The Prince of Sorrowby Ken_is_WritingChaptersThe Call of a problemThe Tears of a PrinceThe Princesses CouncilThe Call of a problemA plume of smoke floats in through Twilights window, forming a letter which lands on her book covered and coffee stained tabletop. Twilights door creaks open as Spike walks in, stepping over open books and coffee cups. Spike walks up to Twilights desk, attempting to clear away the mess from Twilights all day study session. “Always making messes, and falling asleep on top of it too, preventing me from cleaning…” Spike grumbles, and picks up the freshly formed scroll and opens it, preparing to inform Twilight about her new message. “Twi, Twilight. Get up, Celestia sent you a new letter!” Spike shakes Twilight gently, and Twilights ears twitch as soon as the mention of Celestia comes out of Spikes mouth, and she jumps up. “Celestia sent a letter?!” Twilight practically screams, startling Spike, and causing him to drop books quills, and parchment scrolls. “Geez Twilight, calm down.” Spike says as he picks up the things he dropped, and Twilight scans the scroll. “So whats it about? That thing you mumble about in your sleep these days?” Spike questions, barely balancing the stack of items he carries out of the room. “She’s asked me to take a break from the school to study abnormalities in the barrier around Canterlot. Apparently there has been a fission in the barrier protecting Canterlot.” Twilight says, still reading the scroll hungrily, looking for any new information on the case she has been set on. “So… Whats that mean…?” Spike asks, setting away the items and sprinting back up the stairs. “Well. It means that something is causing a disturbance, something powerful I might add, its messing with a spell both Celestia and Luna cast. Ah here!” Twilight continues, and begins to mumble to herself, using her magic to bring no less that several reference books. All of which are dust covered and old. “Hey Twilight… aren’t those our books on dark magic, and Tartarus?” Spike’s voice quivers slightly, remembering all the monsters and villains he’s seen and heard about in the past. “Dark magic? In Canterlot? Doesn’t that mean something crazy evil, or something would be there?” He bites his nails as he thinks about it, Twilight trots over to Spike. “Well Spike, we don’t know… Equestria, unfortunately, has made a lot of enemies, our resources are thin, and we need to deal with any possible threats as soon as possible... something like dark magic in Canterlot... is a terrifying thought.” Twilight visibly shivered, the memory of monsters like Sombra and Tirek caused her heart to drop. “Spike!” Twilight shouts, as she stands to attention, her hooves hitting the crystal floor and causing an echo. “Y-yes?!” Spike jumps at the sudden shout. “I need you to tell the girls I’ve gone to Canterlot, I’ve been asked to go immediately.” Twilight then rushes down the stairs, not even finished with her sentence, and begins packing a small bag sitting by the main entrance to the castle. “W-wait, you’re leaving right now. It’s the middle of the night!” Spike exclaims, but to no avail, Twilight bursts out the doors and flies away at top speed. “Where am I even supposed to find them….? They’ve all left to do their own things… course I have to figure it out, leaving in the middle of the night, not even a thank you...” Spike grumbles as he closes the crystal doors. Author's Note First try at this story, the next chapter should be much longer, if you have any suggestions on how to make this better I'd love to hear. The Tears of a PrinceThe wind in Canterlot was a sour, cold wind, the smell of flowers long drowned out by the smell of gunpowder and offensive magic. The streets littered with torn clothes, homeless and crumbled buildings. A young alicorn prince shivers under the harsh wind, his only cover a torn and battered grey cloak. The prince plants himself in an alleyway to hide from the wind, the screams of fighting ponies’ mixes with the shrill howling of the wind. “This fucking place is the worst…” the prince whispers to himself, trying not to attract the attention of the other ponies around him. The prince looks around, eyeing for an escape from the once abandoned alleyway, war veterans begin to check each alleyway, looking to take items for survival form those who cannot defend themselves. The prince stands, and begins to walk away, realizing he’s become the target of a group of veterans. Walking in the opposing direction, the prince attempts to flee before anything becomes of the situation, his hooves clopping against the cobble walkways, he attempts to speed up. “Oi!” Somepony shouts out, pushing the prince back. “Gah! What the he- “Before the prince can finish his sentence, he’s hit with a metal pole in his hind leg, a crack sounds from the connection. “Fuck!!” The prince screams, collapsing from the pain, hitting the ground. “Whats wrong filly? Can’t take a damn hit?” A scared and bruised unicorn snickers, “Look at this pathetic shit, thinks he can just walk away without paying up.” The unicorn raises his pipe, and his gang laughs. The prince’s horn flashes light blue, and fades into a dark purple, his eyes glowing green as emeralds. “AAAGHHHH!!” The unicorn leader screams in agony, his hooves jumping to his face as he collapses to the cobbled ground. “Get the fucker!” A goon screams, and they all grab their makeshift weapons, and surround the prince, whose eyes have faded from green to pale blue. “Equestrians love their violence… don’t they?” The prince spits, and lights his horn again, drawing a broadsword from under his torn and tattered cloak. The prince charges first, plunging his sword into the throat of an earth pony, blood spraying onto the princes face, pulling his blade from the pony’s throat, he turns to face the others, which rewards him with an arrow to his knee, causing the prince to fall and drop his guard entirely. The goons race forward to finish the prince off, in one swift twist of the head, the prince’s sword slashes through the goons, spraying blood across the walls. “W-wait!! Please!! Don’t kill me!!” a goon screams, horror filling his eyes and voice. The prince heals himself, and stands, sheathing his blade, and walks over to the goon. “No NO NO!!” The goon screams trying his hardest to back away, scraping and tripping over the cobbles, his hind leg sliced open and pouring blood. The prince grabs the colt with his magic and drags the colt to him. “Wait!! What do you want? I can get it! Please!” The colt screams, thrashing around, trying to escape. The prince’s eyes glow pale blue once again, and he outstretches his right hoof, his magic forming ethereal claws on the end of his hoof. “I want my home… My kingdom… My vengeance… And you, poor, pathetic, worthless pony, will help me…” The prince smiles as he says this, savoring the fear in the colt’s eyes, the prince had been on the other side of this equation, but now intends to make the most of it. “What… what the hell does that mean?!” The colt screams, trying to gather attention of somepony for help. “You don’t need to be told; you’ll experience it!” The prince grasps the colt with his ethereal claws, burning marks into the colt’s head, as he screams in agony, the colt’s eyes become the same shade of pale blue as the prince’s eyes. The colt stands, ignoring the gash on its hind leg, and stands at attention to the prince. “My, you’re quite calm, now aren’t you?” The prince smiles as he says this, knowing the colt is to his full disposal. The Prince opens a portal, and points to it with his hoof. “Go in, I’ll call upon you when I require your life.” The colt walks through the dark portal, and it closes behind him. The prince collapses to the ground, his head splitting in pain, and his mind flooding with memories of the war that brought him here. His eyes fill with tears, and he screams into the sky, his whole body bursting with dark magic, firing a beacon of purple and black magic into the sky, rupturing the clouds and breaking the silence across Canterlot with a deafening cry. Author's Note Chapters will alternate between the veiws of the prince and the princesses, in case you were wondering, which you probably were not. The Princesses Council“Oh, Twilight, there you are.” Celestia turns away from the balcony and walks into the room, carefully watching Twilight close the door. “I came as quickly as I could! What's going on? The scroll said you needed me urgently?” Twilight rushes forward scrolls and quills dropping as she trots, her magic igniting to clean up after her. “We don't know yet…” Luna says, landing on the balcony with no grace, almost collapsing entirely, Celestia running over, catching her sister before she can fall completely. “Something has been draining our magic, as well as causing distraught in Canterlot.” Celestia says, helping her sister back to a standing position “Yes, It is as my sister says, a darkness is spreading over Canterlot, I’ve seen it in ponies dreams too…” Luna states, her voice shivers slightly and she steps into the room more. “A darkness, what does that even mean? Are we at risk for another war?!” Twilight says impatiently, stamping her hoof slightly, surprising the other princesses with her outburst. The Princesses stand in silence, Celestia turning to the balcony, and Luna avoiding the gaze of Twilight, beginning to pace back and forth. “So… Do we even know what is causing this? Or at least an idea?” Twilight says, regaining her composure. “Something as powerful as King Sombra, or Tirek. They’re the only ones we know of capable of spreading this dark plague.” Celestia says, turning back to face Twilight, her hooves trotting lightly on the crystalline floor. “But Sombra is dead, and Tirek is in Tartarus, isn't he?” Twilight's voice twinges with concern, knowing the dark power possessed by both beings. Twilight lifts and places her bag down, and sits next to it, hovering a quill and scroll to take notes on any possible information the princesses have. “Tirek is in Tartarus, I was sent to check by my sister not to long ago." Luna says with a small amount of pride, taking her seat in the small study. Luna's mane moving as calm as the river within Cantelots walls, but her eyes darting from the floor to the window, as if expecting someone. "Can either of you at least tell me whats been happening?!" Twilight says, her voice trembling with anger and fear, the unknown and silence breaking Twilight's calm. Twilight walks up to Celestia's side, and looks at her mentor, attempting to gather any evidence from the look on Celestias face. To Twilights suprise, Celestia has tears dripping down her face, and with a turn, see's Luna sobbing in the chair. "W-Whats happening with you tw-" Twilights stopped at the end of her sentence, her eyes flooding with tears, and her throat becoming choked up. She stumbles back a bit, her tears finally breaking and dripping down her face, staining her fur and dropping to the floor. From the window, screams and wails are heard all throughout Canterlot, from Foals to Mares and Stallions, cries of sorrow and fear echo into the clear night sky. Among the cries one is heard clearly and powerfully, a Stallion who feels the most sorrow and hatred, his magic tearing apart the hearts of ponies across Canterlot.
