The Second Nightmare Night
Spike was on the first floor of the library, walking in circles, waiting for Twilight, who was putting the costume on in the room. He wore the same costume as last year: a purple dragon. He stopped walking in circles and looked at the top of the stairs.
“Twilight! Have you finished dressing up your costume yet?” asked Spike.
“I’m almost done, Spike!” said Twilight in a loud tone so that Spike could hear her from the third floor.
“Twilight, the moon has been in the sky in an hour ago, in a little while, the foals will come here to ask for sweets.” Spike remembered Twilight.
“I know, Spike,” said Twilight.
Spike then heard footsteps coming from the third and then the second floor. He saw Twilight already in her costume, and to his surprise, the purple unicorn wore the costume of Starswirl, the Bearded.
“Are you going to wear the same costume as last year?” asked Spike.
“Yes, I will,” Twilight replied.
“Do you intend to try a second time that your fantasy is recognized?” Spike wanted to know.
“No, Spike.” Twilight shook her head. “I am dressed in this costume because I only have this one, but also because it is my favorite.”
“So, this year you intend to be in this costume just to have fun on the holiday?” asked Spike to be sure.
“That’s right, Spike.” Twilight nodded as she smiled.
Suddenly, they heard a knock on the door. Twilight, already knowing it could be foals, and even Pinkie asking for sweets, she picked up the pale blue bowl of sweets from the table and opened the door with her magic, Spike followed. But when she opened it, she noticed that it was not foals or even Pinkie who knocked on the door to ask for sweets, but it was Nightmare Moon, who smirked wickedly and held an empty purple bag.
“Give me something sweet to bite, Twilight Sparkle, or else ... I’m going to eat you right here and now!” said Nightmare Moon.
Twilight did not imagine that Nightmare Moon was the one who had knocked on the door, but she took a candy from the bowl and placed it in the purple bag, at Nightmare Moon’s request.
“Wise choice. You are free to be my meal this year.”
Twilight didn’t have to think twice to know that it was Luna only in the form of Nightmare Moon. “I liked your costume, princess,” she said with a smile.
“Thank you, Twilight, and I see that you’re wearing the same costume as last year,” said Nightmare Moon.
“That’s right, princess. How many houses have you been to ask for sweets?”
“Actually, your home was the first one I went to ask for sweets.” Nightmare Moon confessed. “I had arrived in Ponyville a few minutes ago.”
“How did you come here? Was it a carriage like last year or was it flying?” asked Twilight curiously.
“I came to Ponyville flying, I wanted to give a touch that Nightmare Moon had really returned,” Nightmare Moon replied. “Because, between us, Nightmare Moon wouldn’t ride a carriage to Ponyville to warn her subjects of her return.”
Twilight laughed lightly at Luna’s last sentence. “I think so too, Princess.”
“Please, just call me Luna. You are my only friend and you were the only one who helped me at last night’s Nightmare Night, you don’t have to be formal with me.” Nightmare Moon asked calmly while smiling.
“Okay, Luna,” said Twilight. She and Spike soon left the library, but first, she closed the door with her magic.
The two mares watched Spike run happily with a light green bag, obviously, to ask for trick or treating. As soon as the dragon left their sight, they looked at each other so they could talk.
“So, Luna, how have you been?” asked Twilight with a friendly smile.
“We ... I mean, I’ve been doing well, Twilight Sparkle,” Nightmare Moon replied. “How about you?”
“Me too,” the purple unicorn replied. “What would you like to do?”
“I would like to continue asking for sweets,” Nightmare Moon replied. “Do you have your bag for put your candies?”
Twilight soon teleported a purple bag. “Yes, Luna.”
They then arrived at a house, Twilight decided to knock on the door. They heard the sound of footsteps until the door opened revealing a brown stallion dressed as a pirate, he immediately trembled when he saw Nightmare Moon smiling wickedly while holding a bag.
“Give us something sweet to bite, subject, or else, you will be eaten by me!” said Nightmare Moon.
The pony, shaking all over, quickly entered the house and placed a candy in each of the bags of the two mares. Nightmare Moon immediately laughed.
“Wise choice, subject. You are free to be my meal this year,” she said.
The brown stallion was relieved and soon closed the door. The two turned and went to the next house. After a few hours of asking for candy, their bags were full of candy, and Nightmare Moon started eating all the candy she received while Twilight looked at her with a smile that Luna was having fun in this Nightmare Night of the year.
Upon arriving where most of the ponies were celebrating the holiday, Nightmare Moon had already finished eating her sweets, and Twilight hasn’t even touched the sweets yet, she intended to eat them later. They noticed that the ponies were looking at them, but their eyes were glued to Nightmare Moon which, seeing the black alicorn approaching, they quickly bent to the ground with fear present on their faces.
“Oh no! It’s Nightmare Moon! She will eat us! Run away everypony!” shouted Pinkie before running away. The foals screamed before following Pinkie.
Nightmare Moon wasn’t bothered as before because Pinkie said that and not even because the ponies were scared of her, because like Twilight told her after finding out why everypony was scared of her: Pinkie is just pretending to be scared because of the holiday, and as Pipsqueak told her, being scared is fun, scary, but fun. Speaking of the colt, she cannot deny that she missed the foal that considered his favorite princess. Where would he be now?
“Princess Luna!”
She looked where she saw the voice and saw Pipsqueak in pirate costume approaching her with a cheerful smile. The colt hugged the princess’ front hooves.
“I missed you, Princess Luna,” he said.
Nightmare Moon couldn’t stop smiling at Pipsqueak’s words and meeting the colt again, she stroked lovingly his mane. “Me too, Pipsqueak.”
Pipsqueak stopped hugging Nightmare Moon and looked at her, he soon noticed that Luna was in costume too. “Cool fantasy, Princess.”
“You’re welcome, Pipsqueak. Yours too,” said Nightmare Moon. “Would you like to go with me and Twilight to the apple game?”
“Sorry, Princess, but I can’t now, I’m going to go ask for candy along with Pinkie and the other foals,” said Pipsqueak sadly and with his ears down.
Nightmare Moon’s smile fell with the answer, but she quickly smiled because she knew why the foal wanted to do this. “I undestand it.”
“How nice. For a moment I thought I hurt the feelings of my favorite princess,” said Pipsqueak with a smile of relief. “Well, I’m going, or else I’m going to lose sight of them.”
The two mares watched Pipsqueak go before walking back to the apple game. Nightmare Moon loved having met the foal again.
They saw that there was a yellow stallion and light blue mane with Cutie Mark from a cake dressed as an astronaut approaching the game of apples. And seeing this, an idea came to Nightmare Moon’s mind, she closed her eyes and a turquoise magic enveloped her. Twilight was confused that Luna had teleported.
The pony closed his eyes and opened his mouth, prepared to plunge his head underwater and pick up an apple, but he soon opened his eyes when he noticed that the water started to bubble out. Suddenly, Nightmare Moon came out underwater with an evil smile with fangs exposed and bat wings spread.
“Boo!” shouted Nightmare Moon.
The pony ended up jumping back because of the fright him took, even Twilight was startled, but the three soon laughed. After that, Nightmare Moon came out of the water and Twilight approached them for they play the game together and the pony went back to where it was. The three stood next to each other looking for an apple, until they find it. The three plunged their heads into the water, picked up an apple and chewed the apple and swallowed. They were playing in the apple game for a few minutes until they decided to do something else. The stallion went to the right, while Twilight and Nightmare Moon went to the left.
Twilight looked at Luna and couldn’t help but smile. She couldn’t help but agree that Luna looked beautiful in Nightmare Moon costume. Perhaps, she could invite Luna to the Everfree Forest location where the Nightmare Moon statue was so that they could talk to themselves and even eat sweets after the end of Nightmare Night.
“Twilight!”
Twilight stopped looking at Luna when she heard a female voice, she looked where she heard the voice and saw Applejack in scarecrow costume, approaching her and Luna.
“Hi, Applejack. What are you doing to have fun at this year’s Nightmare Night?” asked Twilight.
“I am playing the games, helping and explaining to the ponies who started participating in Nightmare Night this year how each game works,” the orange mare replied, “and you, sugarcube?”
“Luna and I are spending this Nightmare Night together,” Twilight replied. “Did you notice that she even came up with a costume this year?”
Applejack looked at Luna to see what her fantasy was and noticed that Nightmare Moon was in place. “Fancy costume, Princess.”
“Thanks, Applejack.” Nightmare Moon thanked her with a smile as she blushed pink and looked to the right for the compliment. Twilight couldn’t help but find it cute that Luna blushed.
“You’re welcome Princess.” Applejack looked at the game of apples and saw that a yellow filly dress up as princess was about to fall into the water, she ran out quickly to save her.
Twilight and Nightmare Moon watched Applejack go over there and save the filly from falling into the water. “Ya have to be more careful, sugarcube.”
The two decided to walk again after seeing that rescue scene. Luna’s thoughts were in Twilight. She couldn’t stop thinking about last night’s Nightmare Night, but she was not thinking about the party itself, but the only mare that helped her when nobody wanted to, and this is the same mare that is with her and enjoying Nightmare Night at side of it. When Nightmare Night is over and she has to return to Canterlot, she wanted to give Twilight a gift for everything the unicorn did for her, and she even had in mind what it would be, but it would have to be in a place where there is no one besides her and Twilight. But where could it be? Who knows at the Everfree Forest site where the Nightmare Moon statue is located? No pony dares to enter the forest and not even that place with the statue after placed the candies near the statue. She was sure Twilight would love the gift!
“Your turn, Luna,” said Twilight.
Nightmare Moon left her thoughts and looked at Twilight confusedly. “What? My turn? But my turn to what?”
“From you trying to throw the spider in the web,” Twilight replied, now pointing to the right.
Nightmare Moon looked where Twilight’s hoof was pointing and saw that it was pointing at a basket of toy spiders. She caught a spider with her hoof, looked at the target that had a spider, tried to think how to throw the spider into the web and then launched the spider in the hope of being able to throw the spider into the web, and for her happiness, she did it!
“Huzzah! One point for me!” Nightmare Moon shouted happily, now with a raised front hoof.
“My turn.” Twilight levitated a spider from the basket, placed it on her hoof, looked closely at the web, calculated the launch of her spider and launched, but unfortunately, she was unable to throw the spider into the web. The purple mare didn’t seem happy that her calculation didn’t work, but she soon looked at Luna.
Nightmare Moon, already with the spider in the hoof launched straight, and she managed to launch the spider in the web again. She can’t help but celebrate. “Huzzah! The points have been doubled!” the other ponies celebrate with the Princess of the Night.
Twilight can’t help but smile at Luna’s joy. Honestly, she didn’t care that Luna had more points and that technically she would beat her, because this is just a game, and what matters to her in a game is having fun beside the mare she liked.
After five minutes in the game of throwing spiders, Nightmare Moon was declared the winner with twenty points, and the two mares went to a food stall.
“Two love apples, please.” Nightmare Moon asked.
The mare took two love apples and looked at Twilight and Nightmare Moon. “Are you two going to want it with or without chocolate?”
“With chocolate, of course,” Nightmare Moon replied.
“No chocolate, please,” Twilight replied.
The mare delivered the love apple without chocolate straight to Twilight and the other love apple, she dipped it in the chocolate and delivered Nightmare Moon. “It’s two bits, please.”
“I pay.” Twilight handed the mare two bits. The mare took the two bits and put them away.
They left the tent and started eating their love apples. It was difficult for Luna to bite and chew the love apple because she was using fake fangs, but despite this difficulty, she managed to eat the whole apple. When they finished eating the apples of love, they decided to play the game of throwing pumpkins at the target.
“Luna, would you like to go to the location of the Nightmare Moon statue after Nightmare Night is over?” Twilight looked to the left while blushing. “You know ... So we can talk and eat the sweets together.”
Nightmare Moon looked at Twilight with a smile. “I would love to, Twilight Sparkle.”
Twilight levitated a pumpkin with pink magic, placed it on the catapult, pulled it back and released it causing the pumpkin to be thrown into the air and hit in the middle of the target. Twilight was happy that she longed to make a point, and soon looked at Nightmare Moon.
“Your turn, Luna,” she said.
Nightmare Moon did the same as Twilight, and she also managed to make a point, and can’t help but smile at having fun. She watched Twilight pick up another pumpkin, place it on the catapult, pull it back and release it; the pumpkin was flying until it fell in the middle of the target. Twilight and Nightmare Moon hit the front hooves while smiling, they really made a beautiful pair when it came to playing together.
After a few hours, they saw Zecora leave with Pinkie and the foals. Nightmare Moon knew very well where Zecora, Pinkie and the foals would go, she and Twilight looked at each other.
“Luna, I think it’s better to follow them,” said Twilight.
“I think so, too, but you follow them, I’ll go ahead. I have an idea of a scare to give them,” Nightmare Moon said the last sentence with an evil smile.
As if reading Luna’s thoughts, Twilight asked, “Are you going to scare them with the same way you did last year?”
“Yes and no, you will see. Now, go to them,” Nightmare Moon replied, still smirking.
Twilight, at Luna’s request, ran off in hopes of catching up with the ponies and the zebra. She was curious to know what the scare Luna was planning to do would be like, It seems that just arriving at the statue site to find out. It wasn’t long before she could find them and they had arrived at the site of the Nightmare Moon statue.
“Now, put the candies under the statue, so that Nightmare Moon doesn’t return next year to devour us.” Zecora asked calmly.
Twilight, Pinkie and the foals went to the statue and put the candy there. When they finished, the foals and Pinkie approached Zecora, ready to leave the place, but suddenly, it started to blow, a loud voice started to speak and everypony looked around in concern, except Twilight who was smiling.
”Citizens of Ponyville, I thank you for bringing these sweets to me this year...”
The ponies looked at the Nightmare Moon statue and noticed that the statue was still there. They noticed that in the sky, a blue mist would approach them, land on the grass and start to spin. ”... So, I’m going to eat these sweets...” after the fog reached a high point, the fog expanded, revealing Nightmare Moon, who smiled wickedly with her fangs on display. ”... Instead of eating you!”
Everypony screamed and ran in fear when they saw Nightmare Moon, except Twilight that watched them run away. As soon as she no longer saw them in sight of her, she approached Nightmare Moon with a smile.
“Luna! That was awesome!” said Twilight.
“Thank you, Twilight.” Nightmare Moon thanked.
They walked over to the pile of sweets and sat on the grass to start eating. Twilight sat down first and waited for Luna to sit down, she looked at the black alicorn and noticed that a white glow covered Nightmare Moon while her size decreased until it disappeared and who was in place was no longer Nightmare Moon, but Princess Luna. The princess soon removed the fake fangs, put them away and sat on the left side. Twilight took a strawberry candy, while Luna took a caramel candy.
“What did you think of this year’s Nightmare Night?” asked Twilight, after eating the strawberry candy.
“I liked it, especially with you by my side,” the Princess of the Night replied. “And what about you?”
“Me too, Luna,” the purple mare replied as she took a colorful lollipop and bit it.
After a few hours, they finished eating the pile of candy. Honestly, Luna ate more than Twilight on account of loving and being more fond of sweets than Twilight. Luna could soon sense by her magic that she would have to return to Canterlot to lower the moon. It looks like she would have to say goodbye to Twilight now, which was a shame. She looked to the left and let out a slight sigh sadly.
“Luna? What happened? Why did you sigh?” asked Twilight, concerned about Luna.
Luna soon looked back at Twilight to answer. “Twilight, I’m going to have to go back to Canterlot now.”
“What? But already?” Twilight asked in a sad tone.
The dark blue alicorn slowly looked away sadly. “Sadly yes…”
Twilight’s sad face soon changed to one of understanding. “I understand. So ... It looks like this is a goodbye,” said Twilight, now rising from the grass.
“Yes, but before I go, I wanted to give you something. It’s a gift for everything you’ve done for me,” said Luna, also rising from the grass.
“Really? What is it?” asked Twilight, approaching Luna curiously.
“This.” Luna’s head moved closer to that of Twilight, and Luna’s lips touched that of Twilight, which resulted in taking Twilight by surprise and even blushing from the kiss. The kiss that the princess was giving in Twilight was very kind and loving. The unicorn soon relaxed, closed her eyes slowly and returned the kiss in the same way as Luna.
Upon leaving the kiss, the princess asked, “what did you think?”
“I ... I liked it...” Twilight replied smiling, still flushed from the kiss she received.
“Glad you like. Well I’m going, see you tonight, Twilight.” Luna spread her wings and flew across the starry sky. Twilight watched her fly with a smile.
As soon as Luna was no longer in sight of her, she started walking with the intention of leaving the site of the Nightmare Moon statue to return to the library for breakfast.
