470. K-9 Comics all-star heroes issue 1: Mega Mechanikat Mangling!
Previous ChapterNext Chapter-World Where Dreams Can Come True (Provided you work for them), Camden Town, 101 Dalmatian Street, Da Vinci Dalmatian-
“Do you think we should eventually tell Dolly about the comic books we’re making about her and Ditto’s adventures?” At least I think our copycat sister Ditto Dalmatian was certainly doing a good job of keeping the Caper Canine name alive, despite not exactly having Dolly’s talents or exact capabilities. She did have a skateboard with the electrum varnish and some magical ability to make it hard to destroy. Ditto’s glamour magic was really coming along otherwise and the illusions she can cast were helping her stay safe in dangerous situations.
“I’m sure Dolly will be fine with it once she learns of its existence.” Deepak stated solemnly as he hummed to himself and sat in a meditative position. “Besides the Mighty Ducks Team has their own comic book of their whole backstory and nobody thinks it’s real. I’m pretty sure Dolly would have even insisted on it… at least Hunter is making sure we get at least three copies of every issue you make set aside.”
That was one for the family, one for the artist which was me to personally sign and eventually an entire collection for Dolly if she wanted to read Ditto’s adventures in mimicking her Caper Canine identity. Of course I wasn’t going to give away the location of our home in the comic book and some details were greatly exaggerated, also I liked the fact that a lot of people do appreciate my artwork.
“Is the next issue of K-9 Comics out?!” Dizzy stated excitedly.
“Is it going to be about how Ditto accidentally ended up in Morocco hunting ancient mystical artifacts with some treasure hunters?” That was quite terrifying situation Deedee.
It was a good thing Mr. McDuck ran across Ditto in Morocco… he even dropped Ditto off on the way back to Duckburg which was rather nice of him. Caper Canine even made the news for assisting the McDuck family with the F.O.W.L agent Black Heron, a bunch of Jiangshi that mailed themselves there for completely unrelated reasons, a whole slew of other weird things like a butter ghost, a giant were-squirrel which was basically the average size of a normal biped and a nightingale that was friends with the Rescue Rangers and a Rescue Aid Society member named Chirp Sing who was related to the whole reason for the Jiangshi being in Morocco thing.
Chirp Sing was now incidentally on our mailing list. So we knew the royal corgis personally, I think Ditto was dating the lonely prince. Now we know the mystical bird of a small time Chinese emperor, several super hero teams and a bunch of galaxy class treasure hunters. Life has been quite weird since we met Pom, but never was it ever boring.
“You two do realize I’m the one that makes those comics right? Also that two of our sisters are actually doing all these crazy things?” I could have lived without Launchpad almost crashing into our home though. Ditto was still taking a break from being Caper Canine here after that.
“You are so good at making those comics though! I just have to know about that whole Nessie adventure she had up in Scotland!” Dizzy stated with a smile and Deedee nodded happily alongside her sister. At least Scotland was closer and a quick boat and bus ride to get Ditto home from that particular incident where she got knocked out and fell into a cargo plane. “We also love you’re artwork and we’re you’re biggest fans!”
“You’re family, of course you’re somewhat obligated to like me!” I sighed happily and quickly brought Dizzy, Deedee and Deepak into a hug. “Hugs!”
“Hugs? Hugs!” A puppy poked their head in and before I knew it we were swarmed by affectionate brothers and sisters. Free hugs were always welcome here, especially since Dolly wasn't around to give them herself.
-Petopia, Paw-tucket airfield, Pom-
They made good time in getting Chase back to my staging area for this thing, he would live and was a brave little hero today. I’m so very thankful he didn’t get a blade through his throat and the explosion certainly saved his life more than it actually hurt him.
Dolly’s reaction to someone leading to a puppy getting hurt, provided it wasn’t her that did it, would hit her berserk button quite hard. I’m fairly sure she only broke Snooky’s face before starting on the way here, when she got here all four of Snooky’s legs looks to be either broken, dislocated or both at the same time... also something was up with the cats spine.
“Uh…” I was going to ask, but Marshall cut in.
“Dolly accidentally dropped Snooky in an alleyway… a few times, maybe ‘accidentally’ slammed a dumpster lid on his spine... she was being really quite clumsy with him.” Anyone could probably see why Marshall was shivering and had a disturbed look on his face. Skye however didn’t seem nearly as perturbed.
“If you’re wondering, I’ve seen worse from flying vehicle crashes.” Skye certainly didn’t think anything of Snooky’s mangled form.
Also this would be a lesson to anyone to not make Dolly angry… probably would have done the same thing myself just to make sure Snooky wouldn’t continue being quite a little threat.
“Skye… I’m sorry to ask this of you, but I’m going to need you back in the air soon, with your jetpack.” I saw a firm look on the tiny dogs face, she wasn’t afraid of what I was going to ask her to do. “We need you to either draw or stall Mechanikat here at this intersection… he’s already approaching it so the need to lure him in shouldn’t be an issue.”
“Ready to go when needed!” Skye announced while puffing out her chest, these alien puppies were adorable.
“Marshall you’re on medical and after all of this is over, I’m going ask that you to teach medical treatment here in Paw-tucket. You don’t have to, but I think it would really help the pets if their owners get hurt in incidents like what we’re experiencing.” I saw the spark of life return to Marshall’s eyes as he nodded and went over to Chase. “Dolly take five.”
“I’ll take twenty… my body is hurting after being near so many missile explosions… glad I put some sound dampening earplugs in before doing all of this.” At least Dolly had some forethought to use something like that.
“Udder Chaos now would be a good time to get in there!” I called out over Roxy’s paw pad.
-Paw-tucket city, frontlines, Bev-
Pets were running past my slingshot set up towards the pitching machines with pet made sports javelins, far more lightweight than normal javelins our owners could use, and normally they would have rounded blunt ends… but apparently they were sharpened for this special occasion.
They had to modify the pitching machines while they were quickly being pulled away from the cat-bots, but that was mostly just removed the hoppers and shoving the javelin pointy end first into the ball launching mechanism. The Pets that actively went to fetch ammo for the pitching machines were brave, I was about to be one of the brave ones myself.
It was a little slower, but a second later several javelins fired out and pierced through several cat-bots with javelins going at least sixty to seventy in speed. The javelins were heavier than the all the sporty spheres we’ve been sending out, but they had a far more devastating impacts on the cat-bots despite what would be a slow fire rate to get them loaded up for firing from our cannons.
While many other pets were fleeing the cat-bot army, I was still prepping to launch myself into the fray with some jump ropes as my only weapon. Every derby team pet had several too. Topple, smash and evade any explosions we caused, that was our game plan and I was all for getting my adrenaline up.
This was going to be as or more dangerous as bungie jumping, sky diving or skiing… and I was all for it!
Jade’s team finally ran out of stuff to throw as I could see them evacuating across the rooftops, I wonder how they even got that sofa up there…
Anyway they were definitely going to avoid the giant cat robot slowly smashing Paw-tucket to pieces that we couldn’t quite stop yet. Once we dealt with the cat-bots we can focus on bringing that building sized behemoth down.
“Hey guys on the pitching machines, I’m going out, check you’re fire!” I hopped and then found myself rocketing forward. I saw the derby teams go out. The roller derby teams set out and were on the attack for the remaining cat-bots, they didn’t make it through Jade’s forces very well at all. Wolfram and his team were looking good today, love to see the Havoc Howlers in action as they started tearing apart the remaining cat-bots. “Wahoo!”
Couldn’t entirely pull myself into my shell, but that’s because I was wearing skates and a helmet, I would be too slow to escape the cats otherwise as I rocketed through their numbers rebounding off of multiple cat-bots knocking them over or denting them. Good thing my shell was tougher than their metals or else this wouldn’t have worked.
I eventually came to a stop skidding along the back of my shell and a cat-bot glaring down at me. I grinned up at him and tried to roll myself back over.
“Bev, grab on!” Udder Chaos came flying in and whipped the end of the jump rope my way, I clamped down on it with my mouth and I was pulled away before the cat-bot could put its fist through me. It went into the street instead and got stuck. I was flipped onto my feet and I started skating alongside my cow friend. “You okay?”
“You know me, I’m always in it for the rush!” Today was quite a rush no less, several derby teams were toppling cat-bots all over the place by attacking their legs with the jump ropes. I always wondered if underwater basket weaving had other applications, those jump ropes were sturdy enough to survive the cat-bots trying to tear them apart as they kept getting knocked over.
“Go low!” Right boss lady Udder Chaos, I held my end of the robot and skidded between the legs of a cat-bot and used my momentum to swing around its left leg back the way I came and towards safety. Udder Chaos did the rest turning it into a tied up metal ball.
“Everyone get clear, I need a pitcher to hit this one!” Udder Chaos screamed out, she seemed to be on the ball as I let go of the rope and she finished tying the cat-bot off despite wearing skates. Wow she was really talented to have done that with her tongue.
I followed after my cow companion a second later a javelin landed and hit something important, because the cat-bot took out several around them. In fact the cat-bot had been set up so well that it took out more than I thought it would have, Udder Chaos really lives up to her name!
We continue to trip and or knock down cat-bots and were taking down quite a number of them even without the support fire of the javelins.
-Bat-cow-
Bev was always an action seeker and I had to look out for her, Fran and Hiss weren’t doing too bad and were watching each other’s backs. Miss Hiss needs to work on her stopping, but in this case it was preventing her from getting grabbed, punched or kicked as she frantically changed directions faster than anyone could expect of her.
It was hard to disappear so I could put on my actual gear… Ace the bat hound will never let me live this down if he wasn’t busy. Being an above average intelligent cow because of a mind control experiment gone wrong making me smart wasn’t how I thought my life would go, I’m fairly certain Alfred was aware of my more curious activities.
The pets of Paw-tucket were doing their best, but they needed me to not be in a roller derby uniform. Still we were almost finishing off the remaining cat-bots, the Paw-tucket Pet Patrol could actually take care of them.
I veered off into an alleyway and watched as Bev retreated towards the pitcher machines with Fran and Hiss. I was just making sure my friends, that weren’t from the league of super pets, were okay.
Moving over to a nondescript brick wall, I pulled off one of my skates and started tapping the bricks. It opened up to reveal a technology capacity beyond what Paw-tucket was normally capable of. It was my little bat supply depot like what my owner has all over Gotham.
I, took off my helmet, pulled on a cowl and cape, got out a grappling hook, picked up a thirty bat-a-rang variety pack, some lightweight yet highly sturdy body armor and a few gadgets that would help with detaining the maniacal cyborg menace inside the giant robot.
Knowing the plans as well as I do, I knew when my moment would come. You were not coming back to this world again if I had anything to say about it Mechanikat!
-Mega Mechanikat, Mechanikat-
“Mahaha, I do so love to watch them squirm and flee from my might, they can deal with my cat-bots all they want, but they can’t deal with the Mega Mechanikat!” At this point I was just in it for the destruction, some part of me knew there was no taking this world if I lose this machine, but at least my ship was well guarded and these pesky animals weren’t capable of taking me down with their showing thus far.
A bunch of flying hamster wheels dropped small explosions across the armor of the Mega Mechanikat and it did nothing.
Even their flying hamster wheels couldn’t do any damage to the majestic might of…
Is that a Ferris wheel?!
The small hamster wheel bombardment had been a temporary distraction from dodging the incoming attack.
-Moments earlier, Paw-tucket’s pet based theme park, Scoot Racoonerson-
“He’s in range and everyone is clear, launch it!” Didn’t need to tell me twice Pom.
“0kay, guys pull it free!” Several animals dressed in engineering uniforms and hard hats pulled a lever and the rapidly spinning Ferris wheel went flying forward at full speed as it rolled away from the theme park. With how slow that giant robot is, there was no way it was dodging that Ferris wheel. One that had been slightly modified to be heavier.
“Direct hit, you knocked it over and damaged its legs and arms!” Edie called out through our paw pads and my engineering team cheered, as did a lot of other surrounding pets that helped out with our first setup to deal with the oversized alien conqueror robot. “Oh no, it’s getting back up. Repeat, damaged, but not done pushing the wheel off to the side! At least the Cat-bots are almost finished and it’s encroaching the front lines almost alone. No news from the infiltration teams yet, but I’m sure that’s actually good news. It would be bad if we can hear that they’ve been caught.”
Trip and Quincy were two of my best friends, I hoped they were alright in there.
“Sunil, this is Scoot, the cat-bots are about finished. Time for your part pull our people out of the fray and finish off the bots, then we’ll launch the second setup when the massive mechanical monster is in range of it!”
“Yes, the guild of magical pets is ready, please standby for confirmation to pull everyone out of the combat zone!” Sunil the mongoose was a strange one, but he was one of the more mystically inclined pets and probably knew a few things about the mysteries of Paw-tucket and how it worked.
-Paw-tucket lake, Sunil-
“Okay everyone, hats out, we’re going to pull every pet out of the combat zone!” I turned to Ocellus. “Ms. Ocellus if you would…”
Ocellus groaned, but quickly clamped her mouth shut as her cheeks filled with the magic in the air, she swallowed and sat in the middle of the circle.
“When you’re ready!” I said with slightly chipper tone, Ocellus opened her mouth wide and lit her horn to start concentrating.
Soon pets started appearing a foot or two above the lake, a lake that was already prepared to take them. We already had aquatic pets in the lake to make sure nobody is drowning as we cleared the combat zone for the second setup, it’ll wipe out the remainder of the cat-bots and do some damage as the Ferris wheel had. Various magical animals were directing the power of friendship to save those who needed to be saved.
Any animal on the ground or trapped on the rooftops were teleported out, anyone that could fly would be staying for distraction reasons.
After successfully evacuating all our friends, we were to finish preparations for setup four.
-Paw-tucket ski resort, Everest of Paw Patrol-
“This is Everest, I don’t know how to feel about this… I’m usually saving people from disasters, not causing them.” Seeing the warm smile I was getting Pom, did lighten my mood a little bit. “How’s chase?”
“It would scar if we didn’t have those Sitrus Berry things, but he’ll make a full recovery.” Marshall stated from next to Pom. “We’re down two pup packs though.”
“That’s half good to hear Marshall!” Now I looked over the snow pets and all the preparations we had set up for what would be the largest unnatural disaster to hit Paw-tucket, that’s even counting the giant robot currently having set more than a quarter of the pet city on fire. All of said fires would at least be put out by this. “We’re ready to launch setup two.”
“Hold for a minute…” Pom stated and looked off to the side. “Wait until he’s in position and for my signal. Everyone’s clear that’s going to be clear?”
“Confirmed!” Sunil stated brilliantly, he was a really cool guy to hang out with.
There was a silence and several long minutes of explosions and flames rising from Paw-tucket, the snow bound pets were getting antsy.
“Okay guys, winter is coming!” That was the signal and Pom said the words to confirm.
“Unleash the snow boulder avalanche!” I called out and several pets started pulling small blocks out, but it seems that the snow had melted together and gotten stuck. “Oh no… the snow is stuck!”
“Ahem, thought this would happen so that’s why I set up a concert here earlier in the day… AWOOOOOYEAHHHH~!” Zoey Trent, a somewhat popular dog around Paw-tucket, roared into a microphone and several speakers blasted the snow with sound and loosened it up quite a bit.
A few seconds later the intended disaster started occurring.
-Paw-tucket city, Mega Mechanikat, Mechanikat-
It was only a mild set back, the robot was still more than eighty percent operational, though I did lose the flamethrowers.
Now where were all the pets in the city and why did it seem so… what’s that rumbling?
Turning the head of the robot to the left, something massive, white and moving at incredible speeds.
The impact basically disabled the left arm of my most impressive and massive machine.
Do they honestly think a bunch snow would stop the Mega Mechanikat!
I slowly got my mechanical majesty of my own visage standing again, they’ll have to do better than that to bring down the great Mechanikat!
- Paw-tucket ski resort, Everest-
“That’s a negative on stopping him, I think we took out the left arm with that impact though!” I said while looking through the binoculars. “Left leg isn’t doing so hot either. Look at it this way Marshall, we put out all the fires and I don’t think he’ll be starting any more!”
“Well that’s good at least.” Marshall whined, I’m going to give him a big affectionate cuddle the next time I saw him in person. “At least the snow will eventually melt.”
-Paw-tucket airfield, Pom-
“Okay, setup three is on, don’t know if we’re going to do enough damage at this point. Edie do not endanger yourself or your friends unnecessarily for this setup!” I said into the paw pad as I turned to Skye. “Like I said earlier Skye, we’re going to need you and some of the birds to hold Mechanikat’s attention or else this won’t work. Get him to stay in one general place long enough for the third setup to hit that thing. You can use your jetpack now as you see fit.”
Setup four is what will absolutely exhaust Ocellus and all the magical pets, but at that point if that thing isn’t slowed to a literal crawl for Dog Star to deal with… well we’ll deal with that when we get there. More like I’ll deal with it when I get there.
“This dog was meant to fly!” Skye immediately took off from the ground as her jetpack launched her towards the city.
“How long will it take Brainy?” Since we needed to hit the target with something large, my previous idea was a ballista with full sized logs using some pet beavers help.
“Two and a half minutes, I’ll get into position to aim and my team up there will get them moving.” Instead, with Brainy’s permission, we changed the third setup slightly.
The defense satellites Dog Star Patrol put up were only meant to protect against things coming in from space, they had no capability of firing through or even in an atmosphere and were only pointed outwards and are kind of just sitting up there uselessly. The Dog Star Patrol members in orbit were working on making sure that the defensive net Mechanikat bypassed with Snooky’s help was about to come back to bite him for not dealing with it fully, as there were plenty of satellites to utilize for this and they were made for surviving atmospheric reentry. Since they were, of course, fire hydrant shaped like their base was.
The makeshift ballista was now plan five if we needed it and Scoot Racoonerson was waiting for the okay on it. Marshall would be making that call in case we fell in battle and would be attending to Chase’s injuries with Sitrus Berry juice until it would come to that point.
After setup four is when Dog Star Patrol will get into the fight, along with anyone who could survive being that close to the colossus. Which will be including me, as I could get in close and howl breaker a large part of the machine apart. My throat was going to be killing me afterwards, but it wasn’t like a large part of my diet didn’t involve Sitrus Berries at this point.
“Mom, we’re in process of completing the takeover of the spaceship. Not many complications to speak of, they didn’t see this coming at the very least or their security is just that bad.” Good to hear Dormarch, if Mechanikat tries to run he’s going to find a door slammed in his face. “This guy is nowhere near as threatening as Moon Cell was… I was the only reason we were able to even be a big problem for Moon Cell. The coding on this ship is like someone tied a bunch of tissue paper together, threw it in a toilet and then said that was good enough as far as security goes while flushing it down.”
If Dormarch hadn’t been rendered as a partial servant due to what Moon Cell did with his body, then we wouldn’t have been able to take that territory or have Castle Alexander to support our foray into the various realms of Moon Cell. We wouldn’t have any advantages pushing forward, there was some wonder as to how much harder that would have been.
All of that stuff was still very clear in Dormarch’s mind despite trying to relax over these last few days and simply be a fun loving puppy and not an anxiety riddled paranoid person like me. I hope he gets over those nightmares soon, even sleeping cuddled up to me isn’t helping him.
“Good to hear Dormarch, you keep up the good work and make sure to lockdown the ship.” My poor little three tailed wonder would always make me proud. “We’re about to start our final two ploys and then I’ll be heading out on hoof to help deal with the problem personally.”
“At least it probably won’t be able to walk after that, but I don’t doubt that it’ll still be dangerous mom… be please careful.” Does Dormarch realize that if I wasn’t careful, I’d be out there trying to figure out a way to fight something that has several thousand tons on me without inevitably resorting to my bark or howl breaker attacks? Also that I’d be doing it entirely by myself?
No I definitely was careful and had planned most of this out. There were still a few iffy things to worry about, but Brainy was spot on with what they were going to try here and I had planned for giant robot. Said plans were even successful, but they hadn’t stopped this Mechanikat guy yet so we needed a lot more oomph.
My time on Elhorn has taught me that there was no kill like overkill when it came to facing giant robots.
-In space, currently outside Dog Star Patrol’s fire hydrant shaped headquarters, Paw Pooch-
We made sure the prisoner was still confined, we might have even went overboard on that front considering how many ways they’ve circumvented our security before. Agent Del still tried, but failed horribly as Brainy had upped the security to ludicrous levels for the particularly crafty brand of geniuses we were dealing with.
So to that end I was now out in space and orienting the satellites for a ‘Skyfall’ protocol using multiple legs growing from my body to extend out into space. Sure it was really cold, but I could create as many legs and paws as my heart could handle and that was at least twenty. My particular species was good at multitasking with so many legs to work with.
I had several extended noodle like legs that were all quite ready to throw the satellites into set falls, I was just waiting for Brainy or Hot Dog to signal it. I’m glad that I’m not the one that had to calculate all of this stuff.
I mean there’s getting them into the atmosphere, the time from here to even get to the Mega Mechanikat which was still mobile and there was a whole lot of other stuff to worry about like was the cost worth using our satellites for this purpose? Well it’s not like the satellites were going to get much use elsewhere, this is a magical pocket system, it was quite hard to get into in the first place and we were going to make sure Mechanikat couldn’t do so again after this.
It was all a big headache, so that’s why I’m aiming for general vicinity and hoping they can be redirected by Brainy when they are far enough down there.
Brainy’s telekinesis had quite a bit of range on it, so she could just simply nudge them in the right direction. Of course her level of power was far more subtle than raw.
“Okay Paw Pooch, start throwing them!” Hot Dog ordered, guess Brainy was moving into position to direct them into Mechanikat. Our fireball spewing secondary leader gave the order and I started to heave the satellites down into the atmosphere.
-Paw-tucket airspace, Skye-
I watched as the large bipedal machine piloted by a cyborg cat swung at the birds harassing him. All we had to do was keep it in place for three minutes and Dog Star Patrol would get the drop on that giant robot in a literal fashion.
Pom wanted the pets to show their stuff, well they had mostly wiped out the cat-bot army and any possibility of more being built if they’ve taken the ship. This was the one thing in particular that was something they simply didn’t have many ways to deal with, though the first two efforts were good showing what they could come up with when pressed.
We were going to have to keep it in place somehow...
“Wow, I’ve never seen something so ugly in my life!” I swear the entire machine’s eyes lit up as it seemingly glared at me, it tried to swat me out of the air with a massive claw from the right arm. Everest said the left was rendered inoperable due to the snow boulder and avalanche.
“What you are looking upon is the grand visage of your conqueror mutt, there is nothing Dog Star Patrol currently has that can stop my mighty machine!” This Mechanikat guy says that now, but… a second snow boulder, without an avalanche of snow this time, slammed into its left leg and almost toppled it. Instead it force the machine onto its left knee. “Grrr… if I had long range weapons on this thing, I’d blast that entire mountain down. Snooky was supposed to get around to adding them onto this Mega Mechanikat when we took this world. The last one would never have been hampered quite like this!”
“Like that’ll ever happen, you’re big tin can won’t be able to handle what’s coming to it!” I shouted as I dodged several more claws swipes from the right arm as the machine got back up on its feet. Having already working out the air turbulence it would cause in its passing, I used my knowledge of aeronautics to my advantage to stay airborne and safe.
“That coming from a miniscule cretin like you? Well you certainly are quite a yappy one, what do you think you are capable of… aside from flying around and looking cute?” Well for one Mechanikat I was distracting you from the five flaming objects quickly coming out of the sky. “Do you have super strength, do you have size increasing power, do you spew fireballs, do you telekinetically control things, what is it that a tiny little insignificant thing like you have that makes you a Dog Star Patrol viable here? Please, humor me as you aren’t obviously equipped with any weapons that can deal with me here and they wouldn’t let a normal dog in their ranks given the dangers involved.”
“Oh, I’m not from Dog Star Patrol or planning on joining them, I’m from a rescue service team called Paw Patrol… though our team is definitely going to be allies with Dog Star Patrol moving forward. My specialty is in flying vehicles, might even include spaceships in that eventually.” That and I’m quite good at using my personal flight pack, which is currently being used to dodge a major threat.
“Then why am I bothering with you?” Well one would think it’s because of calling you're giant machine ugly?
“Since you obviously don’t know about the cow climbing up the left shoulder of your machine?” I blinked and even looked at the cow with a bat shaped cowl and cape slowly climbing the machine.
“Hah, I would have noticed if something that heavy was clambering around on the Mega Mechanikat due to the weight sensors.” Yet there was a cow and you weren’t noticing it, said cow stopped and glanced at the incoming fireballs being redirected by Brainy Barker. She was aiming to take out one of the legs of the Mega Mechanikat.
The cow turned to me and nodded with a grim look on her face, while motioning to keep Mechanikat talking. She had to be a Paw-tucket pet given her current size. The whole magical size and shape thing didn’t happen to alien dogs or outsiders who get here through unique methods apparently.
“Isn’t that limb on your piece of junk damaged though? I mean the sensors could be all kinds of messed up.” I hovered away from another claw swipe. Just had to keep him distracted, because the cow obviously had ideas if the incoming meteoric strike didn’t work. “Also the cow is on your left shoulder now.”
“Now that you mention it…” The head of the machine turned and saw that the cow was glaring at him. “B-b-b-bat-cow, how?! You shouldn’t be here… but, huh, you’re as small as almost everyone else on this pocket world planet.”
“Size doesn’t matter here Mechanikat, what matters is that you entered my jurisdiction again… I thought ‘Ace the Bat Hound’ and I taught you quite a few lessons about not underestimating us.” Bat-cow stated gruffly as she stared flatly at Mega Mechanikat’s head. “Do you want me to help you with reliving those lessons right now?”
“Well it’s not like you can sit on me again with how small you are, it took a week to get the stench out from last time!” The right limb raised and slung towards Bat-cow.
Bat-cow turned towards me raised something in her left hoof and a grapple hook soon clamped onto my pack without damaging it. I quickly burst away from the large robot as it almost tore off its own arm trying to hit Bat-cow who I was now helping move through the air.
Apparently Bat-cow’s cape transformed into a glider making maneuvering easier for me. With her free hoof, she started throwing several bat shaped things into the eyes of the massive machine.
“Really now, you think that blinding the cameras with a bunch of those little annoying silly metal bats is going to… gah?!” The following staccato of five impacts were music to my ears.
The right leg was torn apart below the knee by three fire hydrant shaped masses slamming into it back to back. The heavily damaged left arm was almost taken off entirely by one after the right arm damaged the left enough, on top of the earlier damage it took from the Ferris wheel. The last hydrant shaped mass toppled the machine onto its face when it hit dead center of the machine’s back.
“Swing me around for where the left arm used to be, I’m going to get inside through there!” Bat-cow called out and I did so with flying after me like a kite and eventually I got her angled for the left arms stump and bat-cow glided into a small space in the stump she managed to squeeze into. “It’ll take some time to cut my way in, but I will reach him. Continue to keep him busy Ms. Holley!”
“Wait, you know my full name?!” I didn’t know how Bat-cow could possibly know that. As a cockapoo, that lived nowhere near where Bat-cow does.
“You’re team does good work!” Bat-cow stated back to me and that was the last I heard of her as the robot started sitting up. I quickly flew out of the way of another swatting attempt by the right claw and then was almost struck by the large mechanical tail only to be pulled out of the way by some kind of force.
“Be a bit more careful you almost got taken out by the machine’s tail… and apparent spare leg.” Brainy stated as she let go of her powers hold on me so that I could hover next to her. We both watched as the large metal tail extended to make up for the portion of the lost right leg. “If Super Dog were available to be here, he’d be capable of dealing with this on his own at this point.”
“Oh right, you know the Super Dog, what’s he like?” I asked as I hovered next to the older Brainy Barker.
“Oh he’s quite super indeed.” Why was Brainy’s face turning as red as Dolly’s around Tusky? “I’ll tell you when you’re older.”
She read my mind… cool!
We both swiftly moved out of the way of swinging right claw of the Mega Mechanikat.
“Apparently you were not nearly distracted enough, if you hadn’t noticed I’m not quite through yet, so stop ignoring me!” Which was rather apparent, but you had to admit that the large robot was moving even slower now. “Wait… where’s Bat-cow? No matter, as long as she is too small to sit on me again.”
“Leap Lamb says five minutes to curtain call, then the dogs will be off the leash!” Edie called out from nearby, so that was for the fourth setup. Now we had to distract him for five more minutes and his mobility is quite hampered.
-Nearby, Ocellus-
How did I let Pom talk me into this? Oh right, she said I could use a lot of magic and be a focus for all of the magic pet guild for a single powerful magical attack… all I could really think about was friendship rainbow lasers.
So let’s go with that and the fondness I feel for all of these animals and how my teacher Fluttershy would love to be in a world like this one, cute, adorable and very little danger aside from extenuating circumstances such as Pom existing.
Now I’m going to take the feelings of love, friendship and acceptance… then blow a large chunk out of a robot with it.
All I had to do was not miss, no pressure… heh, it was kind of hard to miss with friendship guided lasers.
-Front line, Pom-
I trudged across the snow with my right hind leg still feeling the pain of it being moved by my wool, but I wasn’t chancing it moving it without my wool until I had fully recovered.
Following me were Tusky Husky, Hot Dog and Mammoth Mutt, all of them rather descriptive of what their abilities were.
Hot Dog was keeping warm on the snow covered streets by igniting his body, Mammoth clamped onto my wool and Tusky was used to brisk weather… and absolute zero temperatures of being in space.
We could see the Mega Mechanikat was properly distracted by Brainy and Skye.
We were soon joined by Shanty, Dodo and Smolder it looks like they were ready to end this.
“The straggler cat-bots be being taken care of!” Shanty stated with a cheerful lilt as she shouldered her can scythe.
Dodo probably warbled the words ‘he helped’ cheerfully, no actual talking from our biomechanical friend and he probably ate some of the cat-bots. At least they didn’t seem to be intelligent.
“Wasn’t that hard a job Pom. Nice turn out by the way, very dragon!” A grinning Smolder was talking about the utter destruction of our enemy. “Come on, let’s watch what’s about to happen next! Ocellus is about to fire whatever magic attack she has going on and she’ll likely take out the remaining good arm with it!”
“Well okay then, I can tell we all want to advance.” I was still fairly upset about these events, because this Mechanikat interrupted my vacation with an alien invasion on what was supposed to be a safe world. I’ll mostly let the others take care of this unless they needed my help. “Also Smolder gets dibs on dealing with Mechanikat.”
“Score!” Smolder didn’t get to do enough, but she’s been there with us through thick and thin, plus I seriously doubt anything Mechanikat personally has could actually hurt Smolder. You know, aside from the giant robot that is, mostly by just taking her out with crushing force.
“I be calling first dibs on spending time with Pom next!” Shanty stated.
“Okay, deal!” Smolder nodded and shook Shanty’s hoof on it.
I rolled my eyes and went back to paying attention to Sky and Brainy flying circles around the robot, Brainy was telekinetically throwing things at the robot mostly destroyed cat-bots and large pieces of rubble. Not doing much damage, but it was very distracting.
Dodo warbled questioningly and looked around.
“Dolly is tired and resting, Dormarch is busy making sure Mechanikat doesn’t have a ship anymore.” After answering his question, Dodo opened his beak and hacked up a heart shaped apple tart for me.
“Thanks Dodo, I do kind of need a snack.” I nibbled at it as we approached the mechanical menace stuck in a snow covered intersection and just got hit by snow boulder, I think that was third one and that one dented it’s chest.
We sat down in the snow, most of which was melting around Hot Dog, and we watched as Mega Mechanikat failed about. Trying to flail the right arm or occasionally swing the tail at the two still danger dodgers in the air. Brainy was much slower, but she was still effectively avoiding the damaged robot.
“This is kind of sad.” Roxy said from next to me and I blinked at her. “Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to approach that thing, but I do want to be here to watch a super villain be defeated!”’
I mentally tagged Dolly and asked her for one of her magic spells, she said it was okay to borrow it immediately and sent it along through our bond.
“I’m going to make Mega Mechanikat an easier target for Ocellus, don’t bother me while I’m doing this or I might lose my concentration.” Putting my front hooves to my chest I started chanting, the other dogs of Dog Star Patrol looked at me.
“Dolly can be sharing her abilities with Pom and Pom can be sharing her abilities with Dolly.” Shanty explained for me as I concentrated on the building sized robot.
“Float!” I took several steps forward, gave off a magical shine and cast said magic forth targeting the Mega Mechanikat with the spell. Sure it wasn’t going to last long since it was a fairly huge target, but it just became an even bigger target for Ocellus as it flailed helplessly into the air swinging it’s one arm, tail and left leg wildly.
-A distance away, Ocellus-
Well Pom or Dolly couldn’t make the target any easier to hit than a floating building sized robot… I think I understand what people mean when it comes to hitting the 'broad side of a barn' now.
“You know something, it feels like I should shout something when I do this…” I muttered as my body was about to practically explode with energy, which would be bad. “Friendship-… Beam-… Cannon!”
A beam arced away from me and the pets. The magic pet’s guild could have even feasibly done this on their own, I was just helping things along and pushing all the magical bloating my body out before it permanently made me fat.
Afterwards I felt completely and utterly drained.
I simply opened my mouth once and all my energy was back. I kept my mouth shut afterwards, even if I could refuel myself so easily, exhaustion was still a thing I had to deal with and I was going to get a nap in now.
-Mega Mechanikat, Mechanikat-
An antigravity device, since when?!
Is that a huge death laser?!
Huh, well played…
-Brainy-
Skye and I got clear as a spreading and widening laser hit the oversized machine and damaged its limbs even further than they already were, it was kind of impossible to miss with a beam of that size.
The torso landed on the ground, but it was still active, it was no longer capable of walking on its half broken tail.
“Okay, let’s get my vacation from trouble back on track by beating the ever loving snot out of this guy!” Pom was ferocious… it made her seem even more adorable and endearing somehow. “I’m not spending the rest of my days here rebuilding all of this, because you came down here to ruin things for everyone! Skye go back to Marshall, we’re taking it from here.”
I quickly joined Pom as the Mega Mechanikat rose up as much as it could and glared down at us.
-Mega Mechanikat, Mechanikat-
“Hah, even with all of that, you still haven’t defeated me!” Something exploded behind me and a grappling hook rose with Bat-cow into my control room from a hole in the floor. “One wonders... what did you even do to get here? I heard it requires a bond of... yuck... disgusting love and compassion to get here naturally, your 'bat' family are all business and being highly retentive about your feelings.”
“I bucked The Joker below the belt as hard as I could, he hasn't quite stopped walking funny yet.” Bat-cow declared flatly without a hint of amusement. “You’re under arrest Mechanikat, either come quietly or I will do my worst to see you behind bars for a long time.”
“Oh do go ahead, I think I can take on one little depowered cow and your size was basically all you had as a power!” A bat shaped bit of metal was slung at me and I jumped away from my chair to dodge it. “Missed me!”
“Wasn’t aiming for you.” Bat-cow stated with her eyes narrowing behind her mask.
“Mega Mechanikat head ejection system activated…” Announced a very unhelpful onboard computer and I looked at the bat shaped lump of metal sticking out of the ejection switch that had it locked in place.
I tried to quickly pull the bat shaped piece of metal out of the console and stop this from happening.
“Bloody hell, why did I even install that escape pod system switch in such an easy position to reach?!” It didn’t take me a few seconds to really think about it quickly. “Oh right, in case I was about to die… all good villains know where their escape systems are.”
“You mean the one I just recently sabotaged before coming into this control room?” Bat-cow just raised a brow at me delicately.
“Drat!” It could be my only response to what was about to happen.
-Pom-
“Okay, ready…” I stood in the snow covered streets ready to bum rush the machine when its head popped off in a blast of fire from its neck. It then split itself in half by crashing into the street and cracking like an egg.
I looked up as a cow hovered down on cape and glared at a common nuisance of Dog Star Patrol and head of the evil 'Felonious Felines' organization.
Well I was looking at Mechanikat’s flailing legs and backside as his upper half was buried in the snow. He quickly pulled himself free and he looked slightly battered by the crash landing of the large robot’s head.
“Well now…” I said while pulling out a pink strip of clothe and tying it around my forehead. “Smolder has dibs let her have a first go at him.”
“You think you’ve won, but I’ve been working on my cybernetic enchantments Dog Star Patrol!” Mechanikat rose into the air laughing like a fruitcake. “I am now a master of magnetism, welcome to die!”
“This is the guy that gives you so much trouble?” I asked dully. Aside from the mechanical body, which I could total in seconds with a bark breaker, he didn't seem to have much going for him. “I can’t take his voice seriously, it is not nearly menacing enough and he sounds like a complete fruitcake on the lower end of the villain spectrum with that upper crust accent.”
“You will pay for those remarks, no matter how true they might be!” Mechanikat’s angry countenance didn’t bother me as he crossed his mechanical arms and glared at me from his position in the air.
“To be honest it’s mostly Snooky that’s always the major problem, Mechanikat himself alone is not a really big threat even if he is the main schemer of the group... or so they say anyway.” Hot Dog looked around at everyone. “Cordon off the area and let Smolder have a crack at him. This shouldn’t take long.”
“If you always had magnetism throughout all of this, then why didn’t you stop all of my bat-a-rangs previously, or use it to help pull the one out of the console before the ejection fired off?” The bat themed cow hero asked of Mechanikat more out of curiosity than actually pointing out how dumb that sounds that he could have entirely avoided this situation before hoof.
“W-well, because… argh! I just wanted to dramatically show off how much better I am than all of you. That and I probably didn’t even need my newly installed magnetism module to conquer this little dirt ball dimensional pocket world full of happy little idiots anyway!” We all just gave Mechanikat a flat stare for saying that last part. "Apparently I do and its clear I need to stop holding back.."
“Sure, whatever be helping you sleep at night, we be understanding completely.” Shanty waved both her front hooves in an over the top placating manner.
Dodo trilled as he studied the magnetism mechanisms keenly as Mechanikat hovered there as his purple cape flowed in a nonexistent wind.
“Oh, you’ll all see, when you have to deal with the new and improved Super Mechanikat!” The so called self-titled Super Mechanikat stated proudly striking a pose with his chest puffed out, metal fists on his hips and closing his eyes with his head raised high as he floated there laughing lightly to himself.
“Go ahead Smolder, have fun.” After that the battle started with Mechanikat almost taking a fireball to the face and apparently he had powerful enough magnetism to pull up a large piece of metal that got melted into slag.
He quickly took the melted metal and turned it into projectile aimed at Smolder’s torso… to no effect aside from some giggling as to how ticklish the melted molten metal felt when it went sliding down Smolder's scales.
A fight, if we could even call it that, had only just begun.
