The Girl With The Bracelet / The Terrifing Blue Eyes White Dragon
After being accused of being a person called Anon-A-Miss, a young teenage girl named Sunset Shimmer is left with nothing and no one.
Everyone hated her.
Her friends turned their backs on her.
There was no longer a place for her at Canterlot High School.
Seeing no other option, She decided to leave. She went to talk to Principal Celestia, who was also her mother, (That’s right Bronies we are going down that route) about changing schools, which resulted in a long row between mother and daughter. Eventually, the argument reached a point where Sunset broke out in tears, and Celestia could see how much pain she was in. This finally convinced her to suggest a solution. She would send her to move in with her sister Luna, who was a teacher at a high school in Domino City, which was in Japan. Sunset was a little bit concerned about being sent so far away, but she agreed. And so, Sunset Shimmer moved from the USA to Japan, where she now lives with her Aunt Luna in Domino City.
A new day had dawned, and Sunset slowly opened her eyes. She hardly recognised her room, which felt really strange, until she remembered why she was there.
“Oh, yeah, I’m living in Japan now. I guess I wasn’t dreaming,” She said to herself with a frown.
She got up and started doing her morning ritual, going to the bathroom, and putting on her new school uniform. “I’m so not used to wearing a skirt,” She said to herself in disappointment. She then reached over to her dresser and picked up a golden bracelet with a golden pendant that looked like an eye. She placed it on her wrist and looked in the mirror. She then raised her arm, making the classic Sailor Moon pose. She then lowered her arm and raised her eyebrow. “I have no idea why I just did that,” She said in confusion. She then shrugged, before picking up her satchel and heading out of her room.
She entered the kitchen, where her Aunt Luna was cooking a bacon and cheese omelet for her breakfast. The smell had her drooling as she sat down at the table.
“Good morning, Sunset,” Luna said, “I made your favourite.” She placed a plate in front of her, as Sunset took note of the apron she was wearing. It had Japanese Kanji on it.
“What does that mean?” She asked, pointing to her apron
“It means,” Luna paused, before saying hesitantly, “Love The Cook.”
“OK,” Sunset said slowly.
“Don’t judge me,” Luna said with narrowed eyes. “It’s not like I knew what it said when I bought it.”
“Right,” Sunset said skeptically, “and you’ve been living here for how long?”
“Anyway,” Luna said, changing the subject, “I’m afraid I won’t be able to take you to school, because I have the early shift. You’ll have to go on your own.”
“Well, that shouldn’t be too hard,” Sunset said, “I know the basic directions to the school, and if I need to, I can just follow the other students.”
“Well, alright then, but I really must get going, now,” Luna said as she took off the apron, grabbed her bag, and headed for the door. “Have a good day, Sunset.”
“Yeah, see you later, Aunt Luna,” Sunset said, before she went back to eating her breakfast. Once she was done eating, she cleared the table and put the plate and cutlery in the dishwasher, turned it on, and then headed off to her new school.
As she was walking along the street, she saw some other students walking in the same direction. They were all chatting casually with each other. The girls were wearing the same uniform as hers. She wasn’t paying much attention. She had enough on her mind as things were. She followed the students all the way to her new school.
In her new School, Sunset was now on her way to her first class. She was very deep in thought, and wasn’t watching where she was going. Suddenly, she crashed into someone.
A short boy with anime style hair fell on the ground, as a pack of playing cards scattered all over the floor.
“Oh no, my cards!” He said, crawling around on the floor to pick them up.
“Oh, god, I’m sorry,” Sunset apoligzed. “I wasn’t watching where I was going.” She knelt down to help the boy pick up his cards. As she was gathering them up, She looked closely at some of them. “These are some strange playing cards,” She said curiously.
“They’re Duel Monsters cards,” The boy explained.
Sunset was about to ask further, but before she could, their confusion was interrupted as the school bell rang.
“Oh no, I have to get to class,” said the boy.
“Uh, yeah, me too,” Sunset quickly said.
The boy ran to class and Sunset did the same.
Soon, Sunset waited outside of the classroom, before she was called in by a female teacher. She stepped inside of the classroom and stepped in front of the board at the front of the classroom. “Hello, my name is Sunset Shimmer,” She introduced herself. “As you can tell, I am not Japanese. I am in fact from the USA. Let's try and get along.” She finished with what she hoped was a winning smile.
The teacher then held out a stick of chalk. “Can you please write your name on the board?” She asked.
“Yes, maam,” Sunset replied. She takes the chalk and writes her name on the board in English.
“Ms Shimmer, could you please write your name in Japanese?” Her aunt asked.
“Sorry, force of habit,” Sunset said sheepishly. She then rewrote her name in Japanese. (Fun fact: it looked like this. サンセットシマー.)
Introductions over, her aunt looked for an empty chair. “There’s a seat next to Miss Mazaki,” She said, pointing.
Sunset walks over and sits next to a girl with brown hair and blue eyes. “Hi, I’m Anzu. Guess we’re desk bubbies, now,” She said with a smile.
“Uh, no,” Sunset said dismissively,” No, not really.”
“Oh,” Anzu said disappointedly, “OK, then.” The two girls then went about doing their school work. “What’s with this girl,” Anzu thought to herself, “Why’d she just give me the cold shoulder like that?”
(Later That Day)
It was now lunchtime, and Sunset was about to eat her lunch when she heard Anzu talking excitedly. “And with that I destroy your monster, and win the game!”
“Aww, man, not again,” Groaned a boy.
“Sorry, Jounouchi, nothing personal,” Anzu said with a chuckle.
Now curious, Sunset looked across to see what they were playing, recognising the playing cards they were using. “Aren't those the cards that boy dropped?” She asked herself.
“Interested in Duel Monsters?” Asked an unfamiliar voice.
Sunset turned to look, and saw a dark haired boy, giving her a wide grin.
“Well, I did crash into that boy over there,” Sunset explained, pointing over to said boy who was watching Anzu and the other boy begin another game. “And he had a deck of them.”
“That's cool. Would you like me to explain how to play?” He asked.
“Sure, if you don’t mind,” Sunset replied.
“Okay, first, you need a deck. 40 cards is the minimum and 60 is the maximum,” He began.
“OK, go on,” Sunset nodded.
“There are 3 different types of cards. Monsters, Spells and Traps. Monster cards can be summoned simply by playing them from your hand, and there are four types of Monster cards, Normal, Effect, Ritual, and Fusion. Spells are used to power your monsters or put your opponent’s monsters at a disadvantage. Traps are set to, well, trap your opponent. Now, Ritual monsters are special, you need to use a Ritual Spell to summon it. And last but never least, Fusion Monsters are summoned from the Fusion Deck by playing a Spell Card called Fusion,” He explained in detail.
“Wow, this game sounds complicated,” Sunset said with raised eyebrow.
“Yep, but there's more,” The boy went on. “Trap Cards are divided into different variations of traps. Normal Traps are used normally. Counter Traps are used to counter your opponent's Traps. And there are also Continuous Traps, which stay on the field after they are activated, and as long as they are face up, you can keep using their effects.”
“Spells have Normal, Continuous, Equip, Field, Quick Play and Ritual Types. Equip spells are used to equip a Monster, giving it more attack points, or other effects. Quick Play Spells can be activated at any time from your hand or during your opponent’s turn as long as you set it on the field. Ritual Spells can only be used to summon a Ritual Monster. And one of the best spells are Field Spells. They can let you change the conditions on the field, letting you control the field depending on what Field Spell you use,” He finished explaining.
“Well, the way you explained the game, you must play a lot,” Said Sunset.
“Yeah, you can say I grew up with this game.” The boy said. He then looked closely at Sunset and saw the bracelet on her left wrist. “That’s a unique item,” he commented.
“Yeah, it was a parting gift from a friend,” Sunset said with a slight frown.
“Say, the symbol on your bracelet is the same as that boy's puzzle,” He said, pointing to the boy Sunset crashed into.
“Wow, your right. Wait, I don’t know your name,” Sunset said.
“You have a point. I know your name but you don’t know mine. My name’s Cheshire,” He introduced himself.
Sunset couldn’t help giggling. “Like the cat from Alice In Wonderland?” She asked with an amused smile.
“Ironically, yes,” He said, rolling his eyes. “My Mother really loved Alice In Wonderland, and decided if she had a girl she would call her Alice and if she had a boy, she would call him Cheshire cause her favourite character was the Cheshire Cat.”
Just then, Sunset realised this was the first time she had shown any form of happiness in a very long time. Sunset looked at Cheshire and asked, “Hey, Cheshire, what’s that boy's name? The one with the golden pyramid thing around his neck?.”
“His name is Yugi Moto and his Grandpa owns a game shop,” He answered.
“Thanks Cheshire,” Sunset said as she stands up from her deck and approaches Yugi. “Hi, sorry about before when I crashed into you,” She said sheepishly.
“Aw, it’s okay, no harm was done,” Replied Yugi with a friendly smile.
“By the way, that guy over there,” She pointed to Cheshire who waved.
“Hi, Cheshire,” Yugi waved back.
“He pointed out that my bracelet and your Puzzle have the same symbol,” She showed her bracelet to Yugi.
“Wow, your right!” He said in surprise. “I wonder if my grandpa knows anything about it.”
“Hey, maybe you can take the new girl back to your house,” Joked Jounouchi.
“Yeah and maybe the two of you could make a cute couple,” Joked the other guy.
“Quiet, you two,” Anzu told them sternly.
“Well, in any case, they are right, you should see my Grandpa. I'm sure he knows something about your bracelet,” Said a positive Yugi.
Sunset then looked at the time. “Welp, I’d better get back to my lunch. Talk later,” She said as she got up and headed back to her desk.
The day went on and once it ended, Sunset met with Yugi and the others.
“Alright, so which way is it?” She asked.
“Just follow us,” Said Yugi.
“Yeah, Yugi’s Grandpa’s got something for everyone. Hey, Yugi, didn’t you say that your Grandpa has a super rare card?” Said Jounouchi.
“Yeah, Grandpa traveled all over the would. He’s got a collection of all kinds of stuff,” Answered Yugi with a smile.
Unknown to them, someone else overheard about the rare card.
On their way, Sunset looked at the browned haired boy. “Hey, I don’t know your name,” She said.
“Oh, yeah, sorry, it’s Honda,” He introduced himself.
“Nice to meet you,” Sunset replied.
They soon reached the game shop. “Grandpa, I’m home!” Yugi called.
A elderly man behind the counter looked up and smiled at his grandson. “Welcome home, Yugi,” he said cheerfully. He then saw his grandson with his friends. “And I see you brought company,” He said.
“Yep! Oh, this is our new friend Sunset, and she has something to show you,” Yugi said.
Sunset approached the counter and showed her bracelet to Yugi’s Grandpa. His eyes lit up with pure excitement. He then pulled out a magnifying glass to examine it closer. “Well, this is something special, it's definitely Egyptian. Probably from the same age as your Puzzle, Yugi. Tell me, young lady, where did you get this item?” He asked.
“It was a gift from a friend,” Sunset answered.
“Oh, your friend must have traveled a lot to find this beauty,” He said, before letting go of Sunset’s bracelet. “All I know is that the bracelet is Egyptian and it is similar to Yugi’s Puzzle.” He explained.
“So it’s valuable?” Asked Jounouchi.
“Oh yes, very valuable,” Grandpa replied.
“Cool, let’s sell it!” Said Jounouchi.
Anzu reached up and pinched Jounouchi’s ear. “You don’t sell gifts from friends Jounouchi!” She reprimanded him.
“Ow ow ow! Alright alright I get it!” Jounouchi complained, before Anzu let go of his ear.
“Speaking of gifts from friends, I have something to show you kids,” Grandpa said as he reached for a box underneath the counter. “I don’t bring this out just for any occasion,” He opens the box to reveal a Duel Monsters card. “This is my treasure. It was given to me by a dear friend of mine. I’ve had this card for years,” He explained. They all looked in awe at the card.
“The Blue Eyes White Dragon? How is this card so rare?” Asked Sunset.
“Well, there are only four of these cards in the whole would,” Grandpa said proudly.
“Wow, you’re lucky, Mr Moto.” Sunset said with a smile.
“Oh, ho, no need to be formal. Just call me Grandpa, everyone does,” Grandpa said with a smile and a chuckle.
Just then, before anything else could happen, the shop bell rang as the door swung open, and there was a young man from the school standing in the door frame.
“Hello, can I help you?” Asked Grandpa.
“I doubt it, I don’t think this…” He began to say, but he stopped when he saw the Blue Eyes White Dragon. He pushed through the group to the counter, staring in wide eyed shock. “Why is the legendary Blue Eyes White Dragon in a place like this?!”
Grandpa then closed the box. “Well, that’s enough window shopping,” He said.
“Hey, Anzu, who is this guy?” Asked Sunset.
“That’s Seto Kaiba. He runs a huge corporation,” Replied Anzu.
Kaiba then throws his suitcase on the counter and opens it. It was full of different Duel Monsters cards. “Listen old man, I'll trade you all these cards for that one!” He said forcefully.
“As nice as they are, my answer is no,” Grandpa replied.
“If you don't want to trade, then I’ll buy it, name your price!” Kaiba pressed.
“I’m sorry Mr Kaiba, but I can not sell or trade this card. It was a gift from my close friend. It means more to me than anything else in the would,” Grandpa explains. Sunset was moved by Grandpa's words. “My final answer will be no,” Said Grandpa.
Needless to say, Kaiba was angry. “Listen here old man, I control this city and I can have this shop closed down!” He shouted, slamming his fist on the counter.
“Leave him alone, Kaiba!” Sunset spoke up.
Kaiba looked at Sunset. “You're the new girl!” He said.
“Yeah, I’m the new girl, and Grandpa said no enough times, so take the hint and leave him alone!” Shouted Sunset.
Kaiba took his case and walked to the door, “This isn’t over!” He threatened, before they heard him being driven away in his limousine.
“Oh, now that was cool!” Exclaimed Jounouchi, impressed.
“Yeah, the way she talked to Kaiba just now!” Agreed Honda.
Sunset was happy to see how much these guys liked her.
After a while, Sunset said goodbye to her new friends and went home. She laid down on her bed, thinking about the day. “I think I can now move on from my past,” She said to herself happily.
The next day, Sunset went to school. It was a normal and uneventful day, but she couldn't help notice that Kaiba was absent, but that didn’t bother her that much. Once the day was over, she met up with Yugi and the others and they all headed for the game shop.
They chatted casually as they approached the shop, and then Yugi opened the door. “Grandpa, I’m… Grandpa? Where is he?” He asked in confusion at the empty shop.
“Did he go out?” Asked Sunset.
“If he did, why would he leave the door unlocked?” Asked Anzu.
Just then, the phone rings, and Yugi answers it. “Hello?... Kaiba!...Kaiba! What did you do to my Grandpa? Kaiba!”
“What’s happened?” Asked Anzu.
“Kaiba has my Grandpa!” Answered Yugi in worry.
“Well, then, let’s go! We need to help him!” Said Sunset.
The group made their way to The Kaiba Corp building. When they got there, they saw Cheshire walking out of the building. “Hey guys, I saw a couple of Kaiba’s goons taking Grandpa inside.” He said.
They all entered the building and rode the elevator to the top floor, and found Yugi’s Grandpa, lying on the floor. Kaiba was towering over him like a tyrant. “Ah, Yugi, just in time,” He said with a wicked smirk.
Yugi’s Grandpa managed to raise his head to look at him. “Yugi, I tried to show this hooligan the Heart of the Cards,” He struggled to say.
“Yes, this old fool tried and failed,” Said Kaiba deviously. He then reached into his pocket and pulled out Grandpa’s Blue Eyes White Dragon. “And looked at my prize,” He said.
Everyone glared daggers at Kaiba. “So, what are you planning to do with that card?” Asked Cheshire.
“I think it's obvious,” Kaiba said, as they all saw that he was about to tear the card in half.
“STOP!” Shouted Sunset.
Kaiba looked at Sunset. “Oh, by whose authority?” He asked sarcastically.
“You think you're some titan? All you’ve done is hurt an elderly man!” Sunset said with anger.
“She has a point, anyone can hurt an old man. But that doesn’t prove anything,” Agreed Cheshire.
Kaiba raised an eyebrow. “Okay, losers, here's the deal. I will take one of you on in a duel, and if you win, I’ll give back this card, but if I win, I take the shop and everything inside,” Kaiba explained his demands.
Everyone was shocked by Kaiba’s terms. “You can’t be serious!” Shouted Jounouchi.
“Oh, I’m dead serious,” Kaiba with a cold smirk. “And if Yugi wants his Grandpa’s card back, He’ll have to defeat me in a Duel.”
“This isn’t fair, Yugi could lose everything,” Said Sunset.
“Unfortunately, we’re powerless here,” Said Cheshire.
At this point, Grandpa, with the last of his strength, held out his deck to Yugi. “Yugi, take this, show him the Heart of the Cards and save my treasure,” He said weakly.
Yugi nods, taking his Grandfather's deck. “Kaiba, I accept your challenge!” He said with a determined look.
“Alright then, meet me in the arena when you're ready. Don’t keep me waiting,” Kaiba said as he walked to the Duel Arena.
“Guys, take my Grandpa to a hospital. I’ll deal with Kaiba,” Yugi said to his friends.
“Hold on, Yugi,” Anzu said, as she stepped into the middle of the group. “Everyone, put your hands in the centre and I’ll mark us with a special seal.”
Everyone put their hands in the centre, except Sunset and Cheshire.
“Come on, guy’s,” Said Jounouchi.
“Anzu said everyone, this includes you two,” Said Yugi with a smile.
Sunset was touched by her new friends at how they wanted her to take part in this moment. Cheshire just smiles and the two of them hold out their hands in the circle. Anzu then draws her seal on their hands. It looked like a happy face.
After that, Sunset, Joounouchi and Cheshire stay with Yugi, while Anzu and Honda take Grandpa to the hospital.
“Does Yugi have a chance to defeat Kaiba?” Asked Sunset.
“I’m not sure, we’ll have to see how the Duel goes,” Replied Cheshire.
Yugi and Kaiba stood on their platforms. The Duel begins with Kaiba making the first move.
Yugi: 2000 / Kaiba: 2000
He started by summoning his Hitotsu-Me Giant, as a giant green monster with one eye appeared on the field.
“What the hell!” Said a surprised Sunset.
“A real monster!” Said a shocked Jounouchi.
“No, it's all holograms,” Explained Cheshire.
“So this is how you defeated my Grandpa!” Yugi looked at his hand, and he summoned his Winged Dragon Guardian Of The Fortress, and he destroyed Kaiba’s Hitotsu-Me Giant.
A young dark haired boy ran into the stadium. “Big Brother!” He called as Kaiba’s Life Points went down.
Kaiba: 2000 - 200 = 1800
“Yippee!” Jounouchi cheered. “You did it!”
“Well, he made it through round one,” Sunset said with relief.
“Yes, but this is only the beginning,” Cheshire said as Kaiba drew his next card.
“It won't be interesting if I don’t at least have a Handicap,” He said, before playing his next card. “I use this card to attack!” On his field, a creepy masked monster in a jester’s outfit appeared.
“OK, he’s just creepy,” Said a creeped out Sunset.
Yugi seemed confused. “The Dark Clown? But it’s ATK is so low.”
“Indeed, your Winged Dragon’s attack is 1400, while my Dark Clown’s is only 600,” Kaiba said, before playing another card from his hand, “But if I combine it with this card…”
Yugi gasped, “A Magic Card!”
“Yes,” Continued Kaiba, “The Negative Energy Generator. It multiplies the attack of Dark Attribute monster by three.” A wave of dark energy surrounded the Clown as it grew in size and strength. ATK: 600 - 1800 “Saggi The Dark Clown attacks! Dark Glide!” Kaiba commanded with a sinister smirk, the Clown raising his hands, a black ball forming in its hands, which it hurled at the Dragon, wiping it off the field.
Yugi: 2000 - 400 = 1600
“How's the destructive power of a combo attack?!,” Kaiba said.
“Looks like Kaiba has the advantage now,” Commented Chesire.
“Can Yugi turn things around again?” Asked Sunset.
“You bet he can,” Jounouchi said.
Yugi drew his next card, before playing another card from his hand. This time, he played the card face down, and the corresponding square on the field lit up.
“Dark Glide!” Kaiba called his next attack and destroyed the monster.
“What are you doing?!” Shouted Joey.
“Looks like he’s really in a tight spot now,” Sunset said.
“Indeed,” Said Cheshire.
The next two turns followed the same pattern, with Kaiba destroying Yugi’s defending monsters, smirking and chuckling all the while. He then went on to say, “So this is the deck that dying old geezer left you?” He smirked even more. “I can hear his dying breath with each card you draw.”
“Grandpa left me these cards because he believes in me!” Yugi stated firmly. “I can hear the burning ambitious soul of my grandpa!” His frown deepened as he said, “Kaiba, do you have that kind of belief in your cards?!” Yugi then reached for his deck. “I believe in these cards!” He drew his next card, looked at it, and then smiled. “The card I drew is Dark Knight Gaia! Holding 2300 ATK points, he attacks the Dark Clown!” The next monster was a powerful warrior on horseback, wielding twin lances. Kaiba recoiled as It charged across the field. “Spiral Shaver!” The knight thrust his lance at the clown, destroying it. “He’s beaten!”
Kaiba: 1800 - 500 = 1300
“Good job, Yugi!” Joey cheered.
“It’s too early to celebrate,” Said Cheshire.
“What do you mean?” asked Sunset with a worried frown.
“Kaiba still has Grandpa’s Blue Eyes,” Cheshire reminded them.
“We still don’t know the winner yet!” announced Yugi smugly.
“Ha!” Kaiba scoffed. “The conclusion has already been decided!” He drew his next card and looked at it, narrowing his eyes. “Blue Eyes White Dragon!” He announced. All Yugi, Jounouchi and Sunset could do was stare in shock and anger as a huge dragon with blue scales and deep blue eyes appeared, as it let out a loud, fearsome roar.
“N-No!” Yugi exclaimed, eyes wide.
“He wouldn’t!” Jounouchi shouted in disbelief.
“He couldn't!” Shouted Sunset in shout.
“That was no surprise,” Muttered Cheshire.
“Blue Eyes White Dragon attacks!” Kaiba called, “Burst Stream Of Destruction!” The Dragon opens its mouth wide, a ball of blue-white energy forming in its mouth, before it launches a stream at Yugi’s knight, blowing out of existence, and causing Yugi to cringe from the blast.
Yugi: 1600 - 700 = 900
“Ha! Dark Knight Gaia was pulverized!” Kaiba said triumphantly. He continued to say, “I’ll use any method to get what I want. You can’t win.”
Over the next couple of turns, Yugi was barely able to hold off the devastating power of the Blue Eyes.
“Do you plan to keep using Defense Mode until you run out of cards?” Kaiba said. He then held up a very familiar card. “I drew a second Blue Eyes.” The second identical Dragon appeared next to its fellow. “How about you obediently give in and accept your loss, Yugi?!”
Yugi just glared across at Kaiba. It really didn’t look good for him. But still, his resolve wasn't broken yet. “Grandpa! I won’t give up!” He stated firmly. He then drew his next card. “A Magic Card! Sealing Swords Of Light!” Swords of bright light rained down on the field, forming a wall in front of the two dragons. “It seals the attacks of all Monsters on your side of the field for three turns!”
“What a pointless action!” Kaiba said. “Even if you prolong this by another three turns, what can you possibly do?”
“Looks like Yugi brought himself some time,” Sunset said with relief.
“Yeah, now he can figure out a way to turn this around,” Jounouchi said.
“Against two Blue Eyes White Dragons, how can he?” Said Cheshire. “But it is a bit odd.”
“What do you mean?” Asked Sunset.
“Kaiba went to a lot of trouble to get Grandpa’s card only to try and tear it up, and yet he already had two of the other cards. Why would he do that?” Cheshire replied.
“Yeah, you have a point,” Sunset agreed.
“What the hell is going through Kaiba’s head?” Asked Jounouchi.
“It’s your turn!” Kaiba called. “Hurry and draw your card!”
“I’m drawing now!” Yugi called back, as he drew his next card. He seemed surprised by what he had drawn, before playing his next monster and ending his turn.
“It’ll be the same no matter what card you play,” Said Kiaba. “I play a new monster and use it to attack your Defense Mode monster! He summoned his new monster, a tall, bulky man with a grey beard, tusks poking out his mouth, wearing bulky red armor, a long purple cape, and wielding twin maces. “Judge Man, with 2200 Attack Points!” The monster swung his mace, wiping out Yugi’s monster.
Yugi drew his next card, before playing it.“I’ll attack Judge Man with Dark Magician!” A tall man with purple hair, wearing purple armor and spell casters robes appeared. He carried a long green spell casters staff in his right hand.
Dark Magician: ATK: 2500
Judge Man: ATK: 2200
“Dark Magic Attack!” The man raised his hand and unleashed a spell, beating Judge Man. “Judge Man is beaten!”
Kaiba: 1300 - 300 = 1000
Kaiba chuckled smugly, “I’m hardly concerned about that level of damage.” He drew his next card before saying, “Just one turn remaining until the seal is broken,” He narrowed his eyes. “The card I just drew is the third Blue Eyes White Dragon!” Yugi recoiled in shock.
The third dragon appeared, snarling loudly. “Attack the Dark Magician!” The dragon unleashed its attack, annihilating the Dark Magician in a burst of blue-white light.
Yugi: 900 - 500 = 400
“Go on, Yugi. Draw your final card.” Kaiba said, smirking. “Because next turn, I'll attack you with all three Blue Eyes! No matter what card you play, you’re finished!”
“Hey! Yugi!” Jounouchi shouted.
“Now that Kaiba has summoned all three of his Blue Eyes, if he summons the fourth one, he’ll be unstoppable!” Sunset said with fear and worry.
“No, he can’t play the fourth one,” Cheshire said.
“Huh? Why not?” Sunset asked.
“Because a Duelist can only have three copies of a certain card in his deck at any one time. Kaiba already had three Blue Eyes White Dragons, so Grandpa’s card was useless to him. He only wanted it so it couldn't be used against him. It's the oldest trick in the book. If he can’t have it, no one will.”
“That is so low!” Sunset said angrily.
They all looked up at Yugi as he hesitated to draw his next card, when suddenly, he smiled. “Thanks guys! I’m no longer afraid!” He said.
“Who’s he talking to?” Sunset thought with a raised eyebrow.
“Hah,” Kaiba laughed, “Finally came to your senses and reached out your hand in despair?”
“Not quite!” Yugi said back with a triumphant smile. “I was just grabbing onto some hope!” He drew his final card. “The card I just drew is,” He held up the card for all to see, “Exodia The Sealed One!”
“Wha-?! What?!” Kaiba exclaimed in horror,
“I just gathered all five cards this very moment!” Yugi went on as he laid five cards from his hand out in front of him,A large star symbol appeared in front of him, before a brown muscular arm emerged, followed by another, and then the rest of the torso pushed its way out. It’s appearance was very ancient egyptian inspired, with a large ankh on its chest, and a figure like the head of a cobra above its face. It also had shackles and chains on each of the arms and legs.
“Impossible!” Kaiba yelped as he recoiled in fear, “Exodia, you said?! Did you just create a miracle?!”
Yugi then called the final attack. “Light of Hellfire! EXODO FLAME!!!”
Exodia formed a ball of bright orange light in its hands, before thrusting its hand forwards, unleashing all its power in one massive attack, lighting up the entire field like the sun, as all three dragons were instantly destroyed, and Kaiba let out a final yell of defeat.
Kaiba: 900 - 900 = 0
“He did it! It’s Yugi’s win!” Jounouchi cheered.
“He won?” Sunset asked. “How? What was that monster? It was huge!”
“That was the most powerful monster in Duel Monsters,” Explained Cheshire. “A monster called Exodia The Sealed One. It’s made up of 5 separate monster cards which represents the four limbs and head of Exodia, a monster so powerful, he was sealed away and split into five separate pieces. Each card on it’s own is incredibly weak, but when, and only when, the five pieces are gathered together, the seal is broken, and Exodia becomes whole again, unleashing his true power. In Duel Monsters, a Duelist holding all five pieces of Exodia in their hand automatically wins the Duel, regardless of the situation at that moment,” Cheshire explained.
“No matter how strong a card is, it’s useless if you can’t connect your heart with that card. When you connect your heart with the cards, miracles happen!” Yugi stated proudly.
“I-Impossible!” Kaiba sputtered in denial. “How could I Lose?!”
“Kaiba, I’ll shatter the evil of your head!” Yugi said firmly, as a glowing golden eye symbol appeared on his forehead! Yugi reached out his hand and shouted, “Mind Crush!!” Kaiba then collapsed to his knees as his reality was shattered. “I just smashed the evil within your head, Kaiba!” He then jumped down from the platform and made his way over to Kaiba’s side to retrieve his Grandpa’s card. Kaiba didn’t react, he just turned and walked away. Yugi then went to meet up with Sunset and the others.
“Is he going to be okay?” Asked Sunset.
“He’ll be fine, Kaiba is just dealing with his loss,” Yugi explained.
“Well, now that that's over with, come on Yugi, you’re Grandpa’s waiting,” Said Jounouchi.
Yugi, Sunset, Jounouchi and Cheshire leave the Kaiba building and make their way to the hospital. Once they get there, everyone waits outside of the room, while Yugi goes in to see his Grandpa.
“Yugi…” he said in the hospital bed, tired but proud of his grandson
“Grandpa, I won,” Yugi said with a warm, happy smile, “I got back your treasure.” Yugi then presented the Blue Eyes White Dragon, still very much intact.
Grandpa smiled as he shed tears of joy at the sight of his treasure from his oldest and closest friend.
Outside the room, Anzu let out a yawn. “Come on guys, let’s go,” She said.
“Yeah, it’s past visiting hours,” Said Honda.
“Yeah, I guess it is getting late,” Agreed Jounouchi.
“Besides, I think we should leave the two of them alone,” Sunset said.
Everyone then heads out, leaving Yugi alone with his Grandpa.
Outside the hospital, everyone went their separate ways, with Sunset heading home to her and her aunt's apartment, going over the day's events in her mind. When she returned to the apartment, Luna was not happy with her for getting home so late.
“And what kind of hour do you call this on a school night, young lady?” Luna said sternly as Sunset came in.
“You won’t believe what happened,” Sunset replied with a tired sigh.
“Well, still, I want an explanation,” Luna replied warningly.
Sunset sighed. “You know that older boy from school, Seto Kaiba?”
“Yes, I know him,” Said Luna. “What about him?”
“He kidnapped the Grandfather of another boy at school, Yugi Muto,” Sunset explained.
Luna frowned. “You are right, I do not believe you.”
“Well, regardless of whether you believe me or not, Yugi’s grandpa is in the hospital right now,” Sunset said.
Luna just stared at her for a moment, before sighing. “All right, look, It’s late,” She said, “Now, you just get right off to bed. You have school tomorrow.”
Sunset didn’t argue. She just headed to her room, and got ready for bed.
While she was lying in bed, Sunset couldn’t stop thinking about the Duel between Yugi and Kaiba. That match had lit a flame in her, a passion to learn more about and to give the game a try.
“I think I’m going to like it here,” She said with a warm smile. She then turned over, and closed her eyes, letting out a cute little yawn, as she drifted off to sleep.
Meanwhile, Cheshire was in his apartment, when his cell phone began to ring. He pulled it out of his pocket to answer it. “Hello?”
“Ah, Cheshire Boy,” Said a man’s voice. “So, tell me? How did your little game go with Kaiba Boy? Do not spare any details?”
“He cancelled on me,” Cheshire said.
“Cancelled, you say?” The man asked. “Now, why would Kaiba Boy ever do such a thing? That is simply not like him.”
“Simply put, he found the fourth Blue Eyes White Dragon, which was in the possession of an old man. He kidnapped the man and forced him into a Duel to win it from him. But then his grandson showed up to win the card back, and save his house after Kaiba said he would win it if the boy lost, and the boy actually beat Kaiba using the almighty Exodia,” Cheshire explained.
“Exodia,” Said the man. “My my, that is an achievement. And using it to defeat the current champion, no less. Most impressive.”
“But there’s more to it than that,” Cheshire went on, “The boy’s name is Yugi Muto, and he possesses the Millennium Puzzle you've been looking for.”
“Ohh,” Said the man with a hint of mirth in his voice.
“And there’s something else as well,” Cheshire then said, “There’s a new student at the school, a transfer student from America. Her name is Sunset Shimmer, and she also possesses an Item, the Millennium Bracelet.”
“Ohh!” The man said with a pleased tone, “That is good news. Unfortunately, will she have to resort to Plan B in order to gain possession of Kaiba Corp. But thanks to this little bit of misfortune, I now know where two of the remaining six Millennium Items are. I shall have to do some organising. As for you, Cheshire Boy, in the meantime, you just carry on with your studies as if nothing has happened. Well, it is late, so without further ado, I shall bid you goodnight.”
“I Understand. Goodnight,” Cheshire replied before hanging up. He then walks over to his bed and slumps down upon it, burying his head in his pillow, letting out a tired groan.
On a dresser next to his bed, was a small golden locket, on a golden chain, which lay open. Inside the locket was a picture of a man and a woman.
