Brightburn: He's Not Here To Save The World
Brightburn flew out of the Canterlot High statue. "Well... I have a feeling I'm not in Kansas anymore", he said. He played a song on a phone he stole from his mother after her death.
Brightburn was literally dancing to the song. However, he noticed that despite it being a weekday, there was absolutely no one in the school. "Okay, is something going on that I'm not understanding?", he asked the ether. He then read the sign on the door: CLOSED DUE TO COVID-19. "Hmmm. Didn't think the virus made it this far. Excellent. Now, the Equestria Girls are sitting ducks." He put on his mask. Since he was not from Earth, he would probably be positively affected by the virus, but he still needed to cover his face so no one would recognize him. Additionally, he had a new suit, which was completely red, which was different compared to his suit in the film. He walked through the streets of Canterlot and heard crying coming from a house. He flew to the house and saw an odd-colored person with bacon-like hair.
Inside the house, Sunset Shimmer was crying over a message from Twilight just moments before her death.
Dear Sunset Shimmer,
I don't know how much longer I have. A pre-teen came to Equestria and unleashed bloody carnage. His name is Brightburn, but he might introduce himself as Brandon Breyer. He has a red suit and a mask made from a blanket. If you see him, run for your life. He is invulnerable to everything. Try to find a weakness if you can. Unfortunately, this is my final letter.

She eventually stopped crying and wore a look of absolute rage. She was going to avenge her late friend. She called the rest of the Equestria Girls and alerted them of the situation.
Outside, Brightburn was glowering behind the mask. He could see the message. "That fucking bitch", he cursed under his breath. He broke through the window. Sunset looked up at the alien that fit the description of Brightburn. "We can't have you telling everyone my secret, can we?" Sunset grabbed him and saw his past.
"Breaking news at this hour. A passenger jet has crashed in the small town of Brightburn, Kansas. Details are still coming in, but there are believed to be no survivors among the 268 passengers on board. Investigators are not yet sure what caused the plane to drop suddenly from the sky and crash into this small family farm. Among the reported dead are the residents of the farmhouse, Kyle and Tori Breyer. They are survived by their 12-year-old son, Brandon", a news reporter said. Brandon was innocently sitting in the back of an ambulance, eating a cookie. No one realized that the cause of the sudden plane crash was the 12-year-old boy. However, there was one thing on his mind: world destruction. Eventually, he walked off, put on his new costume, and flew off. As days progressed, more and more of the world felt the wrath of Brandon Breyer.
She backed away. "You... you destroyed Kansas", Sunset said.
"Yes. It was easy. I was the only super-powered being", Brightburn replied.
"Well... hate to burst your bubble, asshole, but you're now in a city with not one, not two, but SEVEN SUPERHEROES! We will do our duty and defend the world with our dying breath!", Sunset bellowed. She fought Brightburn, but the alien was an absolute powerhouse of evil.
"Now... tell me where your friends are", Brightburn said. He choked the super-heroine.
"OkAy... OkAy...", Sunset said, and Brightburn eased his grip.
Some time later, Brightburn flew out of the house, leaving behind a mutilated Sunset Shimmer. However, once he flew out, he felt... strange, like the virus was giving him power. He took off his mask, took a deep breath, and his body started glowing a bright red color, like his blood was fusing with the virus. "This power... it feels... good", Brightburn said. The color of his suit began to change from blood red to pitch black. "Well... at least the rest of the Equestria Girls won't be able to recognize me."
The rest of the Equestria Girls saw the black-suited Brightburn (who was claiming he didn't kill anyone) and Sunset's house on the news, and without a second thought, they ran over only to find the rhythm guitarist completely obliterated. Their screams literally almost broke Brightburn's ear drums. "Goddamnit!", he said... loud enough to alert the Equestria Girls. The Equestria Girls looked in his direction... with venomous glares. "Oh, shit." Applejack delivered an uppercut, sending Brightburn flying upwards. Rarity shot diamonds at the supervillain, causing him to cry in pain. He landed with a crash. Rainbow Dash ran circles around him, making him dizzy. Pinkie Pie threw sugar bombs, inflicting damage to Brightburn. Twilight used her telekinesis to repeatedly smash Brightburn into the ground. Fluttershy somehow managed to summon a lion, which clawed at Brightburn, inflicting more damage. The six remaining super-heroines all circled Brightburn. "ENOUGH!" He unleashed a wave of energy that sent the Equestria Girls flying. It didn't take him long to realize that the Equestria Girls could legitimately harm him (and they were somehow immune to the virus). They were his weakness. Now that he thought about it, the Mane Six also inflicted serious damage to him. "No... impossible!"
"Not impossible, Brandon!", Twilight retorted. "We are the Equestria Girls, and the magic of friendship fuels our powers! We can... and will... end your reign of terror! We..." She couldn't finish her sentence... because Brightburn activated his heat vision and killed her. The others screamed.
"Dummy", Brightburn said. The rest of the girls ran for their lives. Brightburn then proceeded to destroy Sunset's house to cover up his tracks. He did the same thing to Twilight's house. He got a notification on his phone.
The mainstream media, as usual, tried to sell you all a load of BULLSHIT! Just like that half-man/half-sea creature capsizing fishing vessels in the South China Sea. Like, what we were just talking about last week: some kind of witch-woman who chokes people out with ropes and cords. They are all out there, they are all waiting, and they're all GONNA EAT OUR FUCKING BREAKFAST UNLESS WE GET OUR SHIT TOGETHER AND DO SOMETHING!
Five pictures of urban legends appeared: one of Brightburn (Brightburn was surprised to see his picture.), one of a red-clad person with a gun (Brightburn knew him as the Crimson Bolt, though he's a simple human... with an impressive arsenal.), an ancient picture of the witch woman (Who Brightburn somewhat knew about.), an obscured picture of an aquatic creature (Who Brightburn was curious about.), and a picture of an alien (Brightburn didn't rule out the possibility of another alien race.). There was also a blank space, leaving the possibility of a sixth urban legend. He mainly followed The Big T because he enjoyed watching him freak out about urban legends and say completely random stuff. "Hmmm... an alien invasion. I need a way to communicate with my brethren", Brightburn said. "Equestria is already cleansed of its defenders. Now it's Earth's turn. Once those seven girls are dead, my alien army will spread across the cosmos... and I will be a GOD! But, first things first..."
Brightburn flew over to Fluttershy's house, believing that she would be the easiest to capture. His plan was to capture all five of the remaining members of the Equestria Girls and kill them all at once. He was the predator, they was the prey. Like lambs to a slaughter. Fluttershy had locked the front door, but Brightburn simply used his telekinesis to blast the door off its hinges. Fluttershy backed away. "Come to me, my prey", Brightburn creepily said. Suddenly, something blasted him. He turned around, but he found no one there. Fluttershy ran into her bedroom. Brightburn was more focused on who attempted to attacked him. "Hello? Someone there? I know you're here. Come out and show yourself." A feminine figure appeared... with armor made from the same material as Brightburn's ship, just painted purple, though he could tell what material the armor was made of. His eyes widened in horror. "Fuck!" He flew off in the opposite direction, but the figure was much faster than him. "Who are you?!"
"You know who I am... Brandon", the figure said in a deep and booming voice. "You see this?!" She pointed at her right arm. It was completely metallic. "You did this to me!" She delivered a powerful kick to Brightburn's crotch, causing him to scream in pain. The figure then unsheathed a sword made from the same material as Brightburn's ship. In desperation, Brightburn zoomed around the house to look for anything he could use as a weapon, to no avail. Without hesitation, he rammed into the vigilante, unmasking her and revealing her youthful face.
"Caitlyn", he said.
"I am no longer Caitlyn. I... am... Catalyst!", the new super-heroine replied as she put her helmet back on. Superhero and supervillain fought through the house, trading blows as the house started to crumble.
"Caitlyn, stop! I don't want to fight you!", Brightburn said.
"You should've thought about that before you broke me!", Catalyst retorted as she gained the upper hand. Eventually, the roof collapsed, trapping Catalyst under some rubble. Without hesitation, Brightburn scooped Fluttershy into his arms and zoomed out of the destroyed building. He needed Fluttershy alive. Behind his mask, Brightburn's eyes filled with tears. His suit's color reverted back to its original red color.
At the school's gymnasium...
Brightburn nailed Fluttershy's hands and feet to a wall. "Who... was... that?", Fluttershy weakly asked as blood spilled from the holes Brightburn made in her body.
"Caitlyn Connor. My... love interest", Brightburn answered. He looked at the hammer in his hands. "I guess she doesn't share my feelings." He saw his blood on his knuckles. "That armor... it's made out of the metal that my ship was made of. It's my weakness."
"Well, we hurt you pretty bad at Sunset's house", Fluttershy quipped. In anger, he threw the hammer, which nearly smashed into Fluttershy's head.
"I loved her. She said that smart guys end up ruling the planet", Brightburn said. "Well... I believe her. Honestly, those words are still coursing through my veins. Now... my path is set. Equestria is already cleansed of its defenders. Now it's Earth's turn. Once you girls are dead, my alien army will spread across the cosmos... and I will be a GOD!"
"You'll never be a god", Fluttershy said.
"Maybe, maybe not", Brightburn replied. "Now... who's next?"
Meanwhile, the remains of Fluttershy's house started to slightly move. A purple hand emerged from the heap of rubble. Catalyst crawled out of the rubble. She coughed as she rolled onto her back. She stood up. She saw Brightburn flying towards Pinkie Pie's house. She took out a grappling hook and fired it. The grapnel grabbed Brightburn's left foot, and, using her strength, Catalyst slammed the supervillain down to the ground. Brightburn used his heat vision, but Catalyst's armor made her immune to her foe's attacks. Using her metallic arm, she punched Brightburn in the face, sending him flying. She unsheathed her sword and sliced Brightburn's right hand and back. Brightburn grabbed the sword and he and Catalyst played tug-of-sword with it. Because of Brightburn's superhuman strength, he was able to grab the sword. He attacked, but the sword shattered on impact. In desperation, he grabbed Catalyst and threw her at least 50 kilometers away from where he stood. "What the hell is her problem?!", he asked himself as he flew off. Blood spilled from his wounds. He stopped to heal himself, which was easier said than done. After a while, he flew off to capture the pink-haired high-schooler.
Pinkie Pie was armed to the teeth with various makeshift weapons. Honestly, she looked... goofy, to say the least. Night had already fallen, and she wasn't willing to be a part of Brightburn's carnage. Suddenly, creepy music started playing. It came from Brightburn's phone.
The virus had amplified Brightburn's powers, making him stronger, faster, and more deadly. Brightburn immediately laughed at the sight of the ridiculous-looking super-heroine. Tears streamed down his face as he fell on his back and laughed harder and harder. "Do you... do you honestly think... you can kill me... with CUPCAKES?!", Brightburn said in-between laughs. However, Pinkie threw a cupcake... and once it hit the laughing supervillain, it exploded, sending him flying. "Okay, then." Brightburn's expression quickly darkened. "I'll show you why they call me Brightburn!" He used his heat vision to set the house on fire. "I make fires that burn bright in the day and night!" He started rapping.
He then used his heat vision on Pinkie Pie, melting her "armor" off. He grabbed her by the throat and flew out of the house as it burned down to the ground.
At the school's gymnasium...
Brightburn nailed Pinkie's hands and feet to the wall where Fluttershy was pinned. She was to the left of Fluttershy (from Fluttershy's point of view).
Meanwhile, Catalyst woke up in the Everfree Forest. She had flown into a tree, which knocked her out. Her suit was destroyed. Despite the rocket boots being damaged, she flew back to Kansas and created a new suit using what was left of the ship. She upgraded the suit so it could withstand anything Brightburn threw at her. She painted it black. She put on a utility belt. She then put on a brand-new helmet, completely obscuring her face. She was reborn as... Darkcold.
Brightburn arrived at the barn, where his next victim awaited.
Suddenly, Darkcold landed on the roof of the barn, unbeknownst to Brightburn. She used a sound gun, which sent waves of echolocation towards Brightburn, which only annoyed him. He looked up. "Now that I have your attention", Darkcold said. She revealed a sentry, which fired 107 bullets in rapid succession. Brightburn immediately destroyed it, however. It was still dark out, so Brightburn couldn't even see Darkcold, though he could hear her. Her suit resembled a cat. She leaped down from the roof. She used smoke bombs to completely obscure Brightburn's view. She brandished claws and striked her foe, dealing some damage. Brightburn looked around at the smoke. He flew upwards to get a better view, but he still couldn't see Darkcold... though he could see Applejack. He dove towards the teenager and grabbed her. He flew high into the air. Suddenly, the grapnel from another grappling hook got caught on his right foot. "You're not going anywhere, motherfucker!" She yanked the cord, causing Brightburn to slam into the ground. She reeled him in, but Brightburn kicked her face, but the helmet protected her. Hero and villain fought hand-to-hand as Applejack hid in the cellar. Darkcold quickly gained the upper hand and was about to finish Brightburn, but he was able to kick her mask off and delivered a punch to her face, finally dealing some damage to Darkcold. Brightburn repeatedly punched his opponent's face without breaking a sweat. Suddenly, a lasso grabbed Brightburn's neck. It pulled him backwards, revealing Applejack using her super strength to choke Brightburn. He eventually freed himself and fought the two super-heroines. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, he was able to brutally injure Darkcold (though her armor was still intact) and subdue Applejack. He flew off with the defeated teenager (but not before burning the barn and the house nearby) as Darkcold put her helmet back on.
At the school's gymnasium...
Brightburn nailed Applejack's hands and feet to the wall where the others was pinned. She was to the right of Fluttershy (from Fluttershy's point of view). "Why didn't you finish her off?", Applejack asked.
"Because I have others matters to attend to", Brightburn answered. "Once the rest of you meddling heroes are vanquished, then I'll take down Darkcold."
When Brightburn made it to Rarity's house, it was encompassed in a massive diamond dome. However, there's nothing that Brightburn can't break. He easily broke through the crystal like it was nothing. He scanned the area looking for the teenager/fashionista. The crystal behind him repaired itself, meaning that he was trapped... or was Rarity trapped? Either way, he needed to prevent her from using her powers. He broke into the house with ease and saw the Element of Generosity projecting the dome. He delivered a roundhouse kick to the face, disrupting Rarity's powers and causing the dome to vanish. She used her crystallokinesis to create a sword. "Let's go", she said. Brightburn grabbed a crowbar.
"There's nothing I can't break", Brightburn said
He played music on his phone and the duel began.
While using a crowbar wasn't Brightburn's best idea, he was able to deal some serious damage to Rarity. He discarded the bloodied crowbar (he was surprised by how lethal a simple crowbar was) and picked Rarity up. She was unconscious and bloodied. Suddenly, someone entered the room. It was Sweetie Belle, Rarity's little sister. Without hesitation, Brightburn threw his hammer, knocking Sweetie Belle out. He picked her up and brought her to safety. His goal was to kill the Equestria Girls, not their relatives. Even supervillains have standards. He then picked Rarity (and his hammer) up, used his heat vision to set the house on fire, and zoomed off into the sunrise.
At the school's gymnasium...
Brightburn nailed Rarity's hands and feet to the wall where the others was pinned. She was to the left of Pinkie (from Pinkie's point of view), though there was a gap between the party girl and the fashionista. Immediately after he pinned Rarity to the wall, he fell to the ground and fell asleep. The Equestria Girls with him, despite their current situation, were also fast asleep.
About eight hours later, the gymnasium's inhabitants woke up. Brightburn obviously noticed that an Equestria Girl was missing: Rainbow Dash. Suddenly, something or someone broke into the school. Brightburn flew over to the hole that was made. "What the...", he started to say before being tackled by Apple Bloom. He shoved the teenager off of him, but she wasn't alone. Apparently, Sweetie Belle had regained consciousness and she and a couple of her friends decided that it would be a good idea to take on an extraterrestrial being. The three girls all wielded different weapons: Apple Bloom had a bow and arrows, Scootaloo had a tire iron, and Sweetie Belle had the crowbar Brightburn wielded during his duel with Rarity. "You've made a grave mistake", he growled. Despite the fact that the trio of freshmen in front of him were older than him, he was much smarter. "Apple Bloom. Sweetie Belle. I've captured your sisters. If you two and Scootaloo say anything, you're dead. If you value your lives, you will leave right now." However, the Cutie Mark Crusaders weren't fazed. "Fine." He telekinetically stuck the trio to a wall, and, using his heat vision, decapitated all three freshmen at once. This caused a headache, mainly because telekinesis and heat vision are both mind-based powers. This is why he pinned the Equestria Girls to a wall, so he could decapitate them without getting a headache, since he'd only be using his heat vision. Blood sprayed from the decapitated corpses as they fell to the ground. He fell to the ground as well. Suddenly, the virus began affecting Brightburn's body. He writhed on the ground, speaking in his alien language. He unleashed an inhuman roar as his body convulsed. Voices chanted in his mind, saying the same thing over and over again: "Take the world." The virus proceeded to upgrade his suit. Once the procedure was done, Brightburn had a sleek red suit. His eyes shot open as the supervillain zoomed out of the school.
By now, the residents of Canterlot had learned of Brightburn's carnage, so they tried to take matters into their own hands. Needless to say, it was a terrible idea, since Brightburn won, despite the battle taking a while to finish. 189 corpses littered the streets, including the families of the Equestria Girls (which meant that a good majority of the people weren't even from Canterlot, because Applejack's ENTIRE family was on the scene).
At Rainbow Dash's place, she saw on the news that Brightburn had killed 189 people. Despite the fact that he was in the background, it was as if Brightburn was looking at Rainbow Dash through the TV screen. A jumpscare then occurred with Brightburn leaping at the camera, causing the TV to shut off, presumably breaking the camera itself. After about three seconds, Brightburn knocked on the door... before busting it down. Rainbow Dash attempted to outrun the supervillain, but his speed matched her own. After a speedy chase around the house, Brightburn finally captured the athlete and set her house on fire. He then flew off with the final victim.
At the school's gymnasium...
Brightburn nailed Rainbow Dash's hands and feet to the wall where the others was pinned. She was between Pinkie and Rarity. "Finally! All of the original Equestria Girls are finally in my possession!", Brightburn said. "Since you five won't be able to stop me, I'll tell you my plan. Equestria is already cleansed of its defenders. Now it's Earth's turn. Once you girls are dead, my alien army will spread across the cosmos... and I will be a GOD! Now... time for your reckoning!" He used his heat vision to decapitate the remaining Equestria Girls. He then proceeded to rip off their arms and legs for good measure. He then zoomed around the world, finding various explosives. He planted them around the school. Once the task was done, he lit a fuse. The result? A sky-high explosion that unleashed an apocalyptic wave of destruction that destroyed Canterlot. The only thing that remained was the statue that served as a portal to Equestria. Brightburn smiled evilly at the carnage.
Suddenly, Darkcold grabbed Brightburn and the two superhuman beings fell to the ground. "This ends now!", Darkcold bellowed as she delivered a powerful punch to Brightburn's face, sending the young supervillain flying. However, Brightburn regained his footing and flew towards his opponent, repeatedly punching her helmet, trying to break it. She brandished her claws and raised them, but Brightburn grabbed her right arm and took off the gauntlet, revealing a human hand. It didn't take long for Brightburn to realize that he was fighting a human... but who? He tried to take off the helmet again, but a wrist blade extended from the left wrist and stabbed Brightburn in the stomach. However, he took off the helmet to reveal Caitlyn's face. His face welled with tears as he gently touched Caitlyn's face. Without a second thought, he hugged her. She slowly took out the blade as she realized what she's been doing: trying to kill the kid who thought of her as his only friend, despite what she did. She returned the embrace and cried into his chest as the wound healed itself.
"I never wanted to hurt you, Caitlyn. Why would I try to kill the only friend I've ever had?", Brandon asked. They separated and looked each other in the eyes. They shared a kiss. "I might be a megalomaniac, but I still love you very much, Caitlyn. You have no idea how much you mean to me. You're one of the only people in the world who truly understand how special I am. But someday, the entire universe will know my name." However, Caitlyn was critically injured after the fight at the barn. Brandon scooped her up in his arms and stumbled through the apocalyptic wasteland that was once Canterlot. "We need to get you to a doctor. Now."
Once they were outside of the "city", Brandon and Caitlyn dropped to the ground and breathed heavily. Caitlyn discarded her armor. Once Brandon regained his strength, he grabbed Caitlyn and flew off into the distance.
At the Brightburn hospital...
Brandon was sitting in a chair outside the room where Caitlyn was. He wore his suit behind some casual clothes. A doctor approached the off-duty supervillain. To prevent suspicion, he wore a medical mask. "How is she?", he asked.
"She's got a broken rib cage and spine, but she'll be fine. Looks like she got attacked by someone from Mortal Kombat", the doctor answered. Brandon heaved a sigh of relief.
A few hours later, Caitlyn was able to go home.
At the Connor residence...
"If I don't come back... make sure no one forgets me", Brightburn said. Caitlyn nodded. He put his mask on and flew off into the night sky. He flew outside of the Earth's atmosphere and past Pluto. He flew into the vastness of space.
Meanwhile, the Treehouse of Harmony began glowing. Thirteen wisps of magic leaked from it and flew off in different directions. They revived the Mane Six and the Equestria Girls. After realizing that Brightburn was going to annihilate the entire universe, Twilight reassembled her friends and went through the portal to Earth. It took a while for Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, and Rarity to get used to their human bodies, but they eventually got the hang of it. The Equestria Girls that got killed in the school approached the humanized ponies. They found Sci-Twi and Sunset and the demolished Shimmer residence. They looked upwards.
