My name is Alex Mercer. I’m a scientist. When they asked me as a kid what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said, “Scientist, please!” I dreamed scientist, I worked scientist, I studied scientist. I got lucky; When a strange virus was discovered in Manhattan, a national team of scientists was put together to go and study it and I made the cut.

I got even luckier. When disaster struck, our team was slaughtered by things. Bad things. I fell asleep, and now I'm somewhere else with those terrible things and I'm not sure I'm even human anymore.

Now I’m lost, and alone, and scared. And the voices, can't forget about the voices. I can't eat anything in here without the voices chiming in.
