To Find A Place

So it’s my second day here, I think. I don’t know if it’s past midnight or not, I don’t have a clock. I couldn’t sleep at all last night (or is it still night?) because I can never sleep without my RD plushie. The “staff” –that’s what we call them- were up talking all night, so it’s not like I could get much sleep anyways…  I heard a few people talking about the staff putting us with roommates, I don’t know why but I kind of want Taylor to be my roommate…

“Kai, you’re awake! Good. I want you to meet your new roommate.” A staff member I had never met stood at the door. “I’m Sasha; I’ll be your staff for today. And this is your roommate.” She stepped away to reveal the boy behind her, the guy with the hoodie.

“Oh, hey. Uhmmmm, you’re Brendan right?” I looked down, disappointed it wasn’t Taylor.

“…that’s me…” Brendan replied. “Were you expecting someone else? I’m always put with the new kids.”

“Wait, how long have you been here?” I replied, imagining all the people he had roomed with.

“…about a year and a half, I think… My sister’s been here longer though….”

“Whoa! Holy shit dude! How messed up are you?” I calculated in my head about how many new things he had missed. And who’s his sister? I added in my head.

Brendan chose not to answer just looked away and waited for the staff to wheel another cot in for him. When they did he lay down on it and pretended to sleep, at least I think he was pretending. Before I could even lay back down Sasha came back in saying it was time for breakfast.  Breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, sausage, a hash brown, and OJ. This ain’t half bad… I thought as I hungrily stuffed the food down my throat. When I looked up almost everyone was eating, Pink was nearly done, she ate fast. Blue, Abby, and Kim were slowly picking at their plates, as were Josh and Kevin. Brendan, Jessika and Taylor hadn’t even touched their food yet.

“Yo, are you gonna eat that?” Pink looked at Jessika’s plate eagerly.

“Back off freak.” Jessika shot cold eyes in Pink’s direction. As Pink lowered her head, looking sad.

“Have mine.” Brendan passed his food to Pink. “I’m not hungry.” Pink happily took the food and ate it; it was amazing how skinny she is considering how much food she eats. Taylor watched the whole thing like it was amusing, I couldn’t take my eyes off him, his eyes were captivating. Kai! What are you thinking? You’re straight! I argued in my head.  I ducked my head so no one could see me blushing then got up and left, going to the lounge. I got there and lay down on the couch. Little did I know Taylor and Jessika had followed me.

“Hey, new kid, what are you doing? Checking out my best friend?” Jessika leaned in, scowling in my face. I blushed; I had thought no one had noticed.

“Oh, leave him alone, it’s not his fault I’m gorgeous.” Taylor flipped her bangs away from her face again. Uhmmmm, is he gay? I wondered, thinking maybe I had a chance at dating him. I just had to ask!

“Are you gay?” I asked, instantly regretting it from the look I got from Jessika.

“No, I’m perfectly straight, sorry if that disappoints you. “ Taylor gave me a little wink and I swear my heart started beating faster. I got up and left before my face could turn completely red. I got to my room to discover Brendan already there.

“..your face, it’s red…” Brendan commented when I came in.

“I, uhmmmm….” I stuttered, trying to find an explanation.

“…I see, my sister has that effect on guys…” Brendan rolled over and ended the conversation. So, if his sister was in that room with me, then she must be Jessika… But Jessika wasn’t the one who had that effect on me… I thought before taking some paper and a pencil and started sketching a picture of Rainbowdash humanized version. I do that a lot, humanized versions of the ponys. But with clothes on, I’m not a clopper. For some reason though I started drawing Jessika, she just seemed a bit like Rainbowdash does when she was pissed off today…
