Pretzel Surprise
Sideshow Salespony
Load Full StoryJimmy had really no idea what was going on, and indeed seemed to have lost the plot somewhat. What a lot of rhyming and alliteration. Anyways, his daily life was still incredibly boring, as anybody who knew him could testify. Endless TFs into every character under the sun had somehow lost its luster to him, as it had become commonplace and therefore dull. He had such a lack of interest in anything that was happening right now that it amazed him that anybody could find his life in any way interesting. Life for him was, indeed, dull, not helped along by all the people who seemed to be intent on being total idiots no matter where he went.
He had heard Tom was facing the risk of a further lockdown, thanks to people who were utterly stupid and deciding that their silly little personal lives mattered more than the economic and physical health of the country. John was at real risk of going destitute due to the furlough scheme ending soon, which Tom was trying to alleviate by organising a kickstarter to keep him afloat, and the rest of the team were working hard to try and keep going, no matter what. Steph had been quiet for ages, which worried Jimmy a bit, and the conduct of people in society worried him. It seemed that, instead of pulling together in a crisis, everybody was pulling in opposite directions, blaming each other for the virus instead of coming together and trying to find a solution.
"I mean, imagine of people had behaved like this during WW2? We'd never have beaten the Axis powers if we'd all just blamed each other for the Axis! Whilst these people are all stroking their own egos, people are dying and society is no longer working properly anymore. It sickens me."
"I hear you, mate," Tom replied. "The world is a load of shit at the moment. Katrina here hasn't seen her family in six months now, and she's desperately homesick. This is nothing but a nightmare."
"A nightmare from which we can't wake up," Jimmy said sadly. "I need to head out now, as they're offering free pretzels in the town square."
"Why?"
"Beats me," Jimmy replied.
"One second, Kat wants to say something." Tom stepped back from the screen, and sure enough, Kat was in his place.
"Hey Jimmy. Missing you from here. It looked like things were improving, but now it's like we're all going in reverse to where we started. It's an absolute mess, and I have no idea how much longer I can actually stay."
"They can hardly send you back, can they?"
"Nope. Not with these travel bans all over the place. But I miss home nonetheless."
"Funny how that trip to Universal Studios was our last time together, barring a few TF incidents."
"I know. Teleportation is a funny thing, huh? Oh well, I suppose I shouldn't keep you any longer."
"See you later!" Jimmy called, and off he went. He went downstairs and out of his door, and through the door, and closed it at the other end, and then he walked to the end of his garden and joined the roadway that headed off into town.
Thankfully, Manteo was now a lot quieter than in the past, so it was much more secure. Following the crab incident a few weeks back which had led to a rapid uptick in cases (not related to the upsurge in girls with strange skin conditions that occurred around the same time) the local police was now enforcing the rules properly. After all, nobody likes being left out of pocket.
Jimmy continued his journey into town, walking and smiling as he did so. And as he reached his destination, he suddenly noticed that something had been left on the floor. Twas a pretzel, and a pretzel it was indeed with pretzeliness on the ground. Jimmy knew he shouldn't pick up the pretzel, but he was silly, and so he did.
There was a bright flash. When the light settled, Jimmy was gone. No trace of him remained. Not even a pair of glasses.
The entity that was in his place was a quadruped of some description that looked like it had fallen into a bath of some sort, with bright orange fur running up and down its body. A cursory glance would have revaled the creature to be female, with a purple tail and mane, the mane being very frizzy and curly in places as it ran down the creature's neck. The tail was not. And it had a symbol of a red pretzel on its flanks.
Pretzel Twist glanced about at all the gigantic buildings around her, and shrugged her shoulders. "Maybe this is a suburb of Manehattan?" she asked, addressing the question to nobody in particular. Noticing a table up ahead, she set off for the table to see pretzels being sold on it, and nobody manning it. "Ah! That's where my stand went! Off I go!"
She hopped up onto the chair and addressed the first customer. "Hello! Pretzel for you, sir?"
The gentleman looked in his glass. "What is in this stuff?" he asked. "Is a horse talking to me?"
"A pony is indeed talking to you," Pretzel Twist replied. "A pretzel for you, sir?"
"Of course! It's why I'm here, after all," the fellow replied with a small smile mixed with a look of 'what on earth am I smoking' in there.
"No problem! That'll be 6 bits."
"Bits?"
"Oh, sorry, my bad! I do need to remember to convert to your human currency. That'll be a dollar fifty."
The customer handed over the money, and the next one came forward in the line, looking equally surprised, possibly at how cheap the food was.
At the end of the day, Pretzel Twist had made quite a healthy profit off the local community. She packed her table away, put it behind a tree for safe keeping, and loaded her wares into her saddle back, setting off on her way to her home as the sun set in the sky.
