The shattering of glass.
The screams of terror.
A soft voice called out to him that was sweet to his ears.
Finally finding the light, his eyes stared at the single beam of light piercing through the rubble that surrounded him. Pushing forward the rocks tumbled off his armored form. One gauntlet reached over the other. Crawling towards this faint spark of hope. Reaching towards the open space pushing his aching muscles against the wall of rubble before him.
Rocks spilled out one by one. Until the whole wall collapsed. Finding himself on his knees in a long hallway. The pale moon laid in front of him. A piece of the marble wall in front of him was missing. His vision blurred yet, his head twisted trying to take in his surroundings. Where was he….that wasn’t his only question.
Who was he? Staring downward at his own hand at the steel armor that covered it his vision began to focus. Trying to find his feet his legs shook. Crashing against a wall he used it to support himself walking down the broken hallway...something in his mind was pulling him forward in this direction. Flashes or perhaps sparks of his mind were rebuilding this hallway to its former glory before reality came crashing back down on him.
Moving with each step. Knowing not what lay beyond this corner yet, the need to move towards it was unbearable. This presence of dread in his stomach wasn’t leaving him. As he turned the corner he was met with twin doors massive in size and golden in color. What he was searching for was beyond those doors. That was at least what his mind was telling him. Even though that feeling washed over him as he stared at the door. There was something else coming from it.
A weight. A pressure. As if what lays pass this gate will swallow him whole. Feet still moving forward carried by a will not his own. Only stopping in front of the golden doors as he spotted his reflection. His whole form was covered in steel plate. A face hidden under a helm with a T-shape slit in it. A long red feather was coming out the top of the helm, flowing behind it. Reaching up towards this helm was his hand, it stopped itself. Something deep within his being screamed at him not to remove his helm. The thought of removing it was almost…painful.
The armor was battered either by battle or time. The hand then moved to his chest brushing over the symbol on it. It was a sun surrounded by orange rays. Looking back at the door his resolve was steeled. Pushing against the massive doors they began to swing open scraping against the marble flooring.
Cast in shadows in front of him was….a throne room. A throne that he once bowed before. “A champion of the sun rises this day. Please raise your head. My champion.” The voice in his memory caused a shower of warmth to wash over him. The vision ended with those words. No other image came to his mind.
Walking into the darken throne room. Pieces of the moonlight pierced into the room through many holes the room had. The two thrones at the back of the room were cast in the deepest of shadows that not even the moonlight could break through. Stopping in the center of the room his mind did wander. There had to be something more…why was he drawn to this room.
“Ah she was right. Then I shall make sure the Prophecy will end here….the light shall fade as it was meant too,” The voice called out from the shadows that loomed over the thrones.
The Knight’s attention was drawn towards the voice. As it’s caller step out from the shadows that seemingly clanged to their body. It was a female with raven hair covered in ebony armor. A red horn grew from her forehead. Red eyes stared solely at the knight in front of her. Red flowed down from her shoulders, a noble cape of silk with a white fluffed collar. Her body was voluptuous in an hourglass shape, near flawless other than the scar over her right eye.
“You…..know me?” Calling out back to her. Fear came to him. Something about this woman was causing his body to tremble and hairs on his neck to stand up.
“Ooo I think I would know well the man who scarred me,” Answering quickly with a bite to her words. “Though I am disappointed. I sense no magic from you. I see not your sword. I feel not your commanding presence. I taste fear from you.” Crimson pools now narrowing upon him.
The horn began to glow with twisted black malice. The whites of her eyes turned green, as strips of purple came out of the sides of her eyes. Simply waving a hand forward towards him. Spikes of pure onyx rushed at the wounded knight. Exploding from the earth with the sole purpose of ending his existence. His reflexes were the only thing that saved him from impalement. Even so his leg was caught by the tip of one of the spikes.
It tore through metal and skin alike. Slashing blood against the marble. Rolling to his knees, he gritted his teeth looking down at his wounded leg. His body was already barely moving. Now…now blood was pouring from his leg. Yet, he found not the time to think as he heard her heels click behind him against the floor. The weight of her power washed over him.
Slowly his helm did turn seeing the flashing of her white fangs as her hand shot out coiling around his throat. Fists began to beat against her arm as she squeezed his throat. Adrenaline kicked in as did the fear of death. Clawing and still beating at the arm that gripped him to no avail. Her strength was unnatural she didn’t even flinch at his strikes.
Simply she began to walk forward towards the far right wall. She walked towards a hole in the wall dragging him with her as if he was as light as a feather. Still he struggled even if in the back of his mind he knew that his efforts were fruitless. He didn’t even know why he was really struggling? Why could he not simply beg for his life? This was something deeper than just wanting to live. He couldn’t die here.
They stopped in front of this hole. Lifting the knight off his feet dangling him over the hole. Glancing downward he saw nothing but, a sheer drop covered in a thick mist. A sickness washed over him. Feeling his heart beat picking up he still struggled against the grip around his throat holding onto her arm for dear life.
The smile on her face showed nothing but, pure joy watching him struggle so. “You asked me if I know you. I do know you. You are…. a failed protector. A worthless knight whom couldn’t even save a single life. We have won with this final act. The world is ours. By my hands it is won. I told you one day I would return what you did to me tenfold. You can die…knowing nothing about yourself and in fear.” Laughter came from her throat.
No.
This can’t end like this. There was something he needed to do. He needed to know. That same symbol upon his chest suddenly appeared upon the back of his left hand. It came in the form of a golden glow. The hand rose, aiming towards her as if out of instinct to do so. Light burst forth from his palm exploding outward. It burned her. She hissed drawing back her hand as he….
Fell into the mist below. She peered over the edge watching him disappear.
“So it ends…with no war but, a whimper. How terribly boring.” Commenting this as she disappeared back into the shadows.
