Thoughtless Typing & Mindless Metaphors
“I’ll go first,” he stated, fanning out his hand of five cards expertly, the cards creating a satisfying whoosh sound. Narrowing his eyes, the man hovered his hand over the cards, his fingers swaying back and forth. After a few seconds, his hand stopped over a card and he smirked, lowering his head so that his baseball cap cast a shadow over his eyes.
“Hey! I’m waiting! I don’t got all day!” A stallion called out from across the grey concrete and asphalt field, lampposts and trash cans surrounding the field like artificial flowers drinking up the misery of the surrounding jungle canopy. The man was leaning back, arms crossed, and tapping his left foot, a scowl beginning to form on his brow.
“Alright, alright, I’m getting there,” he said, putting his hands up, careful to only show the backs of his cards. Putting his hands down, he smiled and grabbed one card in his hand.
“First, I’ll play the field spell card, Mausoleum of White. Next, I’ll activate its effect, which allows me to normal summon an extra level 1 light tuner monster from my hand. I normal summon The White Stone of Ancients and The White Stone of Legends from my hand in attack position.” As he swiped his hand across his duel disk, two stones rose out from the ground, almost appearing to be unrealistic. One was glowing a bright white light from within while the other was glowing a bright yellow in a similar way.
“Ha, you really think those two little stones can beat me?!” The stallion called out from across the field, pointing a hoof at himself and almost sounding a little insulted.
“You didn’t let me finish,” the man said in response, his smile never faltering. “Next, I’ll activate my field spell’s other effect to target one monster I control and send a normal monster from my deck to my graveyard to let the targeted monster gain attack equal to the graveyard monster’s level times 800. But they won’t be staying for long, for I link the two together to link summon Twin Triangle Dragon from my extra deck.” The other man lightly gasped as a small, dark grey armored dragon slightly taller than himself emerged from a realm of 1s and 0s. Its eyes glowed a dark red, similar to the glowing spots that littered its upper body. Its dark yellow horns jutted out from its head as large purple triangles surrounded the dragon’s arm and claws of a similar color.
The stallion took a step back, real winds howling just behind and below him.
“And because The White Stone of Legends was sent to the graveyard, I can add one Blue-Eyes White Dragon to my hand.” The man said, his smile morphing into something more smug.
“Next, I’ll activate trade-in to discard the Blue-Eyes White Dragon in my hand to draw two cards. To follow that up, using Twin Triangle Dragon’s effect, I can pay 1000 life points to special summon 2 level 5 or higher monsters from my graveyard but they can’t attack this turn and their effects are negated. Come on back my faithful Blue-Eyes White Dragons!” The man shouted the last phrase, earning a more fearful look and another step back from the man across the field from him.
LP 8000 ---> 7000
“If you liked that move, then you’re gonna love this! I tribute both Blue-Eyes White Dragons to fusion summon a monster from my extra deck!” The man was near cackling at this point as one could feel the power radiating off of him, similar to a battery after it has been left on its charger.
The stallion, with a look more terrified than ever, shouted over to the man across the field from him. “But I thought you needed Polymerization to fusion summon!” His raspy voice was becoming weaker and weaker as the situation in front of him escalated.
The man disagreed. “Not this monster!” he shouted as thunder clouds rolled in above them unnaturally quickly, lightning leaking down from black clouds like rain. He began to chant.
“O’ great dragon, unfurl thy wings, and unleash thy wrath! Let thine holy white light blind them and smite them unto darkness! Contact fusion! Come forth, the Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon!” As he finished, a small tornado emerged from the clouds above and struck down upon the battlefield, a phantom wind making itself known to both combatants. As the tornado dissipated, a two-headed Blue-Eyes White Dragon was revealed, with sharper claws, a longer tail, and blue veins running along the entire dragon, pulsing with energy.
The dragon let out a hearty and ear-piercing roar causing one final step back and drowning out the stallion’s blood-curdling screams of terror, surprise and finally anguish as he is pulled into the dark depths, away from civilization, away from the inherent evil of man and pony kind and away from the divine light that seemed to shine down upon in spite and smite it in acceptance of what it is.
The man looked over the edge, smirking to himself. He hummed to himself in satisfaction before he walked away. As the previously summoned dragon slowly vanished into thin air, the harsh breeze it caused made the man stop and think to himself.
How had the world come to this? He thought back to what he'd saw and heard on the final day, the day before it all came crashing down. People and ponies alike shouting conflicting beliefs, conflicting ideals while cards and evil dudes and black magic all came raining down like hellfire. The man sighed. They were too confident in themselves. Too confident in their inherent ability to understand everything that they understood nothing. Too ingrained in their own summoning method and too fixated on how bad the others were that they neglected the bigger picture.
The destruction around them.
The chaos it caused.
And the simple truth that nothing is simple and that soon there wouldn't be any to use any summoning method if they didn't act.
"They didn't get it," he mumbled to himself.
"The just didn't get it."
Author's Note
Before any of you say anything, yes I know Twin Triangle's effect only happens once upon its initial link summon, I wrote this when I was still under the impression that its effect worked whenever as I was too blind to see the "When this card is Link summoned:" clause at the top.
