That's Exactly What I'll Do
A Day Of Discord
Load Full StoryThe very moment the Draconequus opens his eyes, his vision perceives another beautiful day of existence. The feathered creatures twitter delicately among the trees, the brook rises with a joyous tone, a feeling of something surprising is or will happen in a matter of seconds energizes the Lord of Chaos whom all Equestria knows as… 'Conflict.' The air is still, without a breeze put something aside for the flows made by passing swallows.
The temperature is quite nice, the Draconequus noted, if a slight on the warm side. He was glancing around from the solace of his unassuming home, taking in that outside air. Discord accepts a flawless walk around the world would do the trick—an opportunity to ponder his contemplations in his organization, and whatever comes to his direction.
"Yes," Discord agreed to himself. "That is exactly what I will do today!”
Disposing of the fronts of his larger than usual bed, kicking himself onto his feet, a flick of the tail and Discord utilizes his capacity to overlay the sheets into a slick square shape of fiber… only to mess it again because symmetrical folds are very displeasing. With a glance around his modest home, guaranteeing nothing is the place where it should be (because nothing in his reality ever is in place), Discord unreservedly goes out. He ventures out to investigate the wide, open world just past the front entryway.
Opening a portal with a snap of his talons, Discord is rewarded with the sight of a pleasant rolling hill containing a single apple tree situated at the crest. Despite its age and the weight of the ripe, delicious fruit it bears, the tree itself stands tall and honest. Discord claps his paw and claw together with a yawn, making the single fruit drop and roll down the incline of the hill. The gravitational pull increases the apple's speed, gathering bits of grass and dirt before Discord teleports in front of it and picks it up.
"Ah yes," Discord spoke, examining the fruit. "Now that's how you make a tasty treat heartier."
Popping the fruit into his mouth, a healthy breakfast to start the day, Discord chews slowly with solemnity. Seconds pass, revealing its firmness and resolute as he turns toward the tree. Knowing it will always be there, ready to bear fruit to those in need. Shadows begin to cast over his head as Discord twists his neck like an owl, looking up toward the sky with pique interest.
Discord carefully observes the clouds lazily drifting by or some not moving at all. They float so serenely, sharing space with the rainbow permanently etched in the sky like a picture-perfect frame. Discord reaches an arm towards the horizon, at the end of the rainbow, obscured by the distant mountain range.
Probing the rainbow a pit and summoning a large cauldron, Discord holds it out as the rainbow leaks a rainfall of coins neatly stacked alongside gems of assorted color and density, which in turn rests against magical head ornaments. He picks one up and carefully observes with an eyepiece… which he puts back in his mouth and instantly transforms back into his one bucktooth.
"Too flashy even for me to wear," Discord replies to himself.
Checking everything to ensure they are indeed where they, Discord sticks a talon into the cauldron and removes a few gems he intends to save for later. He soon shakes the pot like a margarita cup, stirring the gems and coins at a rapid pace before placing the whole thing at the end of the rainbow (so it will continue to brew when he comes back).
Applauding the spectrum for loyally safeguarding the contents without judgment or ridicule, Discord widens his arms and makes the rainbow slightly brighter. Only because such beauty deserves to compete with the sun and moon for dominance over the sky. The rainbow shines like the heavens itself, silently swelling with pride and emits flashes of rainbow lightning.
Discord continues to stroll toward the forthcoming outcome, a respect for the conceivable outcomes it may bring and the inconceivabilities the day may kill. Small woodland critters, just along the edge of the woods, peering toward the draconequus from the safety of the bushes and ferns. Gazing from the brassica with cautious acceptance in their eyes, for they by now are used to his solitary presence (if not wholly comfortable with it).
"Ah… my public!" Discord smirked.
Picking up a leaf of cabbage from the ground, partly eaten by a nearby rabbit, Discord's eyes pop forward as his vision reveals a fuzzy yellow caterpillar clinging to the underside. Making a tsking sound with his tongue, shaking his head, Discord plucks a berry from a nearby bush and places it beside the creature. The caterpillar shyly nibbles the berry just before it metamorphoses into a cocoon.
Blinking a bit, Discord lifts his arm, revealing a watch with his image and his arms to indicate the time. Placing the leaf with the cocoon gently to the ground, he taps the watch with his paw. The watch starts to move the hour and minute hands at a rapid pace. He turns back to the cocoon, seeing time speed up the process, and the creature emerges as a beautiful pink butterfly.
The butterfly itself spreads its wings, lifting off from the leaf, and lands briefly upon the tallest of his two horns protruded from his skull. Eventually, the butterfly circles around his head and flutters quietly away, showing kindness to those willing to follow it.
"Good luck, little guy!" Discord waved with a smirk. "Don't let the Everfree Forest eat you."
Crossing the well-worn path that does not exist, humming a noteless tun to himself, an expression upon Discord's face lets him know how he feels. As he happens upon a field of unkempt grass, with a sizeable under-dressed stone in the middle. He pulls out the precious stones set in his 'whimsical pocket' from the seat of his 'pants.' He keeps on covering the pearls in a fix of the productive soil, which he tunneled with a lone scoop of his paw and drops the gems with his talon.
Discord's eyes turn to a passing cloud, grasping it and squeezing the rain out of it onto the entombed valuables like a sponge. Discord watches as the water is consumed by the dirt below, with an audible sucking sound effect. After a short while of waiting, the ground erupts from that very spot as a plant-like tendril of sapphire sprouts leaves of emerald, illuminated with an unmatched brightness.
A few moments later, clusters of ruby flowers appear with a diamond ovule, growing in size. Snapping his talon, Discord moves his structure into a rancher with a stick of wheat in his mouth. Whistling, Discord proceeds to harvest the fully developed crop weaving them into a hat with a matching tie and cloak. He then places the articles of clothing onto the appropriate spots along the boulder, even adding a pair of shades for the boulder.
"Sweet treasures of the Earth," Discord prayed allowed. "Thank you for charitably providing your valuable service to the less fortunate on this otherwise mundane world."
Continuing on his way, Discord's heart starts to race as if the sense of an upcoming miracle is so prevalent. So wondrous this feeling, he couldn't resist the urge to skip merrily along the rushing river, flowing meanderingly along the forest's edge. Unable to resist the urge, he lifts off the top of his head, revealing a swim-cap in place of his horns. Then he strips the britches of his legs, revealing a pair of yellow swim trucks that match the cap.
Diving sideways like a synchronized swimmer, Discord plops deep into the river before plopping out like a dolphin with a breath of relief. He swims merrily above the water, with a manic grin upon his face, while racing a branch shaped like a balloon to its destination. As his race proceeds, he allows the water vapor emitted from the stream to hitchhike, in a word, along with various parts of his variable pelt.
He was wiping off the water with a single finger, licking it with a smack of his lips. His eyes close as his minds hum, visions of the sweetness of Sugarcube Corner's famous cupcakes. He was followed by the happiness and laughter between himself and the buttercup coated Pegasus, his favorite companion in Equestria (Then again, his 'only' true friend in Equestria overall). An additional disturbance draws Discord out of his daydream as he starts to realize he was coming toward a cascading waterfall just up ahead.
"Uh oh…"
Instead of swimming, Discord sprints along the water's surface to catch up to the elusive timber. All before, it tumbles into the abysmal maw of the lake underneath, but thankfully Discord manages to reach it. Discord grabs the balloon-shaped wood by its 'string,' slowing their descent just before they fell. He clings to the wood like a real inflatable and terrains onto the shore with such prospering and beauty through his sorcery.
With his feet on solid ground, Discord releases the stick and watches it soar above the sky into the vast unknowable beyond. He was watching as the piece of lumber is carried about through its mysterious inner power. Discord bows deeply, his face expression heartfelt thanks for their time spent playing together.
"Parting is such sweet sorrow!" Discord declared mentally.
Discord looks up as the sun and moon smile upon the draconequus. As though the sky above were quietly expressing gratitude toward Discord for learning the worth and significance of light and dimness to keep harmony among request and disarray… or something to that effect. Still, Discord can sense a love that felt like such an eternity ago, in the hearts and minds of those who roamed the land before. An impervious energy cracks in the air, with a surge of purpose, laid dormant far longer than he cares to remember.
Within a short amount of time, Discord has come to learn the real power of Friendship. True, there was a time long ago he took friendship for granted and how he was willing to abuse it so that he wouldn't be turned to stone again. For he believed friendship could outlast everything but the Lord of Chaos himself. But a part of him, stemming deep inside, informed him that one-day friendship would outlast him too if he doesn't flow with it like the rushing rivers.
A smile dawns upon his face as if Discord had fully discovered friendship's real purpose in life. Only chaos can create something when nothing remains.
"Yes, that's exactly what I will do."
