“You sure you don’t need anything else, Zecora? I don’t mind carrying more stuff for you, you know?” A pink coated pegasus stallion with silky blonde mane and tail asked as he hovered a meter or so aloft the ground. He was carrying a few straw, bark, and makeshift bags with his forehooves; his back similarly preoccupied with more foraged ranks of leaves, sticks, bushes, bark, lichen, mushrooms, jars containing small animals, and more.
“That you offer to carry my ingredients is help enough, I would not wish for you to be in the rough,” Zecora replied with a gentle smile, her back also carrying materials, though fewer than what the stallion was carrying. “The help you bring to me without self-gain is something I admire. Truly, you are a friend any mare should require.”
“Haha! You know me, good ol’ Lucky Doo doing his best to help out a friend in need!” He replied cheerfully, blushing due to Zecora’s compliments and smiling brightly; enough to make the squinting monsters hidden in the bushes shy away from its shine. Which, as luck would have it, only served to accentuate his rather effeminate looks.
Indeed, many stallions had at one point or another mistaken him for a mare at first glance from a distance. Lighter frame, wider haunches, slimmer stomach, more refined facial features, a well-kept mane and tail that many mares would kill to have, deep blue eyes filled with joy and goodwill, a smile that could melt hearts, and even his size was leaning more on the petite side. But that was only at a distance. Once one approached him, the illusion was broken since he still had several traits that confirmed him as a stallion. After that, he found himself spending more and more time at Zecora’s side, be it by keeping her company, helping her with her shopping, or lending a wing to gather up the ingredients she needed to make her potions; ingredients buried deep in the forest. Once he had been scared half-way to Tartarus and back of the Everfree Forest, but after dozens of incursions, he had lost almost all of said fear. What little remained was nothing but fearful respect of it, unlike Zecora who showed no fear at all since it was her home.
In truth, he found the forest to be quite beautiful and peaceful most of the time despite its constant dangers. Speaking of which, a reminder assaulted his mind as they arrived at a trial of dirt he recognized and knew they were around twenty minutes yet still away from her home. “Looks like we spent more time gathering your ingredients than other times,” he looked up to see the faint patches of the sky heralding the coming night.
“Only by a slight margin of miscalculation, more ingredients were needed this time for use in my creations,” she replied with a nod. “If we hurry now and not wander, mayhaps the light of day you’ll catch back over yonder?”
“Nah, don’t worry about me. No need to tire ourselves out with a sprint to save, what, a few minutes?” Lucky replied, tilting his head cutely. Zecora merely nodded and they continued their way. Just as he had predicted, just over twenty minutes later they reached her home. Zecora waved a hoof and the lights came to life along with the door opening. In the past, that had scared him the first time he saw her do that, but now he understood, at least in part, how the strange zebra magic worked.
Getting inside her home, Lucky let go of the bags before putting down the cargo on his back. When he was done, he landed and stretched his limbs until the joints popped. “Aaaaaahhhhh~ I needed that.”
“Thank you again, Lucky Doo my trusted friend. Without your aid, this bounty shall take long for me to expend,” said Zecora as she lowered the last package she was carrying. There’s no need for you to give me anything in return; your friendship is the best gift you’ve given me!”
Zecora let go and chuckled. “Then, my dearest friend, allow me to quench your thirst at the very least. Otherwise, I assure you, your throat will feel like yeast.”
“Now that I can accept!” He laughed as he made himself comfortable sitting on the couch next to the rack of potions. As he relaxed, he watched his friend work quickly on a potion. Sure, she could simply give him water, but for some reason he couldn’t fathom she always went that little extra mile to make him feel comfortable or to pamper him. Whilst watching her pull out some pots, water, and stir some ingredients, he couldn’t help but admire her beauty.
Her haunches and rump were bigger than the average mare, her body was covered with not only her comforting stripes, but also with a few scars, lithe but athletic muscles, and a figure that spoke of a healthy, strong mare that didn’t mind having just that hint of extra fat to make her hips sway juuuust in the right way that was hypnotic to watch. “I’m just a filthy glutton,” Lucky set his drink aside, setting on the rack of potions. “There’s nothing I wouldn’t eat, especially if it is sweet and creamy!” He said before climbing off the couch. “I’ll be seeing you tomorrow for brunch?”
“I look forward to eating your delicious pancakes once more! Such a delight that I have come to adore!” She replied eagerly.
Lucky was about to grab his drink and say his goodbyes when it happened.

The collective howls of hundreds of timberwolves were heard all across the forest. A moment later, the two heard the distant echoes of Ponyville’s bell toiling the warning.

“The bell has been rung and the wolves of wood have made their call; indoors we must remain until they return to their hall,” said Zecora as she walked around her home and touching various symbols scattered across the floor, walls, and furniture.
“What are you doing?” He asked but Zecora didn’t reply. Four symbols touched later, he felt an unfamiliar energy wash over his body. “What in ponyfeathers was that?”
“Do not fret my pink friend, for within my barrier we are invisible. No monster shall come near us until morning comes, their attempts nothing more than risible,” she explained.
“I need a drink,” grabbing his bottle, he took another, much longer sip out of it as he sat back on the couch. “Oh! Ginger and cinnamon?” He exclaimed before drinking a little more ending with a long sigh of relief. “I’m sorry, Zecora”
“Sorry for what, precious friend of mine? It is the timberwolves fault for coming out early to dine,” she said as she nuzzled his cheek. Sitting at his side, she continued. “Don’t fret to be a burden upon my hut, you are most welcome to stay safe and shut,” she finished with a warm, sincere smile.
Lucky blushed and his heart drummed madly. He mumbled incoherent noises as he tried to hide behind his mane while Zecora leaned to rest her head against his. His head swirled with emotions and elation. He loved her. He had fallen in love with her almost as soon as he got to know her. He loved everything about her, from her attitude to her personality, to her beauty, all the way down to her hooves. But he lacked the courage to confess his feelings for her, fearing he’d lose their beautiful friendship.

She giggled in response. “Of course I will help you, my dear. To not do so would make me shed a tear,” offering a hoof, she helped him up to his hooves and guided him to the couch. Helping him lay on his back but leaving his nuts fully exposed, Zecora sat next to him. “Our only course of action is to wait until the potion leaves your system. It may take hours or days, no other solution can be found in this ecosystem. Making the counter-potion would take me a moon, and I believe you’d wish to leave my hut soon?”
“I don’t want to return to Ponyville with these hanging from my nethers, Zecora. I think I’ll wait, he sighed. “I’m such a doofus. Have I ever told you that my special talent is being lucky? Well, right now I feel pretty unlucky. But that happens from time to time… I just hope my boss understands I won’t be able to go to work for a few days.”
“Of that, I shall take care of, my dear Lucky. Tomorrow I shall head to town to explain to your employer of a situation most mucky. With me vouching for your health most impaired, I no doubt you will be spared,” she ended with a light kiss on his cheek.
“Thank you, Zecora,” he replied with a blushing face and a wide smile.
That was one thing he adored about Zecora. Not only her willingness to help those in need or her gentle heart, but her sincerity and the way she treated him. She always made sure that he was comfortable around her, gave him snacks, brewed him potions for free or as thank you’s, and was quite touchy-feely. With a nod, Lucky carefully stood on his hooves once more. They spent the next hour counting, rechecking, organizing, categorizing, and storing all the ingredients they had collected during the day in their respective places. Once they were done, and feeling more at ease despite the bothersome size of his balls getting in the way and the terrible ache cost him some focus, they started working on making simple potions of many kinds. Shampoos, oils, cleaning soaps, healing potions, teas, and many more things. It was then, in the middle of brewing an ointment treatment for hooves, that curiosity finally got the best of Lucky.

An unforeseen outcome it has yielded, one with I am quite content. An hour has passed and yet you show no ill effect. I wonder what you may produce and what to expect.”
