A Mare and Her Dragon: Celestial

A Call

Previous Chapter

Celestial slumped on her bed with an annoyed sigh. "I swear that if one more pony comes to me with their problems. I'm going to scream. What do ponies want me to do? I am a Dragon Knight, not a princess!"

Lavender giggled as she sat down on her own bed. "Long day?"

Celestial shot her a glare that could've melted steel. "Everypony in town knows I am a Knight now. So now they think they can come to me with their problems. Do I look like I can do anything to help them? Setting Nimbus on them is overkill if there was any. Even though I think she would like to."

Lavender rolled her eyes. "Can't you talk to her? She seems nice. But I do not know many dragons, so maybe they're all nice?"

Celestial rolled her eyes. "I can, but Nimbus can't do much to help me for something like this. I have to figure it out on my own I guess. And she is nice. Once I stopped panicking she had jumped off a cliff with me on her, I have never felt safer. Who is dumb enough to attack a full-grown dragon? One that has a Knight with them? I can't think of anypony."

Lavender giggled. "So where is she? You have been gone a week. I thought you weren't going back out after coming back from your first flight? Is that not what you told me? What changed?"

Celestial nodded. "I was helping Nimbus find a new lair. There are some caves north of the city. I was helping her pick one out. I think we found one that works. Sleeping with a dragon is not as weird as it sounds it turns out. Who knew?"

Lavender giggled. "And your life here? Doubt anypony can tell you what to do now. I sure as hay ain't gonna try. I know better than that."

Celestial sighed. "I talked to Key Note. He says that whatever I do from here on, he's behind me all the way. Honestly, I want to travel, see Equestria. Meet the other Dragon Knights if I can. The Crystal Empire is not too far away. Maybe I can visit Crystal. Or maybe even Ponyville and meet Princess Twilight."

Lavender smirked as she scooted a newspaper over to the unicorn. "Well, you are in luck then. Princess Twilight is not the only Knight in Ponyville at the moment."

Celestia blinked as she picked the paper up in her magic, and blinked in surprise at the headlines.

'Unexpected Return in Ponyville.

In a twist nopony seems to have seen coming, Princess Twilight Sparkle is no longer the only Dragon Knight in Ponyville. Amber Blister, the First Knight herself, recently appeared in the small town as well. While nopony will say what was said, she and Princess Twilight soon departed the small town, before returning one week later together.

The filly had not been seen in Equestria for over five centuries, many coming to think that she was nothing but a myth. Why she and her dragon returned now is still a mystery. Both refused to speak to this paper, Blister threatening to eat this reporter if he did not leave them alone.

Princess Twilight also did not say why only saying that Amber had returned when she had been needed the most. What passed between the two of them can only be guessed at.'

The rest of the article was only speculation at what this could all mean. Celestial could only give her friend a confused look. "Why would she come back? I did not even think Amber was still alive. And this is from yesterday."

Lavender shrugged. "Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe she'd tell you? Being a fellow Knight and all. As far as I know, she is staying in Ponyville with Princess Twilight, and her dragon is staying with the princess's dragon. Wherever that is."

Celestial tapped her chin. It was true. Maybe Amber would tell her if she asked. But it was a long trip to Ponyville, and she had just gotten back. She had been hoping for at least a night's sleep before doing anything else. Even though she did not really feel like she needed one anymore. Odd.

Before she could think of anything else though, Celestial's Knight Mark blazed with power, not unlike the first time she had merged with Nimbus. Unlike that time, however as she turned her hoof over, there was no pain or itch. Her mark was pulsating, almost as if something was calling to her.

Lavender gave it a look. "Is it supposed to do that?"

Celestial gave her a look. "Why are you asking me?" She shook her head. "I have no idea why it is doing that. But it feels like something is calling me. And I can't ignore it. Whatever that means."

Lavender smirked. "Is it from down south?"

Celestial rolled her eyes as she stood up and headed for the door. "Very funny. I hate to run like this, Lavender, but this is driving me nuts. I do not know what this means. But I have to answer it."

The Pegasus waved her off. "Oh go on. It is not like anypony could stop you anyway. Just don't do anything I wouldn't do, you hear?"

Celestia chuckled as closed the door behind her and closed her eyes and silently called out. "NImbus? Can you hear me?"

A few seconds passed before there was an answer from the dragon. "I can hear you, Celestial. What's wrong? I have got a sudden urge to go somewhere, and I have no idea why."

"That makes two of us. Where are you? We need to get out of here. I can't take this much longer."

"Just outside the city limits. I can be there in a few minutes."

"I will be at the front door. Try not to cause a scene this time?"

Nimbus giggled. "Oh come on. I was not that bad. You ponies are such wimps."

Celestial giggled as she headed for the main door.

Nimbus was waiting for her as exited the hotel. The grin on her face helped put Celestial at ease a little.

Celestial rolled her eyes as she walked up to her. "I hate doing this. But something tells me this is too important to miss. And I would rather not take the train if it is all the same to you."

Nimbus giggled as well as she stretched her wings. "Who needs a train when you have got me? Plus I am so much faster and safer than those things will ever be."

Celestial rolled her eyes before closing them and willing herself to merge with Nimbus. Turning into energy, she melded herself into the dragon's forehead, holding back a moan at how great it felt. Nimbus took to the sky as soon as Celestial's head had formed on her own. "So where are we going?" She asked as they cleared the city skyline.

Celestial turned their whole body south. "To Ponyville."

Author's Note

Time for a little event. This will all lead to something that will come after Amber's story is finished. I just won't say what that might be though. Next is an extension to Crystal's story before they all converge with Twilight and Amber in Ponyville. And I do need to thank Flora Blossom for her review for the My Little Reviews & Feedback group.
