A Dream of Chaotic Proportions

Luna's Room, Canterlot Castle

Rising out of her bed, the Lunar Princess yawned stretching her forelegs into the air before settling back down. "T'was a good rest indeed." Turning her head leftwards, she spotted her clock as she read the time. "Half past 3... t'is already afternoon?" She facehoofed. "Ugh, hopefully we haven't missed anything too important. Our sister has probably called for lunch about now." Getting out of bed, the alicorn looked over towards her dresser drawer as she spotted an old photo of her and Celestia standing next to a young Starswirl.

As she reminisced about her old mentor, Luna was caught off guard as the sound of knocking erupted from her bedroom door. "Your highness, are you awake? Your sister requests for your arrival in the dining hall."

'How did I know?' Luna sighed, "Yes, we are awake. We will be but not a moment or two."

"Understood, your majesty." The guard responded.

"Thank you." Getting out of bed, Luna opened her drawers as she pulled out her regalia, putting them on their respective areas. Looking towards the foot of her bed, she spotted her hoofguards as she levitated them over before putting them on.

After everything was finished and accounted for she opened her bedroom door, spotting the day guard. "Ah, Cobalt was it? T'is nice to see you, how is thy daughter doing if we may ask? We've heard she made the news a little while back about a recently discovered illness."

The stallion sighed deeply, making his way inside her sanctum. "She was checked-in to the hospital just a few days ago, every time I see her she can barely keep her eyes open until she falls fast asleep." Cobalt turns his head to face her with a solemn frown. "I...I wish they knew what to do to help but... nothing seems to be working so far."

"From what we have heard, she has a sort near comatose condition according to said descriptions." She stared into his eyes intently. "Is that to be believed, Sir Cobalt?"

He nodded, "Seemingly so, the doctors said they haven't seen a condition like hers in all of Equestria!" Cobalt turned his eyes away from her as the stallion coughed into his hoof. "I... I just wish there was something I could do to help her."

"Hmm..." Luna thought deeply before having an idea. "Perhaps we could be of service? We are an expert of the sleeping mind as it were, could we ask of you to give us this chance to assist you in this endeavor?"

Cobalt jerked his head back towards her. "Y-you would do that for me, y-your highness?"

She nodded. "We would do this for anypony suffering from such a thing," Luna held out her right foreleg, holding the stallion closer. "it's the least we can do for you." The alicorn turned her head back towards her clock to see a few minutes had passed before giving out an order. "Cobalt, we ask thou to head back to the dining room. We shall be there as soon as we can," She turns her head back towards him. "can thou inform our sister?"

The guard gives a salute before heading to the door. "Understood your majesty," He stops mid-canter before turning toward her with a gentle grin. "and thank you." Walking out the door, Cobalt makes his way over to the dining room while Luna walks over towards the nearby balcony as she prepares to cast her spell.

"I just hope Tia saves me some blueberry muffins for when I arrive."

(Oscar's View)

Sitting upon a treetop hill, Samantha and I were busy stargazing when she asked me a question. "Hey Oscar, do you ever wonder if there's life on other planets out there, somewhere far off in space?"

"You mean like Aliens?" Rubbing my thumb and index finger on my chin, I pondered. "I... I don't know," I turned my head towards her questioningly. "wouldn't we have encountered some already if that were the case? I just don't buy it."

She sighed, plopping herself down onto the grass as her ginger hair brushed onto my hand. "Yeah, I thought you might say that." As I was pulling my hand away, Sam was looking up at the sky before she spotted something. "Hey look, a Shooting Star!" Sam grabbed my leg, shaking it back and forth repeatedly. "Quick, make a wish!"

Grabbing her arm I looked towards her, setting it down on her chest. "Ugh, Sam. You know I don't believe in that sort of thing," I looked at her sternly, "no thank you."

"Hmph, buzzkill..." Closing her eyes, she appeared to be deep in thought before snorting. "Alright." She opened her eyes as she pulled herself back up stretching. "Hngh, phew. Glad that's done."

After a minute or so had passed, I turned my head towards her in curiosity. "So... what'd you wish for?"

She turned her head to me in confusion. "You... actually care about that?"

I barked out a laugh as she stared at me unsurely. "Come on Sam, we were childhood friends, after all. I think we both should care at least a little." Scooting closer to her, I held a smirk on my face. "Come on, I won't bite."

"Okay, fine... fine." Sam chuckled nervously, blowing a strand of her hair back. "So..." She sighed. "you remember my brother, don't you?"

"Tall, scruffy ginger hair, and built like a truck, right?" I tapped a finger on my chin. "What about him?"

She hesitated for a moment before answering. "Y-you remember that day at the gym I mentioned, right?"

"Vaguely, but yes." 'What is she implying?'

Sam was fidgeting nervously as she replied. "Well, I might have accidentally dropped a weight on his foot while we were busy working out, and I-"

"Y-you dropped a weight on his foot?!" I sputtered in response, "He- he's gonna be okay right?"

"O-of course he is!" Sam reacted defensively, "He's just getting treated for his injury and has to use crutches for the time being." She rubs her face with her palms in frustration. "I-I'm such an idiot..."

Seeing her in such a sorry state, I hugged her gently giving her a few words of encouragement. "Sam... Don't beat yourself up over that mess, if you didn't mean for it to happen it's fine. The doctors have been doing their best from what you've told me, so don't worry about it." Pulling a hand away from her face, I looked into her eyes. "I doubt he blames you for this, mistakes do happen on occasion."

"I- I dunno, Oscar." Sam shook my hand free, wiping away crust from her eye. "You haven't exactly seen him when he's in the zone, I- I just..."

Knowing where she would take this, I pinched my nose in frustration groaning. "Tell you what, if you want to take your mind off of this mess we'll make him a get well cake tomorrow, how 'bout that?"

"You would do that for me ...err, him? Really, really?"

"Really, really." Pulling out my phone, I checked the time reading it aloud. "11:45? Yeesh, I need to head home." Turning my head towards her, I hold out my hand to her as she pulls herself up. "You should head home too, It's pretty late out here as it is."

"Y-yeah, I'll see you tomorrow. Bye Oscar!"

"Bye." And with that, she walks back down the hill to her car as I look up towards the sky spotting the full moon shining brightly.

The Dream Realm

Traversing through The Dream Realm, Luna was searching endlessly for the young filly as the alicorn chatted amongst herself. "I really can't thank Twilight enough for what she accomplished last week. Her 'reforming' Starswirl and bringing him back as well was a much welcome surprise," Luna then thought back to his appearance as she was reminded of the photograph. "He really hasn't changed all that much, aside from his noted musculature. I think it would do himself good to- to..."

The Lunar Princess was utterly speechless at what she spotted as she stared in shock at the sight of it, it appeared to be the entrance to somepony's dreamscape but it was far from normal by Equestrian standards. A swirling void of chaotic matter surrounded by dark clouds, cycling through a list of possibilities Luna settled down on the most likely conclusion.

"It has been a while since we've ventured through his dreamscape, but why would one such as him be sleeping at a time like this?" Luna's curiosity got the better of her as upon treading closer one of the clouds had launched a bolt of lightning towards her, the alicorn quickly dodging out of the way.

"My word! What in-" Before she could finish speaking, the other clouds had followed suit circling her as the princess rolled from left to right. As Luna was dodging them one by one, a stray cloud passed behind her launching a bolt straight at her back as she cried out in pain.

Barely managing to hold herself upright, she soon fell into the swirling mass, preparing for impact.

Oscar's Dreamscape

Staring up at the moon, Oscar continued his gaze at the lunar object as it continued to glow brighter and brighter, the earth beneath him trembling violently as the man tripped onto his stomach growling in pain. "Agh! F-fuck... W-what is going o-o-on?!"

Panting heavily, Oscar slowly creaked his neck up towards the sky spotting the moon rumbling in a similar state before exploding into several thousands of pieces. Trying to process what he was witnessing, Oscar was caught off guard by a fast moving object as the human was hurled painfully down the hill, the object following suit. After several moments of catching each others' breaths, the man and the alicorn were blinking heavily as they opened their eyes screaming.

"AAAAH!!!" "AAAAH!!!"

Backing away from each other, the princess charged up her horn yelling out in alarm. "S-stand back you creature of chaos, we shant go easy on thou should thy strike!"

Flabbergasted at what was in front of him, Oscar leaned back in fright as the man curled into a ball. "W-what the fuck is going on..."

Intrigued by the creatures' ability to speak, Luna deactivates her spell as the alicorn treads closer. "What is this 'fuck' thou speakest of? T'is not a word we've heard spoken before."

Uncupping his hands from his head, Oscar turns his head towards her as he stutters out a response. "W-who a-are you?"

As Luna took a good look at his face, they appeared sincere in their statement as she introduced herself. "We are the Princess of the Night, Princess Luna. And what art thou, praytell? We have never seen such a creature like you before in all of Equestria."

"Equestria? What is- AAAAAAAH!" Feeling the ground give way, Oscar screams loudly as he's falling down a bottomless pit bouncing off the jagged rocks with the force of a cow stepping on his ribcage. Seeing what lies below him, Oscar lets out a scream as he prepares for his fiery fate - after waiting for a moment or so, the man looked up in curiosity to see that the creature from earlier had caught him.

After levitating him out of the pit, Oscar was incredibly grateful as he hugged her tight crying gratiously. "Thank you, y-you're a real life saver ya know that?"

Luna laughed at his kind words. "Thou are much too kind, dear creature. We just did what anypony would do in such a situation."

"Anypony?" Oscar belted out in confusion, "You're a... pony?"

"Y-yes? We art indeed of ponykind, what else would we be?" Luna was examining him closely for any kind of trickery, but saw none.

"I erm..." Oscar was speechless as he was still processing this strange interaction. "Some kind of winged horse?"

Blurting out a hearty laugh, the lunar princess was tearing up as the human looked at her unsurely. After her laughter had died down, Luna told him otherwise.

"We assure thee that we art a pony, an Alicorn to be precise." Staring into his eyes, Luna asked him a question. "Now what praytell art thou, strange one? We would think it be best for an explanation on this matter."

"Strange one?" Oscar spoke curtly, "Look, I'll have you know that I'm a perfectly normal human being, thank you very much." The last four words were spoken with a venomous undertone as the princess chuckled precariously.

"We apologize for any false wrongdoings we may have made towards you, please forgive us." Clearing her throat, she switched topics to another question. "Do you... know where you are right now?"

"Erm..." Oscar replied to her obvious statement. "Downtown Seattle, why?"

Coughing into her hoof, the alicorn made herself clearer. "We mean, do you remember what thou were doing before we came here?"

Thinking back to earlier, Oscar thought back to the events with Samantha and her conversation with him about aliens. "Funny you should mention that, I was having a conversation with Sam about aliens and..." Remembering the moon, Oscar freaked out as he remembered it exploding into thousands of fractured pieces. "Oh shit, the moon! The moon is gone!"

Turning towards the alicorn, Oscar belted out in anger towards her as she backed away carefully. "You, you blew up the moon! What- how... How could you do that!?" Stepping closer towards her, Oscar reeled back his arm preparing to hurt her. "You're going to pay for this!!!"

Seeing he had no idea what was going on, Luna held him back in her magic as he was making scratching motions towards her. "You really have no idea, do you?"

"No idea? NO IDEA?! YOU BLEW UP THE MOON!!!" Oscar was seething with rage as he belted out in anger, "WHAT COULD YOU POSSIBLY KNOW THAT I DON'T? Huh? HUH?"

"That you are dreaming..."

"D-dreaming? I'm drea-" Before he could even finish his statement, the entire world shook violently; Oscar being thrown off balance as a huge crater gave way beneath him before falling deeply down the cavernous pit. He fell so far that when he looked up he spotted a blinding bright light before everything went white.

Author's Note

To explain the segment between Oscar and Samantha, that is one of Oscar's memories reflected as a dream. His mind tends to reflect on past events due to his habitual lifestyle.

As for explaining his dreamscape, humans are more chaotic than any other creature in Equestria (aside from the obvious) as their dreams are not lucid like the dreams of ponies. So their dreamscape tends to be more reactive to any supposed threats to their safety.
