Chapter 1: Derpy's First Day of School
Author's Note
This will be slow to wrap up so bear with me. I'm planning on writing this fic with Derpy growing up. There will be profanity and description of abusive acts. This is for 18+ readers. I'll drop subtle references to the fic "Redheart's War" at some point and I'll have canon characters dropped throughout the fic.
Chapter 1: Derpy's First Day of School
My first day school starts tomorrow! Screamed a light gray pegasus as she bounded into the kitchen almost knocking a vase off a small round table by the kitchen door way. Her mother turned around and gently scolded:
"Derpy dear, what have I said about running indoors?"
Derpy sheepishly shuffled her little hooves and stared at the wood floor and said, "You told me not to do so......sorry momma." Derpy's mother was a gentle creature, light gray like her daughter with a light blue mane and tail and her cutie mark was snow blown by the wind. Her parents named her 'Windigo' in remembrance that friendship and a warm heart can overcome the coldest of hearts. Derpy's father was a stern stallion, he was brown as sandstone, his mane was dark brown his cutie mark was a shovel and an Aspen tree; thus his name, Aspen. The family cleaned up and sat down to dinner.
Late that night as Derpy lay awake she listened to her parents talk in the kitchen below her room.
"Windi, I know that derpy needs glasses and eye surgery but we can't afford it. We both are working as hard as those Apples at Sweet Apple Acres........with bills piling up from your injury at the post office. I feel as if we failed our daughter. What the buck am I doing wrong ?"
"Aspen dear, times are rough now but we'll pull through this I know we will. Our little fillie knows you love her." As the conversation wore on Derpy began feeling like a burden.
Monday morning came and as Derpy joined her parents she asked, "Am I a burden?" Aspen and Windigo both looked at each other horriefied that she heard their conversation the night before.
"Derpy you're not a burden..........and you will never be one......ever!"
Chapter 1:
Little Derpy trotted into the schoolyard and saw many fillies and colts playing and just hanging out until the bell rang. She slowly made way across the yard to enter the school house when a pegasus colt bumped into her and yelled, "Out of the way loser!" Just that moment he froze in fear as Derpy stood back up.
"Waffle how many times do I have to repremend you for not paying attention to where your going? I swear to Celestia I'm going to have to talk to your parents about this your deliberate running classmates over will not be tolerated. Now March inside." Derpy dusted herself off and clumsily picked up her books.
Once in the school house Waffle glared and Derpy nervously walked past him to an open desk.
Miss Wormwood had the students introduced themselves. When lunch came around Derpy sat under tree away from the others waffle walked with a friend of his named Slick, the jet black colt sneered as the free close.
Waffle and Slick stood on both sides of Derpy Waffle flapped his wings to get slightly airborne and kicked Derpy over, Slick quickly pinned her down. Waffle stood over her raising a hoof and slammed it into her face.
Slick was an earth pony his family mined for oil so that meant he had muscle. He reared up and dropped his full weight onto Derpy's wing shattering the bone. Waffle simultaneously dislocated her back left leg.
The colts have Derpy a beating that left her laying still, not daring to move. Slick and Waffle trotted off and Derpy slowly and painfully dragged her battered body to the classroom to ask Ms. Wormwood for help. Derpy woke up not realizing she had passed out from pain and heard voices.
"Aspen, Windigo, I hate to tell you this but, even though Derpy will have full recovery her right eye will be legally blind and.........from the injuries surgery to get her right eye to be able to be 'normal' won't be of much use. We can have an optometrist give her corrective lenses but her right eye can't be corrected."
"Nurse Redheart you're telling my that there is nothing that can be done to save the vision in her right eye? You were one of Celestia's own in the war........I thought your battle cry was......."Celestia's own never quit". Then why the buck can't you do a damned thing for her?"
"Look Aspen, the X-rays show substantial damage to the optic nerves, I can't do a thing about it unless we cause more harm than good."
"Buck you!"
"If I could've saved what vision there was that surgery you talked about: cataract surgery had a high chance of success but that is highly reduced to almost nil."
Derpy felt a sudden sadness realizing she'll never be "normal". She never imagined that this marked that her grade school years would be a trial of pain.
Chapter 4: My parents Debt
My parents conversation from all those years ago came flooding back when I was going through their stuff in father's study; I found a contract saying that he had borrowed money from a pony in Las Pegasus. If the debt wasn't paid by set time the house and all that was in it was to be used to pay off the debt.
The pony was none other than Filthy Rich! The date that the debt was to be paid was........"Sweet Celestia"...........today!
I asked my parents where the bits were tht they saved to pay off the debt. The answer horrified me, it was paying the med bills for my father's newly discovered cancer.
As we sat trying to figure something out Filthy Rich showed up with police and an eviction notice. The grief was too much for my folks.........my father had lived in tht house since he was a colt; my parents had that house since they were married, buck I was born in that house
Filthy Rich also piled a massive compound interest in fine print that my parents didn't read.
Their grief killed em. With me having to fend for myself now young no fancy degree my job pool was small. I ended up in ponyville at the post office.
