Silver doubled back in shock. “You’re…infertile?” He asked incredulously. He was certain that his eyes had grown three times their normal size. It was just so unbelievable. Somepony as beautiful and wonderful as Princess Twilight couldn’t have foals. His heart broke for her, and it was exacerbated severely when she began shedding tears. She sat down on her haunches, apparently unable to continue. Suddenly, having sex took a backseat to the true problem.

It was at this moment that Silver was able to truly place himself on an equal level with Twilight and understand her inner pony. She was just like him. When she was sad, she wept. When she was angry, she screamed. When she was happy, she smiled and laughed. She’d been put on such a pedestal by society and that, coupled with her infertility, had to have been such a burden.

He crept close to her and, to his happy surprise, she nuzzled deep into him. He put his forelegs around her back, cuddling her close and letting her use him as a literal shoulder to cry on. Feeling her tears drip onto his fur was almost unbearable, but he kept his own emotions in check. He knew that he needed to be strong for her in this moment. Sex and sensuality had been defeated by her own yearning for some kind of companionship. Due to her position, she hardly ever saw the five ponies she called friends anymore. In realizing this, Silver suddenly found another facet to her problem, which had grown massively in the last minute.

“Oh…Twilight,” he said, bending his head gingerly around her and letting her know it was okay to cry, “sh…”

“I don’t know why I’m crying so much,” she said as she pulled back, looking up with pained violet eyes, “I mean…nothing’s gonna change about it.”

“I wish I had an answer,” Silver said honestly, “but at least now…I know.”

“Know what?” Twilight asked.

“Why you utilize so many sexual partners. You have so much sex because you have this idea that, if you mate enough, something might happen.”

Twilight looked at the ground. This stallion had hit the nail right on the head. She was one of the smartest ponies in Equestria, yet she duped herself into believing this lie. Her emotions had gotten the better of her. Watching all of her friends transition into motherhood had driven her to seek out stallion after stallion. Desperate to continue her lineage, she mated constantly. It became an addiction, and she kept her infertility hidden.

But every kiss, every touch, every orgasm, and every session brought the same thing: emptiness. Oh, yes, the sex felt terrific and she wanted it badly. However, the knowledge that she’d never know a foal’s love crushed her. It would worm its way into her brain as she lay panting in the forelegs of whomever had mated with her. So…it continued. The endless cycle of sex, depression, and her duties as a princess. She wanted the sex, which in turn led to depression, which could only be suppressed by her duties, which then pushed her back to the bedroom.

“I…I’m such a bad pony,” she whispered.

“You are not a bad pony,” Silver reassured her, “you’re one of the most beautiful and wonderful ponies I’ve ever met.”

“But I’m infertile!” Twilight wailed, “the doctors have already told me that I’ll never have a foal! Do you know what it’s like to see everypony else achieving a goal that you’ve dreamed about since you were a foal yourself?!”

Silver placed a tender hoof on Twilight’s cheek, calming the quaking royal. He then looked down, shifted his hooves, and looked back up into her beautiful face. “Yes,” he said, “I do.”

“But how?” Twilight asked in disbelief. She then moved away from him towards a window on the far side of the room. “You’ve never spent a day in my shoes. How could you possibly empathize with me?”

“Ah, the old adage of ‘walking a mile in somepony’s shoes’,” Silver said, trotting over to stand beside her and look out at the moon, “just because I haven’t had your exact experience doesn’t mean I can’t feel what you are. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible.”

She turned her head into his chest. “But you can’t bear foals. I can…or at least…I could.”

He felt her tears splash against him again, and he pulled her in closer. What had begun as riotous sex had transformed into a poignant moment. He felt something for this mare, something much deeper than any session of pleasure could match. The synchronization of their hearts became apparent, as the thuds reverberated around his head and body. He nuzzled into her forehead, gently kissing it and ensuring her some form of protection against her sadness.

“I may not be able to actually bear foals,” he said, “but watching my friends and acquaintances transition into fatherhood has been incredibly tough.”

She sniffed and looked up at him. “It has?”

He nodded. “Indeed. I’ve always seen the stallions and mares under my command look at their offspring with pride, and I’ve wondered what that’s like. I am ashamed to admit it, but sometimes, my envy gets the better of me. As much as I try to suppress it, I…simply can’t. I’ve never had a mare look at me with love before, Twilight. I’ve never been in a committed relationship, or even sniffed marriage. Hell, I’ve never been on a date before.”

“So you just continue to watch from the sidelines,” Twilight said in understanding, “waiting…

“Wanting…” Silver said.

“That wonderful thing to happen to you,” they both said in unison.

Shocked by their sudden togetherness, they looked at each other. For some reason, they no longer held lust, but rather a deep affection. In a moment, the stars dancing over their heads seemed to ignite passions between them. They found themselves coming together in a kiss born of the purest love, full of appreciation and a want to be together. Now, they could truly make love and not feel that it was empty or meaningless.

“Look,” Silver said when they broke apart, “I…really don’t think I need the pass anymore.”

“You don’t,” Twilight said, “I’ve fallen in love with you. The pass is obsolete...for I have found the stallion I want.”

“Shall we...make it official?”

“I’d like nothing more,” Twilight said as they made their way into bed.
