She was nervous and very scared. On her back, she carried a bag filled with various items; books, pencils, highlighters, papers, the items she needed for any of her classes. But, there was one item inside her bag that was not meant for class. The item in question was a single envelope; which contained a carefully written letter. A letter she had written all of her emotions on. It was why she was so nervous; the letter itself was addressed to her friend. The orange dragoness knew as Smolder. Every step she took she got closer and closer to Smolders locker. Her fear also grew but she did her best to keep it from overtaking her mind. She had one single goal in mind. Leave the note in her locker and leave it up to fate. She turned down another hallway; gasping and quickly backing up. Slowly, she peaked her head around the corner. Sure enough, Smolder was standing in front of her locker; with another dragoness standing right next to her. The dragoness had dark red scales and horns that curved backward like a ram. The two seemed to be in the middle of a conversation. It took her a moment to settle down her beating heart. With a deep breath, she tried to continue walking past the hallway. She heard Smolder call her, “Ocellus!” She came to a sudden halt mid-stride as she turned and looked. Smolder was waving for her to come over to them. She sighed and slowly began to walk over to the two. Her heart rate slightly increased as she got closer and closer. When she was standing next to Smolder she was introduced to her friend, “Ocellus, I want you to meet my old friend Trigger.” The dragoness known as Trigger replied, “Ah so this is the infamous Ocellus that you were talking about,” She smiled flashing her fangs in the process. It caused Ocellus to shiver in fear on the inside. The two continued to talk while Ocellus remained quiet. All she did was stare at Smolder; taking in every small detail. Almost as if this was the first and last time that she would ever see her. The way her orange scales slightly shimmered in the sunlight. Her voice although rough carried a hint of softness to it. The way her eyes always seemed like that of a predator. But, just behind them lay the eyes of one of the most beautiful dragoness she had ever seen. She was so lost in thought that she never heard Smolder say goodbye before walking away. Ocellus had to shake herself out of her daze; just so she could focus on her task at hand. She watched as Smolder walked farther and farther away. When said dragoness was out of sight; she reached into her bag and pulled out the note. She sighed in relief and was about to slip the note into the locker. But, it was snatched out of her magical hold by Trigger. Who had a very sinister scowl on her face. Ocellus was stunned by the sudden action; so stunned that it took her a moment to realize that the dragoness was reading the note. Ocellus spoke, “Hey!” She tried to reach for the note, “That's not!” Trigger roared at her before pushing her backward causing her to fall to the ground. She looked down at the changeling like a predator looking at prey. Ocellus was gazing back up at her with a look of fear in her eyes. She growled at her before speaking, “Listen, you little roach,” Ocellus gasped a little at the name, “If you think I am going to allow you; to sink your fangs into MY GEM!” Trigger had to take in a deep breath as she tried to calm herself down. She then laughed a little before she looked at the bug with an uncaring look, “Actually, what do I have to be worried about?” She laughed a little before she continued, “What makes you think Smolder would ever choose you as a mate? Honestly, you're a bug, an insect, you're nothing but a roach crawling around on the floor; scampering off in fear whenever a light is turned on. You have no chance with her or any creature for that matter.” Ocellus remained silent as the dragoness laughed at her. She said nothing all she could do was stare forward at her; how could the dragoness say such awful things about her. She didn't even know her until a few seconds ago. It was then she was grabbed and slammed hard against the lockers. She cried out in pain; only to be silent by the glare of the dragoness. Trigger growled, “This is your only warning, maggot. Stay away from Smolder or I'll squash you.” She then threw her back down to the ground; when the changeling looked back at her she held the note up. Only to use her fire breath to reduce it into nothing but a small pile of ash. She then walked away laughing. Ocellus slowly crawled up towards the ash pile; she stared down at it. Then a single tear fell onto the pile; it was followed by another, then another and another. She began to sob a little before she turns and ran down the hallway. Eventually, she used her wings to fly down the hall; all the way back to her room. She then threw herself onto her bed and cried loudly into her pillow. Her feelings had been hurt, her pride and confidence all but destroyed, and the note she had written for Smolder was now nothing but ash. What did she do to deserve this kind of treatment? She was simply trying to tell Smolder her feelings for her. Only to have this other dragoness call her a bug, a roach, a maggot! She cried harder into the pillow. A knock then came from her door; followed by a concerned voice, “Ocellus?” It was Silverstream her hippogriff friend. Her voice called out to her in worry, “Ocellus, it's Silverstream, are you okay?” Ocellus all but yelled out, “Go away!” She sobbed a little hoping her plea would be heard. Silverstream grew more worried; she swore she could hear her friend crying. She called out again, “Ocellus, is everything okay?” She nearly screamed, “GO AWAY!” She then released a loud hiss; she quickly brought her hooves to her mouth as her eyes widened in shock. Silverstream had jumped away from the door in both shocks in fear. Never before had she heard her friend scream or hiss before. She was a little nervous to speak; but with a single gulp, she spoke, “Okay, I'm leaving,” She began to slowly back away before she finished, “But if you need to talk Ocellus. I'll.....I'll be in the library.” She then quickly turned and flew off but it was not in the direction of the library. She had to find the other and tell them about what was going on. Ocellus sat there silently in her room; she couldn't believe what she just did. She hissed at her friend. In the hive, hissing was just as bad as cursing. It meant you didn't care how you made the other feel. You didn't see them as equals in the hive. You saw them as a lowly drone or worse. She felt tired and lay down onto her bed. She pulled her pillow close to her body and began to quietly sob. She figured she just lost respect and trust from her friend. Which made her feel worse than she already was. It wasn't long until all the crying, the surge of raw negative emotions, and the shock of hissing final took it's toll. Slowly, her eyes closed and she entered the realm of dreams. She found herself sitting next to Smolder; both of them were smiling and laughing. Enjoying a peaceful time together. It was then Smolder wrapped her arm around her and pulled her close. Ocellus felt warm and she felt the love that was pouring from the dragoness. Ocellus spoke softly, “I love you.” Only to suddenly be shoved back down into the dirt; she cried out a little in shock only to look back up at a now glaring Smolder. The dragoness looked more menacing almost like a monster; her eyes were a dark yellow and fire seemed to be building up in her maw. Smolder then spoke, “You love me,” Her voice sounded like that of a demon; she then released a wicked chuckle, “How can a maggot like you love me.” It was then Ocellus noticed that her body had changed to that of an actual maggot. She screamed in disgust only to scream again in fear as she looked back up. Smolder had grown to the size of a giant and was getting ready to crush her with her foot. She began to try and crawl away; the words “Maggot, roach, chrysalis, bug” Echoing all around her. She turned over just as the foot was coming down. “No!” The foot crushed her. Ocellus sat up screaming, “NO!” she panted heavily her heart beating loudly inside her chest. Sweat drenched her and her bed; well, she hoped that was sweat on her bed. She shook with fear as she sat on her bed. The memory of the dream still fresh in her mind. Slowly, she got up from the bed and exited her room. Slowly and quietly she made her way to the school bathroom. Once there she took a quick hot shower to wash the sweat off her body. She then walked over to the sink and splashed some water in her face. She then looked up in the mirror and gasped in horror; the image in the mirror was that of Chrysalis. It hissed at her causing her to back away in fear. Before the image began to slowly crawl out of the mirror. Ocellus spoke in horror, “You're, You're supposed to be imprisoned in stone.” The former queen spoke to her as she smiled, “Oh, my sweet Ocellus,” She giggled a little as she stepped closer, “Don't you know my spirit still lives with all of those in my hive,” She then used her magic to grab Ocellus by her throat and hold her up to face to face. She then finished, “But, my soul lives on in you!” Ocellus was then turned back towards the mirror; only to reveal her choking herself with her magic. Her horn and half of her face resembled that of Chrysalis; while the rest of her body looks like a grub. The rest of her face looked like that of a cockroach. She screamed and screamed in fear as laughter, hissing, and insults began to echo around her. “OCELLUS, WAKE UP!” She once again sat up in her bed gasping in fear. But, this time she woke to her friend Silverstream standing next to her. Before Silverstream could ask Ocellus threw herself at her and sobbed into her chest. All Silverstream could do was hold the shaken changeling. She felt tears staining her feathers but she didn't care. Her friend needed her as she needed her earlier. But, unlike before she wasn't going to leave her alone this time. Gently the young hippogriff spoke, “It's Okay, Ocellus,” She hugged her a little tighter as she began to gently rub her friends back, “You're okay. It was just a bad dream.” Author's Note Okay, this is a experimental fanfic. First time I've ever shipped these two. So let me know what y'all think in the comments and wish me luck.
