To Dream of Equestriaby David CortezChaptersPrologue- How Did I Get Here?Chapter 1- Just A Dream...Chapter 2- A Fateful MeetingPrologue- How Did I Get Here?“You shouldn’t have done that, pest!” “Shut up! It’s over for you. You’ll be back home, and I’ll be here. We’ll both be happy and out of each other’s lives forever.” “Oh no, you’re not getting away THAT easily! I’ll make sure I’ll get my revenge on you yet!” “What? You can’t be-“ *BANG* “Now we’ll see who goes back and who stays here! I’ll make your life a living HELL!” I woke with a gasp. I gathered my surroundings, but nothing looked familiar. I was in a house I’d never seen before. This made no sense. “Hello?” I called out. No answer. I got out of the bed I was in, and walked downstairs. “No one is here…I wonder where I am?” I asked myself, as I scanned the bookshelves. “Well, this looks like a house with a library in it…But I still don’t know where I am. I wonder if one of these books has an answer?” I ask, looking around. Eventually, I came across a book that piqued my interest. It wasn’t protruding or even that big, but something about it was interesting. Before I could reach for it, I heard the door open. “Hey, you’re awake! I hope it didn’t hurt too much.” a very calm, happy feminine voice said. That didn’t make any sense to me. I really don't know what's going on. I try to remember the last thing that happened, but my mind is just...blank. “I’m sorry, but I have no idea what you’re talking about. Only thing I remember, I was knocked out.” “Good so it didn’t. …Wait. The ONLY thing you remember?” I nodded. “Nothing before I blacked out. …Except for one thing. My mind keeps saying ‘I’m human.’ I’m not sure if it’s just to reassure me I’m not dead or anything, but it’s kind of annoying.” “H-Human? You mean, you don’t remember?” “Not a single thing. I’m afraid I have amnesia. So back to your question…What was supposed to hur-” I ask as I turn around, only to see a pony. I knew I must have been seeing things. But then she talked. “Your transformation, Travis…I mean, Shade. You wanted to be a pony.” “I…What…But I…WHAT?!” I was freaking out, looking myself over. It was true, I was a pony. But how did this happen? “So you do have amnesia. This is probably HER work. …I need to tell you the story, then. Of how you ended up here, in Ponyville.” I looked at my hoof, my whole body shaking. Maybe it’s because I don’t remember anything, but did I really want this? “I know what you’re thinking, but trust me, you asked for this.” She sounded sincere. I placed my hoof down, and sighed. “…Name?” I asked her. “Twilight Sparkle. Faithful student of Princess Celestia.” “…I feel like I can trust you. Please…tell me what happened before I lost my memories.” Twilight smiled, and nodded. “It all started…two months ago tomorrow, while you were still human. It was the day before you got transported here, to Equestria.” “Wait, how do you know what I did that day?” She blushed. “I’m a very detail-oriented pony. I like to know everything, and you didn’t really have a problem telling me what you did the day before you were brought here.” “Oh…okay. Sorry to interrupt you.” She smiled. “Oh no, it’s fine. I had a feeling you’d ask anyway, what with the amnesia. Anyway, it was the day before you were sent here…” -- Date: March 29, 2022 Time: 9:45 AM Location: Travis’ House -- I spun in my chair, rather bored. It was early, too early for anything new on my favorite sites or forums, so I did as usual, and went on YouTube. Watching some of my favorite videos is still funny and all, but after about an hour, I got bored again. I kept refreshing the forum page, but no more than two boards had any new posts in topics, and even then, it was only one or two topics. Sometimes I’d get lucky, but this wasn’t one of those times. I had no idea what to do. With nothing to do, I wanted to watch some television or play a video game. But before that, I wanted to check my favorite fan fiction site one more time before giving up for an hour or two. As usual, my favorites hadn’t updated, but a newly uploaded story caught my eye. ‘How To Be a Pony’ they called it. A fanfic about a book that could change you into a pony, and even send you to Equestria to live the life you always wanted. What a load. I knew it was a fanfic, but they couldn’t have been a little more creative? But then I looked at the description. It wasn’t about the book, it was the book, or rather, the fanfic that claimed this. I laughed. “Well, points for originality, I guess. But man, this guy can’t be serious.” I looked at it. It had thumbs up, but no comments. And apparently, it’s been up for a while. I thought this was odd, but I decided to give it a read. -- Time: 2:15 PM -- I looked at the time. Man, were those chapters long. It was very well written, I must admit, although it was no surprise it didn’t work. I wrote a comment asking if he might make another story. It stated he was online, so I decided to watch some videos while waiting for a reply. -- Time: 9:30 PM -- This was insane. Over seven hours online, and not a single response? Was I really watching videos for THAT long? I was furious, and wanted to hit something. But I calmed myself. “There must be a reason. Maybe he’s …no he would turn it off. What could he be doing?” I asked myself. Then a reply to my comment popped up. “Finally!” I said. I gave it a read. “I apologize, but the author is no longer here. This story is the real deal man. Even now, it’s getting hard to type this out. I’m surprised the effect is taking so long on you. If you don’t believe me, just you wait. Soon, we’ll all be in Equestria.” I scoffed. “You must be joking. How could this possibly-“ Suddenly, I felt a gust of wind from behind me. I turned around, and saw a giant wormhole in my room. I nearly had a heart attack, and jumped in my seat. “…What in blue blazes is THAT thing? Why is it in my room?!” I was hyperventilating as I tried to make sense of what was happening. 'Okay…so the story was true, and the author is now there…in Equestria.' …What nonsense. But it was there…waiting for me. It was blocking my door, so I couldn’t escape my room. “Okay…so it’s blocking me. Not only am I freaking out, I can’t escape this. It’s like a nightmare.” I flexed my hand. It couldn’t have been true. If it was, I would be a pony by now, like the story said. I shook my head. “There’s no way. It’s just some story. This has to be a dream. Or something….” I looked at the time. 9:50 PM. What a late comment. Still, I had to go to bed. I logged out of every site, and went to bed. “I just need to keep it together. I’m seeing things, that’s all it is. Tomorrow, I’ll wake up, and everything will be normal…I hope.” -- Date: March 30, 2022 Time: Unknown Location: Unknown -- “…You’re such a fool. You’ll pay for what you’ve done…” I woke with a gasp. I gathered my surroundings, but nothing looked familiar. I was in a place I’d never seen before. This made no sense. “Hello?” No answer. I was alone in some dark place. Looking carefully, I saw a light. “Oh, thank goodness. A way out of this…forest.” I said, as I walked towards the light. My legs felt heavier than usual, but I could walk just fine. As I got closer to the light, things started looking familiar. But I never lived near a forest. “Just where the heck am I?” I asked myself, as I edged closer to the light. Finally, I got out of the forest. The light was bright, so my eyes were forced closed for a second. After opening them again, I caught my first glimpse of this strange place. Ponyville. Fluttershy’s cottage was to my right, and I saw some ponies walking around. “You have GOT to be kidding me.” Chapter 1- Just A Dream...“…This is a dream. This is not happening.” I say to myself as I scout the area. “That story got me so caught up, that my mind is playing tricks on me. …Well, I might as well enjoy the ride while it lasts.” I took a step, but then backed up. I looked myself over. Still human. That’s what I was afraid of. “Even if this is just a dream…they’ll freak out when they see me. I need to sneak around somehow…” I walk around the back of Fluttershy’s cottage. “Okay…nopony’s here.” I blinked and shook my head. “I mean, nobody. This pony stuff is really getting to me.” I look around the corner. Empty streets, for now, but with windows everywhere, I’d be spotted in an instant. “If I could go see Twilight, maybe she could help…” ‘But chances are she’ll freak out or something. And then where would I be?’ I shook my head. “…I have to try.” I walk behind more houses, just to be safe. After avoiding the streets, I see a fence not too far from me. I walk forward, and crouch behind the fence. I look through the wood planks, and see a big red barn. ‘Wonderful. I’m at Applejack’s farm. There’s no way I can get by without somepony-’ “Okay, y’all. I’ll see you guys later! And make sure Applebloom doesn’t leave the farm!” “Eeyup.” Looking over the fence, I see Applejack and Big Mac. ‘Well, that’s convenient. I can sneak by after she’s gone.’ “Out of all the days, why’d it have to be today?” she asked herself as she passed by me. After she was out of sight, I made my move. Stopping by Rarity’s Boutique, I knew I was getting close. ‘Alright…stay under the windows, then make a beeline for the tree.’ I thought to myself, as I snuck by Rarity. She was saying something to someone, or herself, but I couldn’t make it out. Looking in, I saw she was busy making more dresses. ‘This is too easy…’ I rush towards Twilight’s house, and hide again. “Yes, Spike I know. We’ll buy some more quills tomorrow, okay?” Spike, I’m assuming, sighed. “Fine, fine. Let’s just go back in, Twilight.” I heard the door close, and then I made my move. Making sure nopony noticed me, I knocked on her door. “A visitor? I wasn’t expecting anypony today.” She said as I heard her walk over and open the door. “How can I-” “I need your help, Twilight.” “Um…please…c-come on in…” I walked in as she closed the door. It was pretty roomy, even for me. “Um…may I ask…what you are?” I sighed. “I’m a human. And before you ask, I heard…um, Spike say your name while I was hiding. I didn’t want anyone to see me, as they might have freaked out.” “Wait…a human…” I saw Twilight’s horn glow, as she searched book after book. “Ah-ha, here it is!” She said as she opened it and read a page or two. “I knew I’ve heard of you before.” “Huh?” I asked, confused. “You know, humans. It’s basic mythology.” “…You’ve heard of- …M-Mythology?” She smiled. “Why, yes. Along with Humans there are Manticores, Cerberus, even-” “Wait…Manticore?” “Yes. All these creatures exist, but they’re very rare, and-” “You mean all my sneaking around was for nothing?” She frowned. “Um…yes. Kind of. Nopony would have been…‘freaked out’.” I sighed. “That’s a relief.” I paused, and thought for a minute. “…Wait. I get it.” “Huh? Get what?” “This is all my mind’s doing. No wonder everything has been so convenient.” She raised an eyebrow. “I don’t understand. What are you saying?” “What I’m saying, Twilight, is that this is nothing but a stupid dream.” “What? Why can’t this be real? Everything is possible with magic.” “Where I come from, magic is nothing but cheap parlor tricks.” “What, like Trixie?” I grimaced. “Yes, like her.” She blinked. “How…do you know Trixie?” “In my world…Um…How do I explain? There’s this thing…” “There’s a way for you to learn about us in your world?” “Yes, there is. Speaking of, how did you learn about us?” “Well, we don’t know everything, but according to this, your ‘Earth’ is full of things the book refuses to mention. Is it really that bad?” I frowned. “…Yes. Earth is pretty bad.” “How so?” “I’d… rather not talk about it, Twilight. It’s all a matter of opinion, anyway. But…It’s still terrible. I had always hoped for a change. But, this isn’t what I meant. This is just some silly dream. I’ll wake up tomorrow in my bed, like this never happened.” “A dream, huh? Why don’t we test your theory?” *THUD* “OW! What the heck was THAT for?!” “You acknowledged pain, which means you’re NOT dreaming.” “That proves nothing! I could be in a coma for all I know!” “Hmm.” She tapped her chin with her hoof. “Let me check some books.” As she scanned her huge library, I got a headache. I thought nothing of it, and rubbed my forehead, but it only got worse. The pain increased, and my ears were ringing. “Aaaugh…My head…” I lowered my head, and closed my eyes. I heard her run over to me. “What is it? What’s wrong?” “I-I don’t…” Before I could finish, the pain and ringing stopped. When I opened my eyes, I was in a dark room. “Hello?” “Ah, it worked. Hello, Travis.” “Who are you, and how do you know my name?” I asked, scanning the area. Suddenly, a white pony with beautiful wings and a horn appeared in front of me. “I am Crystal Rose. I am here because of an almost fatal mistake.” “I don’t follow.” “You were sent here by accident, Travis. It’s not your fault, however. You thought it was fake.” “…The fan fiction?” “Precisely. As you can clearly tell, you’re still human. Come with me, and I can send you back to where you belong.” “You’re telling me…that all of this is real?” “…Yes. I know it’s hard to believe, but this is no dream, Travis.” “You still haven’t told me how you know my name, Crystal.” I say, in a very annoyed tone. “I was once like you, Travis. I lived next door to you for a while. But then I ‘moved out’.” “Wait… You’re Crystal, like, my neighbor, Crystal?” “Now you’re getting it. We were quite the couple back in the day.” “…Now I KNOW this is a dream. My old girlfriend, here and turned into a pony?” “But I’m trying to send you back. If this really were your dream, I’d be trying to convince you to stay and become a pony yourself.” “And how exactly, would you know that? I never told you.” She giggled. “I always kind of snuck in back when I was human. You said you wished you could go to Equestria a lot of times.” “…Then why make me go back? Don’t you want me to be happy? You were my girlfriend, Crystal.” “I would, but you’re still human. There aren’t any humans in Equestria, darling.” “Then I’ll-“ “I know what you’re about to say. But it will only make you think it’s a dream even more than you do now.” “This could also be a dream, you know.” “A dream within a dream, Travis? This isn’t Inception. This is real.” “And why should I believe you? For all I know, you could be lying to me. You could have found out about me some other way.” “…Fine. Let us meet then. Tonight in the Everfree Forest clearing at 9:30. Come alone.” “…Whatever you say.” I blacked out again, and when I woke up, I heard Twilight. “Are you okay? Where did you go?” I shook my head, as I looked around. “I don’t know. Someone was talking to me. They want to meet me in person tonight…alone.” “Well, will you?” I folded my arms. “I don’t have much of a choice, Twi. They might have the answers I’m looking for.” Twilight walked in front of me. “As long as you’re not busy right now, why don’t I introduce you to my friends?” I smile a bit. “Sounds good to me.” ‘For a dream, it’s taking me a long time to wake up…Maybe I am in a coma.’ First she lead me to Rarity’s Boutique. She knocked on the door, and Rarity answered. “Why, hello, Twilight, and…” She looked at me, confused. “Who is this?” “This is…Um…” Twilight looked at me. I smack my forehead. “I’m so sorry I forgot to introduce myself first. My name is Travis.” “Well met, Travis.” Twilight said. “I see. Nice to meet you Travis. Are you here for a suit or something?” She asked with a grin. “Um, no, I’m not. I’m just here to meet all of Twilight’s friends.” She frowned. “Well, do come on by should you ever need a wardrobe!” ‘Trust me, I will.’ I thought. “Next up, Sugarcube Corner.” She said as we walked up to a restaurant. “A restaurant?” ‘Oh no. this must be-’ Suddenly, Pinkie Pie jumped in front of me. “Hay! Who is this? What is he? Is he some sort of monster? *gasp* I hope he isn’t mean. I have to throw him a welcoming party! I have to invite all my friends. Are you free Twilight? This afternoon is gonna-” “Would you just be quiet already?!” I yell to Pinkie Pie. “Er, right…This is Pinkie Pie. She’s very…energetic.” “Energetic? It’s like she drank five cups of coffee before breakfast!” “I’m so sorry if I annoyed you…er…” “Travis. Sorry for yelling.” “It’s alright Travis. But this party is gonna be HUGE! I mean-” “She’ll be like this for hours. Let’s go meet Applejack.” Twilight whispered. “…Okay.” We backed up out of Sugarcube Corner, and ran away. “Okay, up next: Sweet Apple Acres.” “This is where Applejack lives, huh?” Twilight smiled and nodded. Before we could walk towards the barn, Applejack walked up to us. ‘Right. I almost forgot she was away.’ “My name is Travis. Twilight is having me meet all her friends.” Applejack smiled. “Name’s Applejack, pardner. I live and work here at Sweet Apple Acres. We have the best apple cider in all of Equestria!” “C…cider?” ‘I hope that isn’t a word for something else.’ “Here, why don’t you try some?” she asked, handing…hoofing me a cup. “Th-thanks.” I say, as I take a sip. “Wait…” I drink some more. “This is just juice!” “Well, duh. What did you think it was, pardner?” “Um…nothing. Thanks for the drink. This is the best apple cider I’ve ever had. Nothing on Earth was ever this good.” I say and drink the whole cup. “…Earth? What in the hay are you talkin’ about, sugar cube?” “…It’s the place I came from, Applejack. It’s…very far away.” “Sorry, Applejack, but Travis and I still need to meet the other two.” “I understand. Y’all come back now, y’hear?” “Of course!” I say with a smile. “Let’s see, next to last is Fluttershy. She lives in a cottage near Everfree forest.” “…So that’s where I was.” “Huh?” “When I arrived here, I was in the Everfree forest.” “Oh, well, you better be careful. If you don’t know where you’re going, you could get lost.” “I’ll keep that in mind, thanks.” We walked up to Fluttershy’s Cottage, and Twilight knocked on the door. “Oh, um, just a second, please.” Fluttershy said. She opened the door, but then jumped back, ‘yelling.’ “Wh-what is that?” “Don’t worry, Fluttershy, he’s not here to hurt you. He’s a friend. Right Travis?” “Of course I am. I don’t want to hurt you, Fluttershy.” She yelped. “He knows my name!” “I just said it, Fluttershy. Of course he knows it.” I rolled my eyes. Fluttershy reluctantly walked up. I smiled at her. “Um…it’s nice to meet you…Travis.” “You too, Fluttershy.” She smiled. “You’re very nice, Travis. You sound like you wouldn’t hurt a fly.” “Thanks…That means a lot.” I say, smiling. ‘Note to self: Do not get angry around her.’ “Well,” Twilight said turning around, “There’s only one pony left.” “Who would that be?” I asked, hiding my knowledge. It was obviously Rainbow Dash. “Rainbow Dash. She is without a doubt the best flier in Ponyville.” “I see. Well, let’s go see her then.” “It might not be so simple. She’s usually literally has her head in the clouds.” “We’ll find a way.” Twilight and I looked up around the sky for a good ten minutes, yet we saw nothing. “Rainbow! Rainbow Dash where are you?!” Twilight yelled. But no answer. I sighed. “Let’s just go. She obviously has better things to do than meet-” *CRASH* I jumped forward, and looked back. I saw Rainbow Dash on a black cloud, which she no doubt just set off. “You guys should see the looks on your faces. You were so scared.” “That’s enough, Rainbow.” Twilight said, seeming calm. She pointed to me. “This is Travis, he’s new here, and I’m having him meet all my friends.” Rainbow flew over to me, and looked me over. “You look pretty cool, Travis. But it could be twenty percent cooler.” “Rarity said if I needed one, she could make a suit for me.” “Oh you don’t need it. But it would be cool if you had it.” I smiled. “I have to go now…I’ll see you later, Rainbow Dash.” “If you ever need a ‘dash’ of awesome, just look to the skies!” she said as she flew off. Twilight smiled and looked at me. “Well, that’s all my friends. What do you think?” I smiled. “Your friends are great. But Pinkie Pie gave me a headache.” Twilight giggled. “Who did you like best?” “Rainbow Dash. She’s so cool…” Twilight raised an eyebrow. “Are you okay? Your face is turning red.” “What? No, I’m fine. It’s just…a sunburn. A light one. It’ll go away.” ‘I can’t possibly tell anyone I have a crush on Rainbow Dash. It’s just weird…’ “If you say so. If you want you can stay at my house until you have to go back to the Everfree forest to meet whoever contacted you.” “Sounds good, Twilight. I’d like that. I love reading books anyway.” “Great!” she said with a smile. As we were walking back, my ears started ringing again, and I winced. “Enjoy your time here while it lasts, Travis. I assure you it won’t be long.” My ears stopped ringing once the voice stopped. Twilight frowned. “What was that?” “That was whoever wants to meet me tonight. She said my time here wouldn’t be long.” “…Well, what does she know? Talk some sense into her tonight, she’ll see. You can be here as long as you like.” “Thanks, Twilight.” I say with a smile. We walked inside her house, and I grabbed a book. “This one seems interesting…” I look at the cover. “Daring-Do and the Quest for the Sapphire Stone. Oh, this is gonna be good.” I sit down, and start reading. Chapter 2- A Fateful Meeting-- Date: March 30, 2022 Time: 9:00 PM Location: Twilight’s Library -- Travis finished the book, and put it down. Looking outside, he could still see light, but it was getting dark. “Hey, Twilight, I need a favor.” Twilight smiled. “Sure. What do you need?” “I know Crystal said to go alone, but I need someone to show me the way to the clearing. I don’t know how to get there.” She smiled. “Of course. Anything for a friend.” “…Friend? We’re friends already?” “Why not? Now come on, it’s getting dark!” “Okay. Thanks, Twilight.” “No problem.” -- Date: March 30, 2022 Time: 9:10 PM Location: Everfree Forest -- Twilight’s horn was bright as we entered the Everfree Forest. “Here it is…The clearing is just ahead, but it’ll be hard to see.” Twilight said, sounding a bit worried. “…I’ll be fine. But…” She sighed, and frowned. “I know, alone… I’ll see you later, then…” she said, and walked away. As I walked into the forest, something appeared on the ground. A bunch of lights, leading me somewhere. “That must be Crystal’s work…” I said to myself, but followed anyway. It was a short walk, and I found myself in the clearing. Looking around, I couldn’t see a thing. “Here, let me light that for you.” Crystal. No doubt that was her voice. “Hello, Crystal.” “Good evening, Travis. I appreciate you arriving early. How have you been?” “…Fine, thank you. Now can we skip this and get to the part where you tell me what you want with me?” She sighed. “You’re just no fun anymore, my dear old Travis. Lighten up a little. All I want…is for you to go back home.” “And there’s the problem. Why?” “I already told you why, and I’m offering you a free trip. No strings, you’ll be back home, and this will be nothing but a bad dream.” “Bad? I love it here! It’s Equestria, Crystal!” “And that’s the problem. You’re a human. Even the most exotic animals in Equestria are just that: animals. You’ll never belong, Travis.” “…You’re not my girlfriend.” “Ex-CUSE me? Of course I-“ “I had my suspicions from our first meeting. There was only ever one person to spy on me in my apartment, ‘Crystal’, and it wasn’t you. It was our neighbor, who had a crush on me. Guess what her name is.” “Y-yeah, f-funny how we had the-“ “Caroline…Her name is Caroline. Not Krystal. You screwed up.” “But Crystal was the next door neighbor. Caroline was next door to HER.” “…Gotcha, faker.” “W-what?” “If you were my girlfriend, you would know that we had two neighbors, not one. We lived somewhat close together. But not so far way that we thought we only had one neighbor.” ‘Crystal’ reeled back. “You…I…” She lowered her head. “Fine you win. …Jerk.” She raised her head. “My name…is Caroline. And I want you back with your girlfriend.” -- Date: March 30, 2022 Time: 9:20 PM Location: Twilight’s Library -- I walked back into- “Wait.” -- Date: May 29, 2022 Time: 7:20 AM Location: Twilight’s Library -- “What’s wrong?” Twilight asked. “I thought you were telling me how this happened to me.” “I am, but there are some parts that need to be from our perspectives. …Which means I’m going to have to get my friends in here, so they can tell their sides when needed. Hang on.” I sighed. “Well, at least I know now.” I decided to look in the mirror again while she was away. I’ll admit, I didn’t look bad. Dark brown, spiky mane, light brown coat, and a smooth, medium-length tail the same color as my mane. It was pretty generic, but I thought if fit me. I also noticed my wings this time, which were folded. I guess I must have wanted to be a Pegasus for some reason. Then something else caught my eye. I was a blank flank. I didn’t bother me much, but I was so used to older ponies having one. Suddenly, the door opened again, and the six walked in. “You remember these ponies right?” I looked at her friends, one by one. “Yes, at least from what you said. Amnesia, remember?” “Yes, sorry.” Twilight said, closing the door with magic. “They said they didn’t mind, so when the time arrives, you’ll be hearing from whoever needs to tell the story. And in case you’re wondering, everyone got a few days off just to be able to help you.” I smiled. “Thanks. That means a lot.” “Now where was I…? Ah yes, I was walking into my library that night…” -- Date: March 30, 2022 Time: 9:20 PM Location: Twilight’s Library -- I walked back into my library, and sat down at my desk. “Are you sure he’ll be okay, Twi?” Spike asked, sounding worried. I nodded. “Don’t worry, Spike. He doesn’t know it, but I put a spell on him. Should he get into any kind of danger, he’ll be teleported back here, safe and sound.” “If you say so.” Spike said, still sounding worried. I sighed. Spike went upstairs to sleep, and I went about my studying. Nothing happened after that until Travis appeared slightly in midair, landing with a soft thud. I checked the clock, and it had only been ten minutes since I arrived. “Oh my. It seems that spell was worth it.” “Ow…What spell?” “I placed a spell on you to teleport you back here if you were to ever be in danger.” “…I see. She did try to attack me, so I guess that sent me back.” “Why would she attack you? What does she want with you?” “She wants to send me back. Back to Earth. …I’ll tell you what happened after you left.” -- Date: March 30, 2022 Time: 9:20 PM Location: Everfree Forest -- “But…why? If it’s real, which it’s not, then it’s a dream come true. If it’s a dream, which it is, then I just have to wait to wake up. Lucid dreams can last a long time.” “Travis…you naïve little foal. No matter if it’s a dream or reality, you don’t belong. You need to go home.” “And I will, of my own accord. I don’t need you pushing me away from this!” “Travis…please. You’re being irrational. Just come with me. Your girlfriend misses you, I’m sure of it.” “You’re still acting like this is real? Well, if it is, why even leave? Crystal had the hots for some other guy anyway. This, here, is all I-“ “YOU INSOLENT LITTLE FOAL! I SHOULD BUCK YOU IN THE FLANK!” “…Flank? You mean…My-“ “SILENCE! YOU’RE NOT STAYING HERE, LITTLE PONY! EVER!” “…Excuse me, but-“ “NOT ANOTHER WORD! YOU AND ALL THOSE OTHER PONIES-“ “I’m not a pony, Crystal.” “YES YOU…..Oops.” “You can’t be serious. I’m not-“ “Yes. You are. I just… Halted it. Temporarily. That’s why you’re still ‘human’.” “W….WHAT?! You…You halted my transformation?!” “Only what I could. My spell makes you appear as human to everyone. Including yourself. You can still even pick up things like a human. The guise is really quite convincing, wouldn’t you say?” “…Why?” She sighed. “Because…I’m not your neighbor. I know you lied, but… I know that no one ever peeked into your room.” “Then…How do you know me, and my love for My Little Pony?” “…You’re saying…you forgot me? I was almost certain you would recognize me, Travis.” “I can’t say I do. Your voice is…familiar, but I can’t put my finger on it…” “…Before I tell you, I must ask again. Do you think this is still a dream?” “There is no doubt in my mind, Crystal.” “Going by my pony name, huh? It doesn’t matter. I’ll prove to you somehow that this is real. …I won’t tell you my name. Yet.” “Yet, why not?” “Until you believe without a doubt this this is real, I will never reveal myself.” “…Do you still want to send me back? You seem to want me to believe this is real, mostly.” “…Once you believe that this is real, I’ll tell you everything.” “…I hate you.” “What?!” “You forced my transformation to a halt, somehow. I’m supposed to be a pony, but I appear human…You want me to not belong. Give me an excuse to leave. But I won’t. Maybe when I wake up, but not now, or ever until this dream is over.” “…You sicken me,” Crystal said as she lifted a hoof. “I’ll have your head!” She said, her hoof raised above her head. I was sweating. She was planning to hit me! I wanted to move, but I was in shock, and my body wasn’t responding. “Now, Travis. I will MAKE you believe that this is real!” She yelled, and thrust her hoof forward. The next thing I knew…I was in Twilight’s Library, and landed softly on the floor with a dull thud. -- Date: March 30, 2022 Time: 9:35 PM Location: Twilight’s Library -- “That must have been quite the encounter. So you say you met her before?” “Yes, her voice was vaguely familiar. I know I met her before, but I can’t place where.” “And…you still think this is a lucid dream?” “…I apologize, Twilight. I just…can’t believe this.” I said as I looked away. Twilight put a hoof to my chin, and I looked at her. “Look, Travis. I don’t know why you’re so sure…but I won’t hold it against you. We’re friends, right? And friends help each other no matter what!” I smiled. “Thank you, Twi.” Twilight then looked at me. She seemed confused. “Twi? Only my friends call me that.” ‘Uh-oh.’ I thought. I had feared I had to explain how I heard that name, until she hugged me. “That confirms it! We’re best friends!” I smiled as wide as I could, and hugged her back. “Thank you…That means a lot to me.” In that moment…I didn’t want it to end, but my mind was convinced that it had to…eventually. And that moment didn’t seem too far from now. I let go of the hug, and stood up. ‘I’ll go to bed tonight, and tomorrow….I’ll be at home. Like I always am.’ I thought. I am…pessimistic, to say the least. “Twilight…” “Yes, Travis?” “…In case this really is a dream…I had fun. I’ll miss you…” Twilight sighed. “…I… I hate to hear you talk like that. I’ll see you tomorrow. You can sleep in the guest bed I laid out for you.” “Thanks, again Twilight. Have a good night’s rest.” She smiled. “You too.” I lied down in the guest bed. It was a little uncomfortable, but I didn’t mind it. It was only temporary, after all. I went on my side, let my head down on the pillow, and slowly drifted off to sleep. I was certain that when I opened them, I would be back in my room, as if none of this had ever happened. ***** I opened my eyes, and looked around. I couldn’t believe it. I was back home. I was right all along…but did I want to be? Equestria was the one place I wanted to go. Why leave? Maybe I just can’t stand when I know something is fake. It certainly felt real. I stood up and stretched. As I looked around, everything was back in its place. ‘Back to normal.’ I thought to myself. I sat down in my chair, and I reached for my mouse. But then, I stopped. Something felt off about all of this. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but something was definitely wrong. I got up, and looked. Nothing was off. Everything was in the same place as it was when I left. So why did it feel so…fake? I opened my apartment door. Same hallway, same doors. Everything was….Perfect. That’s what’s bugging me! Nothing is this pristine! Something was very wrong about this place, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Why was is so perfect, so untouched? I read somewhere lucid dreams last about as long as you dream, and that was a whole day. So why then, did no one try to wake me up, in any way? Was this…a dream? I was dreaming my entire apartment. Why? Was that Equestria thing…real, just like Crystal said? I couldn’t believe it. I was dreaming that I was back in my apartment. As I realized this, everything started going black. I surrounded the room, blinding me, and then, before I could try to escape, it swallowed me whole. ***** -- Date: March 31, 2022 Time: 12:30 AM Location: Twilight’s Library -- I awoke in a cold sweat, and gasped. I looked around. Back in Twilight’s library as expected. ‘This…this couldn’t be real. I have to be imagining this entire thing. Why am I here? Crystal…Alice, said that it was the story. That this is all too real. But, I can’t believe her. Not after she tried to attack me. I had to find the answer, even if I had to do it alone. Even if it meant abandoning my friends.’ I stopped for a moment, and looked up. ‘ …Friends? My friends. These ponies that I had met in person yesterday…are my friends? I mean, I had watch every episode, and I kind of already knew them, but to become friends in one day? I’m not even sure how to explain that thing about Rainbow…But that’s not important right now.’ I sit up, and look around. ‘I guess Twilight is sleeping upstairs.’ I thought, and decided not to move, as I might wake her. I yawned, and lied back down. Maybe I could get some sleep this time. -- Date: May 29, 2022 Time: 9:30 AM Location: Twilight’s Library -- “…I think that’s enough for now. Besides, we have to prepare for something.” Twilight said with a smile. “Prepare? For what?” I asked. “It’s a surprise!” Twilight said. “It’s going to be awesome!” Rainbow said with a smile. “I’m so excited! Are you excited? ‘Cause I’m excited! Not as excited-“ Pinkie rambled on. “It will be most delightful.” Rarity said. I could almost see the sparkles in her eyes. “It, um….will be quite nice, I hope.” Fluttershy said, looking worried. Based on what Twilight said, this is quite usual for her. “Yee-haw! It’s gonna be the best, ya hear? Just you wait ‘till tomorrow, pardner!” I couldn’t have looked more confused. What was going on? Did I forget something else? Twilight giggled. “Don’t worry about it. We’ll be bus all day, actually, which is the real reason we have the day off. We have to get everything ready. Just stay here, and enjoy yourself, okay?” “Twilight…before you leave…” I said, with a worried look. “Y-yes? What is it?” Twilight looked somewhat confused. “You mentioned something in your story, twice now, that I want to ask about.” Twilight jumped. She was sweating bullets, and her eyes shifted. She knew, but still asked, “W-what is that?” “I believe you know, but I will ask anyway.” I sighed, and looked her in the eye. “How do you know I have a crush on Rainbow Dash, and what I was thinking?”
Prologue- How Did I Get Here?“You shouldn’t have done that, pest!” “Shut up! “You have GOT to be kidding me.”
Chapter 1- Just A Dream...“…This is a dream.
