“Number one, he’s older than me. Number two, I doubt he’d take kindly to being… Actually, he might take to it quite well. But what if he doesn’t-” Pharynx held up a hoof to cut off Thorax’s rambling worries.

Thorax turned and entered his room, to pull out a history book written by one of the hive’s scribes. He sighed as he reviewed the chapter he’d deliberately avoided time and time again.

“Maybe it was one of those subconscious things. Something we want deep down, but don’t tell anybody.” Spike shrugged, and found himself caught in a yawn. He snuggled closer to his love, hiding himself in Thorax’s chest. "You were very brave today, my little eunuch." Spike smiled, and drifted off into a calm, dreamless sleep.
Upon Spike falling asleep, Thorax laid there with him for an hour or so longer, before getting up to go discuss with his brother, and to get Spike his proper garb. They were, in the eyes of the hive, engaged after all.
The walk to Pharynx’s room was short, and by the time he was there, his heart was soaring as the real meaning of what just happened dawned on him. He knocked on Pharynx’s door, completely forgetting that it was the ungodly hours of night. Which is why he was surprised when his brother swung the door open angrily, bags under his eyes.
“What. Do. You. Want.” Thorax was unphased, his smile much too bright for that time of day, which confused Pharynx until he spoke next.
“Spike and I are engaged!” Pharynx gaped, before rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
“I’ll gather a garment worker and a carver immediately.”
When Spike woke up, he was... well, he wouldn't say fully dressed.
He was wearing a silky cloth that the changelings used frequently, as a sort of wedding veil, and he wore a pair of semi-transparent panties that showed his empty sack and sheath to the world, and he felt the event of the night before with Thorax crash over him, and he looked over to the bedside table to see exactly what he was expecting, his dick and nuts, gone cold overnight. “Oddly enough, not much. You guys are pretty mysterious about a lot of things.” Thorax nodded.

Back then, they did it with blunt rocks and no way of numbing the pain.” Spike winced, and was suddenly even more glad that his boyfriend was a healer. “We kept doing it, even when it became clear that we’d unevolved the gene that caused a testicular explosion. It became a symbol of devotion, to give up a part of yourself. Eventually, after another evolution that let us do minor regeneration with the cocoons, it became a popular thing to do it before your wedding was made official. For five days, you remain a gelding, both because enduring the hormonal changes that come with it shows devotion, and because when you regrow your nuts, your fertility grows.”
“How does that work?”
“It's basically imbuing energy straight into them, giving them a boost. It was outlawed during Chrysalis's reign, since we were pretty much at war then, and even if you got your nuts back, your aggression level dropped pretty much permanently.” Spike scowled, but Thorax continued on.
“Anyway, we discovered a while back that after the metamorphosis, it works on any creature you share love with, after a drone cocooned his pet in the hopes that it would heal him, and what do you know, their bird came out good as new, and just as friendly.” That made something click in Spike’s mind.
“Wait, you said that having your mate geld you symbolizes marriage. Did you propose to me by cutting my junk off?” Thorax tapped his hooves together.
“Are you saying ye-” He was cut off as Spike dragged his face down to kiss him deeply, releasing him only when they needed to come up for air.
“Yes I am.” Thorax lit up with a smile, and nuzzled Spike lovingly.
“Well then, I hope you can stay like this for five days.” Spike scoffed, and waved his hand.
“No sweat. I might even go for longer. I could get used to having nothing down there.” Thorax shrugged.
“Go as long as you like, but at some point you’re gonna have to mate me for real.” Spike’s confusion must have shown on his face, because Thorax stood up and lifted his tail to reveal his taint, and a dark blue slit, which was unmistakably a vagina. Spike’s jaw dropped. Thorax laughed at him. “Any male changeling royalty is hermaphroditic Spike. Pharynx is too. But you don’t need to worry about him, after all…”
“You are engaged to me.”
If Spike still had a dick, he’d be full mast.

This idea has been in my head for I don't know how many days, so I wrote it out. I've got two more related ideas, so those might happen at some point. I know just as well as anybody that no castration story is gonna get an overwhelmingly good response, but if you have negative comments just about the subject, keep them to yourself. Of course, I love constructive criticism, so that's just fine.
Although we don't see the reversal of Spike's castration, it will happen in another story, more than likely. As well as the Mane 6's response to Spike's emasculation.
