well I know how they died.” Midnight continued.
“Y-You do?” Applejack interrupted.
“Mmhm.” Midnight replied then continued. “They weren’t murdered by timberwolves, they were murdered by your friend Twilight.”
Applejack gasped. “What! No your lying it couldn’t have been her!”
“Oh but it was, it’s weird too she was only 11 at the time.” Midnight nonchalantly said.
“How could you know? Were you there?” Applejack questioned.
“Actually yes, I was only 9 when I saw your friend with two big bags and a knife. Curious I followed here she was heading towards this farm. I saw there were two older ponies there too, they were harvesting apples at the time. Twilight she...she.” She choked on her words, then continued. “She walked up to them and stabbed them. Then she bit them making it seem like a Timberwolf did it. She stuffed them in the bags and dragged them into the forest. I followed her and saw that she laid them on the ground and walked away.”
She looked up at applejack who was trying to fight back tears. “It’s..it’s not true!” She snapped. “Twilight would never do that! She was only a kid!”
“Well I’m afraid it is true. I can show you if you want to.” Midnight stated.
“Show me? How can ya do that?”
“Time travel.”
“What! Twilight said time travel isn’t something we should mess with.”
“Well it’s not really time travel it’s more like looking into the past.” She grabbed applejack hoof. “Come on I’ll show you.”
“Hey! I-“ but before she could protest further they were sucked into a magic portal.
Seconds later they were near the outskirts of the orchard. They saw applejacks parents harvesting apples just like Midnight had said. Applejack was about to run towards them when they heard rustling in the bushes. Soon a younger Twilight Sparkle came out holding too body bags and a large knife. Twilight eyed the two unsuspecting ponies and quietly approached them. Then in a flash she jabbed the knife in Pear butters leg. She fell to the ground and Bright Mac shouted. “Buttercup!” As he bent down to help her twilight stabbed him in the throat with the knife. He limply fell to the ground and twilight stabbed him til she was sure he was dead. Next was Pear butter, she was trying to stand but her leg was badly cut. She probably would have died of blood loss had twilight not shoved the knife straight into her chest.
Applejack just stood there and watched as twilight dragged the bodies into the forest. She couldn’t move or speak, all she could do was cry. She was snapped out of her trance when midnight spoke.
“See I wasn’t lying.”
“No! No, NO!” Applejack screamed as they were transported back to the present.
Little did applejack know that Midnight just made her hallucinate the whole thing. She’s probably scarred for life but hey you gotta do what you gotta do. Midnight knelt down to her and said. “It will be alright I can help you get revenge.” As she said this her eyes turned into hypnotic spirals. Applejacks eyes unresistingly matching hers. Seeing she got through to her she whispered. “Good, now I want you to kill twilight I want her to pay for what she did to you.” Applejack just nodded.
Midnight smiled evilly and teleported away applejacks eyes returning to normal.
Midnight appeared in another dark alley way thinking of who to corrupt next.
“Hmmm, who should be next?” She thought aloud tapping her chin.
Her lips curled into a evil smile as she thought of he next victim. ‘Time to head to cloudsdale.’ She thought.
