King Spike

It was a new day in the dragon kingdom and Rilda was walking towards Spike room to wake him up, it might be the day after the Royal ball but the king still had his duties to do. Rilda really wished she could go on a vacation but it wasn’t easy when she was the king’s personal maid, she really hope she could find some help.

When Rilda arrived at Spike’s room, she knock on the door. “King Spike, it’s time to get up.” There was no answer so she knock again, no answer. “King Spike?” She open the door, poke her head in and boy was she surprised, Spike was not lying in his bed, he wasn’t in his room at all. “What the…?” Rilda didn’t hear the water running so he wasn’t in the shower, she didn’t know what to do considering Spike usually are sleeping in the morning.

Rilda then heard footsteps so she look in the direction where they were coming from and walking towards her was a guard, it was a guard who usually stand guard by Spike’s room in the day. Maybe he knew where the king was. “Excuse me.” The guard was a little surprised that Rilda spoke, he didn’t think anyone would be by the king’s room. “Do you know where king Spike is? He isn’t in his room.”

The guard shook his head. “No, I just arrived but the guard that had the night shift told me that the king was up early and was heading towards the kitchen.” Rilda didn’t expect to hear that, she thanked the guard and headed to the kitchen.

Once Rilda arrived at the kitchen and she couldn’t believe what she saw, standing by the kitchen counter was Spike and he was making food, he was stirring something in a bowl. Rilda was lost for words, she never thought Spike would get up so early to make breakfast. “My king, what are you doing?” She asked him as she walk towards him.

Spike didn’t turn around. “What does it look like, I’m making breakfast.” He told her as he keep stirring.

Rilda blink a few times, one could say that she was confused. “I’m aware of that, but a king shouldn’t make breakfast, we have chefs for that.”

“I know that, I gave them the morning off so I could make breakfast for Twilight and the other.” He said to Rilda without looking at her.

“Didn’t Twilight make you do that when you lived with her?” Rilda asked Spike.

Spike didn’t answer right away. “Yes, that’s true. But right now I don’t care, they are my friends and I want to make breakfast for them. So, are you going to stand there or are you going to help me?” Rilda could hear that he was getting a little irritated.

Again, Rilda was lost for words. She had never thought that Spike would do this on his own free will, there was much she didn’t know about him. Right now, she decided to give him a helping hand, Rilda found an aproned and started to help. She started to cut up some vegetables.

Making breakfast wasn’t the only thing Spike did, he was also making coffee for Celestia, he thought that she needed it. When the pot of coffee was done, he placed the pot on a tray with a cup and handed it to one of the maids that was in the kitchen. “Can you bring this to Celestia’s room?” He asked her.

The maid happily took the trap. “It would be a pleasure king Spike.” She headed out of the kitchen.

Celestia was lying under her quilt, she had a giant headache and was trying to have it so dark as she possible could. Then someone knock on the door which made her headache worst. “Luna, somepony is knocking on the door.” She exclaimed.

“I’m in the shower, drag your tail out of the bed and answer the door yourself.” Said Luna from the bathroom.

Celestia just wanted whoever was knocking on the door would go away, that didn’t happened, considering they keep knocking on the door. Celestia removed the quilt and then she was meet by the sunlight that blinded her. “This is the last time I drink alcohol.” She said to herself as she got out of the bed and headed to the door, she open it and saw a maid standing there with a pot that on a tray. “Yes?” She said with a groggy voice.

“I have brought you some coffee made by king Spike.” The maid told Celestia, the princess just step aside so the dragoness could enter the room, the maid walk over to a table and place the tray on it. “Breakfast will be ready soon.” Said the maid as she left the room.

Celestia was a little disappointed that the maid didn’t pour her a cup of coffee, but at the moment, she really didn’t care. Celestia walked over to the table and poured a cup herself, the coffee was something she needed.

Luna was finished with showering and step out of the bathroom with a towel wrap around her waist, she also had a towel on her head. She saw that her sister was sitting in a chair drinking, which was probably coffee. “Did that tray arrived when I was in the shower?” She asked her sister who just nodded her head. “Alright then.” She decided to get dressed.

While the other guests was getting ready to eat breakfast, a certain female zebra was walking towards the exit with her luggage. Zecora didn’t get much sleep last night, thanks to her conversation with her father and queen Nishi she just wanted to get far away from them as possible and going back to her home in the Everfree forest was the only place she could think off.

Once Zecora got top the entrance to the castle, she encountered one of the dragon knight. “Miss Zecora?” It was Tomias. “Are you going somewhere?” He asked her.

Zecora stop in front of him. “Yes, I’m heading home so I can get away from my father.”

Sounded like family trouble which Tomias didn’t want to get involved in. “And what about king Spike? What do you think he would think if he found out that you have left?” He hoped she would stay, for Spike.

“If he heard me yesterday he would understand. Now, are you going to stop me or can I leave?” Tomias wasn’t about to stop her so he step aside. “Thank you.” Zecora started to walk. “And tell Spike that I’m sorry, but I’m too angry to stay here.” She then left leaving Tomias alone.

Twilight and the girls had just entered the dining room and they were amazed how big it was, the room could fit at least thirty guests, maybe more. “Why is the dining room so big?” Applejack asked, she couldn’t understand why.

“It’s because events like this.” Said a new voice which scared the girls, they turned around and saw that it was queen Umbra. “Haven’t you been Celestia’s castle in Canterlot?” She asked Applejack as she walk past them. Applejack knew that and she felt a little dumb.

It didn’t take long before the rest of guest arrived.

Celestia and Luna took their seat by the end of the table, they sat to the right and left of where the king would sit, the others took their seat where they could. Then the others royal arrived.

“Where is king Spike?” Asked Umbra who was sitting beside a very nervous Fluttershy, who tried to hide behind her long hair.

“The king should be arriving soon, he is preparing breakfast for you all.” Answered one of the maid.

Everyone was surprised to hear that, even his friends didn’t expect to hear that. “King Spike is making breakfast?” Asked King Kuro the same maid who just nodded her head. “A king shouldn’t make breakfast, he has chefs to do that.” Every royal nodded their head in agreement.

Celestia and Luna didn’t agree. “I don’t see the problem that a king can make breakfast, me and Luna do it all the time.” Said Celestia.

Before anyone could reply, the doors to the kitchen open and in walk Spike, Rilda and some maids. They were all carrying trays with different food, they all placed the trays on the table.

The royals had trouble with the whole thing, so Umbra decided to ask. “King Spike, why are you making breakfast? A king shouldn’t do such a thing, you have chefs to make food.”

Spike placed his tray on the table. “What’s wrong with me making food? Do you all have an issue with it?” He asked Umbra.

Umbra became a little nervous. “Off course, I just thought it was a little weird. You are a king after all and you have servants.” For some reason she started to sweat and she didn’t know why.

Spike was now offended. “I don’t believe it, I’m trying to do something nice to you all and this is the thanks I get?” He then started to walk towards the exit. “You can all eat without me, I have lost my appetite.” He then left and Rilda was right behind him.

After Spike left, the room became quite and Umbra felt like an idiot. The other nobles also felt like an idiot, they might not have said anything but they thought about it. Celestia, Luna and his friends felt bad for Spike. All he wanted was to do something nice and this was the thanks he got? He would never make breakfast for royal anymore.

After breakfast, the girls decided to explore the castle. They wanted to spend time with Spike, but he had royal duties. So, they had to wait until he was done. Twilight and the others was walking through a hall in the castle but there was one problem, they were lost. Leading them was Dash and she didn’t want to ask for direction, her pride was in the way. That annoyed her friends, especially Rarity.

“Can we please ask somepony for directions?” Rarity ask Dash as they walk. “I swear, you can even be more stubborn the Applejack.” She said while crossing her arms. She then look over at the farm. “No offence.” Applejack just shrugged her shoulders, she knew she could be stubborn, she wasn’t offended.

“We don’t need directions, I know where we are going.” All her friends just rolled their eyes, they knew she would say that. Pinkie just thought it was funny.

After some more walking, Dash and the others arrived at some double doors which was wide open. Once they look inside they could see a giant ring in the middle of the room, weapons, it look like a training room.

“What kind of room is this?” Fluttershy asked with her normal shy voice.

Dash couldn’t help but smile. “I don’t know but I like it.” She then started to walk toward the entrance.

“What are you doing?” Rarity asked her pegasus friend.

Dash didn’t answer, she just keep on walking and when she reached the entrance, she was hit by a barrier and flew backwards, then she hit the wall and feel on the floor face first. “Dash.” Shy ran over to her friend to see if she was alright.

Dash sat up and rub her head. “Ugh, what happened?” She asked no one particular.

“There’s a barrier that prevent you for entering the room.” Said Twilight as she used her magic to study the barrier. “A very powerful barrier.” She didn’t dare to touch the barrier.

Then they heard laughter. “Oh man, that was hilarious.” They all look in the direction and could see Raldrin leaning on the wall while laughing. “I never get tired of seeing others think they can enter our training room without permission, it’s cracks me up every time.” She got up from the wall and started to walk towards the ponies who became a little nervous when they saw her red eyes, Raldrin then look at Dash who, was now standing. “Didn’t your mother teach you not to go into others room without permission?” Dash just grumble under breath which made Radlrin chuckle. She then look at the rest and saw that Twilight had hide behind Applejack, the farm had no idea why. “What are you ponies doing here?” She asked them.

None of them dared to answer, so Rarity did it. “We are here because we are lost.” She said while giving Dash a disappointing look, the pegasus just ignored her which made Rarity shook her head in disappointment. “We were also wondering what kind of room this is.” She said while looking at dragoness.

“If you all want to know, it’s or private training room.” Said Raldrin as she walk into the room, the barrier didn’t affect her. “And the only one who can enter is the Dragons knight and king Spike, you can also enter if you are invited by a Dragon knight or the king. You six, are not invited.” She said that last part with a mocking tone. “Just sick around, the show is about to start.” She said as she walk over to a bench that was near the door and sat down.

The girls had no idea what she meant, but then they heard footstep. Then they saw Drake and a red panther walking towards them, it was Nox, captain of the panther guard. Both of them walk into the room, then into the middle of the ring that was in the room, they then got into fighting positions. They were about to fight. Raldrin couldn’t help but smile. “This happens every time.” Then they started.

Nox was the first to make a move, he dashed towards Drake and got ready to punch the dragon with his right. Drake managed to doge to the left and got ready a counter punch but he never got the change, Nox went after him with his left which made contact, Drake stagger back. The dragon managed to recover fast, he then decided to throw a right one at Nox who didn’t have time to doge, he was hit right in the nose. Now covert his nose with is hand and felt the blood, he was bleeding. The panther look at Drake who had a smug smile, which just made Nox angry. He dashed towards Drake again and this time they fought for real.

The girls just watch as Drake and Nox fought each other, dealt blow for blow, they got bloodier as each blow landed. Fluttershy didn’t want to watch so she walked away from the door, Rarity followed her friend. Applejack, Twilight and Pinkie thought it was barbaric while Dash thought it was awesome, she couldn’t believe there was warrior like this right in front of her. But, the fight was almost over.

A new voice spoke up. “What is going on here?” Drake and Nox stop fighting, everyone look in the direction of the voice and standing behind the girls was Spike and he didn’t look happy. Rilda was also there and she was not happy that her brother was fighting. “Drake, what’s the meaning of this and why are you fighting captain Nox?” Spike couldn’t believe what he was seeing, Drake was supposed to protect him but it didn’t look like it.

Drake didn’t dare to say anything so Raldrin decided to speak up. “It’s very simple your highness, Drake and Nox always fight to see who is the best fighter.” She said as she got up from the bench. “I’m surprised that they didn’t fight at your mother funeral, I guess they managed to control themselves.” Raldrin knew that Drake was mad at her but she didn’t care.

Spike didn’t like what he heard. “I can’t believe you are fighting over who is best, how old are you? As long as you are in my castle you will not fight anyone to determine who is the best, is that clear?” Spike was very upset.

Drake decided to not anger Spike anymore, he bowed. “Understood king Spike.”

Spike was happy to hear that, he then look at Nox. “Captain Nox.” The panther stood right up. “You might not be my captain, but as long as you are in my castle you will obey my rulers and that mean no fighting. Understood?” Nox saluted and said yes king Spike. “Good. Now, get yourself to sickbay and get patch up but you have to do it yourself. I don’t want to hear that you had help from Pethayrth or the other healers.” Spike then left cursing, he wasn’t happy.

The girls just look in amazement at Spike, they had never seen him like that before. “Twilight, have Spike ever spoken like that before?” Applejack asked the unicorn.

Twilight shook her head. “Never, I guess it’s part of being a ruler.” She couldn’t have known, she had never seen or heard Celestia raised her voice before.

As Drake and Now left the room, Rilda spoke up. “You are right Twilight Sparkle, it’s part of being a ruler and king Spike is under a lot of pressure these days. Seeing Drake and Now fight, didn’t help.” Rilda then saw Raldrin leave the room. “Why didn’t you stop them?” She asked the dragoness.

Raldrin just snorted. “Oh please, I couldn’t stop them if I wanted to. You know when those two start fighting, it’s almost impossible to stop them.” She then left.

Rilda just shook her head, she then look at Twilight and her friends. “I’m so sorry that you had to witness that, it’s not usually like this.” They just nodded. “Anyway, the king is busy all day but he is free tomorrow and he can spend some time with you. If you all can behave.” That last past was directed at Dash, who she gave an ice glare. Dash actually started to shale in fear. “Why don’t you all let me give you a tour of the castle, so you don’t get lost.” They were more than happy with a tour.

Umbra was walking through the halls of the castle, her destination, Spike rooms. Umbra has felt bad ever since breakfast, all he wanted to do was something nice for his friends, Celestia explain it after he left, and since then Umbra has felt bad for question him. So, she was on her way to apologize to him. Night had fall in the dragon kingdom and hopefully was Spike in his room. Umbra didn’t want to look for him, she was not familiar with his castle, she could barely find her way in her own castle.

Once Umbra reached Spike’s room, she saw the dragon about to enter his room. “King Spike.” Spike was about to open the door when Umbra called his name, he let out a tired groan, he just wanted to go to bed. “I need to talk to you.”

Spike hit his head on the door. “What?” He was so tired.

Umbra saw that he wasn’t that eager to talk, so she decided to do it fast. “I just wanted to apologize for what I said at breakfast, I shouldn’t have said it and I am sorry.” She then bowed.

Spike let out a heavy sighed. “Don’t worry about it, I’m not mad at you or the others.” Umbra was relieved to hear that. “Now, if you will excuse me, I’m going to lay down and sleep until morning.” He when into his room and closed the door. It was time to sleep.
