"The machine uses a variable flux flow of anti-histaminic particles in accordance to the principles of transquantum wavelengths that then feed into the orbital barometer that then sends a beam of hypodimensional causality coincidences that then coalesce into this topical gel that when applied should grant an effect similar to the theorized postdeluvian mesosphere."
Rainbow blinked a few times and then nodded slowly. "Right, got that."
"No you don't." Twilight said bluntly. Rainbow stared at her and opened her mouth to defend herself, only to get cut off. "What I just said was utter nonsense. It literally makes no sense. Just a bunch of words with no real meaning when put together."
"Fine, maybe I am lost and have no idea what you're talking about, but at least tell me what the dumb thing does!" Rainbow huffed. "Fine, I suppose I should at least tell you that much." Twilight then hefted what looked like a sort of science fiction trumpet. "This device will interface with your innate psionic field-"
"Still sounding like magic, Twi."
"Psionics and magic are completely different!" Twilight said testily before taking a breath to steady herself. "Look, everyone has a psionic field, it just is a thing. Most of us have a field that extends to just below the level of our skin, which is good. If two psionic fields intermingle, the stronger one has the possibility of overpowering the lesser one. Some people have fields that extend a bit out of their bodies, most of those are in public office or conning you out of your bits - or both."
"Is that why the nut is never under the cup?"
"No, that's slight of hand." Twilight said, not even thinking twice about it. "Either way, what we have here, in as simple of terms as I can manage, is a psionic enhancer. It temporarily increases the strength of your psionic field, so it should also increase its size slightly during the treatment's duration. What the entirety of the effect will be is unknown and is why we are doing this."
"But it isn't cancer." Rainbow said. She said nothing. "It isn't cancer, right?" She asked, growing more concerned by Twilight's lack of immediate response. "I know athletes that survive cancer usually get great book deals and all, but I rather be on the field than racking in the cash from a book."
"I am eighty-seven percent sure that you won't get cancer." Twilight said with an air of manufactured certainty.
"Eighty-seven? Can we raise that percentage somehow? Like, to one hundred for instance?" Rainbow asked, getting more and more antsy by the second as the purple scientist began to flip switches.
"As I said, there is no certainty since I haven't tested this on anyone else. None of the animal tests developed cancer, so you are likely to be cancer free after this - except if you already had cancer beforehand." Twilight said, twisting a nob that caused the instrument in her hand to begin to hum slightly. Rainbow shifted nervously, not sure what to make of all of this. Her friend had given her the best assurances she could. It just so happened that Twilight was bad at comforting people.
"Alright then, are you ready to have a psionic field enhancement for the next hour or so?" Twilight asked with a jovial smile, raising the trumpet-thing up like a rifle. It did nothing for Rainbow's nerves.
"I-I guess." Rainbow choked out. Sometimes she wished she was less loyal and more brave. A brave person might've had the nerve to say no to Twilight.
"Brace yourself. This shouldn't hurt, but you never know." Twilight said, pushing down a plunger on the device.
Nothing.
Rainbow blinked a few times, her nerve slowly returning as the room didn't explode and she didn't get sent flying towards the opposite wall. The room didn't go deafly quite or incredibly still, and even Twilight seemed mystified for a few seconds. She looked over to the panel beside her an watched as the needle wavered at the higher end of the spectrum before finally falling down. The experiment had gone off without a hitch by all accounts, but the anticlimax had certainly been a let down for both of them - even for the girl who had seen this exact sort of thing before. Of course when a mouse had a trumpet pointed at them they tended to freak out, so maybe that was what was off.

"I... well I don't feel bad." Rainbow admitted, looking over her arms as if expecting them to be longer. It really was weird, she could sense something was different. It almost felt like her skin was both where it was and a good distance away. Her borders were expanded, but somehow... she still felt the same.
"The psionometer is reading a greater output of psionic energies from you." Twilight commented. Rainbow looked up and saw the strange device in question, which looked like a cobbled together mess of a phone, a wireless radio, and a Geiger counter. Rainbow wondered if there was a warehouse full of kitbash science devices or if Twilight made her own. Probably the latter.
"So... it worked then?" Rainbow asked, not sure what it having worked precisely meant. Then again, Twilight had mentioned something that a stronger field could do. She tried extending a hand that she hadn't had before to Twilight. She felt... something. It seemed to touch Twilight, but it wasn't like normal.
She focused, stepping a tad closer as she tried to exert whatever it was. Twilight said something, but Rainbow was a tad bit to distracted to pay attention. She suddenly felt the connection. Was this what Twilight meant by intersecting fields or whatever? It was tingly... and somehow wrong.

"Rainbow?" Twilight broke through to her finally. Rainbow shook her head, clearing her mind.
"Sorry, zoned out, what was that?" Rainbow asked, returning her full attention to Twilight.

This power, Rainbow thought, was the type of power that a girl could get drunk on. She loved this, every second of it. The control she had, the submission the others gave her, and the ability to make her whims come to pass. It was all too good to be true. It then hit her - it was.
She didn't have this power forever - Twilight had said so. She also couldn't get the nerd to give her the treatment again through the coercion she could manage on Rarity and Applejack. Twilight was, at least as far as Rainbow could tell, stronger than her in the area of psionics. Rainbow's powers would fade, and then she'd be left without any ability to have this fun again.
And then it hit her again.
She didn't have to get a new boost, and she didn't need to give up this power over these two. Of course! Sometimes it payed to be smart, and Rainbow had her moments of intelligence. She wasn't an idiot, after all, just not a genius.
"You both are waking up from trance, and as you do, you return to the people you once were." She began, her glee growing with every word she thought. "However, whenever Rainbow grabs one of your boobs and touches your crotch at the same time, you will return to this state and do whatever Rainbow orders without hesitation." The two girls before her shivered slightly, the new truth implanting itself deep within them.
Rainbow smiled at them. A switch had been installed that would give her powers like she would shortly lose. She'd be able to control them, dominate them. This was going to be so much fun! For now, though, she still had some time. Sure, they'd wake up from trance, but some nonpermanent changes could be made. The night was still young, and Rainbow could go for some more.
