Star-Kissed: The Cadence of Love
Epilogue
Previous ChapterMany joy-filled years later.
Celestia sighed contently as a tired Luna laid against her, breathing softly into the deep fur of her chest. Celestia raised a hoof and began gently stroking Luna’s mane causing the blue alicorn to mumble, “No, don’t wanna lower the moon, jus...five more minutesss…”
Celestia smiled down at her sister and simply continued stroking as they both soaked in the warm rays of the spring sun that shined down onto the grassy expanse of the Canterlot gardens. Up in the sky a pegasi day-guard and a bat pony night-guard flew lazily through the warm afternoon air together, hoof in hoof.
A group of foals nearby were playing and Celestia’s heart soared as she saw the eldest, an adorable, pinkish unicorn filly with a fiery mane, cast a teleportation spell, dodging out of the way before a small group of fillies and a colt could tackle her.
Smiling proudly Luster Dawn blew a raspberry at the fuzzy pile of attackers before turning and trotting happily towards Celestia and Luna’s resting spot.
“Did you see that? Did you?!” she poked a hoof into Luna’s side trying to make sure she was paying attention too, but the blue alicorn remained fast asleep.
Celestia smiled sweetly at the small unicorn. “Of course my sweet Dawn, I’m so proud of you mastering such a difficult spell so quickly!”
Luster nodded excitedly. “Luna said I’m sunkissed, so I'm extra good at everything!”
“‘Star-Kissed’, and yes, while that birthright does make you naturally talented, never let it be a cause to look down on anypony else.”
Luster Dawn let out a small laugh. “But I don’t need anypony else, I'm going to be the most powerful unicorn ever!”
So much like Twilight when she was a filly. Celestia thought to herself. Hopefully as Twilight’s student, Dawn will find the balance between personal drive and the wonderful gifts of friendship.
Celestia’s thoughts on the matter fled as the group of foals from before caught up to Luster. Squealing laughter echoed all around as the group continued their play. Celestia smiled warmly as she watched them, her hoof lifting again to absentmindedly stroke Luna’s starry mane.
Nearly the entire group of foals were Celestia’s in some way. The eldest was Luster Dawn, a “Sun-Kissed Daughter” that Luna had given birth to nearly 9 months after the first Sun Celebration ceremony. Luna had been so happy as she cantered around the castle grounds with her pregnant belly, shoving it into the faces of anypony that so much as glanced her way. Her joy increased ten-fold when the healthy filly was finally born. At one point Celestia had to step in to stop Luna from declaring her first born to be the “Inheritor and ruler of all the land we can see.” The nobles had nearly died of heart attacks that day.
The next oldest was Specter, the “Sun-Kissed Daughter” a certain Changeling had given birth to. Celestia had thought the name a bit too frightening at the time, but the pushy Changeling Queen had insisted “no disgustingly-cutesy pony names” and Celestia had relented.
Specter was a half-pony, half-changeling hybrid, the first successful one, according to Chrysalis. Many of the harsh edges and bug-like qualities of a pure changeling had been rounded off by the soft white fluff that covered most of Specter's frame. She looked like she was part moth and part pony and the adorable filly had given Celestia great joy while Chrysalis had complained that she “didn’t seem tough enough” but Celestia knew Chrysalis loved the silly filly just as much as she did. Despite the circumstances surrounding their first mating, Celestia had found herself a surprisingly clingy and loving partner in the changeling queen; even if she was a bit rough around the edges (and the bedroom) at times.
Unlike her mother, and despite being the “Sun-Kissed Daughter” of two of some of the most powerful rulers in Equus, Specter was a gentle and shy pony, and was currently picking flowers in the nearby garden for her parents rather than participate in the roughhousing. Celestia had of course encouraged the sweet filly, while Chrysalis had grumbled before storming off to go grab some food for the playing foals. Again, rough edges.
Thinking back, Celestia remembered when her next foals had been born. To her surprise, Chrysalis had given birth not long after Specter, this time to a pair of normal looking pony twins; an earth pony colt and a pegasus filly. When Celestia had asked, Chrysalis had gone into great depth about Changeling biology and how she could use Celestia’s potent seed stored within her to have countless children even if the initial magic had worn off. Both had agreed that three were fine… for now.
Said twins were currently trying to maneuver themselves into an ambush to cut off Luster Dawn’s escape. Flying only a dozen or so feet off the ground, Scarlet Dusk’s sunset-shaded fur and feathers were coated in sweat as she struggled to hold her larger twin brother in her front hooves.
“Can I drop you yet?!” Dusk practically wheezed out as she gasped for air between wing beats.
Astral Shine pushed a few stray hairs of his ruddy mane from his face. “Almost, just a few. More. Seconds. NOW!”
Just as he was about to crash into Luster she teleported once more, causing the earth pony to cry out in dismay as his hoofs reached nothing but air before he face-planted into the soft grass below.
Motherly concern gripping her heart, Celestia was about to gallop over to the poor colt but instead let herself relax as a small alicorn approached the downed earth pony and helped him back to his hooves.
The alicorn had certainly been one of the biggest surprises over the last few years. Cadance and Shining Armor had been trying for a foal of their own for a while, and despite doctors telling them nothing was wrong, they never seemed to be able to conceive. In fact, they had conceived, but alicorn foals apparently liked to take their sweet time. Cadance was pregnant for over two long years before finally giving birth to Flurry Heart, and Equestria welcomed its first natural-born alicorn in over several thousand years.
The political mayhem it caused was most amusing.
The mayhem only continued when Celestia herself gave birth later that same year; Turns out Changeling anatomy had a few other benefits. Honey Blossom turned out to be another adorable pegasus filly, and was just as fierce and playful as her older sister Dusk. However, and much to Celestia’s approval, the youngest filly of the family was very protective of her older sister Specter and had, despite her small stature, already knocked heads with a few older foals that had tried to bully the gentle filly.
Said pegasus was currently shouting encouragements to an exhausted Dusk as she tried to get airborne again.
Celestia found herself completely relaxed as all the wonderful memories from over the years flowed into her like warm sunshine. So of course something had to shatter her seldom-found peace.
*crash!*
A loud crash followed by the sounds of rattling kitchenware could be heard echoing out of the building adjacent to the gardens.
Shortly after an indignant cry rang out. “Sunbutt! Get your fat ass in her and help me make lunch already!” Chrysalis' voice was loud and stern enough that even Luna began to open her sleep-laden eyes.
Sighing in a mixture of irritation and amusement Celestia looked down at her sleepy sister and quietly said, “Well dear Luna, it seems our royal kitchen has a bug problem, I better go take care of it.”
Luna snorted in amusement as she slowly rolled off to the side to let Celestia up. Luna then settled back down again, gently tucking her wings protectively around her growing baby bump. She laughed as her sister stomped towards the kitchen and vulgarities were bounced between the Solar Princess and the Queen of the Changelings that would have given even the saltiest sailor pause. Celestia yelling, "Listen here, you little cum-stealing bed bug..." was the last thing that could be heard as the argument moved deeper indoors.
Luna rolled her eyes, aware that heated arguments between those two often led to more foals to look after. Placing her head back down on the soft grass Luna drifted slowly back to sleep, smiling happily as she started to dream of their future that would always be filled with laughter, life, and love.
