Spike is a demon, there is no two way about it. Spike didn't realise his demon blood would effect his estrus.
For the dragon's it's heat season (or estrus) one familiar dragon tho, doesn't seem to even react to his estrus. Spike's mother princess Celestia and her students and her friend's set out to find out why, Spike's estrus is not affecting him.
