It has been 5 years since Octavia started her career as an Idol. She had become one of the most recognized musicians of all time. Yet, she felt like she was missing something. Of course, she knew exactly what she was missing, but she wasn't ready to tackle the problem quite yet. She was sitting in a room backstage, tuning her instrument of choice for this concert, the violin. There was a knock on the door and a stagehoof poked his head inside.
"Ms Melody, your on in five." He told her. Octavia sighed and got her violin ready. She walked out of the room and headed to the stage where she gave yet another stellar performance.
She hoped somewhere out there She was watching. Octavia always performed for her, even after she tried to put her out of her mind five years ago. Once her concert ended, Octavia rushed out of the concert hall, trying to hold back tears. She didn't go to any meet and greets for the fans, she just, needed to go home. She got into her car and drove away before she could be swamped by the press.
Vinyl watched the entire concert from beginning to end on the billboards. The rooftop shamble she called home had a great view of one of the Manehattan towers that had the megascreens. She was leaning on the railing, smoking a cigarette a she watched Octavia perform.
"Amazing as always, Tavi." Vinyl sighed as the concert ended. Vinyl sighed and stepped away from the railing. A stallion had walked up the stairs and over to Vinyl.
"You need to pay your debt, Flower Hall!!" He shouted. Vinyl looked at him with a blank look that clearly said she was dead inside.
"Do I look like some bitch named Flower Hall!? Do you see flowers on my flanks you idiot!?! Huh!?! Do you!?" Vinyl said, grabbing him by the collar.
"Get your hooves off me and pay up!!" He hissed at her.
"I have enough bullshit going on in my life without some two bit thug trying to force me to pay him bits that I don't owe him!" Vinyl shouted, the only emotion she was portraying right now was sheer anger. The stallion realized that his plan to get this washed up mare into false debt was backfiring.
"So, do me a favor, and Buck Off!!" Vinyl said, headbutting the stallion and tossing him down the stairs. The mare let out a loud yell of frustration. She put her cigarette out on her foreleg, adding to the many burn marks and scars, and stomped inside her shamble.
She picked up a half smoked joint and lit it up again."I need to buzz up to forget about it again." Vinyl said, taking a long hard hit of the joint. Her eyes were red from tears and her high she was currently on. "Why....why did I have to buck up so hard...." She cried as she desperately smoked the joint.
Honestly, the weed did nothing for her anymore, it was just a comfort mechanism for her now. Vinyl eventually just threw the joint of her only window with a scream of anger. She got up and pulled on a blue hoodie, pulling up the hood to hide her face. She walked down the stairs and headed into town. Vinyl melded in perfectly with the everyday townsponies of Manehattan, not standing out at all. She walked through to the poor part of the town and headed to a Conveyor Belt Sushi place. The inside was as it usually was, one or two ponies here, a sushi fanatic over there. Vinyl just sighed and trotted over and picked a random seat, getting as much food as she could. She ate her food with no emotion, just needed to quell her hunger. Once she was finished she placed a few bits on the table and left, bumping into somepony as she exited the restaurant.
He recoiled back a bit, looking at her angrily. Vinyl walked away, not paying him any mind. "Hey!" he shouted, getting in front of her.
Vinyl pushed past him and continued to walk forward. He stayed in her path, glaring at her. Vinyl pushed past him again, ignoring him. He grabbed her shoulder. Vinyl let out an exasperated sigh and turned to look at him. "What?"
"You need to fucking apologize!" He sneered.
"Man up, dude. Quit making an Ass of yourself and get over being bumped into." Vinyl said shrugging his hoof off of her before walking away.
This time he grabbed her directly, holding onto her with one hoof and rearing the other back to punch her in the face. Vinyl ducked under the stallion's punch and grabbed it with bother her front hooves before flipping him over her and throwing him over the railings next to them and into the river. He was pushed downstream thanks to the current.
"See ya asshole!" Vinyl called after him, giving him a cheeky wave.
"I'll remember this you fucking bitch!" He shouted before he was out of sight.
A few ponies stared at her in awe. Vinyl rolled her eyes and pulled her hoodie strings, covering her face even more. She trotted away without another thought on this matter. Eventually, she made her way to a specific alley that had a red door at the end. She knocked on it four times. "The Moonlight will Guide us along the path." She spoke.
The door creaked open and Vinyl trotted inside, getting bits ready.
"Don't bother Vinyl. I told you that I won't sell to you after last time." The mare in charge says.
Vinyl looked at her with dead eyes. "Just give me cigarettes." She said.
"Which kind you mean? Cause after that overdose I ain't selling you any dirty ones." The mare said, crossing her forelegs.
"I don't give a shit. I just need to smoke something." Vinyl said, tapping her hoof impatiently.
"Tem, get her some clean ones." She tells one of the lackies.
A black mare flew off to get some. Vinyl looked to her left and gasped. There was a poster of Octavia, right there!
"Yeah... she's been big in the concert scene..." a random mare said, noticing her looking at the poster.
Vinyl teared up, quickly covering her eyes with her sunglasses. The mare didn't notice, having gone off and doing her own thing. Vinyl looked back to the mare in charge. "H-How much for the Poster of Tav....Octavia..." Vinyl asked, trying to keep any emotion out of her voice.
"Uh, you can just have it. It's not a big deal." The mare behind the desk shrugged.
Vinyl cleared her throat and levitated the poster over to her. "Y-Yes. Well...I'll be going now." Vinyl said, beginning to trot away.
"Don't you want your smokes?" The mare called after her.
Vinyl left without saying another word. Vinyl ran all the way back home without stopping. She barged through the door and hastily began cleaning up. She placed the poster in the neatest spot in her shamble. "H-Hi...Hi Octavia..." she said, waving to the poster.
The poster did what posters do: Just hang on the wall.
"I know it's been awhile....I'm sorry..." vinyl chuckled humorlessly.
It felt like the poster was staring at her.
"I'm doing....okay...I know it's nothing compared to your success.....without me...hehe...heh......hehh...." Vinyl just began crying underneath the poster of Octavia.
"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry Octavia!" Vinyl cried, leaning against the poster. "I bucked up, I bucked up so badly!" She cried as she fell back to the floor. She smacked her face into the ground as her sobbing grew worse.
She ripped open her fridge and began chugging more alcohol, she needed something to take away this pain.

Depresso Espresso! That's me, that's you! That's Vinyl and Octy, that's for shoe! I mean, Sure!
This is probably my most poorly written story yet, but I still plan on writing it. So for anyone who actually enjoys this or actually reads these dumb Author Notes, thank you for reading!
Vinyl walked through the city of manehattan, scratching her leg. She was trying to open some of her scars, not feeling like making new ones. Eventually though, she just stopped. Ponies were staring at her and whispering things about her. Almost certainly nothing good. If the was one thing she hated more than herself, it was attention that she didn't want. she just flipped on her hoodie and trotted away.
Eventually, she found herself directly in front of a wall, completely decked out in Octavia Melody posters. All of them highlighted her next show date, which was next week. Vinyl looked away and shook her head. "No....I can't....stop thinking about it, Vinyl." She told herself, trying her best to ignore the posters.
But now, it was all she could see. The date of the concert and the face of her former closest friend. It was the only thing on her mind.
"....If I go....maybe....maybe...." She said, tears streaming her down her cheeks, matting the fur on her face.
She eventually just ran off again. She couldn't make up her mind. Words could not describe how desperately she wanted to see Octavia again, but she was sure she hated her with every fiber of her being. Vinyl wouldn't blame her if she did. Vinyl had been galloping for awhile and eventually found herself pacing around in her shamble. She had a decent amount of bits saved up, she could probably score a ticket if she tried, but the question was, would she try. SHOULD she try.
Vinyl bit her lip to the point that she thought she was going to draw blood. Thankfully, that didn't happen. She looked at the poster of Octavia. Her face seemed so inviting. So loving. So...forgiving. The date was as present as ever. Vinyl smiled softly at Octavia's face before sighing. She gathered up all her bits and ran to the concert hall. Re entering her shamble three minutes later, remembering that the concert was a week away from now.
Her face was red and the poster of Octavia seemed to be amused. Vinyl chuckled a bit herself. She could hear her voice. She could hear her giggling and telling her how forgetful she was. Vinyl felt tears sting her eyes once more.
"....I have to go. I have to. I need to tell her I'm sorry." Vinyl decided.
She sat on her bed and eventually went to sleep, wanting to pass the next few days as quickly as possible, her patience very scarce right now.
Vinyl was very surprised when she was given a ticket for free, and even more shocked when she was given a backstage pass.
She looked up at the pony who had given her these two items. He was grinning at her.
"I'm sorry, but there has to be some kind of mistake." Vinyl said.
The stallion just chuckled. "Trust me, I know exactly what I'm doing."
Vinyl was still unsure, but she wouldn't look a gift human in the mouth. not after.... She took the items and ran inside. The building was packed with ponies, all eager to see Octavia's show. Vinyl sat down in the front row, looking out of place with the rest of the ponies in front row.
A few ponies sent her weird looks, but otherwise didn't react. The moment Octavia came on stage, she immediately saw Vinyl. Vinyl was breath taken with how beautiful Octavia had become over the years. Octavia was equally as breath taken when she saw Vinyl, but for different reasons. She looked terrible, scars covering her entire front right leg. She was clearly malnourished and was completely broken. Octavia took a deep breath before starting to play. Vinyl sang along with every song she played, knowing each and every one by heart. She had to.
After enough time had passed, the concert ended, and the audience applauded. Vinyl applauded with more heart than anybody else present. Octavia took a bow, but made eye contact with Vinyl as she did. Vinyl had disappeared by then, but Octavia knew she had a backstage pass. Octavia finished packing up before heading backstage. Vinyl was sitting in a corner, trying not to lose it.
"H-Hi....Tav...Oc...Otcy...Octavia..." Vinyl said nervously.
Octavia stared at her in disbelief as she mechanically put away her cello. She was really here. And she needed help. Bad.
"...Vinyl." Octavia said simply as she began walking over to her.
Vinyl's breathing hastened as Octavia got closer to her. She had no idea what to say! A simple I'm sorry wouldn't be good enough for her! She half expected Octavia to start beating her, but was calmed a little when the mare sat before her.
"You look....frazzled." Octavia said gently.
Vinyl looked herself over before looking back at Octavia. "Yeah....I look like shit, don't I?" She said bluntly.
She took a deep breath before sighing. She looked Octavia deep in her eyes. "Octavia....I.....I'm sorry. I was horrible. I was pretty much the worst marefriend ever. I know you probably despise me, and want to kick me out, but please let me finish."
When Vinyl was met with silence, she took that as a sign to continue.
"I loved you, Octavia. I still do you. You're the only thing to have ever given my life meaning. I'm so sorry that I couldn't make it to any of your concerts, I was stupid to ever put radio shows before you." Vinyl said.
She was once again met with disbelieving silence. Octavia simply couldn't believe this was happening!
Vinyl, however, took this silence as a bad sign.
"I'm sorry. I know you'll never forgive me. I should just go." Vinyl said before trotting away.
Octavia stared at her as she left, screaming to herself in her mind to chase after her. She finally shook herself out of her stupor minutes after Vinyl had departed the building.
She ran after the mare, telling the staff to take care of everything as she ran.
Vinyl was a sobbing mess as she trotted through the streets of Manehattan. She should have known how poorly that would have gone. She didn't pay attention to where she was going. She was just moving.
Five minutes into her walking, she was tackled from the side and thrown into an alley.
She groaned in pain as she looked up. She saw the Stallion from a the other day along with five others.
"Told you I would remember, bitch." The stallion said before he punched Vinyl in the face.
Vinyl yelped in pain as she recoiled from the blow, falling onto the ground.
"Whoo! Alright boys, time to teach the cunt a lesson!" The leader said before All five stallions began to wail on her.
Punch after punch, blow after blow. It seemed like it was never going to end. And that was when it stopped.
Vinyl her a loud bang that caused all the stallions to flinch and stop there beating. They turned around and backed away from Vinyl.
Vinyl looked up, her forehooves still covering her head. She saw Octavia standing at the entrance of the alley, holding a gun she had just discharged into the sky.
"Everypony buck off!" She shouted as she pointed the pistol at them all.
The leader growled at her. "Look Lady, I-" He was cut off when a bullet went whizzing past him, nicking his ear. He let out a very unmanly yelp before running off, his cronies following him.
Vinyl was covered in hoof marks, the beating she had received, while brief, was rather extreme. Octavia picked Vinyl up and carried her off.
"Tavi, I-" Vinyl started, but was cut off.
"After we get you checked into a hospital." Octavia said firmly.
Vinyl was too tired, weak, and beaten to protest after that, she just slumped over in Octavia's grip.
"....I'm Sorry, Octavia."
