“Twilight I don’t we can be together anymore.”
Rainbow said with sadness filling her voice. Two mouths ago the pony she loved Twilight Sparkle had become an alicorn. At first she had been overjoyed that her marefriend now had wings, And she could now fly with her. Rainbow had taught Twilight as much as she could about flying. From how to take off to doing awesome tricks with ease. However after that she came to realize that Twilight was immortal, not like she was unkillable. No she would just live forever, unlike her. She would grow old and die, and leave Twilight behind, alone. That’s why she had to break up with the pony she loved.
Twilight almost instantly broke into tears in the middle of the library. Dropping the book she was reading. “What! Why? What did I do wrong? Please tell me so I can make it up to you.I-I” Twilight had lost all of her composure. She sat down on the floor of the library looking at Rainbow tears in her eyes.
What had she done wrong? Why did Rainbow Dash want to break up with her. Had she broken some promise she didn’t remember? “Why are you breaking up with me?”
“Twilight you didn’t do anything wrong its just that you’re -“ Rainbow was interrupted by the crying alicorn.
“I’m what Rainbow? Not good enough for you! Not-“ Twilight was herself interrupted by Rainbow.
“You’re Immortal Twi, you’re going to live forever and I’m not.”
It took Twilight a second to process what Dash had said. She knew she was biologically immortal, but why would that? Oh she didn’t know. How could she! She hadn’t told Rainbow yet. Twilight took a second to calm down, it was just a misunderstanding, one that had been her fault admittedly. She just was so busy that it had slipped her mind, but of course Dashie had worried. She wiped away the tears and got up. Then walked to her marefriend who was looking at the ground.
“Rainbow there’s a way you could become immortal like me.”
Rainbow’s head snapped up to look at Twilight so fast the alicorn was worried she might have gotten whiplash. “There is? How? Are you going to turn me into an alicorn?” Rainbow said, hope filling her voice. Maybe she didn’t have to break up with Twi after all.
“No I can’t make you an alicorn. But I can do something else. Remember how Cadence and my brother are married?” Rainbow nodded dumbly of course she did.
“Well Cadence made a spell that worked off her alicorn magic and love magic. She gave Shining some of her alicorn magic making him biologically immortal. Using her love magic as a medium to give it to him to, once again make him biologically immortal like her.” Twilight explained a smile forming on her face.
“So you're saying you can do the same thing with me.” Hope filled Rainbow’s voice.
“Not quite, as I don’t have access to Cadence's love magic, only she has that. And she could only give enough alicorn magic to make Shinning immortal while she herself was still immortal. I also only have enough to make one pony immortal like me, that being you Dashie.” Twilight as if it was obvious, which to her it was.
“What I’d have to do is something different, I’d need to rip my own magic from my body and give it to you.” Twilight finished.
“That doesn’t sound too bad. So what’s the catch?” To Rainbow it sounded way too easy. Just give her a bit of alicorn magic and she was immortal. She didn’t buy it.
“The catch is Rainbow that I’m going to rip off a part of my alicorn magic as I said and it's going to hurt a lot.” Twilight said wincing just at the thought of what she was going to have to do to make Rainbow immortal. She would do it easily, being in agonizing pain for a short time was a small price to pay for being able to spend her eternal life with Dash.
“How much is a lot Twi?” Rainbow asked.
“Enough to know that I want to soundproof the room so I don’t give Spike nightmares with my screaming.” Twilight stated simply.
“Whoa Twi, are you sure it’s safe?” Rainbow gave her a look shocked with worry. They’d all gotten hurt at some point whether it was getting hit by a cart going down the street faster than it should ( thanks Pinkie) or getting punched across the face by a Changeling. Hell she had even broken her own wing. But enough that she worried about giving Spike nightmares. It sent a shiver down her back.
“Yes it’s safe, it’s just going to hurt a lot as I said.”
“If you're sure Twi.” Rainbow said with trepidation in her voice.
Twilight rested a foreleg on Rainbows shoulder. “Rainbow I’d understand if you don’t want to go through with this.”
“Twilight it's not that I don’t want to be immortal, I want to be there for you for however long you live for. I just don’t like seeing you in pain.” Rainbow replied bluntly, she wouldn’t hide the truth from Twilight. But she had another question, one less relevant but she wanted to ask it anyway, so she did.
“I have a question though why haven’t Celestia or Luna made somepony else immortal?”
“That's because they can't.” Twilight answered after taking a moment to think about it.
“Then why can you and Cadence do it?” It didn’t make sense to her, Celestia and Luna were both alicorns much older ones at that. So why couldn’t they do it too?
Twilight took a second to think of how to explain it. She unconsciously sat down and bit her lip in thought. It was a look Rainbow thought was unequivocally adorable. And w hen the mare's eyes lit up as she figured out the best way to explain it. Rainbow herself couldn’t help but be just a little more happy as if Twi’s excitement was contagious.
“Ok so Cadence can because she’s the princess of love and it comes with the job from what she says. And the reason I can is because I have dramatically more magic than Celestia and Luna combined. The best way to describe it would be to say they have very focused magic, sun and moon respectively. On the other hoof I have raw unfocused magic, so much of it in fact that if I really wanted to I could bat both of them to the side, like that.” Twilight flicked a wing to emphasize the word “that”. “I am the element of magic after all.”
“Wait really?” The pegasus said shocked by this information. She knew Twilight was strong but strong enough to beat Celestia and Luna. One more thing to add to the list of why Twi was just as awesome as her.
Another question popped into Dash’s head.
“So will I be able to use unicorn magic after you give me your alicorn magic?”
Twilight had to stifle a laugh at the thought of Rainbow having a horn.
“No Dashie I don’t think so nor will you have earth pony magic. But you will heal faster from injuries like an earth pony but that will come from the alicorn magic. However you aren’t unkillable, just harder to kill.” Twilight explained an edge of seriousness.
“Any other side effects I should know or things I should know about. Like do you need a blood sacrifice or the blood of a child or some other crazy thing.” Rainbow asked, eyes narrowing in suspicion.
“What! No I don’t need any blood of any sort. Why would you think that?” The alicorn shouted in alarm. How could Dash think that they needed a blood sacrifice?
“Because that's what happens all the time in Daring Do, the bad guy needs a blood sacrifice or something to get the power of the artifact or whatever.” Rainbow said matter of factly.
“No Rainbow, just no.” Twilight said, shaking her head. “As for other side effects, don't think there will be any. But Rainbow there is no coming back from this. It's permanent.” Twilight said a hint of trepidation in her voice. “Once again I’d understand if you don’t wan-“
“Twi My answer hasn’t changed, not one bit.” Rainbow looked Twilight straight in the eyes. A determined look in her magenta eyes.
Twilight couldn’t help but feel like she was pushing Rainbow into a corner. She felt like she was forcing the pegasus to become immortal. Rainbow pulled Twilight into a hug, wrapping her wings around the lavender mare’s barrel. “ I know that look Twi you're not forcing my hoof. I want this more than you could possibly imagine.” Rainbow gave Twilight a soft kiss. “Ok?”
Twilight nodded.“Good, now how soon can you do the spell?” Rainbow asked the alicorn. “Tomorrow at noon, I need to set up the basement with a soundproof barrier spell, a bed to lay on while I cast the spell and a few other minor things.”
“Ok” Rainbow left the hug and got up. “See you tomorrow Twi, Love you”
“I Love you too, Dash” Twilight replied, her cheeks blushing lightly.
With that Rainbow left the Library with a giddy smile that she tried desperately to hide once she was outside. She just couldn’t stop herself, she didn’t expect she’d leave the Golden Oaks Library todays in anything but near tears. Instead the rainbow maned pegasus left with the knowledge that she could live forever with Twilight. Rainbow was almost bouncing like Pinkie Pie, wings forgotten.
“Hiya Rainbow I thought you were supposed to come out of the Library with a frown not a smile so big it could power the train in Ponyville .” Think of the pink one and she shall appear. “Hey Pinkie guess what happened?” As soon as that sentence left her mouth she realized what a terrible mistake she had made by asking Pinkie Pie of all ponies, Guess what happened.
“Oo-oo i love guessing games, did Spike come down the stairs and go stop fighting you two love birds and kiss already. Or did AJ come into the Library and shout ``Rainbow I Love ya.” Rainbow shook her head at the pink ball of energy that was next to her. It was also now that she realized that they reached Sugarcube Corner. How had they got here so fast? You know what Pinkie was right next to her so don’t question it. But being at the bakery gave her an idea.
“Hey Pinkie I need your help with something.”
Twilight was in the library basement setting up what was needed for the magic transfer. She had first moved all of her science equipment to one side of the room and threw a blue tarp over it so it wouldn’t get touched by anything. Next she cast the sound proofing spell in the basement so that no sound could leave or enter the basement the spell would last for 48 hours, just to be safe.
She had also moved her bed down here to lay on and hug the ever loving harmony out of her Dashie. As making physical contact would make the whole magic transfer easier and a little less painful. She knew this because as soon as Dashie left the library she flew up the stairs to her room, almost knocking into Spike who had just woken up from his nap. And started writing a letter to Cadence.
Dear Cadence
I need your help. You know the spell you used to make Shining biologically immortal? I am going to use the spell on my special somepony Rainbow Dash to make her immortal. As I don’t have any love magic, what could I do to make it less painful and easier on both of us.
Love Twilight

Cadence sat on the Crystal throne listening to another crystal pony nobel complain about something. She stopped listening about 20 seconds in, specifically at the point she said “make more bits”. She had left Canterlot in part to not have to deal with nobels. Yet here she was listening to another nobel complai-. That thought was interrupted by a scroll that popped into existence and landed on her lap. She opened the letter with her magic and read it. Eyes widening in glee as she read it. When she finished reading it. She got up off her throne and shouted. “Love emergency, bye!” And zipped to her room and started writing a reply.
What Twilight had received from Cadence the next day was what she had hoped for, a list, a glorious list of things that would lessen the pain of the magic transfer.
Most of it was about how to reduce the pain she experienced when she would start to rip out her alicorn magic and give it to her marefriend. How to hold Dash so her body would accept the magic with less resistance. And it told her not to eat for the night before as she didn’t want to throw up during the transfer. It held a few other side notes like how long it might take her, anywhere from 2 minutes to 10 minutes. And to do it in one shot.
Twilight looked at the basement one last time. Everything was in order it seemed. She had also sent Spike to help Rarity for the day just in case. She looked at the clock, 11:59. One minute till noon.
She left the basement and waited next to the front door for Rainbow who’d most likely be a few minutes late like normal. She jumped as the door opened far sooner than she had been expecting. She steadied herself and looked out the door to see Rainbow at the library on time, a rarity. She also noticed that she had her wings spread out flat holding a box that read “Pinkies Perfect Cakes” on it.
Twilight moved out of the way to let Rainbow in the library. “Hey bookworm where do you want me to put the cake?”
“In the kitchen, please meet me in the basement afterwards.” Twilight answered as she went to the basement.
“Ok” Rainbow replied.
Once Rainbow reached the basement she looked at the site before her, an empty room, Twilight's bed in the middle of said room, with Twilight laying on the bed belly facing the sheets. Blankets and pillows all around her.
Rainbow let out a whistle that implied she was thinking some rather dirty thoughts. Twilight just rolled her eyes. “Get your mind out of the gutter Dash.”
Dash felt a wave of Twilight’s magic boop her in the back of the head. “Twilight look at the room around you and think about the fact that, for me, there is an incredibly sexy mare on the bed in the middle of the room.” Twilight let out a grown at the rainbow maned pegasus’s antics while a blush formed on her face. “Dash please”
Rainbow simply laughed as she flew over to the bed. As she landed she asked “So how are we doing this?”
“Like this” Twilight said as she picked up Rainbow in her magic and repositioned them so that they were laying on their side. Holding each other, chest to chest. Muzzles inches apart. With a blanket covering them. “Twi I’m going to fall asleep like this.” Twilight ignored the comment and continued. “We are like this because I’m going to need your help to do this” Rainbow nodded, determination filling her. “During the transfer I need you to keep me as close to you as possible and as still as possible.”
“Ok I can do that” The pegasus said, all light heartedness had left her as she locked her magenta eyes with Twi’s purple ones.
“Then you're going to encourage me to continue with the transfer cause I may instinctively try to stop. Don’t let me okay no matter how loud I might scream or how much I beg you to let me stop, ok.” Rainbow nodded, no matter what Twilight told her what to do and she would listen.
“At some point you will feel a prick of my magic hit you. I need you to grab it with your pegasus magic and drag it in, it will be instinctual you just need to keep pulling till it runs out.” Rainbow nodded once again.
“All right here we go Dashie, I love you.”
“I love you to Twi.”
Twilight lit her horn up and shaped her alicorn magic into a large flat sheet inside of her, wincing at the feeling of it being shaped. She did the first step she found the amount she needed to give Dash. Then she went to the next step and metaphorically took a knife and started sawing it as if somepony was trying to cut paper with a bread knife. The pain instantaneous as her body tensed up and a blood curling scream left her mouth.
Making Dash wince. Tears were already in Twilight's closed eyes.
Rainbow hugged Twilight a bit tighter and started nuzzling her. Twilight didn’t let the sawing stop for even a second cause if she did she wouldn’t be able to start again. She got about ⅕ of the way there when she “threw” the part that had cut off towards Rainbow.
Rainbow felt some of Twilight's magic prick her in the chest and did as Twilight said and pulled it in. Rainbow could see that twilight was openly crying at this point and muttering “give it back, please give it back.” Rainbow spoke to Twilight “keep going Twilight you can do it” a small smile graced the alicorn's face before another piercing scream left her mouth.
At this point she had cut off a little more than half, when what could be best described as a seizure roared through Twilights body, legs spasming, wings flailing. Rainbow herself did the best she could to keep Twilight still. But as suddenly as it had started it had ended.
All Rainbow could hear was Twilight crying “please give it and let me stop please.” It broke her heart to see Twilight like this but she trusted her. So she kept encouraging the alicorn.
Twilight had reached the last few threads of magic and the ‘knife’ started to stall. She was so close-“Keep going Twi” Twilight gripped the handle of the ‘knife’ and drove it through the last threads of her magic and when it cut the last one setting the magic free they both passed out.
“Rarity! I found them, they’re in the basement.” Yelled Spike
Rarity peeked her head into the basement. Why would they be in the basement she wondered. At first glance one would think that they had Caught Twilight and Rainbow resting after ‘it’( there was a baby dragon right next to her). But on closer inspection, the lack of smell and the absolutely ridiculous amounts of magic in the room made it clear it was not ‘it’. It was most likely some magic experiment Twilight had roped her marefriend into.
“Spike lets them rest ok, come back to the boutique you can have a sleepover with Sweetie Bell for the night.” Rarity left and Spike followed without question. Leaving the two immortals to sleep.
Rainbow woke up first. Her head hurt like it did after she failed one of her tricks. But everything else was energized like she had just drank ten of Pinkie’s extremely caffeinated coffee. She could feel something else in her body that had stuck itself to her pegasus magic, it must be Twilights alicorn magic, She figured as it felt like Twilight’s magic but much more concentrated.
Twilight woke up soon after, blinking tears from her eyes. Her throat was rough like sandpaper most likely because of her screaming she figured. She noticed Rainbow moving around. “Water please“ Twilight managed to croak out. “On it” Rainbow untangled herself from the mess of legs. And zipped up the stairs to the kitchen got a glass of water and brought it to Twilight who drank it eagerly. Once she finished the glass she asked. “Did it work?”
“I think it did.”
“Do you feel my magic in you?” Rainbow nodded “Then it worked Dashie you’re immortal now like me now” Rainbow tackled Twilight into a hug.
The two immortals would be together forever.
