Stories of Spike
Just what was Spike doing that night?
Previous ChapterSpike grinned as the vampire glared at him. His slitted eyes shifted as Dusk ran at him. Spike watched Dusk's eyes right before he vanished.
From the left Spike spun and caught Dusk by the wrist, grinning as the vampire stared in shock.
"That's fuckin' impossible..." Dusk gasped.
"Prove it." Spike taunted, squeezing his wrist. The vampire cried out in pain as he dropped the dagger, kicking out to knock Spike away. But he was ready for the attack, shifting his weight to the side, the kick harmlessly kicking up his cloak and momentarily revealing his armor. Dusk's eyes went wide as he spotted the sunburst crest on the armor. Spike hooked his arm around the leg, his arm shifting as he roared, snapping the knee between his arm and rib.
Dusk roared, Spike chuckling and stepping forward, chucking the vampire into a nearby tree. Dusk panted heavily, leaning against the tree and his good leg.
"The fuck is a Knight doin' out here?" Dusk demanded. Spike shrugged, picking up the dagger.
"I'm just out for a walk really." Spike paused, glancing over, seeing a massive light and vampires running for their lives.
So he did it after all...guess that means I've got work to do. He sighed, stepping back in time for Dusk's punch to miss, the vampire crying out as he put too much weight on his leg to catch himself, only managing to fall to the unforgiving ground below. Spike rolled his shoulders, hopping forward and smashing his foot across the vampires face.
"Going, going, gone! And its good! The crowd goes wild!" Spike cheered to himself. Nothing wrong with having some fun on the job after all. He sighed, hefting Dusk up by his jacket, chucking him next to Vinyl.
"Need a hand?" he asked, seeing her panic over Octavia. He felt his ear twitch, eyes wide as a gunshot rang out. He twisted, throwing up his claw in time to snatch the bullet out of its path.
Can't be careless like that Spike. You almost screwed up big time buddy...better make sure it doesn't happen again. he scolded himself. He shot Vinyl a small smile.
"Excuse me a moment." he said softly, calling to his magic with a snap of his fingers and teleporting to the bell tower the shooter was hiding in.
"Mind telling me what that was about?" Spike asked from the shadows. The woman spun, aiming her rifle at him and firing off a round. Spike grit his teeth as he slid out of its path, another round quickly following after.
The woman abandoned the rifle after two failed shots, still in a sitting position as she drew her pistols. Spike saw his chance, flickering out of view for a split second before appearing before her, kicking one pistol out of her hand, the other planted firmly against his other leg.
The woman grinned as she pulled the trigger, Spike bent his knees, dropping slightly, the bullet passing through the back of his pants and just barely clipping his leg.
Thank Celestia for baggy pants... he breathed a sigh of relief, smacking the pistol out of her hand and pinning her to the ground. He opened his mouth to speak, wincing as she spat in his eye.
"GAH!" he cried out as the poison sank in, stumbling backwards. The woman rolled to her feet, drawing a large boot knife. Spike held his palms against his eyes, feeding his magic into the thin membranes there, trying to wash away the biting poison.
The woman took advantage of his stumbling, remaining silent and sneaking behind him. Spike's ear twitched as he heard her boot scuff against the ground, gritting his teeth as his tail formed, sweeping her legs and landing heavily on her stomach once she hit the ground.
He quickly shifted back to normal, taking a few stumbling steps away from her as he finally worked the poison out of his eyes, keeping the membranes over his slitted eyes in case she had anything else up her sleeve.
The woman coughed as she rolled, pushing to her feet and panting slightly. She spun the boot knife, glaring at him.
"All I asked for was an explanation lady." Spike sighed. The woman refused to speak, seemingly waiting on him to make the next move. He shrugged, tucking a hand against his sword as he rushed her. The woman slashed with the knife, Spike drawing his sword to parry it away.
Geez, she aimed straight for my throat...Must be one of those Hunters I was warned about...Good thing she's equipped for Vampire Hunting instead of Dragon slaying he chuckled to himself. The woman snarled smashing her fist across his face, crying out as she hit scales and stumbled backwards, clutching her hand.
Spike bum rushed her, grabbing her arm and slipping around her, putting pressure on her bruised hand. The woman cried out, stomping her foot and revealing a blade in the heel of her boot.
Spike stomped on the blade as she tried to stab him, pushing her arm hard against her back and forcing her to bend over to avoid breaking her arm.
"Geez, do you try an shoot everyone who helps you?"
"Only the freaks" she spat, crying out and dropping the wire she had been tugging out of her sleeve as Spike gave her arm a shove.
"Lets talk someone more public." Spike snapped his fingers, the two appearing before Vinyl. The vampire was cradling Octavia and holding her close.
"I guess she's an idiot too." Vinyl chuckled.
"Think what you want freak." the woman spat. Spike grit his teeth, giving her arm a slight shove. Vinyl gulped visibly as she looked at him. Spike glanced around quickly, listening for any movement. Once satisfied that they were alone he turned his attention back to Vinyl and Octavia, pointing his clawed hand at Octavia.
"How is she?" he asked. Vinyl's eyes widened for a moment, Spike realizing too late that his claws were showing.
"I'm fine, thanks to Vinyl." Octavia answered quietly. Vinyl seemed to snap out of her daze at this point.
"Good. I was hoping I was right about you." Spike smiled.
"You're being tricked boy. AHH!" the woman cried out as Spike shoved her arm a bit further. He was getting really tired of her bullshit.
"You tried to take my head off a minute ago. I'd rather you be quiet for a while." he said as calmly as he could, glancing down at Vinyl and Octavia.
"Vanessa Filigree. I'm putting my trust in you, as well as the care of Miss Octavia. I can't openly assist you yet, but you have my support in this fight. Just so long as you keep her safe." Spike promised. Vinyl however didn't seem as trusting as he hoped.
"What do you get outta this beast boy?" she growled.
Shit, so much for hiding he let out a soft chuckle, keeping calm.
"You figured it out huh? Well, its my job to keep this city safe. Big Boss isn't just an enemy to vampires like you. He's also a crime boss. The Guard aren't equipped to handle him. The sooner we take him down, the sooner everyone can go back to their lives." Spike explained
And the sooner I can go back to just being a little dragon...
"Oh wonderful, beasts and vampires working hand in hand." The woman grumbled. Spike sighed as he shoved her forward. It was time to shut her up. The woman spun, pistols slipping out of her sleeves and into her hands.
Sweet Celestia, how many guns is she packing? Spike wondered, grunting as bullets pelted his armor, making him stumble backwards. He sighed, making a big show of dusting himself off before yanking the slugs out of his chest-plate. He wore a smirk as he watched the woman's shocked expression.
"Care to waste anymore ammo?" he asked.
"What the hell are you?" she demanded, shaking slightly.
"Luckily for you, I'm a friend." he said, snapping his claws, teleporting himself, the woman and the vampire Dusk into a nearby van that was waiting on him.
"Hi there." Firefly grinned, smashing a pistol across the woman's face and knocking her out cold.
"Really?" Spike asked. Firefly shrugged, cuffing the woman and digging through her pockets.
"Wow, she has quite a few goodies on her...and an ID. Rookie mistake for a seasoned Hunter. Cheerilee Sunlily. Awfully sweet name for a lady who tried to kill you." Firefly mumbled.
"Hows the field suit?" she asked, patting his back. He chuckled as he sat down.
"Almost as tough as my scales, and light as a feather. I'm impressed."
"Well thank you sir." Firefly bowed jokingly. "So, whats with the other guy?" she asked, poking at Dusk. Spike shook his head.
"Vampire, one of Big Boss' goons we've been keeping an eye on. He claims he's the one that took out Valiant Filigree." he answered, leaning over the front seat and tapping his drivers shoulder.
"Take us home Twilight, we got work to do."
"Sure thing boss." Twilight Velvet smiled, adjusting her cap. Spike sat back down, laying his head back against the cool metal of the van.
"You okay buddy?" Firefly raised an eyebrow as the dragon glanced at her.
"Yea, why?"
"You're doing the eye thing again." Firefly pointed out. Spike blinked, the thin membranes over his eyes retracting.
"She uh, spit some kind of poison in my eyes during the fighting." Spike explained. Firefly whistled, glancing down at Cheerilee.
"You tellin' me she had you? Man, must be tough." she chuckled.
"She's quick too. Might run her through the Gauntlet." Spike mused.
"Didn't realize we were doing recruiting." Firefly sighed as she sat back.
"Is that what you told Spitfire?" Spike asked quietly. Firefly bit her lip.
"I'm getting old Spike. My trigger finger is slow, my joints don't work as well as they use to. I'm not the spring chicken I used to be." she lowered her head.
"Do you want this life for her Fly?" Twilight asked softly.
"Not in the slightest...but she has the skill for it. I don't have much of a choice and...she could use the pay..." Firefly mumbled.
"That's right, didn't she adopt some girl?" Twilight asked.
"Yea...Rainbow Dash. She doesn't stop talking about her. She really cares about that kid. Apparently she's fast enough to beat Soarin in a race."
"Really? Maybe Soarin's getting old too?" Spike chuckled.
"ugh...where am I?" Cheerilee mumbled, gasping as Firefly rested her foot on her back.
"Welcome back sweetheart. Hows the headache?" Firefly asked. Cheerilee thrashed about, trying to get free.
"Keep it up and you'll break something. Besides, we don't wanna wake the vampire now do we?" Firefly pointed to Dusk, who was still out cold.
"Before you ask, no, we aren't vampires. Technically, we're Hunters. Difference is, we hunt every type of monster, human or otherwise" Firefly interrupted the possible insult hanging on the Hunters tongue. Cheerilee rolled her wrists in the cuffs that held her.
"What about him? What IS he?" she nodded her head at Spike.
"He's a rather...special case. And my boss." Firefly sat back, Spike remaining silent.
"What are you going to do with me?"
"Well, you spit in my bosses face. Normally I'd break your face for that. But no one ever really gets the chance to one-up the guy, so instead we're gonna put you to the test and see what your worth." Firefly explained.
"That's enough Fly." Spike spoke up, the Skyborn falling silent. Spike breathed out slowly, smoke billowing around his face.
"How long until we arrive?"
"Just around the corner, Sir" Twilight answered.
"Good. I'll take Dusk, you take her. I'd rather not deal with her arsenal again. I just got lucky that she was equipped for vampires." Spike sighed. The van lurched to a stop, Spike hefting the vampire over his shoulder as he hopped out the back. Firefly pulled Cheerilee to her feet, resting a pistol against her neck.
"Don't try anything funny. I've been where you are and I promise you, you don't get outta this." she warned. Cheerilee seemed to accept that. Adding on the fact that all of her weapons had been removed, she didn't have much room for argument.
Spike cast one last glance over his shoulder, sure that Firefly and Twilight could handle the woman as he made his way into the bunker. He dropped Dusk into a chair, several candles flickering into life.
A large sigil on the floor began to glow, filling the room with a bright red light before fading away. Spike did a quick double check of the room and once satisfied he turned back to Dusk.
"You can stop faking now." Spike spoke up. Dusk chuckled, shaking his head.
"You, are a real piece of work. You're some kinda head honcho with these Hunter freaks o' yours. They ain't gonna cut it." Dusk spat.
"I handled you solo. I'm sure my team could take on a few of you." Spike boasted. It was more of a bluff than anything else.
Sure, Twilight was quite the powerful Magian, but if his sources were right, Big Boss had plenty of Anti-Magian gear.
Firefly was his Military expert and rather skilled in many different types of weaponry, which could come in handy, but she had made a valid point.
As much as Spike hated to admit it, his Skyborn friend was getting old. He didn't like the idea of trading her in for a newer fresher model, but it was her decision and he'd be happy to see her escape the fate of many of the Knights.
"Please, two old ladies and some Dragon fucker? That's all you've got? Big Boss is gonna make mince meat outta your scaly ass." Dusk laughed.
"Well, if he's that strong, you might as well tell me where he is. Unless he's too chicken shit to show his face." Spike spat. Dusk grit his teeth, crying out as the sigil activated under him, red sparks dancing across his body.
Spike waited until the magic faded, a bit of smoke rising from Dusk as he panted and gripped the chair.
"Well?" Spike asked, raising an eyebrow. Dusk's only answer was to spit on his shoes. The dragon shrugged as he turned away.
"Alright then, enjoy your stay in hell. I tried doin' this the nice way." Spike sighed, stepping outside of the room and slamming the door shut.
"All yours Twilight." Spike murmured, the Magian heading into the room.
The screams of a regretful vampire followed him as he walked down the hall.
