Rising of the Tower
The rook. A piece once known by feudal ponies as the tower or the rector, this was one of the most powerful pieces on any standard chess board. Second to the queen, the rook’s versatility and range made it a kingpin in any defensive strategy and a heavy hitter in many an offense. The rook symbolized the fortress with which royalty shielded themselves from horrendous onslaughts. The rook was a spire representing strategy, power and authority. As the old were knocked down, the new would rise to the occasion.
The Tower. Not only was this the former name of the rook, but it was the sixteenth major arcana in a standard tarot deck. Some considered it the seventeenth, depending on whether they considered the Fool to be the zeroth arcana or the first. Upright, the Tower represented the proverbial pride before the fall. Regardless of the position, the Tower was an omen about the height of hubris and the long fall from the top. It also symbolized ambition, innovation, and the destruction of the old and flawed setting the foundation for newer and better.
How was it that Cozy Glow became a power-hungry super villain? Why did she manipulate other ponies the way she did? The answers rest in her past and her psyche.
