Chapter 1 : Invocation
The rain slowly falls down trough the cold night air and falls on the softened ground.
It is a dark night, only brightened by some lightnings.
I am walking alone in this night but I don’t mind, I have been alone all my life.
The ground is very muddy because of the rain and my white mantle got dirty at its golden edges, so did my hooves.
Expect of that, the rain doesn’t really annoy me.
The mantle maybe is a bit dirty, but it is still very warm and it doesn’t let water slip through it to my white fur. My head and my red striped mane are both covered by a cowl and not a single drop reached them so far.
My target is right in front of me:
A small, innocent town at the edge of a wild, sometimes called “mysterious” forest. I glance a bit at the houses to the right and left, but they all look quite the same, expect for some shops and a bakery. All doors are closed, so are the windows. Sometimes, some of the rooms behind the windows get lightened, but only for a few seconds before the darkness fills their inner again.
´Strange´, I think, ´although this is a place of an average population, it’s more quiet than I expected.´
Very slowly I walk on the ground, getting my hooves deeper into the mud every single step. The rain got stronger and large puddles are forming themselves everywhere. Some windows even got misted by the humidity.
The place I am going for is a big tree at the end of the street. I can see its conturs in the darkness and my steps get faster. Some brown leaves fall down from it, they had to make place for new ones.
After all, it was still the beginning of spring.
The trunk has a door and windows, it got converted into a house, or, to be more accurate, a library. The sign besides the door tells me, that a pony named Twilight Sparkle lives here with her assistant, Spike.
I look through a large window at the left side of the “house” and make clear, nopony is awake inside of it.
´Even if I open the window carefully and quietly, the rain could be loud enough to wake them up...or maybe the cold night air could.´
My thoughts sound a bit over-cautious, but I mustn’t get the attention of this “Twilight”...or worse, of the whole town if I break into her house and get chased afterwards .
I just shake my head and get my minds straight. I planned this for weeks, even though I just know this place from the distance. Failure is not allowed, it is not a viable option.
I take a closer look on the edges of the window...they seem to be like the whole thing, very thin.
“Exort Trionis.”,
I try to speak as quiet as possible and not a second later three red, small spheres appear around me and lighten the surrounding a little bit. I repeat the words again and concentrate myself on the edges of the window.
The spheres disappear and the edges immediately begin to glow red, as if they are heated in a fire.
A few seconds later, the window falls in my direction and I am able to catch it and lend it on the trunk. The path is open.
The wooden planks on the ground creak a little, as I set my hooves on them. The rain and my soaked mantle slowly create a puddle under my hooves.
“Quas.”
Another sphere appears, this time it’s just a single one that it glows in a powerful blue. The blue light quickly fills the room and I am able to see bookshelves which stand next to the walls.
The shelves are fully filled with books, which coincidentally are alphabetically sorted.
I slowly go from shelf to shelf since I know the title of the book I need.
“D...H...M....how much books does this pony own?”, I quietly mumble to myself.
My monologue gets vastly interrupted, as I hear muffled steps from the room above me.
Somepony in this house woke up.
My view rapidly goes over the spines and I finally find the letter “T” with the book I have been searching for so long.
All of the sudden, I hear a voice from the room behind me.
“Spike, did you leave the window open? It’s getting very cold in here.”
I have no time to lose. I run as fast as I can to the open window frame, holding the book between my teeth.
“Who are you?”
I slowly turn around, making sure my face can not be seen under the cowl.
A purple unicorn with a red-blue striped mane stares at me. Her face tells me that she is like wisely surprised and angry.
Afterwards, I put the book into one of the pockets inside of my mantle.
“That is not significant. Just go upstairs and sleep.”, I answer to her, not sure what to do. I could easily get rid of her, but I don’t want to let this escalate.
Her horn begins to glow in a purple light, which gets brighter every second.
“Listen, young pony. It is not my intention to harm you, just leave me alone and...”
Just as I wanted to finish the sentence she summons a large net out of nowhere and throws it in my direction with her magic.
“Wex Duonis, Wex cyclonus!”, I quietly say to myself and two more spheres appear near the blue one I summoned a few minutes ago, but these ones are glowing purple. Not a moment later, they disappear and a gust of wind comes from my body, repelling the net and throwing the pony down to the ground. Some books fell out of the shelves and are now distributed everywhere on the ground and her.
“I apologize for the inconvenience, but I have to leave now, Twilight Sparkle, farewell.”
Just as I finished the sentence I jumped through the window frame, into the sinister, cold and rainy night.
I turn around my head once more to see how she slowly stands up, rubbing her head and asking herself what just happened. A smile emerges on my face. I love it how clueless ponies are when they get in contact with my invocations.
“I’m sure that she will follow and try to stop me, I have to walk faster.”, I say to myself, trying to avoid the deep puddles on the ground, which turns out to be more difficult than I imagined due to the missing of light.
But I mustn’t use one of my spheres or else the unicorn that chases me would see me.
I begin to run, quickly turning my head around for a moment to see how she rushes towards me, with her horn glowing
Just a few feet away from me is a small alleyway which I could use for my escape.
.
“Quas Quas Wex!!”
Two blue and a purple sphere appear, circling around me as I bend into the alleyway.
I quickly repeat what I say, and I can see how my whole body instantaneously turns diaphanous.
At this moment, I can see myself....well, I can see my contours but for everyone else...
I turned invisible.
Just now the pony sprints into the alleyway, right past me.
But I can’t stay here forever. In the next twenty seconds my invisibility will vanish and it would be too risky to use it again, the light the spheres radiate would draw attention to myself.
After 15 seconds I turn visible again, but I’m no longer in danger. At the moment, I am located on an apple farm under a bush. I dig out a hole under it and....voilá, there is the backpack I buried here about an hour ago.
I place the mantle with the book inside it and take out a thin blanket. Afterwards, I close the hole and make sure that nopony can see it under the brush.
Under a massive apple tree where I decide to take a rest, neither my red mane nor my fur would get wet so I can sleep here in peace.
“I will study the book tomorrow and hopefully get the information I want.
I also hope that I don’t have to leave this town too early...
Maybe I can make friends with this purple pony....what was her name again?
Twilight, I guess...
It seems her library has a lot of informative books and she isn’t a weak unicorn either, maybe I can make use of her somehow....but now...
I need rest...”
