Light...

Alright, he was beginning to dislike light...

Always...

The monster jumped to his hooves, or atleast tried to. The sudden movement resulted in a cry of shock that wasn't his own and the thump of his head smacking into the wooden floor. Before he even opened his eyes he was in the air, shimmering with a faint green light, before being placed back down onto a soft bed. The left side of his face was covered by something, panic began to worm its way into the monsters mind as he squirmed, held in place by what felt like an unmovable force. His left eye finally opened, being greeted with a shockingly pink unicorn stallion and a glowing green horn. His first reaction was to relax, he clearly wasn't in any danger. A smile spread across his face as he tried to speak to the stallion.

,,¿ǝɯ sɐ ʇsɐǝq ɐ ɥɔns pǝnɔsǝɹ noɥʇ ʇsɐH ¿sǝᴉɯǝuǝ ǝlᴉʌ ʎɥʇ ɯoɹɟ ǝɯ pǝʌɐs noɥʇ ʇsɐH ¡ollǝH,,

What came out was completely alien to the pink unicorn so he responded in the only way he could, "What?"

The monster tilted his head, confusion enshrouding his mind. What had that pony just said? It certainly didn't sound like anything he heard before, though it did sound familiar for some unknown reason. He decided that physical actions were just as good as words, and reached up to lick the stallions left cheek, a gesture he was using to try and convey thanks. The stallion reacted by pulling back before he could even perform said action. A whine crept up the monster's throat, tears welling up in his eyes. He huffed loudly, before shoving his face under the covers of the bed and sitting there. He looked quite silly to any watching.

A giggle ran through the room, the monster's ears perking up from under the blanket and sticking up, which caused another chorus of laughter. A smile spread across his face as he brought his head out of the blanket, eyes locking onto a group of foals sitting in a different bed, one with her hoof wrapped in a white cast. The monster let a silly expression take over his face. He let one ear flop limply against his left eye, and then let the other fall as well, his tongue sticking out of his mouth and his eyes crossed. Now, even the stallion had a small smile on his face, shaking his head as he began to look over the wounds on the monster's wings.

He grinned back at the foals, a ball of bright green magic glowing over his head, before flying high into the ceiling of the room before bursting in a spray of pretty lights and confetti. A dark green foal walked over to the monster's bed, a smile on her face, but her head down. She jumped up onto the bed, a wary glance from the stallion was quickly swept off his face as the filly nuzzled the monster on his cheek. The monster responded with a nuzzle of his own, and a lick on her cheek, his injured wing wrapping around the filly. More foals began to run over to his bed, snuggling up under his wings. The stallion turned to his right with his horn alight, and slowly dragged the other bed closer to the monster's, the beds now touching, making it easy for the injured foal to crawl over and lie next to her friends.

"Those griffons did quite a number on you, friend. I think the cracked hoof is from some point earlier, and you having no food in your body certainly didn't help the healing process. Do you think you could eat for me?"

The monster tilted his head, obviously not understanding them. A yellow pegasus colt to his right nosed him, getting his attention, before making motions of eating, biting down on air. The monster's ears sprung upwards, his head now nodding eagerly.

"Thanks Starsoar, I'll be back with some food for our guest."

Starsoar nodded, a smile on his face, before he flopped against the monster side and lied down. As the foals pressed up against him, the monster suddenly felt better, the pain in his bandaged hoof didn't hurt as much, and his wings felt fuzzy and warm. He let out a content sigh, before lowering his head and closing his eyes once more. Just like that, the monster slept, surrounded by happy little ponies and bandaged up.

Suddenly he felt a horn bump against his forehead and knock lightly against his antlers. The blue on the unicorn filly became more prominent, his head felt more focused. Running on instinct he thought hard, thinking of any word he could hear them saying before, one word sticking out in his mind, feeling as though it wasn't his to say.

"Hello?"

His voice was deep and rumbling as it left him, overpowering the other conversations the foals were having, and even echoing a bit. The monsters tongue felt strange, like it was fuzzy and gooey at the same time. The sharp fangs in his mouth were gone, replaced by flat teeth, though the second row of teeth further down his throat stayed razor sharp. His tongue changed from flat and long, to thicker and rounder at the end as opposed to its split down the middle before. Even his tail changed, taking on a remarkably less sharp texture, now fuzzy and light. His feathers had changed as well, deep blue marks running down the middle to end in a dark purple.

"Hi!" The unicorn filly responded, bouncing lightly in the bed with a smile on my face.

"Youngling, dost thou comprehend mine utterance?" The monster asked in old pony speak. It was as if a whole wealth of instincts at rushed through him. Centuries of evolution placed within him in the blink of an eye, the words felt perfect in his mouth, pronounced as if he had said them thousands of times before. His brain was still a jumbling mess of unknown images, emotions, thoughts, and feelings, but suddenly, these words made perfect sense to him. He understood them with absolute clarity.

"Of course she heard you, you're talkin' pretty loud!" Starsoar said from his right, his eyes bright and a smile on his face.

"Nay, we could not comprehend thy words mere instants ago!" The monster replied, his voice refined and elegant. The door to the room opened, the pink stallion stepping in with a confused look on his face.

"Uhm... So you can talk now?" The stallion muttered, he looked completely baffled. The stallion was balancing a tray on his back, packed with snacks for the foals, and two daffodil sandwiches for the monster. He approached the bed quickly, using his magic to open the monster's mouth, peering at the new tongue and teeth. "And those certainly weren't like that earlier..."

"I suppose I can, though why is beyond my knowledge. I must thank you for thine kindness, saving such a beast as me. Many seek to judge me solely based on my appearance."

"Well, I'm not gonna complain, makes this a bit easier." The pink stallion responded, and now that the monster could get a good look, he could see his lighter pink mane and cutie mark resembling a bright red cross over a large green heart. He set the tray on the table next to the beds, the foals running over to savagely clean the tray of snacks in seconds, Starsoar making sure to grab extra for the foal with the cast. The monster focused, summoning up all of his mental fortitude. The small plate on the tray was coated in a dark green aura, slowly and shakily drifting over to the monster and flopping at his front hooves.

As the monster dug in with wild abandon, the pink stallion simply smiled, sitting down next to the bed and checking over the monsters wounds once again, carefully changing the bandages on his wing. He finally spoke up as he tightly wrapped the bandages around his wing. "So, what's your name big guy?"

"Name? Why, I... Hmm... That is a good question..." The monster stopped eating to respond, making sure to swallow before speaking, remembering to be polite, the only thing that rose up in his confusing mind.

"Ooo! Ooo! Greenheart, Can we call him Rainbow!?" Starsoar nearly shouted, bouncing up and down on the bed.

"Now why would we call him that?" Greenheart asked, a slightly confused expression settling on his bright pink face.

"Cause of his eyes, Duh!" Starsoar responded, thrusting a hoof outwards to point at the monsters eyes.

The constantly shifting expanse inside of the monsters eyes shifted once again, back to its neutral spiraling of prismatic color. He took another bite from his sandwich with a puzzled expression on his face.

"Hmm... What about prisma? It means the same thing as rainbow, but it sounds cooler." The stallion thought out loud with a grin on his face.

A wave of "Oohh"s ran through the group of foals, along with nodding heads and smiles.
