It was raining hard at a large cemetery. The clouds completely covered the sun so no signs of light could be seen. The atmosphere was perfect for the funeral that was taking place. Many ponies and some other creatures wore black suits or dresses while they gathered around a coffin that was in preparations of being buried. At the very front of the coffin was an adult, yellow earth pony stallion. His manes were light brown and they were drenched from the pouring rain. He was wearing a black suit that was also getting drenched from the rain. His green eyes had tears streaming down his cheeks as he was suffering the most. Stallions began to shovel dirt into the hole the coffin was placed in. Behind the coffin's hole was a large tombstone that had some writing on it. It read:

Here Lies Curly Locks
Grandmare to All

When the coffin was finally buried, some of the ponies and creatures began to approach the yellow stallion to apologize for his loss. At a far distant from the funeral, three dark figures were watching the burial while on a hill top. The dark figures were especially focused on the yellow stallion who was receiving comfort.

"Mr. Feather Bangs?" A mare's voice called out. The yellow stallion opened his eyes to see that he was sitting inside a waiting room. He turned to see the secretary mare standing before him.

"Y-yes?" The stallion replied.

"Trial Gabble is ready to see you." The secretary said as she returned to her desk. Feather slowly got up from his seat and made his way towards the door to his grandmare's lawyer. A week had passed since the funeral of Feather's grandmare and Feather was now at the Gabble Law Firm to hear what he has inherited from his grandmare. He placed his hand on the door knob and slowly opened it to reveal an organized law office. Behind the desk was a light green earth pony mare with orange manes. She wore a dark gray suit and her face showed that of somepony who meant serious business. Feather didn't know much about Trial Gabble except that she was his grandmare's main lawyer.

"Feather Bangs, I presume?" Trial asked.

"Yes, Ma'am." Feather confirmed.

"Have a seat and we will get the reading started." Trial requested. Feather took the seat that was in front of Trial's desk.

"Let me start by saying that I apologize that you suffered such a heavy loss, Feather." Trial said with a sad look on her face.

"Thank you, I appreciate it." Feather said while nodding.

"Curly was such a strong mare even at an old age." Trial closed her eyes. "She helped me get through my first years as her lawyer when my mother retired and passed along the title of Curly's lawyer to me."

Feather responded by nodding.

"As I recall, she was the last member of your family?" Feather nodded once again.

"My parents died from a car accident when I was a foal. My grandmare had been raising me ever since that day."

"I'm sorry for bringing up another one of your tragedies." Trial said.

"It's alright," Feather waved a hand. "It's good for me to talk about it."

"Anyway, let's begin with the reading of your grandmare's will." Trial said as she pulled out an orange envelope that had the label: Curly Locks on the front. Trial pulled out a small knife and cut open the top. She then pulled out some papers from the envelope. The lawyer then put on her reading glasses and began to read the part of the will that was meant for Feather.

To my precious grandson, Feather Bangs,

You are one of the very few ponies I cherished while living my life. Even when your parents died so suddenly, you stayed strong and allowed yourself to become the fine stallion you are today. I only wished that I could have seen you grow more, but faith had other plans for me. That is why I entrust you my large fortune that I have possessed for a long time as I believe that you are responsible enough to take care of my wealth. I also give you my title as CEO of the Curly Locks Foundation. You have worked with me long enough that you are able to run my organization on your own. If you struggle, do not worry. Several of my employees that you already know can assist you if you need it. Another gift I give to you will be my luxurious mansion in Foalrida. I want you to move back there and use my office as your new work station. My mansion is also where I left you my very last gift. These gifts I'm giving you shows how much I love and trust you, Feather. I will always remember the times we spent together as grandmare and grandson.

Sincerely,
Your Grandmare: Curly Locks

After Trial was done reading the will, Feather was completely quiet as he was processing what he just heard. Tears dripped from his cheeks as what was written on the will felt like his grandmare's last words. Trial brought out a box of tissues and gave it to Feather.

"Thank you," Feather whispered as he took some tissues and blew his muzzle.

Feather drove his green car up the hill where Curly's mansion was located. Feather looked at the side of the long road and he saw Foalrida's vast, blue ocean. Feather began to remember all of the times he and his grandmare used to play in the sand and water of Foalrida's beaches. He shook off the memories as he refocused on driving. Feather slowly stopped his car when he turned towards a closed, set of metal gates. He opened his window to press the button on the panel near the gate. The intercoms from the panel let out a static noise before someone spoke through it.

"Hello? Who is this?" A female voice said through the intercoms. Feather couldn't help but smile as he recognized the voice.

"Long time no see, Matilda!" Feather said to the intercoms.

Feather heard a gasp from the female voice. "Feather! I'm so glad you have returned!" The metal gates began to slowly open and Feather drove his car into the other side of the entrance. Feather only saw trees and the road for a few seconds before he saw his grandmare's mansion. The mansion's structure was large and wide with its' outer parts completely painted with white. There were large columns that held up the outer areas of the mansion to make it look like an old Romarian temple. Feather was still amazed to see his grandmare's home even though he used to live here. When Feather became older, he decided to move out and live in a small apartment to get a chance to live independently. His grandmare understood as he needed to leave the nest to grow on his own.

'I should've stayed here.' Feather thought. 'I would've had more time with Granny before she passed.' Feather slowly parked his car at the front entrance of the mansion. The front doors opened and an older looking donkey woman hurried over to Feather. The donkey woman had curly brown manes and had blue earrings on her long ears. She wore a blue sundress with a white apron tied around her waist. Her height was shorter than Feather's as most donkeys are shorter than ponies. Feather exited his car to give Matilda a tender hug.

Matilda has always been a kind housemaid to Curly. Curly hired Matilda and her husband Cranky to take good care of the mansion as it was so large and Curly barely has time to clean it herself. Curly even allowed the donkey couple to reside in a decent cottage nearby the mansion. Since then, Matilda and Cranky put in a lot of effort in working to show how much they appreciated Curly. Feather saw the donkey couple as his uncle and aunt as they take good care of him while Curly had to go on business trips or attend other matters.

"It's so wonderful for you to move back here, Feather!" Matilda said as she gave Feather a kiss on the cheek. He didn't mind as he was used to Matilda's kisses.

"Granny did give me the mansion, so I thought it would be best to head back here and help you and Cranky out on taking care of the place."

"Your grandmare would've appreciated that." Matilda said in a sad tone. "Even though it's already a week since the funeral, it felt like it was yesterday when I saw her coffin getting buried."

Feather breathed heavily. "It was tough for me to see. But I'm here now."

Matilda smiled as she was glad that Feather was cheering up. "Splendid! Let's go inside and make you some lunch! You must be starving from your drive here!" Matilda and Feather walked up to the mansion's entrance.

"Oh, that reminds me!" Matilda said in realization. "Your grandmare's last gift is inside! You're going to be really excited for what it is!"

"Is it that golden retriever puppy that I have always wanted ever since I was a foal?" Feather joked.

"No, but it's something way better!" Matilda said as she turned on the lights at the side of the doors. Feather got startled when he suddenly heard some loud bangs.

Author's Note

The next chapter will reveal what will be Feather's surprise. I would also like to inform you guys that this is my first time writing an anthro fanfic. So that means that I might mess up on a few things that involve writing anthro fanfics. Updates for this story may come later as I got other stories to update.
